I believe that the best thing to happen to Argentina was losing the first game against Saudi Arabia. It was a wake up call. I'm so glad that Messi won the world cup. All the negativity he faced, all the nasty talk. Who's laughing now? Vamos Argentina... Vamos Lionel Messi... Vamos

I was telling a Brazilian fan this at like the 3rd group stage game. He claimed Brazil were doing better than Argentina when they barely beat Serbia and were flying from richarlison’s goal. Argentina were shocked early by Saudi after coming in to the tournament on a 36 game unbeaten streak. From that day they had KO stage awareness because every game right from the Mexico game was a chance they would leave the competition. Every game was like a final. Brazil and Spain and France didn’t have this problem and they got knocked out early apart from France cus they were comfortable

Im English and as far as i am concerned, Messi has carried his team to 3 copa america finals, and 2 world cup finals.
He was instrumental in all of them.
He has won the world cup and copa america.

Messi is greater mainly because of how long he has been on the top.

Argentina were flying in 2014, but Di Maria got injured in the game against Holland and had to miss the final. Ageuro was already injured, so Messi was had to play with a much reduced team in the finals, Higuaín at striker for eg. Messi and di Maria had such a good combination going that I'm sure they would have won had Di Maria been playing. Unbelievable final. Usually, in the last 3 or so decades, finals are decided by a single goal and have so few chances and are incredibly tense, both teams too afraid to lose. This one was so enthralling, I kept waiting for France to come alive, and after the 80th minute, the match went mental and into turbo mode. Certainly the best World Cup final, probably the best World Cup game since Italy vs Germany 1970 "the game of the century"-perhaps even greater.

Scaloni did with this Argentina team with Messi similar to what Bilardo did with Maradona. Lets remember Maradona story, Menotti didn’t call Maradona to the 1978 WC, then in 1982, Maradona was the new star, but not the center of the team.
