@chandlerbraaten847 yes, but even so, if the mustang was manual he could launch harder as well, thats all I'm saying...the auto is a handicap unless fully built.
Being that it's explorer stuff, he'd have to swap ecu's or holley termi x swap it, as I don't believe that ecu is cam swappable similar to the speed density foxes, it'll go haywire with a cam installed. Also the explorer elbow at the throttle body is robbing him power, richard holdener proved that on the engine dyno.
@@infamousnova I’m thinking my low end torque got me out ahead off the line, these 5.0s are pretty torquey. He closed the gap quick though so had it been a quarter mile he’d have got me by a few car lengths.
@@adonian it has a 2.0L, it’s been engine swapped for a turbo JDM STI engine. Its model name is Impreza 2.5RS, which indicates original engine size but also means it’s a 2-door, different interior, maybe some other things. At least that’s my understanding, any Subaru gurus can chime in.
Old school is way more cool. Already electric cr@p is fast, one day electric will out do top fuel in tine but never in cool factor, one day we will just be able to de and re materialise at the finish line at the speed if light, who cares, old school V8 drag cars as slow as they will seem are just dang cool 👍
The Stand is a rocket our of the hole. Kinda surprised that wasn't the AWD's advantage. I expected the opposite. Him out of the hole then the stang runs him down.
@@noboltsleftbehind Damn that’s light. But yeah, you’re both light. Long long time ago I raced a Mitsubishi all wheel drive turbo car. We came out of the hole at the same time but that all wheel drive just pulled on me by 2 cars then we were the same speed down the rest of the track. I’m sure that car was super light. It was a 90’s car so I’m sure it was lighter than cars of today. I think it was a Lancer. Very plain squarish car. But it scooted out of the hole.
Naturally Aspirated 5.0 Windsor is no match against a Turbo charge Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. Even though dough both cars weigh the same, the Turbo Charge engine launch hard. If you supercharge the 5.0 Windsor then the story will be different.
just to highlight this apples to oranges thing? Mustang did not offer a '5.0' in 68... it was a 302 They did not offer a 6 speed manual or 8 speed auto.. or ... a myriad of things that were most likely computer controlled. Believe me.. I get it. The new turbo cars are impressive, but imho can't compete in coolness.

Shoot I like a classic but I'm taking the Subaru here over the mustang. That gen Impreza is so dang light and nim le.
I'd prefer the 6 speed manual Impreza.
4 speed automatic in a V8 sucks.
A 6 speed manual V8 is awesome.
That was a good run from both cars.
Thanks for posting this. Those 5.0s have a ton of potential.
Of the mustang was manual it would have won , parasitic loss in automatic sucks
It was only close because subie boy was babying it. With a good proper launch he would have shot out to 2 car lengths minimum.

Both beautiful classics, classic pony Mustang and classic OG rally Impreza.
Ya might want to try shifting manually next time. Manual valve body, new converter nothing un streetable. Big Fun
A close race but never mind all that, it's Christmas, treat your beautiful Mustang to a new wood rim steering wheel.

A cam kit to tie him and a converter to give you the win.
Fun runs! 3.73 gears and shift it manually. You'll have a decent jump in et

He wasn't giving it much out of the hole. Get a tune with launch control and those subaru's tear out of the hole like a scalded dog.

Its already 25 years old. I'm sure the mustang has had some love to keep it in good shape. Anything can last if given the proper care.
