- Blower motor replacement: 1-1/2 to 3 hours ($160 / $275 / 450)
I had to lube the fan motor on my 850. The motor was squeaking and if left in that condition long it will cause the motor to fail. You can also use these instructions to replace the fan. Procedures are similar with the S70.

Just used this video to excellent effect. Old blower out, new blower in with no blood, no surprises. Thanks Robert!
Nice, you are welcome
I just bought an S70 -99 and for every fault I search about I always end up on your channel in the end. You seem to cover every single screw on these cars, and you always explain very good. Thank you. Now I will enjoy this video.
Thanks for watching.

You can always tell a real Volvo enthusiast by what is in the glove box: relays and spare fuses. But, we love it.
Lol
My V70 classic 2.4 fan just failed 800km from home . I start watching this video and kicked the dashboard and it is working again 🤣 thanks 🤩
Yikes!
I did it ! With the help from Roberts video I took the blower out in like 15 minutes, took one out at the junkyard in ten minutes and installed it in another 15 minutes.
Thank You Robert!!!
Now onto a misfiring injector !
+HypnosisDownloadz.com Good deal. The misfire is a "cylinder misfire" not an injector misfire. Try this: th-cam.com/video/Sg7iFytxfzQ/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic video and thanks for doing this! What would we do without dedicated folks like you.
+Rick Redfield Buy a Honda.
Thank you so very much for posting this! The blower died in our 1995 new-to-us Volvo Wagon and it was just impossible to drive in our Canadian winter and it would be two weeks to get it into a mechanic. Thanks to this detailed video I was able to change the blower, even though it was outside and -3 (26 Fahrenheit)!
Total time 1 hour
I have always enjoyed working on vehicles, even if I am a woman! Thanks again.
You are welcome. Glad you found the video and you have HEAT now. :)
thank you! my blower motor burned out and i wondered if it was something i could replace myself. this video was exactly what i needed. i finally have ac again!
I managed to oil the cage side bearing without removing the cage from the motor by using a long straw on the spray can and being careful not to spray into the motor and brushes. Not as good as your method Robert but the cage is 30 year old plastic so it looked a bit brittle. I live in Sweden and the 850 turbos are very popular with young people and increasing in value now. Thanks again Robert you just saved me a lot of cash.
Awesome
Robert- Best DYI video I've seen, great tips, well thought out and very informative!
Great vid Robert, thanks! I am pretty sure the Blower fan just went out in my 1997 Volvo 850 GLT. I just took the old one out waiting on the new one. A couple weeks ago the fuel pump went out. My Volvo mechanic in Des Moines Iowa wanted $230.00 for the pump. I got an OE replacement Direct fit (complete assembly in the shroud and all) from carparts.com for $54.00 delivered! With I think a three year warranty! I stuck the same brand in an old 1998 S 70 I had and have had good luck with them. The blower motor was like $150.00 at FCP. I got another replacement EO Direct fit entire blower with a one year unlimited mile warranty from carparts once again for $54.00 delivered, waiting on it now. Can't wait to see what goes out next! : )
Robert, thanks very much for the video. I just replaced the blower motor on my 98 S70. Your video really helped. it's as good as new.
Awesome
Thank you for all that you do!!! Your videos while not specific to my Volvo have helped me tremendously over these past 3-4 years.
Good deal. Thanks for watching.
Robert, thank you, this video was the bomb! I went a year not knowing what was blowing the fuses, I thought I ruined the fuse panel when putting a new fuse in with the car running, haha. I trouble shooted the blower motor as you said by just unplugging it and turning the car on. (no blown fuse) I just installed a new blower motor and I have heat! Thank you again, God bless you (note: I had trouble punching the shaft through the housing and WD40 worked well)
+Andrew Stallman you are welcome.
Thanks for giving me the confidence to do this.
Took 20 mins to fit aftermarket blower and I'm a complete novice.
Very good. Thanks for watching.
Great video as always. We just took out dads blower motor as it stopped working and cleaned the terminals and it's working fine now. Luckily no parts needed 👍
That is awesome!
