I'm developing the same problem! I saw this show when they streamed it last year and was blown away but for some reason this year I've become obsessed!
The part that just kills me is how hard Tim worked on his voice for this production. His voice and technique are dramatically improved here compared to his earlier work (and I absolutely love his earlier work). From some of the other comments, it sounds like they toned down the autotune in this clip, but it's still pretty heavy in places. I don't have an ear for sound editing and I can hear it. I'm sure there's a fair amount of sound editing and subtle autotuning in everything I listen to that I'm not even aware of, but this rises to a level that just makes me sad for Tim.
Autotune is pretty easy to spot when it's applied heavily, basically there is no "in between" between notes, like the difference there is between a slide and stairs.
"You've begun to matter more than the things you say". Powerful.. and exactly what's wrong with a certain segment of his fan club these days.. who tend to ignore what he said.
Badass amazingly talented singer and actor. I love the moment at 4:36 where he’s exasperated and does that thing when you’re frustrated af but you smile and sigh at the “He won’t listen to me” and then proceeds to do cool rising vocalization as he walks up the steps. Badass
I'm addicted to this song, especially sung by Tim Minchin. When I finally saw this musical online this year it opened my eyes, and I ended up in total support for Judas. It's interesting how a well known story can so easily be turned on its head!
What an actor. What a role for him lol. What a damn voice. God I love when Tim Minchin sings genuinely, and his expressions on here were all 1000% spot on.
C'mon, OBVIOUSLY Tim stole this show. No surprise there. I mean, even though the musical is called Jesus Christ Superstar, the person we see the most and maybe even feel greater compassion towards is Judas. It's like Hamilton situation (with Alex kinda being the main guy, but Burr having the most lines and time to shine). Sooooooo.. Yeah. I's not even that Tim stole the show. It WAS his show in the first place))
i was legit thinking about this last night. in history, burr and judas are hated. however, in hamilton and jcs respectively, while they are still an antagonist of sorts, they’re viewed with a lot more sympathy. for burr, id say the songs that allow this are wait for it and the world is wide enough. for judas it’s heaven on their mind, blood money and the song where he commits suicide (i’ve forgotten the name lol)
Please post Ben Forster’s performance of Gethsemane next🙏🏻🙏🏻 (I know you’ve posted other performances of Gethsemane on here already, but his performance is exquisite & one of the best🙌🏻)
Little lyric analysis be prepared and forewarned… Judas says first “they think they’ve found a new messiah… and they’ll hurt you when they FIND they’re wrong” but then he says later “and they’ll hurt you if they THINK you’ve lied…” I love this as it shows that he believes Jesus’s message and beliefs but doesn’t think he’s divine, or if he does he doesn’t think it important To him Jesus speaks the truth but he thinks the truth is being bent because of his ego and his message is being forgotten and replaced with just the man and person… and to Judas it’s gone too far
Love this bit of analysis. What good is the message if it gets overshadowed by a cult of personality? You can really hear Judas's fear of being caught in the middle of a mob when it all comes down on his friend -- of losing his friend after all of it. Tim Minchin was the perfect choice for this role.
PS: Tim Minchin’s new album in dropping Nov 20, 2020: Apart Together. Several tracks are available now. Check iTunes, Apple or others. Apart Together really rips my heart open.
This performance thrills me how ever many times I hear it. Tim Minchin is a true musician, his phrasing and perfect pitch is a joy, but his acting skills also show his passion and subtlety. The final bars are a lesson in how to make to make it look easy, when it really ain't. Mel C and Ben were also inspired cast members.
I bought the DVD of the 2012 arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar a couple months ago. I love the songs that have been separated out here to showcase Tim Minchin as Judas. This is an amazing performance by an extremely talented man.
