This is music for the soul, man. Take any 10 bands from the last 10 years, put them together, and you have about a quarter of the rock power these guys generated. They don't make music like this anymore, to our sorrow. Long Live Southern Rock!!!
All I've got to say is Danny Joe Brown had a voice of gold in the context of that band. Saw them live in concert during the original DJB years and they were incredible.
I'm only a Brit, and we don't know much about rock bands. Right? I've always loved these guys, bought their first albums and always thought they were the best rock band to come from FL. RIP - DJB. This band still does it for me.... Cheers..........
i just turned 17 and my dad died when i was 13... i still remember when i was a little bitty baby boy born in the in the sticks of mississippi, hearin my diddy sing this song... man i miss him but this song reminds me of him... so this is for u dad! (i love you) - your son Edge
Danny Joe Brown knew how to lead a band and when to step back and let the other guys take the lead. They had that chemistry which blended perfectly the southern boogie rock that so many bands from Florida were able to capture. Every Florida band in this genre had something special to bring. 4or 5 times I got to see the Outlaws and Molly Hatchet and twice with another Florida rock band Stranger. Those were the days my friends I thought they’d never end. We’d sing and dance forever and a day. We’d live the life we’d choose we’d fight and never lose. For we were young and sure to have our way!
I love the way Danny walks off the stage, the boys gather together and turn the dogs lose on em! It was a chance encounter on a dock in the Arlington section of Jacksonville when I was kid that made me want to be a musician. Danny, me, a fishing pole and a bottle by his side. I just happened to walk on the same dock he was fishing on. I will never share the conversation, but I will say that we sat there a while and neither of us caught a thing...except me, I caught inspiration. God Bless DJB!
Compared to today's music this is like getting out of your Prius and climbing into your 1971 Dodge Charger with a 440 six pack. Different day, different time. But boy yah gotta love the rumble! I grew up listening to this stuff. Going to motocross races with this music crankin' through my Jensen TRIAX II's. It was the sound track to my life. Boy at the end of the 70's when new wave started to be the thing, I though the world had gone mealy! I never saw it coming.
Saw Molly Hatchet in Fayetteville NC back in 1983 when I was with the 82nd Airborne. Without a doubt that was THE BEST show I have ever seen!!! They didn't need stage lights or pyrotechnics, their performance stood on its own merritts. These guys knew how to rock then and they haven't forgotten a thing since! Thank you guys for a lot of memories as I was growing up and a lot of memories since.
my brother inlaw introduced me to Molly Hatchet with this song in 1982 when i was 12yo. i remember i was blown away. it still blows me away when i hear it today.
Totally agree with you! All Southern Rockers are just regular blue collar guys who are passionate about their ass kicking music. In the late 80's, when I saw The Outlaws in a small Maryland bar, they were happy to come out and have a drink with everyone once the show was done. The band members easily could have been paying customers to see the show.
One of the best jams written by Molly and damn you can see Danny was having a hell of a time during this performance..a true rocker that stood there and took it!!!!!!
This song is so much more relevant with the way the world is now than when it was recorded. Hatchet, Skynyrd, Allman Brothers 38 Special........ It's a Southern thing. I'm so proud to be a Southern boy!!
One of the Most underrated bands.Great lyrics, sick guitar, and my favorite is the the huge bass background throught the last 6 minutes or so. Kick ass song
Of all the great Hatchet songs this one to me was the king. Gator Country and Dreams were great, but this was it. In Roanoke Va in 1984 the audience stood for this song the whole way through it.
Amen brother, Amen. Thank you for your service as well. I used to have a friend at work who served in the 82nd from '85-'89 and hit Panama. He told me a lot of stories about his time in the Airborne and I arrived at the conclusion that being Airborne and being a Marine were a whole lot alike... just a different ride into combat. So, Semper Fi brother. Honor is not in the uniform, but in the man who fills it.