Another great video!
My 850's blower motor was in such a bad condition that it was time to replace it. I found almost new motor that came from MB W124, which has same blower motor but different squirrel cage... This video made the process as simple as 1-2-3. But oh boy, that original squirrel cage was TIGHT! Eventually I managed to swap the motor without breaking anything (Except the MB squirrel cage). Thanks!
You are welcome
Thank you Robert.
You are absolutely irreplaceable.
Thanks for watching.
@@RobertDIY what year volvo is that robert
HI Robert, I took the heater fan resistor out and bought a fuse for it which cost 2 bucks I soldered that on and I also took out the motor and lubed it up as it was seized a bit. Now the fan works great and also works on all 4 speeds. All for 2 bucks. Thanks
Very nice.
Hey Robert, Thank you for the video. The task was really easy to do. Actually I needed to change my blower motor resistor. But thanks to you, I noticed what to look at. Lubing the motor will help it hopefully for the next half year :) Both made me have a great AC again!
I also used your other guides! All great. Some of my friends call you Volvo-God right now
LOL, Thanks for watching. I do have a resistor video as well.
Robert DIY Have you ever had the cold start problem? It's under 32° in Georgia now and my Volvo 850 has like no power starting (uphill, Motor dies) and the ignition takes longer. Is that the common FuelPumpRelay Problem I read about. You've got a video on this, too :)
Sebastian Wolf
When was the last time the car was tuned up? How old are the spark plug wires? You have any intake tube leaks? Is the car turbo?
Volvo 850, S70, V70 Fuel Pump Relay Location and Test - Auto Repair Series
How to get another 100,000 miles out of your car - Auto Information Series
Robert DIY Tune Up was June 13. It's no turbo. Spark plug wires might still be the first ones. Intake tube is a good hint! It's not well adjusted.
The wire have a date on them, week/year. Maybe replacing them will help. Do check the relay as well.
Dude, you cary an extra fuel pump relay..............RIGHT ON!!!!! You rock!!
LOL not any more. A jump wire is better
Thanks again for these videos. My 94 turbo started flashing 2 lights (ECC) and no fan. I bought a replacement fan off ebay, but the impeller was a smidge too large to fit.....I could force it in the housing but the impeller contacted the housing and it made a whining/hum. For whatever reason I tried the OE fan again and low and behold....it works. Went ahead and cleaned it up and reinstalled it. AC in Florida summer is a welcome addition!
Theo Aftonomos The OEM one will fail again. Get a spare if you can.
I will look for another one. It was intermittent before it died completely.. do you have an aftermarket one you recommend? The one I purchased off eBay for 65 was whiiiiining bad right out of the box.
Theo Aftonomos The x70 fans don't fit. I usually check the salvage yard for newer ones. I have not tried any after market units.
Thank you so much, got an old Volvo from family a year ago and the fan has almost stopped working... Only works on the highest fan speed.
This car has over 350, 000 miles on it and I'll never know how many actual miles because the odometer stopped working.
I'll give you an update on how it came out. :)
th-cam.com/video/yxSn3vQl0hc/w-d-xo.html
You're amazing. Thanks for the help and info. Best wishes.. it looks like I have a bad resistor as well as a squeaky fan... Let's hope I can fix it before the Massachusetts weather comes in for the winter.
One thing I've come across about this car that I don't know if you could help me with is the fact that it freezes shut... Not just the key hole/ lock in the door not just the windows and the doors freeze shut but also the door latches even freeze open once I get the door open! Is lithium grease ok for the door latch and key hole? And is there any way to prevent my windows and doors from freezing shut? What I think is happening there is ice is finding its way between the rubber gaskets of the doors, and between the glass and the rubber of the windows.... what can I use to reduce the amount of freeze other than replacing the door rubber gasket for a better seal..?
I really appreciate all of your help sir! You're a godsend! Honestly, grateful for the help
Thank you very much Robert!!!! You have been a great help!!! I appreciate you taking the time to help somebody you don't even know....thanks again...
William V Anytime. Thanks for watching.
