    I’m happy buying my watches in the boutique, I really enjoy the experience it’s something special. Nothing like a box fresh watch and peeling the stickers off whether it’s Tudor, Omega or Rolex. Buying a second hand watch on the internet isn’t the same.

    I’ve always bought my Tudors from the secondary market to protect me from such drops. I tend to have to wait for about a year after the launch of a new model to get the one that I want but thats an acceptable trade off for me

    Actually price depreciation is the norm. Used products are supposed to sell cheaper than new products bought directly from the store. And I am totally agreeing with you. I always buy new, be it be cars, watches, electronic devices etc. Firstly because I am rich and secondary I just do not like buying used products when I can afford new products. And I never intend to sell what I bought.

      The idea of buying a non limited edition watch on the secondary market for more than retail is revolting. The current Rolex practices are unsustainable. The younger generation that wanted to buy their first entry level Rolex to celebrate a milestone but were treated like garbage by a retail worker now have a sour taste in their mouth when they think of Rolex. Give it 10 years and those watches will be selling for a discount on the secondary market and ADs will be begging for customers.

    I bought two Tudor watches for myself and one for my lady at the AD. The AD experience is always the best way to go. It has entertainment value. As you know, entertainment and ambiance is always a part of the cost.
    I am at the point where getting one at secondary market price is definitely a treat.

    I sold my remaining Tudor watches in my collection:
    Pelagos 39 - purchased in Nov '22 for £3,500 (did receive a £250 gift voucher) sold in May '23 for £2,800
    Pelagos FXD MN21 - purchased in Nov '21 for £2,920 and sold in Jan '24 for £2,800
    So taking into consideration I purchased the P39 and got £250 off, that's a 15% drop. The FXD MN21, I also got off with only losing £100 over 24 months of ownership. Sold both to a dealer as I didn't want to risk selling it privately and running the risk of losing the watches through scams, etc.

  • @GrantWay-v4n
    @GrantWay-v4n หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Used in the UK. Tudor watches depreciate around £450.00p Sterling per year. The Pelagos sells at £4,320.00p today, a 2021 sells around £2,600 or less that’s a loss of around £573.00p per year.

    I own approximately 50 watches from about $300- $20k nothing crazy , I’ve only ever bought maybe 3-4 in an authorized dealer , I don’t buy used because I’m a head case about scratches and damage I didn’t do . I also don’t care about building a relationship with some salesman who sees me as nothing more than an ATM ., I buy grey market . Best of both worlds I save a lot of money generally and, when prices get out of control I stop buying the pricey hard to get models . I don’t care about manufacturers warranty as I’ve never had a watch fail in the first 3-4 years anyway . And I could care less about resale as I’ve never sold a watch , just my opinion your mileage may vary

      I always buy in sales and grey market- have bought a couple times from AD but the experience is nonsense to me after doing it once. Yeah it was nice buying a Rolex from a boutique but the staff know less about watches than I do so the process is awkward as I have to listen to them tell me untruths.
      I got 20% off my Reverso duoface before the price hikes. The JLC boutique offered me nothing, watches of Switzerland offered me 3% off 😄

    Just a few days ago I bought a BB54 for my local AD for $3,900 and it was quite happy to pay the retail price at the AD. I'm not sure if you're aware but there are many fakes of this already out, and buying it from an AD guarantees you're watch isn't going to be a fake, of course you can find out pretty quickly by looking at the movement, but who wants to hassle of dealing with that? Also I think it's a good idea to support the brick and mortar stores because they do provide a service. Not everybody should look to get the cheapest deal, sometimes supporting the AD is the right thing to do. And at 3,900 for the quality of this watch I'm feeling pretty good about it.

    Buying new from AD’s you generally won’t get a discount. So you’re advocating buying pre owned, where the previous owner got bummed by a watch dealer so you can buy 15% below retail.. just buy the new watch, and when buying write it off. People who buy with price retention in mind shouldn’t be buying anything other than gold, silver or bonds, certainly not majority of watches.

