    I am the eldest son of Major Maximo P Young (endearingly called by us, his children, as Daddy Max), who was featured in the MARCH OF THE VALIANT. At that time, when he was assigned to be part of the Filipino contingent in the KOREAN WAR, (the PHILIPPINE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE TO KOREA, with the 10th BCT), he was a FIRST SERGEANT. He was decorated and conferred the highest military merit medal by the South Korean government with the TAEGEUK AWARD on July 27, 2016 for his heroic feat in the BATTLE OF MIUDONG (MURI), which was dubbed as the first battle won by Filipino soldiers in a foreign soil. Aside from the BATTLE OF MIUDONG, my Daddy Max also fought in the BATTLE OF YULDONG, where it was proudly announced that a battalion of about 1,000 soldiers vanquished a militia of 40,000 Chinese communists forces. Unfortunately, he passed away on January 29, 2022 at age 99. We are all proud of him as hero not only in the KOREAN War but also in the SECOND WORLD WAR where the US government then awarded him a SILVER STAR MEDAL for his heroic feats!

      I’m sorry for the discrimination that you faced in South Korean and it hurts me to hear about it. I don’t really like how we Filipinos ride on our ancestors’ coattails. we weren’t the ones who achieved that. However, I do agree that we should never be looked down/discriminated upon just because our country has gone backwards after the wars it faced.
      Thankfully, we are facing a slow change recently and we can only hope it is for a flourishing future. We need our independence back, and hopefully our current leadership will pave way for that future.

    • @longhairfen
      @longhairfen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geostigma3120 "Utang na loob" is ingrained in Filipino culture and imo gratefulness at the least must be demanded from a people who owe their liberties from the people who gave the ultimate sacrifice for those freedoms. The PEFTOK volunteers represented the Philippine nation and the Filipino people in that war, not just themselves. Those over 7000 soldiers have descendants who still remember the stories from that war. Unjust discrimination against Filipinos by the Koreans due to ignorance of history is, I think, very despicable.

In spite of this Filipinos sent soldiers to help liberate their prople. Koreans should stop discriminating or giving bad comments to Filipinos especially those in Korea, it hurts so much. We don't want to develop hatred in our hearts. Some bully us in our country.

    Back then, the Philippines was the riches country in Asia. We were far advance than the rest of the country here in Asia and so if help is needed we come to rescue without even questioning or ask anything in return. We are the type of people who loves to help even if we are also in suffering. One of the examples is the battle of Yultong in South Korea. Sad that some Koreans descriminate Filipinos not knowing the huge contribution of our Filipino soldiers who risked their lives to fight for a land they don't even know and free it from envaders. Even thou Spain and Japanese envaded us, we never hold grudges because we understand that it was all in the past. I am a proud Filipino here, thank you for this reaction.

    If Philippines do not trust US so much we could have surpass every country and ruled this world.Everywhere you go Filipinos was there ,professionals and non professionals they are everywhere and if ever Philippines would be so greedy we can pull out all the OFW's and I guess every country will go down 'cause half of the Filipinos are the reason why their economy is rising. It's just that Filipinos then and now are soft hearted and always look up to the people who help us have our freedom and think of our love ones more than anything in this world.I hope everyone realize that Philippines is the real sleeping giant.

    I am proud of the participation in the Korean war of a distant relative on my father side he was Col. Nestor Venturina from a brave clan in the Philippine province of Bulacan. My father Alejandro Venturina was a distant cousin of Col. Venturina a veteran brave warrior who according to reliable source belonged to the 800 Filipino soldiers who caused unsurmountable sufferings upon the large number of chinese communist soldiers who reportedly numbered to forty thousand (40).

    The Philippine Army was under US 8th Army and The only Southeast Asian country sent around 7,400 soldiers to help defend South Korea during the 1950-53 conflict, and the first group of troops arrived in Busan on September 19, 1950. According to government data, it was the third in the world to send support after the United States and Britain

    Philippines is the first country to gave military aid to south korea. Filipino soldiers are fighting while the Americans are still debating in their congress about the budgeting. My great-grandfather was a veteran of both WW2 and korean war. When he was still alive, he used to tell stories about his experiences about the war, but he refuses to tell story about the battle of yultong because both of his bestfriend died while defending a foreign soil. He was against to the idea of going to korea because he said that Philippines is already free from colonizers, but both of his friends are very heroic in nature so he decided to join them. Unfortunately both of his friend die because the puerto rican soldiers are retreating and gave up their line, so the chinese are also firing from different directions in their planks. He also said that he was just lucky to survive because most of the chinese soldiers are not well trained for that kind of combat.

    Stitch Choi, could you do a video and explain how you came about vlogging about the Filipino culture, the Philippines in general. If you’ve spent some time in the Philippines, your fluency in Tagalog, etc. I just run into these 2 vids ad would love to learn more about your background and your seemingly love for our country, the Phils. Btw, I noticed a couple of Curry vids (Warriors), are you based in the Bay Area? Thank you!

    The Filipino soldiers were not just chosen. They wanted to go to Korea voluntarily to fight it. Because the Filipino soldiers thought of how to conquer it because previously Filipinos were also conquered by other countries so they thought of it in Korea and they only found out that almost all of South Korea was conquered by the communist and they will never allow it

    South Korea must include in their history books the Battle of Yultong.