Yes I'm pretty sure because it only doesn't when I have the A/C fan on and it's coming from inside the dash. Glad to hear your fix is working out. Thanks!
Another great educational video Robert... how much money you have saved the DIY (whatever their issues for not taking it to the mechanic that needs to eat too). The counter above says 60,363 views as of 5/26/2013. Today is 9/19/2020. Just running the numbers Robert, you have saved your viewers (we have to average here) say each one of them paid $300 to have their CBM replaced (that is just adding $25 onto your $275 number above... we know it could move either way. Now the math... 60,363 X 300 = $18, 108,900. Wow! Congratulations and thanks! I am really in a tight place with COVID-19 and have been out of work! :) Living in NY to boot! Part 2... Removed CBM... WD-40 Lithium Grease - will spin but not as free as it should be... I spun and spun and spun some more... still stiff. It blew a fuse last winter after it was doing the Owl Screeching... more trouble-shooting... maybe the MCC is gone too... I hope not. Will report back with part 2 later. Thanks again. BTW... 220+K ...a great piece of engineering work.
Motor is probably dying.
well again you were a great help to me and my son. working on the 850 this week end, cleaning out blower housing replacing the resistor and lubrication. again thanks Robert , from John and Luke
You are welcome.
Thank You Robert. You saved me cut fingers, time, and broken plastic.
Amen my friend.
Robert,
thanks for the info on blower motor lubrication. no more squeaking/ roland
+rol spol cool.
Thanks for another great video Robert. We have a 97 with 70000 so we will be doing maintenance for a long time. Your Dash pad video was a great help also! We got a nice one from the JY and my wife installed it over the weekend.
CAS021064 Good deal. Thanks for watching. And please tell your wife... "That A Girl!"
Thanks a lot for your videos, you have saved the day obce again! Your my go-to-guy when something goes wrong on my 850. My blower motor has made that squeal for quite some time now, but only for a few seconds. But this past week it has made a new noise everyday. Now it has stopped functioning completely, and the Rec and A/C lights flash when I try to turn the heat on. It is negative cold here in WV. So thanks again for posting this and many other videos.
Christopher Morgan You are welcome. When you hear noise, do something about it before the part actually breaks. LOL
Thank you so much for your work! I've never seen such a HUGE amount of valuable information in videos from one person...
Wow, thank you!
Hi Robert,
Thank you for this great video! The chirping of the blower motor is finally gone!
jephilip Nice, thanks for watching.
Great instructions for blower motor... had no problems after viewing your video. Thanks Robert
Finally got to this and it was a success! thanks for the tutorial. Not the first of your videos that ive referenced!
thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for the tutorial on the blower fan replacement. The video is super helpful along with the layout of necessary tools and supplies for the job.
Thanks for watching.
Great video! If I'm doing all the work to remove the fan motor, I will just replace it.
ok
Hello Robert
Just wanted to say thanks for the videos you have made. Watched this video and decided to try and lubricate the motor on my S70 to see if it would help and it did.
Thanks again
You're welcome.
Thanks once again for a wonderful tutorial, Robert. You are a superstar amongst Volvo enthusiasts worldwide. :-) Hopefully one day you will get a 1999-07 V70 and do a load of videos on that model... you guessed it, it is what I own these days, and I love them to bits; well all Volvo cars really.
The 1999 and 2000 are P80 Volvo's. Lots of videos on those. The 2001 - 2007 are P2 Volvo's, not to many videos on those.
Robert thank you for your clear explane every time
Respect to you i apriciate your work it helpt me many times
You are very welcome
Robert - If those bearing are sintered bronze (oilite) it would be better to run some light oil (like 3 in1) into them as they are designed to absorb the oil into the bearing material itself and release it as needed. The absorbtion of the oil would be aided if the bearing were warmed. I imagine grease would not absorb into the bearing.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Used this to replace my blower motor just in time for this summer heat
nice
Good deal, thanks for watching.
Thanks Robert! Hey, they make tiny tripods for cameras such as yours so you could use both hands and show us more! They go for under $20.00 !
