@@teacherdavid--eatplaylearn5013 Eight hours from now this full version goes live for 48 hours. I was hoping for the version with BVD as Judas and Alice Cooper as Herod. Tim Minchin and Mel C were quite good in this version.
Tim Minchin as Judas is amazing! Watch him rolling his eyes as the words “This is my blood you drink.” are said. I also rewatch the part Tim when screams “Why?!” (5:29) because I feel his frustration.
So, hear me out. Judas seems to be looking for any reason to not betray Jesus in the first verse. Even to the point of saying "If you want this, maybe I'll stay just to spite you." But then when he realizes that Jesus really wasn't gonna fight him on this, he gets angry, frustrated, and even a little hurt leading to the second verse.
My favorite moments of this scene and the entire show in general: 2:04 That little "not this shit again" eye-roll 2:20 Jesus starting to become unhinged 3:12 Judas calling out Jesus 3:52 That little mocking bow 4:32 Judas almost leaving but then deciding "nah, fuck it, we're not done talking about this" 5:22 "You'd have managed better if you'd had a plan! WHY?!" The anguish in his voice especially in that last roar is just *chef's kiss*
YES! To all. I think my absolute favourite is the eye roll though. It's so on point. Tim Minchin's performance in this is simply superb, like you said, the way he delivers that last line is so raw and emotional it just gets to the deepest of my soul.
The fact that at 4:22 he is crying is what gets me. Then at 4:24, he sees Mary and stops crying. He stops himself from crying and I don't know why but I like that little fact.
Tim's eye roll at 2:05 when he is like "oh no, there goes even more drama" is just perfection. But also, Ben Forster's rage is particularly beautiful here. He is hands down the angriest Jesus I've watched.
Tim Minchin is the best Judas in this production. His performance was believable and agonizing. He didn't just sing but acted the part as well. Tim got your attention and held on to it in all his scenes. Bravo! 👏👏👏👏

3:40 I swear half the plot of this musical is in the subtle little emotions between the lines. The facial expression of Judas and then that subtle little bow at 3:52 is just perfect - he's comprehended the grand plan, realizes how it will make him look, he doesn't want to do it, but will anyway because, ironically, he's the most close and loyal to Jesus.

I love how this plays out like a Housewives reality tv show during the big blow up during a dinner party. You have the apostles in the middle of the two fighting that are like: “Shit, Judas-you know how dramatic Jesus can be. He didn’t mean it. Let’s just sit down and keep eating.” And when Judas comes back to start up again, they’re just like; “Fuck. Guess we’re doing this. Let’s just stay quiet and let what happens, happens.”
Someone posted audio on TH-cam of what this sounded without pitch correction and basically Tim Minchin didn’t need it and he sounded just like this without the weird mechanical distortion on his sustained vowels or runs. The guy who played Jesus on the other hand...... oof. It sounded like he fried his voice and had a really hard time with the belts. His falsetto was fine, but the belting/shouting parts were bad.
@@Sharpe1502 I like to think that that was just one bad performance after straining his voice a bit too much and he’s actually a much better singer than that.
This competes pretty heavily with the original movie for quality, tbh. This one has a lot of amazing performances, one of my favorite being Pilate, Judas(Minchin does a WONDERFUL job), and Jesus ofc
The ensemble in this song is fantastic. I’ve never heard the Apostles’ lines sung so clearly with such clear harmonies. There’s something to be said for the more humble versions of the movie and even the original album, but just from a musical perspective this sounds fantastic.
Ughhhh!! The DYNAMICS between Minchin (Judas) and Forster (Jesus) is what gets me EVERY TIME I watch this production! They each bring so much to their character portrayals and play off each other perfectly! It's just SO. FREAKIN. GOOD! Come on Musical Theater!
What annoys me most about the use of autotune is that on top of being unnecessary it's not even well excecuted autotune. Like almost all recordings have some sort of subtle pitch correction but the autotune here is so harsh and sloppily done that it's actually distracting from the actual vocals which autotune should never do. Like if this is what your audio engineer hands you after post production, fire your audio engineer they're bad at their job.
Carl’s Judas seems to want the best for everyone. He knows that if Jesus goes down so do the apostles. “But so does Tim’s Judas. It’s the same character”. While true, Tim seems very directed towards Jesus as a friend. He doesn’t want anything bad happening to his friend. And when Jesus wants Judas to go betray him you can practically see Tim’s heart breaking which I think is fantastic acting

