114,000 on my 2006 xB. Replaced tires, battery, wiper blades and license plate light bulbs. Sadly I live in Illinois, the rockers are so badly rusted that I'd be afraid to put it on a lift. Otherwise absolutely the most trouble free vehicle I've ever owned.

@@begunn I’ve been in Maryland and Virginia over the years. In the first 12 years, it was easy to find good and cheap car wash deals like a free wash for every 5. I was very religious in washing the bottom of the car weekly and changing oil. Used AMSOIL until my dealer disappeared about 5 years ago. 😭 Now using Valvoline high mileage synthetic. I have used Slick50 in my vehicles since the 1980s with no issues. (You have to drive 20 miles immediately after pouring it in to not have issues.) It takes the engine a little longer to get to a warmer temperature but I was actually getting the published 32 mpg driving real world speeds. Recently, it’s fallen to about 30 mpg with wear and tear. 😢

Our family had chevy's/olsmobiles back to the 50s and the cars were held on average 12 years before getting a new car. Turn over of every 3 years started when leases became popular. Before that you paid off your 4 yr car loan and kept it until the wheels fell off. People in the 60s and 70s could not afford to buy a new car every 3 years in central NY state.

Yes and even for a specific model and specific year, some people will get good results, regardless of whether, on average, that vehicle is more likely to have issues. But when going to buy a vehicle, it doesn't hurt to know the likelihood that you will run into problems. Often there are specific vehicle components, such as an automatic transmission, in certain vehicles that are more likely to break. So a list like this that rates an entire brand over a 5 year range isn't very helpful.....

None of my mechanic friends recommend anything from Korea. My point... most of my friends have a good laugh at these CR reports on vehicles.

I have a 2016 BMW 550i xdrive that I purchased used in 2019. I have now over 100K miles on the car. In my 5+ years of ownership I've had very few repairs, a turbo actuator failed, and a head light has burned out. So in general the car has been trouble free (not maintenance free). Its been the same experience with our other recent BMWs they rarely have any issues (328i, X1, X3, M330). Our dealer charges $69 for oil changes, the major expense in maintenance has been new tires. The one's that were very expensive were our X5s (E70) generation and E90s. Basically anything made in the 2002-2012 range is very expensive. The newer cars addressed a lot of the issues that plagued the older cars.

It more depends on the year and model of BMW, as they can highly likely to fail when old the more complicated they are. Turbo four direct injected Vs a normally aspirated inline six. The new stuff get great gas milage but don't expect it to last.

Mazdas are a VERY different car since they and Ford split. They have improved dramatically in reliability overall since then. Their Japanese models were always reliable, but the ones with Ford engines and transmissions were iffy. Especially once they switched to the Skyactiv engineering, and the 2012 + cars have all been beautiful, plus they are a kick to drive!

The latest data tells us statins for high LDL are worthless for high LDL but LDL do not cause heart disease and statins actually decrease life span as well as import hormones and immunity, so diet to rebalance your system is very important.

@ouethojlkjn Diesel in the UK might be less appealing for cars but will still dominate truck transport. What the UK needs is ultra low sulphur diesel + better NOx requirements--CA's is more stringent. W urea injection (DAF) diesel in UK could be as clean as in California. Do UK trucks require particulate traps? I recall diesel exhaust in the UK smelling different from exhaust. We have 50 state-compliant vehicles which have the tightest regs.