I have 2 of them. Just another thing to do, to much stuff to carry.
Thank you Kindly, I sure appreciate all the things you have taught me through your channel, it has been most helpful. Much appreciated, Evan.
You are welcome.
Hey Robert - Thanks very much for this! i am going to attempt the repair today. I appreciate your work.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hey again - Robert you are a scholar and a gentlemen for doing this! You saved me much time and money.
Here are some pointers I can pass along. The coupler Robert used is a 4" PVC coupler. I found one at home depot for 1.97 - brilliant! This was easy for me using a Philips head screw driver as I did not have a real punch. I suspect a punch would be a better solution.
I read a lot of opinions on weather or not to use WD-40 or white lithium grease. I may have found the best of both worlds.... WD-40 brand has white lithium grease "protectant". I used that and it seemed to work well. I connected the motor and ran the motor both ways by switching the plug - it only runs for a bit and then fault out. I read this in another thread and thought it may help the grease penetrate the bearings - YMMV
The only thing that gave me some trouble were the T25s on the right side of the fan housing. You will need a something small to get at these. I used a small ratchet with the an adapter to finally get at it.
Again many, many thanks to Robert for this video. Great job. What a great way to start out the new year with NO squeal!
Cheers (sorry for the long comment)...
Awesome video as usual....doing that tomorrow!
Cool, hope all goes well.
Fantastic work again, thanks Robert !
thanks for watching.
Thank you Robert! This has been very helpful.
You're very welcome!
@@RobertDIY Btw. I noticed that my car (Volvo 850 1994) has no knee bolster. Is that normal? Would you suggest I buy one and put one in?
Hi Victor, I can NOT reply to your message, check your account settings. At any rate, WD-40 is kind of think and will burn up quickly. Use something thicker. Better yet, lately I have been finding newish blower motors in the salvage yard, very nice and quiet.
Brilliant, I have a squeaky fan... now I know how to fix it thank you :-)
Are you sure it's the blower motor and not a belt under the hood? Sometimes people hear a squeek when they first start the car but it has nothing to do with the blower motor. Mine was squeeking at certain fan speeds. It is very quiet now and should stay that way for about 2 years.
Thank you. Due to this video mine is working again
TOP NOTCH JOB THANKS
you are welcome.
Hey, this is a very helpful video. I recently bought Volvo V50 1.6 diesel and blower motor making exctly the same noise.. I am still trying to find some tutorial how to find the blower motor, I think I need to take out whole dashboard because noise is coming from the middle of dashboard..It is easier on other Volvo models where blower motor is located under glove box.
+Mantas Sukarevicius I have no idea. I have never been in a V50.
Good. Glad it helped, hope you "LIKED" the video. :)
So, just did the heater core yesterday and the fan is noisy, noticed how easy it is to do. I'll be doing that soon.
Awesome!
You are welcome.
great video
regards from spain.
happy new year
Thanks for watching.
Very helpful! Thx from Sweden!
Good. Thank you for watching.
I need to replace the module that regulates the speed of the motor. I haven't been able to find anything on this. My car is a 1997 Volvo 850 Wagon.
Thank You.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thanks man, you saved my Volvo ^_^
Mantas Daujotas That's the goal. ;)
Robert DIY Hey Robert, I was hoping that maybe you could help me out with something. My blower motor will only work if I turn the blower knob to 4, the first three steps do nothing. However the 4th speed works fine, just like the maximum function would. Any ideas on how I could make the first three levels work as well?
Thanks in advance!
Fan resistor. - th-cam.com/video/yxSn3vQl0hc/w-d-xo.html
Hi Robert; I'd just like to get your input on my situation before I order a replacement blower fan motor and cage assembly for my '97 850.