    • @DadeMurphie

      You gave no reasoning to take the financial hit. "Just buy the new watch" why buy it at full price? You can even get never worn with the stickers still on them Tudors at a discount. Someone receives a new Tudor as a gift doesn't want it and sells it to a dealer who then sells it to you.

    You're breaking my heart as I have the first two watches! 😂 In all seriousness though, I'm not concerned about the depreciation for the following reasons: 1. I'm not looking to sell my watches short to medium term. 2. Rolex owns Tudor, and you can be sure that as they elevate into $20k+ territory for entry level models, Tudor will be elevated to fill the void in the$10k- $15k category. 3. Rolex used to offer occasional discounts, Tudor don't. In 10 years if I do decide to sell, theres no way I'll be taking a loss.

What will you pay in repairs? I would never buy a luxury watch with my hard-earned money without a manufacturer’s warranty. Along that same vein, I will buy a watch to wear and not to sell later.

    I have a Black Bay GMT here in the UK, new today they are £3780, used they are around £2300.
    However I paid £2533, so the depreciation over 3 years has been less than 10%.

    I had a recent experience while passing through Canada. I saw a Tudor AD on my way back to the states and decided to stop in. I've been interested in the Black Bay Chrono Panda and a few other models. I've handled these watches before and know what to expect when manipulating the wind, engaging the pushers, etc. When adding to the wind there was something noticeably wrong, and it felt like it was skipping. I proceeded to inquire about buying it but would only do so at a discount. They didn't entertain my request and told me that I would have to pay full price and that left a bad taste in my mouth, mostly for the AD not so much Tudor. After that experience I am far less set on buying new from an AD considering that, and the expected depreciation just for it being used. I have taken my search to Ebay and found some great examples that won't hurt the bank nearly as much.

    I'm 58 and going back to the 80's I still cannot get past the perception that Tudor is a poor mans Rolex. Don't get me wrong. There are a few models I love and would like to own. I do have a 79280 Tudor Tiger chronograph and in my opinion, it's as close as you can get to a Daytona. Would also like to add a vintage 7928 but prices are crazy. Since the black bay came out in 2012, I've been at the AD twice with one on the wrist and credit card in hand but last minute handed it back and bought a used 90's Rolex instead. I'm more into vintage Rolex and the BB 54 is tempting because it harks back to the 1950s submariners but I cannot get excited enough to fork over even $3,400 for a used one. The way I always looked at it is if you have $3,400, keep setting money aside for a used Rolex. Every Rolex I ever bought, which were all pre owned, except for one Submariner I bought new, increased in value.

      Tudor was invented to be a poor man’s Rolex but that was when Rolex was a tough robust good quality watch. Note they’re shiny luxury goods so for me modern Tudor with their technical improvements compared to 80s Rolexes are actually comparable to older Rolexes.
      Very few modern Rolexes I would want and very few older Rolexes I’d pay the asking price for. Older Rolexes at modern Rolex prices is insanity for me. Clearly the market disagrees though

      @manuel_winde Yes, I also lost interest in 2010, though I bought one of the last remaining 16610s in 2010. To me, the case could be made that Tudor has always been the one and only authorized homage maker to Rolex. Some examples are the modern Black Bay especially the 58 and 54, while a modern interpretation of the 1950s Tudor Submariners, the first Tudor Submariner 7922 was released in 1954, a year after the first Rolex submariner 6204 released in 1953. More proof Tudor is copying Rolex's heritage is the new BB 58 GMT as Tudor never had an equivalent 1950s 6542 no crown guard GMT Master.

    People who buy watches for investments don't understand the word investment. In a post COVID world where the government is no longer handing out lots of free money to the masses, all collectibles are declining. So don't fool yourself into thinking that pretty much all collectibles aren't declining in value. You buy a watch because you like it not because you think you're going to make money on it. If you're doing that you should learn how to invest properly.

    Concerning the Black Bay Pro, your analysis does not pick up on the fact that this is sold with three strap/bracelet types at three different retail prices, nor does it look at condition. You are looking at the retail price of the most expensive version and comparing that to the used price of all 3 versions, possibly most of them with the nato strap. Not really as simple as you depict.