God Bless Duane Roland, Bruce Crump and Danny Joe Brown. I am a huge fan of the band. In school my Art teacher did the picture of Danny from his album. It is priceless. I prefer Southern rock over others. RIP guys!
Hey copperheadroad64, I was at that concert too brother. I was a Marine at Camp Lejeune and my buddies and I drove over to Fayetteville for the show. Thought we might find trouble being a few Marines among a lot of Army Airborne, but instead we found a friendly welcome and a fantastic show. That wasn't long before I deployed to Beirut. Of all the concerts I've ever been to, that was one of the best... good times!
"Fall Of The Peacemakers" A king without a sword A land without a king A truth without a voice One song left to sing One song to sing A wise man told me there's something you should know The way you judge a man is to look into his soul And you'll soon see everything. A voice from the past cried "Give peace a chance" He paid our price now he's free at last Imagine, we called him a dreamer! How many times must good men die? How many tears will the children cry? 'Til they suffer no more sadness Stop the madness, Oh, stop the madness. If ashes are ashes and dust is dust At our journey's end then return we must To the sands of the shore White doves in flight Peace to all But tell me why the peacemakers fall Must we bury anymore? The hush of the crowd as the horse rode by A black lace veil hid the tears from her eyes And we all wept in silence How many times must good men die? How many times will the children cry? 'Til they suffer no more sadness Oh, stop the madness Oh, stop all the madness...
One of the Greatest ever, at the End of July they´re coming back to Germany -- and i´ll be there ... saw them 20 years ago, 11 years ago -- and still counting the Days... RIP Danny Joe-- but Southern Rock still lives on .... Hell Yeah :)
I remember listening to this song back in high school, early 80s, thinking, WOW, these guys have been around forever..............now almost 30 years later I'm still listening to this great song..........where have the years gone. Great tune.
Saw yhis lineup in Stockton at the music conservatory at university of the Pacific. Front row seats...lost my hearing temporarily after the show. It was AWESOME
Best band hands diwn i saw you at pineknob michigan i was blown away thank you so much for playing your heart out its spiritual and healing i love you guys
when i first heard this tune i knew it would be a classic .ididnt think anybody would agree but here we are 30 odd years later , and people finally get it .peace to all why do the peace makers fall.when will the haters get it .great post thank you and good peace to all.
My very first band to see in a large concert setting was Molly Hatchet. Springfield ( MA ) Civic Center, 1980. They were the opening band for The Outlaws, but I was there that night because Hatchet was playing. They ripped that joint, with Danny Joe on vocals. The Outlaws were great, too. Everytime I saw Hatchet ( early 80's ) they never disappointed, Farrar or Danny Joe. Nice that You Tube gives them a world stage....
I know I've posted here before (2 months ago) but everytime I hear this song it's like the first time. Sooooo sweet! Had some very bad news yesterday (or today depending on where you are) a good friend of mine in Ft Lauderdale died on 31/07. He would have loved this, especially a Florida band - even though he was originally from New Jersey. RIP Rick....God Bless. Go see some of the stars up there.....
This is great song. I saw these guys back in 76 or 77 in Macon,Ga. They were playing in a bar on Cherry St. Standing room only every night they played there.
3006shooter, welcome home brother and thank you for serving our nation! That night in Fayetteville made a good memory for a lot of us no doubt. To me it never mattered which uniform someone was wearing, we were all fighting for the same thing and a brother in arms is a BROTHER no matter the uniform or the unit patch.
last i saw them was at Cole County Fair.. approx 4 yrs ago .. by son's were with me and told me .. "damn dad this band rocks in person." was so proud..
One of the best rocksingers, really parsonal and deep voice. Luckily I saw them once in Finland with original singer. Second time was not so good, if you know, what I mean.
Motto Hed yep, I saw a bunch of guys using the Molly Hatchet name at a strip joint in Hinesville GA back in 91 or 92, they were loud. And loud. And...played with a lot of volume? It sure wasn't THE Molly Hatchet, though.