For the past 6-9 months the fan has been intermittently squealing when I ran heat or AC. I've been delaying the lube procedure detailed in this video since changing fan speeds usually quieted it down and I have some physical limitations which complicate my being able to easily complete the task (bad knees). This past weekend while on a long roadtrip, the changing fan speeds trick didn't work and, after about a half hour of intermittent squeaking, the fan shut off. After it quit, when I turned the fan controls on, I could hear a slight hum which makes me think the motor is getting power, but is seized (I turned it off immediately and no longer 'test' it in this manner). From reading through your comments here, I see there is also a relay and a fuse/resistor involved as well as the motor and cage. My questions to you are:
Do you think I just need to replace the motor and cage assembly (it's only $55 for the complete assembly on ebay, so I don't think I'll buy a new motor and try to put the old cage on it). Do you think it necessary to check the resistor and/or relay first in case the motor is salvageable with the lube procedure? If so, do you have a video posted where that process is explained? Edit: I found your resistor video. I can find relay info on the volvo forums if you don't have something on your youtube channel. My vehicle is the ECC version. Thank you in advance for your time... wt
Replace the blower motor.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hi, what to do if blower blowing weakly on Volvo 940? Should I try to clean the tubes somewhere? Because this Volvo has no cabin filter right?
Thank you very much for help
Richard
If the fan is strong, you likely have a problem with the vacuum system. I believe the car has vacuum bellows behind the dash that go bad. You may want to post for help on TurboBricks forum.
hi , thank you for all tuto. i changed the battery for my xc90 2007 v8 and after this i have problem with ac and i have hot air on the driver side and cool air on the passenger side . any suggestion . thank you
Sad to say, I do not. Probably was doing that before you replace the battery.
no , it was working very well , but i dont use this car for about 5 month and forget to disconnect battery , after installing the new battery i have this trouble . i see on some forum speaking about reprogramming the cem or reset it , but i am not sure how to do
Dealer level programming.
Just did that today...blower wouldnt move at all in the beginning, but now its smooth and powerful again...i saw that there is nothing much left of the coals, should i replace them if the engine quits or better get a new one? Thanks for your great work!
I don't know what coals are?
i meant the brushes on the elektric engine, ok their made from graphite, but in german their called coalbrushes.
+KhorneBerserker87 oh, I'd just replace the blower.
thanks helped me to fix my fan
good deal.
helped me with my 2000 V70 classic
Cool
Your tutorial worked great! I have a question. What’s the purpose of the knee bolster? I hate that thing! It almost made me cuss.
Help prevent severe damage to your legs in case of an accident.
Hi Robert. My blower motor has started squealing, so I'll need to do this repair soon. I was wondering if some WD-40 would be enough, or do you really need to use the lithium grease? Thanks a lot for all your videos, they have been life savers more than once for me and I'm sure also for others. Cheers
my fan used to sound like a garbage disposal, only about 1/10 as loud, but that sort of sound and i kept running it. now it's totally silent but no air comes out, so i am going to try to fix it or replace it. maybe i should see if i can get one at LKQ Pick a Part. should i see if it runs after lubricating it? or do you think it should be replaced? i was told this was a hard job but after watching your video, i have confidence i can take it apart and put it back, thanks! thanks for taking the time to make and post this video.
Replace
@@RobertDIY thanks Robert!
hi robert - i drive a '97 volvo 850 glt wagon. your videos have been a great help. but right now, i'm looking for help with my blender doors. the motors seem to be sticking - if they even work at all. i can feel some heat, but it's not getting directed properly. might you have a vid for this?
Peter Hyrka Not really. That was one of the videos that was stolen with my laptop. How old is the heater core?
Robert DIY
i have no idea. there is heat tho. i can feel it - sometimes ... could i access the blend dooors thru the glove box, as in the above?

Glad you liked it!
Thank you very much Robert

Robert, I've got a 94 Volvo 850 with a fan that doesn't work. If you hook up directly to the batter it works fine, but otherwise doesn't work. I've tried many different relay packs, changed the temp sensor, checked the thermostat and pulled a different fan at my local junkyard and it still didn't work. Any suggestions?
how do you know the engine temp is hot enough to turn the fan on?
Check ground. Then ECU.
@@RobertDIY it's overheated a couple of times and the radiator cracked and I've let it sit for a long time and it never kicked on. I'm going to try the things you suggested.
@@RobertDIY Hey, I've been looking for info on how to check the ground and ecu but can't find any good info. How do you check those things?
