  • Hey everyone! Welcome to my quicker tutorial and comparison video of the Creality Ender-3 Silent Mainboard!
    In this video i'll take you through the process of installing a Silent Mainboard into your Ender! With this mod the printer becomes nearly silent with the loudest item being the fan. It's an awesome upgrade especially if you have thin walls in your house!
    Near the end of the video i compare a stock Ender to my new upgraded one to really show you the noise difference. Hope this helps!
    Here is a link to the Official Creality Mainboard but you can also find them on Amazon and other electronics outlets

    At 2:40 there is an excellent example of why you should move the bed slowly ! Watch the display light up from the stepper motors becoming generators . ALWAYS move the bed slowly to avoid damaging the electronics !

    Just a FYI, the reason the X Y Z & E plugs appear to be backwards is because on the Ender 3 V2 and the Ender 3 Pro that 'motherboard' box is mounted upside down with the fan on the bottom, probably to prevent bits of plastic shrapnel from falling inside. Looks like they designed it for the V2 and Pro in mind but obviously still compatible with the original.

    Great video! I wish I read the part about unscrewing to loosen the contacts, before I wrestled like crazy with the pulling the wires out with the contacts still tight! Oh well, first time for everything... Also found it much easier to put the wires back in before I screwed the allen key screws back in. And I found out at least one of the bigger allen wrenches has a magnetic end.

  • @rfig94

    Fyi the green terminals are actually connectors you don't have to remove the cables you can just swap it over. Not a bad idea to remove them though to check tightness. Great tutorial

    Hi, just wanted to let you know and the people that watch this, it is a lot easier to unplug and replug in all the wires if you do it while it is out of the housing, it is also much safer. Also, anyone doing work with motherboards etc should try to get themselves an earth wrist strap as your body put off static electricity and circuit boards don't like static. One last thing, please move the bed slowly so that it doesn't have the motors making power when you move it.

    Commenting in case this helps others who found this video and were confused by some of the conflicting comments.
    If you have a multimeter, use the continuity test setting (represented by a triangle with a line through it, and a little sound signal). Test the pins on your stepper motor, by holding leads to the pins individually. The multimeter will sound on the two pins that belong to one coil.
    For my origial pin set up: 1-2-3-4
    1&2 and 3&4 were a pair, so Coil A = 1&2 and Coil B = 3&4. To reverse the direction you need to swap coil A with coil B
    I ended up flipping the pins to a 4-3-2-1 configuration (stepper motor side) and solved the issue. This was on an Ender 5 for a silent board upgrade.
    TLDR:
    Test your stepper motor to figure which pins go to which coil and swap Coil A pins with Coil B

    You should have a bootloader pre-loaded on that board. I installed the 1.1.5 (4.2.7) board in my Ender 3 and I definitely had one - flashed to latest TH3D right out of the box.

      It's a 32 bit board, so you won't be able to use the Arduino software. Maybe that was the problem? I had to switch to Visual Studio Code, and add PlatformIO and Marlin build addons to create the new image, but overall it was far easier than flashing the old board. Also... I had the same reaction to how quiet it was as you did: "Holy Sh..."

    • @FranklyBuilt
      @FranklyBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DriftwoodDaveM well I think that’s it really. The plug and play versatility instead of having to populate your own build ya know? Running the arduino system on the other boards it’s just so much easier especially with TH3D

    • @DriftwoodDaveM

      @@FranklyBuilt I only did the flash to get PID tuning from the LCD, but otherwise there's no great urgency to change the stock firmware on that board. Anyway I'm certain you'll sort it out, and probably teach us all a thing or two along the way. Thanks for another great video Frank, your channel is my new "go to" and look forward to your updates. Even though I've been printing for about 2 years now I can honestly say you've shown me several ways I was doing things wrong (or not as well as they could be).

    • @FranklyBuilt
      @FranklyBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dude thank you so much for that. Yeah I’m 100% okay with the stock firmware for now. The board did its purpose. I’m a firm believer in “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” so I only upgrade what’s needed.

    I am facing the following issues after proper connection:
    1. The fan is not running (it just twists for a fraction of a second and then remains inoperative)
    2. The LCD simply turns ON (it is not showing any information, it is completely blank)
    Kindly let me know if it is a voltage issue (12v/24v). I am not sure about my Ender 3 whether it is 12v or 24v but yes 24v has been written on the fan of the motherboard.
    Furthermore, this control board can't be replaced with the 8 bit v1.1.4 board 😭