From what I've read, the live performance didn't have any autotune, they added it in later even though Minchin was against it. It's such a shame, you can tell the performances are great and I love Tim Minchin but it all gets ruined by the tuning.
I like that this musical has been enjoyed by people of diff religions, and shows a bit of what christians believe while not shoving theologies in peoples faces, so people can have a common ground of understanding (meaning it allows people to understand where we come from), but it is also able to tell so many heartfelt stories, that of judas, pilate, peter, and jesus. it gets into the grit of some of it without pg-ifying it, and it was revolutionary at the time it was first made, and it was super divisive, but it seems that all the controversy has died down and people are enjoying it. also everyone in this musical has beautiful voices.
@@marcogarcia6723 Listen to the bit just after 5:10 where Judas sings "I don't understand". For a brief moment he sounds like a robot as the autotune locks onto the higher pitch. Nobody: Me: **Trying to sing Jesus and Judas at once while playing guitar, failing and deciding to actually using Ben and Tim recording, still flapping my hands on my guitar like a bird, that can't fly** 😂 The part "cut out the dramatics" has actually some quick chord changes...
Wishing the Tim Minchin versions of the songs were available on iTunes, but hat way I could listen to them all the time and be constantly doubting my faith as I should be.
I know he is about to turn you in and get you crucified, but Jesus, did you really have to hit grunge Judas with the high Gethsemane note not once, but twice?! That seemed uncalled for
Even so, Tim doesn't need it. Why add it? I honestly can't speak for the others but I've heard enough of Tim's stuff to know. Even if there was a small mistake, they're almost even better, cuz then you know it was live. Maybe I'm just showing my age but audiences are losing sight of this.
The number of times I have watched this in the last five days is frankly unhealthy.
This production should have been playing forever. Amazing.
5:10 oh my goodness.
Why the autotune? Not needed. this is my favorite JCS song and the portrayal of Judas is legendary for the 2000s+ Tim owns this.
Is it really autotune? How can you tell? I’m asking because I have no idea how to tell if someone’s singing with autotune
@@marcogarcia6723 Listen to the bit just after 5:10 where Judas sings "I don't understand". For a brief moment he sounds like a robot as the autotune locks onto the higher pitch. There are several places in this clip alone that you can hear it once you know what you're listening for. Apparently Tim Minchin who plays Judas was really angry they autotuned him.
Nobody:
Me: **Trying to sing Jesus and Judas at once while playing guitar, failing and deciding to actually using Ben and Tim recording, still flapping my hands on my guitar like a bird, that can't fly** 😂
The part "cut out the dramatics" has actually some quick chord changes...
there is NOTHING more spectacular than this show. wow. just wow.
Wishing the Tim Minchin versions of the songs were available on iTunes, but hat way I could listen to them all the time and be constantly doubting my faith as I should be.
I have watched all small parts you share more than 30 times each. But still not enough. Please upload the whole musical for 48 hours. we need this!!!!
I know he is about to turn you in and get you crucified, but Jesus, did you really have to hit grunge Judas with the high Gethsemane note not once, but twice?! That seemed uncalled for
3:01 Peter was like: "Geez Jesus, was this really necessary?".
One of the biggest offenses in this production is forcing Tim Minchin to use autotune.
yeah why is that a thing im
confused
It was not used live, it was added in the sound mixing for the dvd.
Literally anyone can get famous if auto tune is allowed everywhere without fail 😕🤷
@@pawprints1986 He's on record on a podcast released after the DVD saying he was really fucking pissed off about it, they didn't ask him or anything. He said something like "I know I have plenty of weaknesses in my voice, but staying on pitch isn't one of them and autotuning my performance was completely unnecessary and really fucking rude"
Tim Minchin can’t sing and he can’t write music. Matilda is as much of a disaster as his casting in this
i didn't get a chance to see it so hopefully we can have it again?
One of my most fav scenes from this show idk why but it hits hard-
I really like this edgy production. I saw this in the 70s in Detroit. This has so much tension. Wonderful.
My absolute favourite JCS song 🥰
Me too!
Have you seen the Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson version from the 1973 movie? It rips your heart out just as effectively, but in a completely different way.
Oh man, this makes me miss live musical productions so much.😞
Yes, live audiences, the lights, the costumes, the whole shebang. It’s not the same on a screen sometimes.
This is easily the best production of jesus christ superstar
Hands down the best version ever produced that was filmed. The directing and quality of acting and singing is so amazing. The current US tour is pure garbage next to this
Have I just watched the best 7 minutes on TH-cam?
4 dislikes? Looks like 4 people are jaded mandarins
5 people now
or people know that this is actaully a pretty mediocre version and the acting is very basic and that they have auto tune mics but hey ho
@@lukebingham9001 you do know that the auto tune wasn’t live, right?
@@lukebingham9001 At least they know how to spell actually. Lol
King herod's fake accounts
Tim can sing about Jaded Mandarines and it sounds awesome.
I love how Well Ben and Tim Play Angry through Song ❤❤
Jesus: I thought you were bae, turns out you're just fam
Everyone: Bruh
This Judas is amazing!
So no one cared about our poor boy Peter when he was nearly sent to kiss the ground at 3:01 by Jesus
Powerful version. Great job and emotion comes through!
“Our ideals die around us and all because of YOU” is such a cold line
I saw the 2018 version first and thought, holy shit this is amazing there can’t be anything better than this, then saw this version and realized how wrong I was
Best Jusus Christ Super Star ever, all characters.
This musical is so beautiful.
Tim Minchin just has that solid perfect rock voice.
One of my favourites from this show!
No doubt the best staging of JCS!
Yes!
oh I dont think so, mediocre acting, strange melodies (so much different than original) a nd so much autotune... I think our czech musical without acting is better than this weird attempt
@@rainix3098 It all comes down to opinions.
Tim was so good
Que maravilla, me gustaria verlo en vivo en Colombia
I watch this on Broadway HD at least once a month, such an amazing production ❤️
3:47 is always in my head
Замечательное исполнение! Эта рок опера- одна из моих любимых. Спасибо!!!
We need Just need a compilation of all the Pilate songs in this production
No autotune , no playback , no syncs just pure voice talent ❤
Except Judas has auto tune 🙃
@@mrjukeboxparty4563 No he does not ....
God bless you for posting this
The Movie from 1973 is really remarkable and the cast is very good. It's good to remember Lloyd Weber in 2023 and one of his masterpieces.
Jesus Christ Superstar is awesome 👍😎
I love the expressions of the apostles and disciples in the background. Their expressions suggest Judas hits a little too close to home.
I love this show so much. The emotion is so amazing and heartbreakinh
4:33 when the music changes man its soo good
Could you guys upload this production’s version of Herod’s song? The imaginative staging blew me away and I want to be able to share it!
I love this so much!
I never had seen a performance so spetacular, in voices and body expression
Still extremely interesting that Mary and Jesus are dressed similarly both in terms of colour and style
I love the differences in Tim’s tone compared to other productions. An-im-AAALLL bloody beautiful