Ground can be checked with an ohm meter. I'd swap the ECU.
the (later) V70 I model fan does not have that T20 screw. (how) can one still take that apart and lubricate it?? it doesn't sqeak, it "growls" (the other day i thought there was some heavy equipment standing next to me)
replace it.
Robert - great video as always. I was so close but am now stuck. It's the first steps of reassembly before testing. I put the motor back into the white (yellowish now) plastic housing. Then I went to put that back into the black housing. I understand the black and clear plastic housing should not touch. When I do that, the screw in the top of the black housing does not reach the fan motor. And, the two electrical connectors are too low for them to reattach to the plug. I adjusted the fan inside the clear housing a little bit each way. I went too far one way because when I tried to reattach I broke through the top of the black housing with the fan shaft! Any tips for what I may be doing wrong? Did the silver shaft through the center of the fan somehow shift? I am out of ideas for how to line everything back up. Thank you.
+Jeffrey Hammer I am going to respond to my own comment. I took it all back apart and hammered the shaft through a little more. Once I did that, it all reassembled beautifully. These were great instructions, Robert. Saved me a ton of time and money.
+Jeffrey Hammer Glad you figured it out. Lately, I have been checking cars in the salvage yard for new(er) motors. I scored one for about $18.
hi Robert, I managed to get the fan off the motor but it looks like the seal on 1 end of the shaft is not sitting correctly causing the fins inside to stick the magnets and will not spin freely, any tips?
thanks
Paul Buxton Tap it a couple of times from the other end to get it aligned. Best resolution is to find a newish fan in a junk yard.
I was having issues with the fan I replaced the motor but with the manual adjustment it doesn't work on 4 the first 3 speeds are good and I checked the fuse #5 any guesses
+Pat Dempsey Not sure why. Try to Google and see what you come up with.
So i did all of everything. Went so smoothly. But I go to put the glovebox back in after screwing in the airbag and it doesn’t fit anymore. like something stopping the right side of the glovebox from going all the way in. this ends up keeping the glovebox light on permanently which drains my cars battery…
Doesn't sound like you pushed the glove box in all the way.
Hi, Robert my Volvo 940 Air-Cond blower motor not work, when I turn on my blower speed Swich. My blower motor is 5 speed completely not work, please advice
Have you pulled and tested the motor?
Great video! I have question. My blower was squeaking the same about 3 weeks but now it just stoped working at all... :( So is there any possibility to fix o just search for now? Thnx.
You can remove it and apply 12 volts directly to it to see if it will run. If not you can replace it with new one or used one. I read that the cost is down below $100.
Same here. Mine was squeaky since i got it about 4 months ago and i though it's a feature. Then it started making this horrible noise and now it's all gone. I'm gonna gut it out on Saturday.
this just started happening in my 850 wagon, but i dont thibk i can fond lithium grease anywhere here. what other common oils/greases do you reccommend?
+Mr. Urmo's channel none. Replace the motor.
Wish I could find info on doing this to a 1997 960
Hmmm
Hi Robert.I changed the blower but when I conected the new one with the switch that appears in the video 06:35, the blower seems to star blowing full speed even thow I remove the ignition key, not responding to any command on the AC module...Can you help?...Thanks in advance
Sure, bring it by.
The part where you show the latch is out of focus. Is there any chance you could send a picture of it in focus? I am having a hard time getting the latch out.

Hi Robert, I come here again after two years with my persistent problem. I would kindly like to ask you, I have an 850 with electronic climate control. The blower motor itself runs nice and smooth, bearings lubricated. However, from time to time and mostly randomly, the fan control module (which is almost certainly PWM type) decides it is time to shut the fan off. Recycling the ignition brings it back on. Do you please know where is this PWM control module located? Could it be just a bad capacitor or something? Thank you very much in advance.
What's PWM?
Are you referring to fan resistor?
