      I'm an absolute Messi fan, and the way he carries the team is really pleasant to watch. But I agree, these guys have stepped up in most of the games. Thank god for the coach using Alvarez (who runs his heart out time and time again) instead of Lautaro. DiMaria, if fit, could be also a key player to help get past the croatian experience. He can take some of the pressure from the little man.

    Argentina's journey in the past 3 years has been nothing short of a fairytale. Especially if they win it. One of the greatest journeys in football with a leadership masterclass from Messi. People wanted him to show character his whole career, but now that he does it every now and then, they consider him too arrogant. That's the price of being the goat. Always being compared to yourself. Messi always had this side to him too which exposes the people who never watched him consistently.
    This is a very special team, with absolute warriors who will get streets named after them if they win it.

    I can't believe even Simon believes that nonsense about Maradona carrying Argentina to 86 world cup. Is it just rosy retrospection or faulty memory. Did he inspire them as their best player? Yes, but did he do it alone? Far from it. In games where he couldn't be as effective, they still found ways to win, especially against Uruguay and Germany in the final. They had Valdano who was putting away chances, Burruchaga who was also orchestrating in midfield with Maradona, as well as a very mean defensive team with that 3 - 5 - 2 that often became a 5 at the back in defence. I expected better from Simon

    Tim Vickery is great. He's so calm and clear. Intelligent, shrewd and not argumentative. Speaks with authority. BUT he was wrong about Argentina not winning, France winning. And he's not correct about Mbappe. Mbappe was brilliant, no doubt about that,in the final. But he's terribly inconsistent. Vickery should watch PSG games every week. He misses 4 out of 5 pinpoint passes Messi gives him, he misses penalties, he misses sitters. He's selfish and plays for himself. He's toxic. He messes up the fluidity of the game. At the moment, he's slipped in ratings from 4th to 11th, with only 2 MOTMs to Messi's 8. Surprised at a good football brain like Vickery.

    • @elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633
      @elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now, he's down to 12. The one to watch is the Georgian phenomenon, Kava... who plays for Napoli. He's passed Mbappe. His ratings is 9th. He's not selfish, he passes, he dribbles, he plays tricks, he's a playmaker and scorer both, and he's very fast. Much, much better than Mbappe, who's a team wrecker.

You can say talent-wise they’re on the same level, as far as what they actually accomplished it’s not even close. Maradona had 1/10th of the career of Messi especially if he wins the WC this year. He’ll have played the most games ever at a WC, won it, won a Copa, won four UCL and almost certainly his EIGHTH Balon D’Or as well as his second WC Golden Ball AND a golden boot unless Mbappe scores multiple in the final. Stop this nonsense. Judging a player you never watched live based on YT highlights, great reasoning.

      Maradona was a genius of a player, he was so complete in that 86 world cup. I don't want to take anything away from Maradona being called the best, I can see clearly why people think that. Messi is just a different kind of player, Maradona was more direct, played in a time were you could literally kick somebody and get away with it.
      Messi's dribbling is different than Maradona, Maradona's skill was the best there is. Yet for me Messi's peak level was better than anyone's, only thing is Maradona's peak was at the world cup, so the impact it had on everyone was just bigger, also we have to mention, although you could kick somebody there lungs out back in 86 the teams left far more spaces than in today's game, the speed of play and the intensity is also a bit higher today than back in the day. But Maradona was something else in the 86 world cup, but there are a lot of similarities between Maradona in 86 and Messi in 2022.