    • @coldpizzawatchreviews
      @coldpizzawatchreviews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I plug in the exact reference number and use the market average that WatchCharts gives. A watch with no signs of wear will sell for more than one with scratches so I have to go with the average price.

    • @robertshafer10
      @robertshafer10 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you input M74970 but if you look at the references which WatchCharts looks at you will see that it is looking at all three versions. M79470-0001, M79470-0002, M79470-0003 so although you input the correct base reference number you are not showing a clear picture because WatchCharts does not differentiate between the three. Again not as simple as you depict.
      Almost all watches depreciate the exception is Rolex and maybe a few others. The market is now starting to normalize so soon maybe even Rolex will depreciate when the plummeting is over. Watches are not investments so depreciation is to be expected...

    I persobally dislike this type of content being a watch collector and enthusiast. I own Tudor and Rolex. But why would you tell someone to buy used because of market depreciation? Imo i would tell you to enjoy the AD experience, buy brand new, your name on the warranty card build a relationship with your sales associate maybe in the future you want a Rolex or harder to get model and you already have a good relationship and purchase history. It’s not about value it’s about experience and feeling good about what you buy. Most ADs will offer 24 month 0 financing on Tudor and Cartier if your credit is up to par. It’s like pinching pennie’s for luxury timepieces go buy a Gshock if you can’t afford it and work your way up. Buy at retail work on your relationship with the AD trust me you will be moving up quick to a Rolex it snowballs. Good luck 👍 Enjoy your life don’t penny pinch

      I buy Tudor, Rolex and Zenith as well as Vintage watches too.
      I have an excellent history with my AD’s and honestly if I have box,papers and all the links that is important to me . I don’t like to buy used for the simple fact is that you can’t trust with 100% that a used watch wasn’t abused in a way that you may not see it from the case etc. Knowing I just bought from my AD’s is a comfort level as well . As far the using eBay as a guide on what different brands are selling for it’s not accurate . Are you getting box and papers and has the watch been serviced in the manner that the manufacture would service . Also you don’t know if the sapphire crystal is generic or OEM. What about parts, how do you know that the authenticity guarantee checks each and every link on the bracelet and even other parts , I have heard all types of issues buying from eBay and that’s why I have not pulled the trigger on a couple of vintage watches on eBay .
      I can always meet a seller at Rolex or Tudor and have the watch maker check it out to authenticate it but trusting a third party unless they are a certified watch maker from Rolex / Tudor it’s a risk .
      I have an independent watch maker who is 80 years old and trained in Switzerland with Rolex and he himself told me that beware of anything being sold from watch dealers online because they use parts and even movements from other watches to make a used watch sellable .
      Chono 24 tends to be not accurate either

    Tudor doesn't interest me, like, AT ALL. If I ever had the desire to purchase a High-End Submariner homage, I would just buy a Steinhart. If I only wanted a paltry 200m of water resistance, I would buy an Invicta. When the lowly Tissot Seastar 1000 has better water resistance for less than 1/4 the price of the Tudor, you just know that the only reason that they people still buy them is because they see them as a more "sensible" Rolex. People are basically brand-wh0res and the Fauxmega Moonswatch craze is absolute proof of it.
    Many Tudor fan boys/girls/whatever say ridiculous things lke "Tudor is better than Omega!" which makes me realise that these are just a bunch of Rolex owner-wannabees with an inferiority complex stemming from the fact that they do not, in fact, own Rolexes (but they think that they do). They own Submariner homages with a bunch of inexplicable extra bumps on their bracelets.
    Tudor is perhaps the most fantastically overpriced Swiss watch under $5,000 simply because Rolex owns them and people think that somehow makes Tudor special, but it doesn't. Rolex owning them doesn't change the fact that they're a very low-spec dive watch with an even lower spec aluminum bezel insert (pathetic!). That might work in a vacuum but watches like Tissot, Mido, Longines, Christopher Ward and Oris do not have this ludicrous "feature" as they all have engraved ceramic bezel inserts.
    Tudor is extremely unimpressive to me and always will be if nothing changes.
