  • In this one, I make a new stand for my Walker Turner 900-series drill press that I recently converted into a milling machine. I make a new stand from square steel tubing, run new wiring and do some milling. Plastic, aluminum and hot-rolled steel. I hope you enjoy!

    Cool, I subscribed to your channel. I’m thinking of quitting TH-cam,my channel is 15 years old with over 900 videos and I have less than 300 subscribers. It’s not working.

      I took a look at your channel and subscribed. You have a nice set of videos. One thing you might try. Add some context to help new viewers understand where you are riding and why. You have really cool videos. Well shot . Interesting. But as a new viewer, it’d help me feel engaged if you let me know why you are making each video. Then I could get into it too. Views and subscribers are mostly luck and timing. Don’t give up. You’ll get there.

      Oh, and consider adding captions. They really help TH-cam figure out what your video is abut and promote it.

      @@RobertAdairWorkshop thanks, yeah I don’t do any editing as well and that’s something I should also work on. Funny many times I’ve gone riding to some far away places and ride up to a group of riders and introduce myself and they say oh we watch all your videos.

    I think the welding project I have done more than every other is building a table for another tool.

    Oh and OVER HANG (distance from spindle bearing) invites chatter/leverage caused vibration.. but hey you seem to hv solver that by buying a mill..

    Please consider getting a multi tip fly or rose cutter for surfaceing ojects like you just did, end mills are not the best to use for this application

    • @RobertAdairWorkshop
      @RobertAdairWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Eugene. I have a small set of fly cutters with a 1/2" shank but they are cheap and I think the HSS blanks aren't really HSS. I need to make some new blanks for them and try them out. Think this drill press mill has enough oomph to use one on steel?

    Thanks very much for yet another video,I enjoyed the last posted where you converted the drill press into milling machine,my question is how did you sort out the irregularity of the Shaft which was causing the tool to chatter?

    • @RobertAdairWorkshop
      @RobertAdairWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I didn't really. I played around with the mill, cutting various things and trying things out and figured out how to use it. That was the big one. In the original video, I hadn't used this mill before, so I wasn't familiar with how to cut with it. I've since figured that out. So, short of it, wasn't the bearings, just had to learn how to use it.

      it’s call a linear screw jack, or linear screw actuator. This one is made by Duff Norton

      Linear screw actuator. Linear screw jack. Or worm gear actuator. Duff Norton is a major supplier and can be found as surplus on eBay.

  • @mikemullenix6956

    Is your drill press an mt2 mount ? And does it have tapered roller bearings on the spindle? The reason I asked is because most drill presses will not take a milling lateral thrust. And the mt2 is not designed for the lateral thrust. That's why most milling machines use an R8 chuck mount. Question, does the mt2 every drop out while milling ?

    • @RobertAdairWorkshop
      @RobertAdairWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's worse than MT2. It's a JT33. I used the original chuck removal wheel to secure the ER20 chuck so that it's not relying on the taper to hold it in place. The one time I did use it without the threaded collet, it did fall out on me. That's while I was making the collet at 24:45.