Southernborn Per the Molly Hatchet songfacts: Although Dave Hlubek's epic "Fall Of The Peacemakers" alludes to both Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy as well, it is primarily about Lennon with its overt references to "Imagine" and "Give Peace A Chance". Bruce Crump who now lives in Powhattan Virginia near Richmond Va has also confirmed this Also an interview record with Brown by Jim Ladd says it as well.
Back in '83 when I was almost 12, I heard this on the radio and waited patiently for the band's name to come along. The DJ did his bit and ended by calling them the 'world's ugliest band' and I thought Damn! They sounded so good! Later in high school I saw their pic in Kerrang! mag and decided they weren't so bad and now decades later am still listening to them!!
Well well well... we meet again! LOL. I love Hatchet. I've seen them live when Danny Joe Brown, was still singing... First two albums were the best. The new incantation of Hatchet just isn't the same... Oh, still havent heard back from our 'lil buddy' yet.
04softail70 Holy cow! Small (cyber) world! I really didn't think anyone listened to Hatchet anymore. They never went mainstream. Too "ugly"? Lol. This is a surprise! Hello to you. (P.S. maybe he's dead..).
Fashion Earrings My man they were mainstream in the 70's and 80's when I was well...younger!! What a sound!!!. Sorry my lady I didn't see your beautiful picture.
This is music for the soul, man. Take any 10 bands from the last 10 years, put them together, and you have about a quarter of the rock power these guys generated. They don't make music like this anymore, to our sorrow. Long Live Southern Rock!!!
This is very True.
I agree I still listen to MH . I seen them in concert 1982 Norman Oklahoma (sorry can’t remember exact year) Danny Joe Brown wasn’t in that tour..
20+ years
All I've got to say is Danny Joe Brown had a voice of gold in the context of that band. Saw them live in concert during the original DJB years and they were incredible.
This is Hatchet's best song and one of the best southern rock songs ever recorded. The jam at the end is outstanding....
I'm only a Brit, and we don't know much about rock bands. Right?
I've always loved these guys, bought their first albums and always thought they were the best rock band to come from FL.
RIP - DJB.
This band still does it for me....
Cheers..........
such an underrated band, saw them many times back in the 70's-80's
How can a person not like southern rock and roll? Freebird, green grass and high tides and this guitar anthem by Molly Hatchett. Long live the south!
The Band was never the same w/o Danny Joe Brown..RIP Brother...
i just turned 17 and my dad died when i was 13... i still remember when i was a little bitty baby boy born in the in the sticks of mississippi, hearin my diddy sing this song... man i miss him but this song reminds me of him... so this is for u dad! (i love you) - your son Edge

" I'll Always Love you

LOVE Danny Joe Brown's voice and spirit! You can see how ALIVE he was! R.I.P. DJB
I totally agree. This has always been my favorite Hatchet song, and this song live is like watching Freebird live.
Wow..love this! Miss you Danny Jo Brown!❤
I love the way Danny walks off the stage, the boys gather together and turn the dogs lose on em! It was a chance encounter on a dock in the Arlington section of Jacksonville when I was kid that made me want to be a musician. Danny, me, a fishing pole and a bottle by his side. you shoodve in all honesty..come 4ward with this story..incredible!!!

Incredible incredible guitar work! What a helluva tight band. Sooooo good to listen to this fantastic track again!
my brother inlaw introduced me to Molly Hatchet with this song in 1982 when i was 12yo. i remember i was blown away. it still blows me away when i hear it today.
I just keep, keep, keep coming back to this song. RIP DJB.....
One of the greatest song in the history of rock.
Thank you Molly Hatchet for all the great music you gave us when I was growing up and graduating from high school!
