    Can’t wait to get one of these. Well worth the money imo for the stronger block and striker crank

    I must be insane because I think I'm the only guy who actually LIKES the look of the stock Muffler and Airbox/Carb set up. I like how they look...monolithic.
    They look like they are serious and mean business.
    I just wish their performance allowed them to remain on the motors. But if you wanna go fast....you gotta be able to breathe and those things just don't get the job done.

      I don't like to put "labels" on people! LOL
      You are correct, the stock airbox and muffler are very restrictive and it is very hard to make real power with those parts.

    I just put one on a 2” pump. It’ll push fertilizer way faster then the gx200 it replaced. The whole muffler turns red hot.

    So is the 224 a true 224cc or just rounded off to 224cc’s … and really just a 223

    I’m building a 224 now what gasket should I use for maximum compression and have that .300 for expansion? Also I have champion rockers. Should I use those or the stock stamped?

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello,
      I don't know! We have to maintain the .030" clearance between the top of the piston and the bottom of the head. Most 224s are close to zero deck and can use this gasket
      www.ombwarehouse.com/dj-1310p-27-predator-head-gasket-027-70mm/
      You should measure the deck height and get the correct gasket so you don't lose any compression.

    Quick question, So I know that the predator 224 and 212 are both 70mm bores but, does the 224 have a taller deck or are they the same deck height?

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 224 block has a .020" taller deck height than the 212 blocks

    I’m installing a Tillitson carb. Do I keep that plastic spacer or does it go away?

    I just bought 1 of these and I’m looking to get a different carburetor to put on it what do you recommend and size also I see I would also have to buy some sort of intake neck? Or just the carb bolted right onto the block any help would be appreciated

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carb choice is based upon what can you are using and the compression ratio. If using a stock cam am and stock compression, there is no reason not to use a non-EPA stock type carb
      www.ombwarehouse.com/non-epa-carburetor-for-predator-212cc-honda-gx200-6-5hp-hisun.html
      I would need to know more about what you are building to make a more informed decision

      Sorry I’m keeping it stock besides removing governor and I’m putting on a exhaust pipe for now

    Will a Tillotson 212r cam work in this engine ???

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, both engines use the GX200/clone type cams

    I got my first 224 with a CVT and put it on a mega Moto 80 today. It sure does vibrate a lot. Do you think the engine is that much out of balance or is it something with the CVT?

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be the MM frame! Those frames were designed for smaller engines with less power. Check all of the bolts and nuts and make sure the pulleys are aligned. I use shims to get the pulleys in alignment

    bought the predator 224 but it's got no dowel pins in the side cover is that an issue ?

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. That is a problem. The dowel pins properly located the can and crank. We have dowel pins here

    The side gasket is it the Hemi or Non Hemi for the 224?

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage

      The Hemi or Gx200 gasket is what you need

    I thought the predators that has the OHV stamped on the back were considered the HEMI engine

    • @TheGrayGoatGarage
      @TheGrayGoatGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the engines have OHV on the valve cover. The Pred 212 Hemi has a cast aluminum rectangular shaped valve cover. That is the easiest way to identify that engine
