    Lyrics:
On the edge of sundown, a man rode into town
His clothes were old and dirty like the guns he wore low down
And as he rode the people stared, tried to look on him
He's the man who'll take your life, take your life to boothill
Sleeps by day and rides by night
Like a mongrel always lookin' for a fight
Got cold steel a bowie knife, just his way of life
He took no one, no not a sound, stares at the edge of town
Only time that he'll be found, is on the edge of sundown
Take you for your dollars babe, take you for your gold
Make your life so miserable, he's gonna leave you mean and cold
And then he'll head on out, to another town
The only time when he'll be found, is on the edge of sundown
    Next time he'll be sundown
He's a killer and a robber and he'll make you grieve
Shoot you in the back or in your sleep
    Got no name or identity
Livin' in the wind, he's free-

One thing TH-cam has allowed me to learn is that Danny Joe Brown was a fucking amazing frontman with awesome stage presence, and always looked like he was having a blast. Criminally underrated.

While everything you said is true, something youtube can never explain is how much this band loved the people. They played in tiny bars across the south east.
I put my wife on stage in 1993, DJB stepped to her side & the guitarist stepped right on up beside her, while I took a picture. No other band in the world would have done that. Any other band would have tossed me out on my head.
I love DJB & Molly Hatchet.

These ridiculously juvenile comments always crack me up; the breathy high-school girl declaration that someone is “the greatest of all time!!!!” says far more about the immaturity of the poster than about the object of their pubescent crush. I like Danny Joe’s voice probably as much as any sane adult, but come on…😂

I saw MH twice, loud as hell, but had an appreciation for Danny Joe Brown, diabetic, never well controlled(back then doc knew there were two types, not much else) but he played , sang and partied with the rest of the 70s culture. His voice is still one of a kind

I miss you so much. I grew up with you. I remember when you were 14 , I had a crush on you , you never knew. Not till years later when you got with Hatchet. I remember sitting in one of the bar y'all were playing in watching y'all play. Having asked us to come, wanting someone there y'all knew. Y'all didn't know the bar, being it was the first time playing there. That was the early days , before you got famous. That was the night Rocky set your hair on fire from the flash pod , by hitting to soon. And I was try to keep you from killing him. Which I took you outside to combed your hair out trying to fix it. I told you then to get your mind off Rocky lol , I remember you were surprised. You've come a long way since you were 14. I'm so proud of you. I'll miss you my old friend and Steve the most , I'll miss all of you . I'll never forget you. You'll always have a special place in my heart. I love you Danny. Rest in peace sweetheart. You'll never be forgotten. ❤️

So was their tour bus the reddish maroon one with the FWD album cover on the side. They were getting tires there in Baldwin fl. Rip DJB Hatchet will always hold great memories for me along with Blackfoot and the Johnny VanZant Band.

I got into Southern Rock back in the late Seventies in the UK and had to import this album from the States.
Can anyone shed a light on why DJB split with Molly Hatchet?

This is an awesome song!! I remember watching MTV for hours and hours hoping they would play this vid. Which they would but only VERY SPARINGLY. The one and only album from this band is pretty damn good(should get re-mixed and or remastered) but..... You would think the entity that is currently calling themselves Molly Hatchet would look into that and squeeze another couple drops of original Hatchet blood for their use. It's hard for me to knock on fellow musicians but the money that is being made off of the backs of the original 5 is shameful. I hope you are donating some of your income to the families of the orig. 5!!