@@RobertDIY Yeah something like that, the "speed controller". On these electronic climate controls its supposedly not a resistor array, but electronic controller (with a switching transistor) to allow for seamless speed control.
hey whats up kevin from boston always with questions my buddy has a 96 volvo 850 glt he change his blower motor fan and when it rains or go to the car wash he gets water in the front passenger side does he has a drainage problem
Sounds like it. Probably clogged drain(s) in the sunroof or engine cowl.
Hey Robert, thanks for the video. I have a very puzzling situation. I just replaced my blower motor because I had no air at all, and when i started the car, I could hear the motor start for about half a second, then stop. Any ideas? Thanks!
+sean farrell did you test the blower motor?
+Robert DIY I did. I have a new development. If I continue to turn the ignition off and back on rapidly, the blower motor will almost "kick start" and start blowing on high!!! And the ecc unit controls do not work at all. Is there a chance I need to replace the ECC headunit? (As a heads up I also did check all the fuses).
Sounds like you need to replace the blower motor thermal resistor
Is that just the resistor to the left of the blower motor? And if that was bad, would it cause the ECC controls to stop working? Thanks.
Yes, possibly.
Is this basically the same process for an S70? (1998)
Brandon Patterson Close, you get the lower panel off by pulling the glove box first, then 2 screws from the lower edge of the frame to get the lower panel out.
Robert, My 98 S70 heater motor goes high to low speeds. Is this a sign that the blower is going?
I do not understand the question. The fan is suppose to change speeds as it needs to change speeds to maintain cabin temperature, especially if you have AUTO selected.
Robert, I am in the middle of trying to lubricate the fan blower motor on my 84 850. I've watched this video about 10 times. I have the blower motor out of the car but I can't get the housing off of the fan. Do I have to remove the plug for the fan connector wiring in order to remove the housing? I do have the wiring disconnected from the fan, just not that plug that is attached to the housing.
The plug on my fan is a little different looking from the one in the video. There are no holes on the top of the plug on my fan. I can't figure out how to remove the plug. This is the original fan and has the date 1/29/06/93. On the video it appears your fan number ends in 95. Maybe that is why they look different.
Never mind. Sorry I posted too soon. I finally got the plug off using flat head screw driver and didn't damage anything and the housing came off easily I'm finding a lot of little leaves and dirt in the fan which was probably part of the cause of the squeaking.
Cool.
Hi Robert . I own a 2004 s40 t5. Has no ac nor heat. 0 air comes out. Everywhere I look says blower motor.resistor or fuses.
I checked all my fuses so sadly I think it’s the blower motor . Which happens to be in the middle of the dash and for what I read it seems like a very hard job. What I want to ask is if the resistor is located somewhere else and I just haven’t found it. I have searched a lot of forums but can’t seem to find it . Some say it’s inside the motor. Is this correct?
I have no idea.
Hey Robert. My blower motor was squeezing and went out the other day. Do I follow these instructions to put in a new one minus the lubrication part? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Ps I followed your tutorial on how to replace the heat resistor switch and it worked beautifully.
Michael T Yes, this will work.
Thanks so much for yet another very informative video. I have a 1996 T5 with air con, when I turn it on there is a very loud rumbling sound that vibrates through the dashboard, sounds like a Jumbo jet !! Is it likely to be the fan motor bearings? And do you think its terminal? Thanks for any advice you can give.
I would expect to replace it but take it out to see if something got into the cage.
@@RobertDIY Thanks Robert. I recently had the windscreen replaced & they could have accidentally knocked some rubbish into the fan intake. It also occured to me that it might have a pollen filter that has started to break up.
Hi Robert. I have this issue with a 2005 V70R. Is the set-up the same on that model?
No.
Fantastic video
Thanks for the visit
Hi Robert, can a A/C clutch cause extremely weak blowing or just the motor
Probably a clogged cabin air filter.
Art Cabral exactly my problem!
Hi Robert. Thank you again for your videos. You are a true gem. Can you recommend a good after market motor & resistor for my Base model 99 S70 with an MCC climate control system. The Volvo dealership prices are too expensive for me. Thanks in advance for your help.
No, I usually get them from the junk yard.
Robert DIY Okay, thank you, Robert