Only just saw this show for the first time, Tim is honestly the best thing about this show. He steals it. Everyone is astounding but Tim Minchin really is a scene stealer 😂 My god his voice gives me 90's, early 2000's rock vibes, takes me back to my 13 year old self. Definitely the rockstar of the piece. The guy playing Simon also blew me away! Thrilling this show! 🎸🌟
My mind is clearer now At last all too well I can see where we all soon will be If you strip away The myth from the man You will see where we all soon will be Jesus! You started to believe the things they say of you You really do believe this talk of God is true And all the good you've done will soon get swept away You've begun to matter more than the things you say Listen Jesus I don't like what I see All I ask is that you listen to me And remember, I've been your right hand man all along You have set them all on fire They think they've found the new Messiah And they'll hurt you when they find they're wrong I remember when this whole thing began No talk of God then we called you a man And believe me, my admiration for you hasn't died But every word you say today Gets twisted round some other way And they'll hurt you if they think you lied Nazareth your famous son Should have stayed a great unknown Like his father, carving wood He'd have made good Tables, chairs and oaken chests Would have suited Jesus best He'd have caused nobody harm No one alarm Listen Jesus, do you care for your race? Don't you see, we must keep in our place? We are occupied Have you forgotten how put down we are? I am frightened by the crowd For we are getting much too loud And they'll crush us if we go too far If we go too far Listen Jesus to the warning I give Please remember that I want us to live But it's sad to see our chances weakening with every hour All your followers are blind Too much heaven on their mind It was beautiful but now it's sour Yes it all Gone Sour Listen Jesus to the warning I give! Please Remember that i want us to live! So, Come on Come on He won`t Listen to me Come on Listen Come on and Listen to Me Listen Listen to me Come on and Listen to me Listen to me ME!

I just love the build up from minor frustration and annoyance into full on panic and dread, really conveys that this isn't the first time Judas has brought this up and has actually tried to have this conversation with Jesus multiple times, being ignored each time and watching things from his perspective just get worse and worse. Tim did a great showing the build up of emotion and desperation in this song
I love all the performers, Ben Forster making an astonishing vocal performance and Mel C is really moving with her beautiful voice, but Tim Minchin imajes a brilliant acting and vocal performance, incredibly charismatic and insightful. Thanks for putting this video online.

There's people complaining about autotune, then there's me not even noticing it. Tim sounds amazing with or without. One of my favourite Judas performances without a doubt.
@@sparrow8534 Well, that's good. It's a great musical so glad you can enjoy it. I can hardly bear listening to mecha-Judas. I have other recordings I like though so all good.
Tim Minchin is my second favorite Judas, first being Carl Anderson. They both do such a great job, vibrant emotions, realistic portrayals during the musicals, Anderson (to me) just has a larger vocal range that just hits different.

Yes yes I know everyone dislikes the auto tune but can't y'all just appreciate seeing Tim acting this. There is literally a video of Tim singing this free of auto tune y'all could watch instead . I'm here for him 'being' Judas
I saw this live in Cardiff when they toured this production. The best thing about it (which this video doesn't quite get over) was the sheer volume - the sound production was more like a rock gig than a typical musical - loud, bass you feel as well as hear etc. Absolutely brilliant show! Oh, and Tim didn't need autotune - it's the imperfections which make a performance perfect and give it some feeling.
I first saw Jesus Christ Superstar in1973 as a 14 year old - I've seen every production I've been able to, the 70's movie and I have never, EVER seen a better Judas than Tim Minchin - I'm 61 now and I'm bloody impressed 👍😁 and to think he's an Aussie, makes me proud as 😁
YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS VIDEO I’ve been streaming his version on Spotify but I just reeeealy wanted it on here I screamed This is the best
Love this performance! Minchin is a revelation and Forster is definitely holding his own in the pantheon of the men who've played the Messiah. Also I think in this role Forster bears a strong resemblance to actor Aidan Turner.
Totally agree, I saw the behind the scenes vid for jcs, where the makeup/hair people said they were going fir a Johnny Depp vibe with Ben foresters look fir Jesus. But watching the whole performance, I kept thinking, poldark is playing Jesus.
I listened to backstage interview of this production, (the makeup/hair people), said they were going for a Johnny Depp vibe for the look of Jesus, but I think the wig chosen achieved a Ross Poldark (a character played by Aiden Turner) look.
