It's nice that you want to help singles. However, many singles are hurting deeply. So many like me have waited for years trusting God. The advice is very general. Singles need empathy and more recognition and help inside the church especially. Something is wrong when multiples of women in the church are singles for years and years. Mostly no men are in church. Singles are not prayed for in church or supported. Ultimately, only God can do it for a person. There is so much focus on preserving and healing marriages. Rightly so, but would anyone join singles and really, truly see their heartfelt issues and help them in their struggles? There is deep loneliness for years and weariness waiting for years. Also singles shouldn't be shamed and always telling singles that they shouldn't make marriage an idol. That is so unfair when many singles have waited for years and years and many others waited 2-5 years to get married with much less waiting.

8 years ago I made a list of characteristics that I wanted in a husband it was characteristics that my great grandfather had and I prayed over it for 8 months and I believed God would answer those prayers and he did. My husband and I have been together for 8 years out of those 8 years we've been married for 3 years and he is everything that I prayed for.

About to be 47. Been practicing abstinence since 2015... While I think this couple is sweet. This wasn't helpful for me. I didn't hear the joy in this message. I heard a lot of don't but not a lot of how's. For example How to wait when you have been waiting and faithfully. How to stay encouraged when your discouraged in your wait. Imma stop there.
I remember the day I gave up and gave it to God!! I was treated with so much disrespectful from the age of 4, the day I gave God control of my love life. I sit down outside on a sunny day in 2009 I was crying and I started to pray, "God, I am tired. Please help me, help me to be with a man that will love me and not hurt me. God I give you control of my life. Lord, send me a man that you want me to be with?! In your name Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen!" I gave it all to God to send me a husband and a man to treat me the way I should be treated. I met my husband in 2012, we started off as friends because, I was dating his old roommate. Then, the day that my old boy friend kicked me out of my car with my one year old at the police station, told me to fine my way home. I lived 4 hours from my parents house. I called my dad what happened and he dropped everything to come. It was going to be a long wait. So I texted my friend ( now husband) and he was going to drop everything to take me home. I told him that it was fine and my dad was on the way. He waited with me until my dad showed up. From that day, we started dating. He would drive that 4 hours to see me every weekend. Long story short we got married in 2015 and have been married 8 years now. So that day I gave God control, He open my eyes to a great man and husband. ❤

I had a long list. And I prayed for 10 years. God sent me that person . I knew right away when I met him. He was also a very devoted christian. We had a heavenly relationship. But the 3 years into my marriage my husband died of sickness. I am doing very well right now thanks to the grace of god. But I sometimes wonder what it was God was trying to do..
I loved this! I think shifting the focus from “this is the husband/wife I want” to “this is the partner/spouse I want to be” is an amazing shift of perspective. To add to one of the topics you covered- being pressed can look like only focusing on or over emphasizing being in a relationship so much so that you’re willing to date just anybody/someone well under your standards and/or it’s all you talk about. In my waiting season, I don’t want to always talk or focus on my “singleness.”
If I believe that I need a man to spiritually and emotionally fulfil me then I may be making an idol of this idea. I am 47 and thankfully enjoy my own company. I loved this conversation Pastors. As a [soon to be] 37 year old single woman, I definitely agree with the "don't be pressed" sentiment. A few years ago, shortly after coming out of a toxic relationship, I met a guy while hanging out with a friend. He seemed nice, but I knew I neither wanted a relationship, nor was I ready for it. I made that known to him, because I'm strongly against wasting people's time in that manner, but did offer friendship, as that is all I had the capacity for. The guy flipped out on me...and that turned me off from even thinking of him as a potential in the future. I think when one doesn't respect your boundaries, it demonstrates desperation, and that is never good. Thank you so much for this. I think i will come back when i will have somebody in perspective. For now it's make me feel more single!!! I am in a covenant with God to stay pure before marriage but the struggle is real. I've felt ashamed to ask God for a spouse because i feel like im betraying God because He literally satisfies all my needs 😢 But I've been able to discern by the Grace of God that that feeling of shame is from the enemy. So im pushing myself to pray more intentional for a husband.
I do have a list but it took me several years to develop. The things that are on it are not superficial or frivolous. I have given each item a lot of thought (why do I want this quality? Do I have this quality myself?). I find that it helps me stay intentional when dating and I am much better about discerning people who aren't right for me. For example one item is "honors God and honors me". I had gone out with a guy that was sexually aggressive in his communications with me. Clearly not a guy who was honoring God or me. So he had to go. So I'm a fan of the list as long as it's prepared with intention and serious thought.
Yes I don’t go on dates too! I go to meet up but not dates. I feel uncomfortable when they call it late I can’t loosen up. My bday is in January and God has it in my heart that I should go out and date! This video is what I needed to hear God is good.

Please don’t discourage black women from practicing discernment when it comes to men. Historically we haven’t and look where that’s gotten us today. I have a list but what’s on my list are the same things I bring to the table. My list consists of negotiables, nonnegotiables, what I’m open to, and preferences. However, I believe age and experience plays a big part in your desires. I’ve been married before so I know what I bring to the table and the things I’ve had to work on to be a better spouse the next time. I think it is great you met each other and are happy and that you credit GOD with bringing you to together, but I have changed my mind on the fact GOD is that concerned about those small areas of our lives. The BIBLE teaches GOD is no respecter of persons. I agree with Tabitha. The word “date” seems to come with expectation versus “hanging out” or “Meeting-up” gives buddy vibes with no romantic expectations. I like to think of it as a buddy outing as I am showing up for the experience and the opportunity to get to know you better. Changing the term simply takes the pressure off.
All of it is great, but there's a lot of single people over 40 who wish to have children and there's been single for a decade. Some people by waiting on God will either struggling carrying children or will just not going to have one. We are all waiting for a soulmate!

