We're both crazy. I do crazy stuff like this too. About 7 years ago, my parents' house had a lot of termite damage on the whole front, load-bearing wall. It was well over 50' of it, and it wrapped around the corner of the house. Essentially the whole front end needed to be gutted out and rebuilt. It entailed putting in new windows, hanging a new door, breaking out the stucco, essentially breaking it down to bare framing or what was left of it. I never ever done anything like it before, and honestly there was a lot of trepidation. But I worked for my uncle who's a general contractor (commercial) so I figured I'm pretty handy and it couldn't be that hard. I was bold enough to try. I pulled permit, the inspector failed me four times, and finally passed. It took a little over a year. I did everything except the stucco and rough-in wiring; I hired someone for that. But now everything is stronger than ever....My neighbor to the left had his house torn down, and he built a new-construction house. I asked why he did it, and he told me had termite damage too (about the same footage). I asked him how much the contractors wanted to rebuild his house and he was quoted $100,000. This was 12, 13 years ago mind you. His new construction home ended up costing $400,000 to build. Anyways, my uncle was saying I was wasting my time trying to DIY. But I'm glad didn't listen to him because it gave me the experience. Just last year in 2023, I gutted out my master bath and redid the shower all by myself. I did the mudpan, the Oatey liner, everything by code. That would've probably cost $20-30K if I hired contractors to do it. I'm not that rich where I can spend that kind of money, just for the convenience of them knocking it out in a month, whereas I took almost 3 months to do it. Plus contractors get greedy and sloppy (they'll cut corners if you're not watching the work periodically). There's a lot of experience I gained from it. I’ve never seen a garage door installed on the outside of the building. Is that how they do it in LA? Not to be condescending, just wondering
@@xozindustries7451 I don’t think it’s an LA specific thing, it’s just an option (as per the manufacturer) to be installed either interior or exterior. Obviously when it’s on the outside you have to build an enclosure (or buy theirs) for the roll up part to keep the weather out. Probably makes it easier that we don’t get much rain here.
why a New York style outdoor Roller door ?
A regular overhead garage door would have ran straight into the car lift, and an interior mounted roll-up door would have also ran into the car lift 😂
@@noboltsleftbehind i saw that at the end the Indoor Model would not Work
Those doors are meant to be installed on the inside..... i have a 2 post lift in my garage and its more than enough. That thing is huge. You jave almost no space left.
Why the heck is the garage door on the outside???😂
Can’t stop thinking about why u installed the garage door on the outside….
@@louieystberg no room on the inside, the lift is in the way. And believe it or not, these doors are ok to be installed on the outside if you choose. You just need to build a little roof over, which I’ll be doing soon 🤘
@@noboltsleftbehindaaah ok. Anyways, good work, I’m a new sub from Northern Europe. 👍🏼👍🏼
Isn’t the frame supposed to inside the garage ?
Roll up door always goes on inside!
Not true! 😂 You can totally install them on the outside as long as you build a hood. Lots of people have done it 👍
It’s designed to keep water out and what about protection? I can hook my truck to it and pull the door frame off and take anything you have!! That’s why a garage door goes on inside!
@ the hood is what keeps the water out, it’s like a little roof that completely encloses the top of the roller. The door manufacturer sells them for exterior installations (I’m building my own, naturally 😂) and following that logic, couldn’t you just back your truck INTO an interior garage door and get in just as easily? I know this from experience as someone who has accidentally ran into a garage door. Haha.
Yes but still looks like sh:t?!?
@@braddoan7196 what? 😂
"I'm gonna do it for free" famous last words when installing a hydraulic lift 💀
Complaining about it would have cost to install the door. But I'm sure what you do is worth your over ppl riced income. I love how people complain about what others get paid, but they are worth what they get paid.
Hey Dude, do you know after raising the lift, before getting UNDER the lift to Make Sure the "safety locks" are in the slots!!!! Even a unloaded lift would kill you if it malfunctioned & dropped on you. EVERYTIME you raise that lift, you need to check the safety locks are in the slots. COPY THAT???
That was a lot of work, but I am sure you will enjoy it.
Shouldn't the door go on the inside of the shop?
@@andynicoll8566 most of the time they’re installed on the inside, but you’re totally fine to install it on the outside. You need to build an enclosure of course, which I plan to do 👍
@@noboltsleftbehind cool
Hopefully u guys are holding up on the fires…
👍
That door should be on the inside of the building.
@@75rdube As weird as it may seem, these can totally be installed on a building’s (as per the door manufacturer). You do need to build an enclosure for it, which I didn’t get to in the video but am doing this week 🤘
You would have been great at building pyramids
Stay strong
They wanted $3500 to install a garage door??? That’s crazy
@@micahpaul20 yeah I’m not sure if I got the “I don’t want to do it” price or what, but I’m starting to think I might go into the business myself 😂. It was not particularly difficult.
That's California for you... SMH!
@@jamesharris2615 for real man, labor prices are no joke out here.
Gotta pay the taxman 😂
I think that door should be inside not out side in the weather.
@@duanegoffinet2544 I’m building an enclosure for it 👍
Youve never did anything like this before or seen it done have you

I thought the challenger is around 4000lbs
@@ricky99996 I weighed my Challenger in a video a while back, it’s 3,500 lbs. But the lift can handle up to 9,000 lbs
@@noboltsleftbehind Oh I read 3500 in the description
@ ah I see, yeah I could have worded that better. The lift itself weighs 3,500 lbs
Trust me by the time you get done you will wish you let him install it

Hi! I would love to offer you car accessories. Would you be interested?🥰
I love silverados wish I had one to buy cheat
Why would you go with this type of lift and why so big if you don’t plan on putting 2 cars on it. Such a waste of working space
@@shootscoot8777 I needed the double lift to park a car in the very center and make use of my tall ceiling! I wanted as much headroom as possible. It also gives me much more space to work considering I don’t have two posts dead center of my garage that a single lift would have had. I’ll be using the the two unused outer ramps for storage. And I do intend on using it for two cars occasionally 🤘
@ hell yeah keep on man