This is the first time where I'm like... Yea, this guy actually did a really dope preformance when matched with the original. Brings a whole new vibe and I feel it.
This is amazing! I had a bootleg CD of "Jesus Christ Superstar" when I was 12 years old. I couldn't understand a word in English back then, I didn't know what I was listening to but I loved it so much that I listened to it for a whole semester. Now I can understand every word in the lyrics, and the tunes are the same. Something very old and something very fresh at the same time. It's like a time capsule I kept for myself for 20 years. I'm 32 now.
Sooo thankful that he has shared all of this during the pandemic! I hope I’m able to help people who are stressed as well with meditation, calm music, and mindfulness. You all matter! Sending healing and peace to everyone ❤️❤️❤️
I am a huge Carl Anderson fan and he will always be my favorite Judas... But, I must say, I do like the way Tim Minchin portrays Judas, it's completely different from Carl but That's what makes it entertaining to watch. Well Done Tim.
Fully agree! And if in addition to that, if the choreography would have provided more physical movement, it seems we could have felt more of that raw emotion. This is a song of desperate pleading, after all!
I thought I had a great deal of respect for Tim Minchin before seeing this, but it turns out I was able to find even more. Much love for this production.
These artists are talented. Beautiful writing and voices. God given gifts. And , because Judas betrayed Jesus Christ, our Saviour, was written. And that is between Jesus and Judas. Jesus went to the cross to save all..
I find this track captivating for many reasons. Mainly when you wake up early in the morning and this song is ringing in your head you know its powerful!!!9
Being a veteran of multiple companies and loving that show I think this was stellar. Connected all the way, highly unique and well placed delivery. Nothing wasted.
It is not fair that one person should have so much talent. Comedian, pianist and now such singing. Tim Minchin, the man who has it all with some to spare!
this song was made for tim to sing. this is one of my all time favorite muicals. bought this dvd couple of yrs ago and wore it out withing 2 weeks lol. thanks for posting this amazing
really regret how little jesus and judas interact in this one - their chemistry is so important to the whole show and in this massive concert version they barely have any time one-on-one, even in the choreo, even when they're supposed to be singing directly to each other. The brief moments that they do interact are great, I just wish the director had pushed them into the same space a bit more :/

I did that in one day, I hope I don't return cuz I need to do things
I've been a fan of Tim for many years.. he was the perfect choice to portray Judas. He's brilliant!
Tim Minchin's eyes = SO INTENSE
The eyeliner/eyeshadow helps
@@napoleonerises It the eyeliner, Makeup is powerful and manipulative.
I'm sure there's a fair amount of sound editing and subtle autotuning in everything I listen to that I'm not even aware of, but this rises to a level that just makes me sad for Tim.
really based off Anderson's performance.
nothing wrong with that, only it reminds me
It's a lot more obvious in The Last Supper, but Tim himself said that he didn't know it would happen and it felt really nasty and rude.
Hello pretty
How are you doing today
Tim was also outraged by the massive amount of auto tuning they did to his voice so you're not alone in your disappointment
Autotune is pretty easy to spot when it's applied heavily, basically there is no "in between" between notes, like the difference there is between a slide and stairs.
This easter was the first time I've ever seen JSC. (No, not even the movie as far as I remember).
And now Ive got a massive crush on Tim
It happens to all of us. it won't pass.
well ur down the rabbit hole mate and their's no getting out lol XD
JSC: Jesus Super Christ
"You've begun to matter more than the things you say". Powerful.. and exactly what's wrong with a certain segment of his fan club these days.. who tend to ignore what he said.
The sheer brilliance of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice still rings true 50 years later.
Hello how are you
You should listen to the spanish versión from Teddy Bautista and Camilo Sesto, it Will blow your mind !
What an actor. What a role for him lol. What a damn voice. God I love when Tim Minchin sings genuinely, and his expressions on here were all 1000% spot on.
Jesus Christ Superstar was the first musical I ever saw and the reason I want to be a actress 💕
same!
You’re never too old to do the seemingly impossible.
I’m a amateur actress!