I think shifting the focus from “this is the husband/wife I want” to “this is the partner/spouse I want to be” is an amazing shift of perspective.
To add to one of the topics you covered- being pressed can look like only focusing on or over emphasizing being in a relationship so much so that you’re willing to date just anybody/someone well under your standards and/or it’s all you talk about.
In my waiting season, I don’t want to always talk or focus on my “singleness.”

I loved this conversation Pastors. As a [soon to be] 37 year old single woman, I definitely agree with the "don't be pressed" sentiment. A few years ago, shortly after coming out of a toxic relationship, I met a guy while hanging out with a friend. He seemed nice, but I knew I neither wanted a relationship, nor was I ready for it. I made that known to him, because I'm strongly against wasting people's time in that manner, but did offer friendship, as that is all I had the capacity for. The guy flipped out on me...and that turned me off from even thinking of him as a potential in the future. I think when one doesn't respect your boundaries, it demonstrates desperation, and that is never good.

For the singles who have listed their grievances, have you considered the delay could be your murmuring and complaining? Have you forgotten that God needs to be using you to align you and your spouse? A man going to church faithfully does NOT automatically make him a husband. We must get rid of the idolatry of a husband or just marriage in general being an idol so that God can get the glory from your union...Our goal should be staying in His bossom and loving him until He presents you before your husband. If God who can do the impossible is making you wait, there may still be work He's doing to prepare you both ❤ He hears our prayers and he is orchestrating a lasting love! Congratulations in advance 🎉

I think i will come back when i will have somebody in perspective. For now it's make me feel more single!!! I am in a covenant with God to stay pure before marriage but the struggle is real. I have cut so many things in my live in order not to fall into temptation. I don't like this version of me now. Few months before i was pretty confortable with this singleness. I made a list this year, but like a month later, flipped it around and started praying those things on myself. Why would I ask God for someone with qualities I dont realistically have myself? I'd love to be a good number of those things, before my king finally arrives.

I told God I gave my heart to you. So tired with dating now a days, it so ghetto. I ask God to prepare me for my husband. Teach me how you want to love and handle your son God. Because I do have certain qualities I ask God for! I just know and trust God! I know God got me. He knew me before I was born. So my abba father knows what I need. So surrender to God. Continue to let him mold you. Heal, grow, and desire what God wants for you.
I've felt ashamed to ask God for a spouse because i feel like im betraying God because He literally satisfies all my needs 😢
But I've been able to discern by the Grace of God that that feeling of shame is from the enemy.
So im pushing myself to pray more intentional for a husband.
I do have a list but it took me several years to develop. The things that are on it are not superficial or frivolous. I have given each item a lot of thought (why do I want this quality? Do I have this quality myself?). I find that it helps me stay intentional when dating and I am much better about discerning people who aren't right for me. For example one item is "honors God and honors me". I had gone out with a guy that was sexually aggressive in his communications with me. Clearly not a guy who was honoring God or me. So he had to go. So I'm a fan of the list as long as it's prepared with intention and serious thought.
Yes I don’t go on dates too! I go to meet up but not dates. I feel uncomfortable when they call it late I can’t loosen up. My bday is in January and God has it in my heart that I should go out and date! This video is what I needed to hear God is good.

I have to say…a list is nothing but standards, boundaries, and expectations. Black women should have MORE of it and actually enforce it. Please don’t discourage black women from practicing discernment when it comes to men. Historically we haven’t and look where that’s gotten us today. If men don’t meet those standards, that’s their problem that they need to confront.

I have a list but what’s on my list are the same things I bring to the table. My list consists of negotiables, nonnegotiables, what I’m open to, and preferences. However, I believe age and experience plays a big part in your desires. I’ve been married before so I know what I bring to the table and the things I’ve had to work on to be a better spouse the next time. It’s my desire to be married again and I pray for all those who want the same🙏🏽.

I understand the heart behind this video. I think it is great you met each other and are happy and that you credit GOD with bringing you to together, but I have changed my mind on the fact GOD is that concerned about those small areas of our lives. There are thousands of GOD loving, God fearing , GOD following believers out there that are still alone so how do you explain the fact you two were brought together and so many others have not. The BIBLE teaches GOD is no respecter of persons. I believe in my heart GOD is sovereign and in control of everything ,but I no longer believe GOD is that concerned about the small issues in our lives. Thank you for trying to help, but I tune out any pastor when they begin telling others GOD brought them together with their spouse, I believe it is random.

I agree with Tabitha. The word “date” seems to come with expectation versus “hanging out” or “Meeting-up” gives buddy vibes with no romantic expectations. I like to think of it as a buddy outing as I am showing up for the experience and the opportunity to get to know you better. Changing the term simply takes the pressure off.

All of it is great, but there's a lot of single people over 40 who wish to have children and there's been single for a decade. Some people by waiting on God will either struggling carrying children or will just not going to have one. We are all waiting for a soulmate!
