    Lil trick, turn distortion on, but only turn the tone knob and level pots, leave distortion at 0 - this will cut a bit of the metallic elements of the hats and cymbal to more of the og sound.

    RD-6 high hats always end up in my jams. They cut though a mix like a dream.

    Wow! Very slick production, nicely done! I too was a Korg Electribe ER-1 owner back in the mid/late 00s. Wish I still had it now. It was nasty where the RD-6 is smooth. But sometimes you need a bit of both! Couple of things you didn't mention in your video: (this one might be obvious for drum machine users) the CH and OH are on a choke group - that is, if a CH is triggered whilst the OH is still sounding then the OH gets cut short. This is to mimic how a hi-hat works on a real drum kit. Also, playing the CH and OH together on the same step produces a different sound - a harder, slightly longer CH. And FYI, the original TR-606 (oh, how I wish I still mine) didn't have a clap, so the CP sound on the RD-6 (taken from the Boss DR-110) is a very welcome addition.

      Thanks man, and good points, thanks for adding those. Hard to cover everything and keep the video to a reasonable run time.

    For the quality of this video, I was absolutely shocked to see you hadn't passed 1,000 subscribers yet. I've got one of these arriving today and it's also my first drum machine in quite a while. I think I was most drawn to the noisy open hats and the clap. I can just about guarantee I'll eventually get behringer's 808, but I'm not convinced that this one would get any less use as a result.

    Nice jam @ 4:00 . . . It sounds like great drum machine for ambient, synthy music that you mentioned. The jam you made would be great to listen to as you cruise down the highway at midnight.
    I just ordered this unit and see that the stock is starting to thin out across the USA. I figure the window might be closing to pick one up like some other Behringer clones that are now discontinued.
    I like that the bass drum is not overbearing, the snares are not too punchy, the cymbals are crisp, metallic and pleasantly synthetic. The DR 110 claps cut through the mix, but don’t sound cheesy, like many 80’s claps.

    Thank youj so much for this review of the RD-6! I have the Behringer TD-3AM, as well as a Donner B1. I am not a pro musician, but I have been living and breathing goa trance since the late 1990's. I am an old school hardware guy, just can't wrap my head around these VST's and software programs out there. I want to touch and feel what I'm using to make my music! The only thing I really want is a decent drum machine, easy to program, and will easily interface with what I have now. I'm thinking the RD-6 will work fine for me, thanks for your review!

    Would this be a good budget drum machine for post punk? I am really looking for a darker, flatter tone. If I am not mistaken, you can plug guitar pedals into this?

    • @boardstechre0964
      @boardstechre0964 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, you can connect guitar pedals to the RD-6
      in fact, to give you some good news, The Sisters of Mercy used the original machine (TR-606) to make their song "Alice" and it sounds great. Also, the group Noise Rock Big Black used the original for some EPs they made, so this replica of the original will be very useful for you to do Post-Punk.

    Did they recreate the old trick where an open hi hat on the same place as a closed make a third, kind of choked hat sound?!

    • @DollysplitBand
      @DollysplitBand 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can confirm that yes, this happens with the RD. It's actually insane the amount of variation in groove you can create in just the hihat track, by mixing together closed, open, closed and open together, closed after the open, accents on steps, and the occasional cymbal.