Its true. This is Jesus Christ Superstar, but told from Judas' point of view; he is the main character.
Judas usually does. Hes the powerhouse of the show!!
Agreed, but I'm pretty sure Burr doesn't have more lines than Hamilton.
Michael Krämer yeah Hamilton has more
i was legit thinking about this last night. in history, burr and judas are hated. however, in hamilton and jcs respectively, while they are still an antagonist of sorts, they’re viewed with a lot more sympathy.
for burr, id say the songs that allow this are wait for it and the world is wide enough. for judas it’s heaven on their mind, blood money and the song where he commits suicide (i’ve forgotten the name lol)
Love this song and Tim minchin
Tim Minchin... What an amazing voice, what a brilliant comedian, all round fabulous guy! ❤😁
This act alone is worth your ticket to the whole show. His singing is spectacular.
Please post Ben Forster’s performance of Gethsemane next🙏🏻🙏🏻 (I know you’ve posted other performances of Gethsemane on here already, but his performance is exquisite & one of the best🙌🏻)
yes pls!! it was quite possibly my fave part of the musical
Yes! Best Gethsemane performance ever!!!!
It’s up!
@Ann Pommer I 'm with you on Steve Balsamo oerformance; it gives me the chills x
@Ann Pommer Steve and Ted for me.
Little lyric analysis be prepared and forewarned…
Judas says first “they think they’ve found a new messiah… and they’ll hurt you when they FIND they’re wrong” but then he says later “and they’ll hurt you if they THINK you’ve lied…” I love this as it shows that he believes Jesus’s message and beliefs but doesn’t think he’s divine, or if he does he doesn’t think it important
To him Jesus speaks the truth but he thinks the truth is being bent because of his ego and his message is being forgotten and replaced with just the man and person… and to Judas it’s gone too far
Love this bit of analysis. What good is the message if it gets overshadowed by a cult of personality? You can really hear Judas's fear of being caught in the middle of a mob when it all comes down on his friend -- of losing his friend after all of it. Tim Minchin was the perfect choice for this role.
@@rachelfox8108
Absolutely true for both
But what about Sam's mum's cataracts? I have been looking for this performance for so long. Minchin is great to watch and listen to.
They're gone! It was a miracle! Didn't you hear? :o
PS: Tim Minchin’s new album in dropping Nov 20, 2020: Apart Together. Several tracks are available now. Check iTunes, Apple or others. Apart Together really rips my heart open.
Tim Minchin is just perfect ❤️
So true! ❤️
That means despite being an understudy, Carl Anderson is iconic.
Carl Anderson was a mega God... Sorry 😐 this doesn't begin to compare, to me at least...
Never expected to hear him sing this song.
SO glad that I did.
Where did you buy it from? I really want to watch the whole show with Tim and Ben
Only just saw this show for the first time, Tim is honestly the best thing about this show. He steals it. Everyone is astounding but Tim Minchin really is a scene stealer 😂
My god his voice gives me 90's, early 2000's rock vibes, takes me back to my 13 year old self. Definitely the rockstar of the piece. The guy playing Simon also blew me away!
Thrilling this show! 🎸🌟
Even without the singing this song has some of the most emotive and dramatic music that Weber has ever made.
My mind is clearer now
At last all too well
I can see where we all soon will be
If you strip away
The myth from the man
You will see where we all soon will be
Jesus!
You started to believe the things they say of you
You really do believe this talk of God is true
And all the good you've done will soon get swept away
You've begun to matter more than the things you say
Listen Jesus I don't like what I see
All I ask is that you listen to me
And remember, I've been your right hand man all along
You have set them all on fire
They think they've found the new Messiah
And they'll hurt you when they find they're wrong
I remember when this whole thing began
No talk of God then we called you a man
And believe me, my admiration for you hasn't died
But every word you say today
Gets twisted round some other way
And they'll hurt you if they think you lied
Nazareth your famous son
Should have stayed a great unknown
Like his father, carving wood
He'd have made good
Tables, chairs and oaken chests
Would have suited Jesus best
He'd have caused nobody harm
No one alarm
Listen Jesus, do you care for your race?
