As a quality engineer I can tell you that companies are happy to lay off quality people and zero out the quality department budgets without care if it makes a quick buck for shareholders and the CEO. There's a broad failure to realize that a quality department actually makes the company more money than it costs almost without exception.

Stopping Progressive Quality programs will cost you more in the long run. Ask GM, Ford and Dodge. People stopped buying domestically and going to imports because of cars and trucks falling apart. Then they got better. Nissan stepped back on their quality and sales dropped

Drove, 25 years, 8 Toyotas. Bought a Acura MDX, V-6, no turbo. Super upgrade. 4-Cyl, twin turbo=will not last, needs frequent oil changes, as they run hotter. Toyota has run its course.

Turbo engines with good maintenance will last for decades. I’ve owned many turbocharged vehicles and I typically put 30+k on vehicles a year I always buy used well maintained vehicles and have never had issues. I’ve owned fords Toyotas Hyundais Mitsubishi’s Chevys and a jeep with no major issues. Maintenance is key with a turbocharged engine 10k oil changes will most definitely reduce life. I always change the oil at 5k with high quality synthetic oil. Maintenance like always is the key to longevity.

    • @j81851
      @j81851 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

The engine is an arrogant affront to 110 years of engine design. Separate main bearing caps have been tried and true for over 100 yrs. Toyota in their infinite wisdom decided to throw out combined experience in engine building experience and use a large honeycomb type plate to "reinforce" the main bearings and webs. Result different coefficient of expansion, rigid honeycomb main assembly across the whole bottom end and now instead of each main journal having a separate main bearing cap the bottom end is a large plate holding all the mains at one time.
Engines flex thousands of an inch when they are hot and running. The individual main caps allow each journal to deal with the expansion and contraction at each journal independently from the other.
This "plank" looking bottom end on the Toyota V6 turbo is rigid laterally and sided to side and cannot respond to the few thousands of flex engines have when they are hot and under pressure (particularly aluminum) so the front main has exhibited expectable failure and turned because the main journal cannot respond to the normal heating and expansion as a individual cap type bearing system can.
Bad design and demonstrates the perceived self affirming attitude Toyota has of themselves. We are better than anyone and everyone else just ask us....

I purchased the 2023 Toyota Tundra Hybrid TRD Pro. I received a recall notice from Toyota about the tire's excess wear on the outside edge, this was due to an improper alignment from the manufacturer that has destroyed the outside edge of the tires. I took it to Winter Park Toyota, and the service advisory stated that all four tires needed to be replaced since they were already rotated, but they would have to send the information to Toyota warranty for the final approval.
I was shocked when they advised me that Toyota would only replace three of the four tires.
even after the service advisor stated that all four tires needed to be replaced.
I contacted the Toyota advocate and explained the situation they advised me that someone would contact me within 24 hours, after waiting a week I called back and explained the situation again that Winter Park Toyota advised me that all four tires needed to be replaced, I then took it to Toyota of Seminole County and the service advisory also stated that all four tires needed to be replaced but they had to wait for approval from Toyota.
The advocate said they would need to submit another claim to a different department and here I'm still waiting with no response from Toyota to resolve this issue.

I was saving to buy a Tundra as my long-term vehicle; however, after observing the Tundra's issues over the last two years, I realized that I cannot trust it for long trip with my family or in emergencies. Therefore, I decided to buy another brand for the first time, like a Ford F-150. Ford’s isn't perfect either, but at least the issues are known and repairs are cheaper, unlike the new Tundra, where an engine block costs $32k. I purchased a Toyota Tacoma Trd pro white in October of last year and what I’m experiencing is the clear guards that I guess are on there to protect it from rocks you could see this rust spots forming going to take it in this Tuesday. Let’s see what happens. I have purchased over seven Toyota vehicle brand new in the last 25 years, and I have never had any problems. Shocking to see rust forming on my truck and I live in Arizona where it’s real dry.

I think you're both right, Toyota probably has a termination clause that allows them to terminate their deal in the case of fraud convictions, but at the same time they probably don't want to terminate the deal as they probably don't want to have to replace all distribution of an entire geographical region of the US on short notice just to make a quick buck during a time when they're already struggling to produce enough product. Their dealers would be screaming at them nonstop for a good year while they figure stuff out and then profits would be down for several years while they figure out all the fine details, which the old distributor would surely not volunteer to help them to figure out.

The machining story is a bunch of bs. This is for engines built in both the U.S. and Japan. So there is machining debris in multiple locations? This is clearly a design issue and I expect to see this recall to spread to 2024 models as well. Tundra and LX engines are experiencing numerous catastrophic failures with their bearings.

Gotta agree with Zach on the distributor contract issue. Material breach of the contract usually allows for dissolution of the contract, although every state’s law may vary. And I agree with Zach that the auto maker can absolutely take steps to rein in the distributor for actions that devalue the brand in the public’s eye such as adding 5-10% of add ons that the customer did not request. I have been searching for a Toyota Highlander for months. The recalls on them are ridiculous per Consumer Reports and the reliability has dropped. But the prices remain way too high.

I didn’t like the new body style and didn’t trust a v6 twin turbo engine in a full size truck long before the issues showed up. Anyone with experience in turbo driven engines knows 10,000 mile oil changes is a big no no. If anything, change the oil sooner. Why Toyota would even suggest such a move on a twin turbo is ludicrous and shows the lack of QC in their products today.

Toyota has had issues in the past. They have been pretty “nimble” at making sure the problems get fixed. They do have some bad dealers, and twice in my 30 years of buying Toyota, I’ve done my compliance run around catching them, so they don’t have to explain to corporate, they then jump through my hoops. Always buy the last year of a model run, as they get the kinks out. I’m so in love with my 2002 Tundra Limited, only maintenance and tires. My very good dealer in Missouri tries to buy it every time they service it. Knew I was going to keep it, very hard to find the Limited with cloth, there was 1 on the lot at the Julyathon in 2002. Paid $28,000 with bedliner, running boards and Michelins added. Felt like a lot at the time, but I love it’s been reliable and paid in full for 2 decades!

According to a Japanese automotive critic, Toyota submitted test results under more stringent conditions than those required by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). For instance, in a rear-end crash test to check for fuel leaks, Toyota provided results from a test involving a car weighing 1,800 kilograms, rather than the 1,100 kilograms mandated by the government. However, since these conditions did not align with MLIT's standards, the ministry reportedly deemed this action to be improper.

I’ve said it several times, Toyotas quality is perceived not necessarily fact. People still regurgitate that same old trope. When you check reliability ratings they’re not always better and even worse in some cases when comparing models. CR, Edmunds, JD etc
Then they’ll do the same with brands like Hyundai/Kia. That they’re the same company from the 80s and early 90s when they’re not. Even when certain models beat both Toyota and Honda in reliability/quality tests.
I hear it now, but their engine recall… yeah, what about Hondas engine recall for the 1.5T? Big problems when it first came to market.

They don't respect the customer and they always tried to force us to buy an overpriced car with so many crap games. In one case in Dallas, they kept us in the dealership from 5 pm to 11 pm, pushing us to lease a Base Camry for 580$ with 5000$ down. When we changed our mind and left, they kept the 5000$ for 5 months until we got it back by claiming through the bank. I really don't want to go to a Toyota dealership anymore. Make no mistake, this is a design issue, not a machining debris issue. If it was a debris issue, it wouldn't be affecting both American & Japan built engines, nor would it be an issue for 2.5 years. There are both 2024 Tundra & Lexus that are failing in exactly the same way.