Totally agree with you! All Southern Rockers are just regular blue collar guys who are passionate about their ass kicking music. Don't forget Marshall Tucker Band and Charlie Daniels Band
Love you more today than ever 😘💕😘💖 till the day I die sorry for your passing last year I'll keep playing it forever rest in peace
RIP
Playing it now
One of the Most underrated bands.Great lyrics, sick guitar, and my favorite is the the huge bass background throught the last 6 minutes or so. Kick ass song
Of all the great Hatchet songs this one to me was the king. Gator Country and Dreams were great, but this was it. In Roanoke Va in 1984 the audience stood for this song the whole way through it.
The main riff that kicks in around 4:20 has always reminded me of opening to "Story in Your Eyes" by Moody Blues. Great songs by both bands.
Probably their best song, it gives me chills
I never tire of this song....and the live versions are epic. Stereo loud, windows down, drive.
4:55 onwards does it for me.
Nick Simpson same! I just wish we had better live videos of those times.
Yep.....4:55 is when the fun STARTS !
Amen brother, Amen. Thank you for your service as well. I used to have a friend at work who served in the 82nd from '85-'89 and hit Panama. This song carried me through Army basic training back in -84
@ 5:07 A southern band can NEVER have to many guitar players wacking away at the same time :)
"How many times must good men die?" R.I.P. Danny Joe Brown
2020 and still appreciating the amazing Molly Hatchet RIP
first time i ever heard this i was around 17.... now, 20 years after, still feels the same... unbelievably great!
Saw them year's ago!
(Early 80's)
Love em.
When I leave this world at my wake and right after they play Loch Lomond, I want them to play this; loud and proud. I'll hear it.
Peace to Loch Lomond !.
Molly Hatchet is the shit. I am 53 now, but saw them a dozen times when I was younger. One of the best concert southern rock bands ever.
I was not expecting to see Danny Joe on this......how nice. RIP.
"Fall Of The Peacemakers"
A king without a sword
A land without a king
A truth without a voice
One song left to sing
One song to sing
A wise man told me there's something you should know
The way you judge a man is to look into his soul
And you'll soon see everything.
A voice from the past cried "Give peace a chance"
He paid our price now he's free at last
Imagine, we called him a dreamer!
How many times must good men die?
How many tears will the children cry?
'Til they suffer no more sadness
Stop the madness,
Oh, stop the madness.
If ashes are ashes and dust is dust
At our journey's end then return we must
To the sands of the shore
White doves in flight
Peace to all
But tell me why the peacemakers fall
Must we bury anymore?
The hush of the crowd as the horse rode by
A black lace veil hid the tears from her eyes
And we all wept in silence
How many times must good men die?
How many times will the children cry?
'Til they suffer no more sadness
Oh, stop the madness
Oh, stop all the madness...
AND THAT, my friends....is how it's done!!!! Southern rock at it's very finest.
i loved it when they stood shoulder to shoulder like i a firing squad on stage fo rsolos
One of the Greatest ever, at the End of July they´re coming back to Germany -- and i´ll be there ... saw them 20 years ago, 11 years ago -- and still counting the Days... RIP Danny Joe-- but Southern Rock still lives on .... Hell Yeah :)
Molly Hatchet and Lynyrd Skynyrd by far the best southern rock there is and born and formed in my home Florida
I remember listening to this song back in high school, early 80s, thinking, WOW, these guys have been around forever..............now almost 30 years later I'm still listening to this great song..........where have the years gone. Great tune.

He would have loved this, especially a Florida band - even though he was originally from New Jersey.

Indeed... "Epic" describes this perfectly!
3006shooter, welcome home brother and thank you for serving our nation! That night in Fayetteville made a good memory for a lot of us no doubt. My total favs- one last ride and Devil's canyon... maybe they should've embraced pink spandex...!
Lol... nah! They defenately weren't the 80's 'hairband' types with the spandex and make-up! But that was funny! They weren't in to 'Fabulousness' LOL
Fair winds and Following seas Brother!
In honor of John McCain. Thank you for your service and RIP.
Do some homework on the "Songbird". Why ruin the comments with political BS?