Don't you see, we must keep in our place?
We are occupied
Have you forgotten how put down we are?
I am frightened by the crowd
For we are getting much too loud
And they'll crush us if we go too far
If we go too far
Listen Jesus to the warning I give
Please remember that I want us to live
But it's sad to see our chances weakening with every hour
All your followers are blind
Too much heaven on their mind
It was beautiful but now it's sour
Yes it all Gone Sour
Listen Jesus to the warning I give!
Please Remember that i want us to live!
So, Come on Come on
He won`t Listen to me
Come on Listen
Come on and Listen to Me
Listen Listen to me
Come on and Listen to me
Listen to me ME!
Tim has NO LIMITS! Just when you think he couldn't possibly get any greater...MORE DIVERSE..he flies OUT of the box we tuck him into and soars with the eagles.
......And he takes US along for the flight....
I just learned about this! My favourite comedian playing one of my favourite Broadway characters?! Just brilliant
While Carl Anderson will always be my favorite Judas, Tim's performance is the best rendition I've seen since.
Nobody can beat Carl Anderson. :) Best Judas ever.
Not seen Varla then?
I just love the build up from minor frustration and annoyance into full on panic and dread, really conveys that this isn't the first time Judas has brought this up and has actually tried to have this conversation with Jesus multiple times, being ignored each time and watching things from his perspective just get worse and worse. Tim did a great showing the build up of emotion and desperation in this song
Not only is his singing brilliant, but his acting is too. His facial expressions are great.
Tim’s amazing voice and range are showcased by this performance. Such power and emotion!
I love all the performers, Ben Forster making an astonishing vocal performance and Mel C is really moving with her beautiful voice, but Tim Minchin imajes a brilliant acting and vocal performance, incredibly charismatic and insightful. Thanks for putting this video online.
as a french person i didn't knew Tim Minchin that i discovered through a spectic channel, but WHAT A VOICE ! and i just love the lyrics ! and now i'm just watching/listening to evey single title from Tim !
There's people complaining about autotune, then there's me not even noticing it. Tim sounds amazing with or without. One of my favourite Judas performances without a doubt.
I agree! I didn't even know he was auto tuned until someone told me
@@sparrow8534 Wow, really? He sounds like a malfunctioning robot...
@@grantmalone yes really, i enjoy the show and his voice either way
@@sparrow8534 Well, that's good. It's a great musical so glad you can enjoy it. I can hardly bear listening to mecha-Judas. I have other recordings I like though so all good.
I've heard that he did not like that he was autotuned lol
I ve been a Tim Minchin fan for a while and I think this is his best work.
Dear God. I had no idea Tim Minchin had such a powerful, clear voice. It's so talented!
Tim Minchin is my second favorite Judas, first being Carl Anderson. They both do such a great job, vibrant emotions, realistic portrayals during the musicals, Anderson (to me) just has a larger vocal range that just hits different.
What about brandon dixon?
@@thonypetstv3966 From what I have been able to see he is a great singer, energetic dancer, and has stage presence but a little flashy (but it went along with the scene) but I do not feel like I could rate him fairly yet. I have yet to see the live/tv version, only users TH-cams of it, so it could be distorted. True I have only seen TM's TH-cams but they were recorded at a higher quality.
Drew Sarich is my favorite Judas followed by BVD and Tim
Carl Anderson was a mega God... Sorry 😐 this doesn't begin to compare, to me at least...

I had never seen JCS before it was streamed on here, and it definitely lived up to expectations ❤️. Tim totally stole the show for me!
Yes yes I know everyone dislikes the auto tune but can't y'all just appreciate seeing Tim acting this. There is literally a video of Tim singing this free of auto tune y'all could watch instead . I'm here for him 'being' Judas
Didn’t they use auto tune for this because he had hurt his voice at the time? Thought I remember reading that somewhere
I first saw Jesus Christ Superstar in1973 as a 14 year old - I've seen every production I've been able to, the 70's movie and I have never, EVER seen a better Judas than Tim Minchin - I'm 61 now and I'm bloody impressed 👍😁 and to think he's an Aussie, makes me proud as 😁
I just noticed the symbolism when he said "my mind is clearer now" and when he dies he says it is in darkness.
YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS VIDEO
I’ve been streaming his version on Spotify but I just reeeealy wanted it on here
I screamed
This is the best
He is effortlessly crushing it.
Tim is amazing what a vocal range - loved the staging and performance - took me back many years - great stuff
Jsc is one of my favorite shows, ive seen countless productions, and Minchin is , hands down, the best judas i have ever seen
Beautiful voice! It seems to come so easily to him even the high notes and the runs👏
Great casting. Tim is edgy, relatable, and absolutely nails it.
I saw the 2012 Arena Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on Sunday 21st October and it was amazing and spectacular
He poured everything he had into that. Fantastic.
Oh man, serious goosebumps. I absolutely adore Tim Minchin!!!!
I am a huge Carl Anderson fan and he will always be my favorite Judas...
But, I must say, I do like the way Tim Minchin portrays Judas, it's completely different from Carl but That's what makes it entertaining to watch.
Well Done Tim.
My favorite show, followed by Phantom
*smile* mine is Phantom then this
Mine is this then Phantom too 😁
My favourite Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Jesus Christ Superstar
Same here!!
Why is this auto tuned?! Tim sounds incredible and a pitchy performance of a song like this would add more emotion :( what happened?!
I need a CAST ALBUM RECORDING!! Tim minchin’s version of heaven on their minds is so good!
An amazing performance from Tim Minchin and the cast. I can remember the original in the 70's.
Now that’s what I call a smattering of applause. The performance deserved more than what it got.
That was the most vivid and spot on interpretation of Judas as only Tim could do it. That was fantastic.
Hi Andrea
Tim can do anything..what a freaking talent.
Tim is by far the best Judas
First time I have heard Tim do something serious. I am gobsmacked!! My admiration for him has gone thru the roof! :) He was brilliant!!
Don't just tune down the autotune! Give us the raw voices! It's musical theatre!!!!!
THIS
I heard a recording with the raw vocals once. It was rather low quality but you could tell his unfiltered voice was _amazing_
Thank Glee or whatever crap
@@PineapplesPerhaps I agree. Tim Minchin is a legitimate bad ass!
I was thinking the same thing! There's no difference in the tone of the music. Too perfect and not enough soul.
I find this track captivating for many reasons. Mainly when you wake up early in the morning and this song is ringing in your head you know its powerful!!!9
Hello pretty
How are you doing?
I literally can barely function without this in my head for 50% of the day. It's a problem. I'm always singing this under my breath
I love to see them again. I was a hippie when the show first came. It is such a fantastic music 🎶
That is the most effortless version I have seen
Then you haven't heard Carl Anderson!
Minchin brought me back to the original JCS Cast. Original Judas. Phrasing, voice, performance just WOW. WOW. 👏
I see Carl Anderson smiling with joy!! Great voice!!!!
Casting him as Judas just makes so much sense. Perfect fit for this play.
Interpreting the Passion story with Judas as a tragic hero is so brilliant.
Tim Minchin is my all time favourite Judas - such an incredible voice
Not so great when it's not auto-tuned.
brilliant casting!
this song was made for tim to sing. this is one of my all time favorite muicals. bought this dvd couple of yrs ago and wore it out withing 2 weeks lol. thanks for posting this amazing
Hi Tracy
Absolutely love Tim in JCS, he takes the part to a whole new level !!
really regret how little jesus and judas interact in this one - their chemistry is so important to the whole show and in this massive concert version they barely have any time one-on-one, even in the choreo, even when they're supposed to be singing directly to each other. The brief moments that they do interact are great, I just wish the director had pushed them into the same space a bit more :/
Jesus Christ Superstar... Indeed. Tim is awesome along every dimension of awesome.
Saw this version on arena tour. To be honest you only get the full majesty live. Great show and Tim carries Judas very well in the Arena.
I might be slightly obsessed with this song it's just sooo good 😍
You and me both
