  • I apologize for the bad focus in parts my camera wouldn't focus on the dial unless positioned in the right lighting and positioning. I'm getting it figured out but hope you still enjoy my initial impressions of the watch. It is the Seiko 5 Sports SRPJ85 with a black dial and green NATO strap. It's a 36mm field watch with an automatic movement. Pretty amazing for the price, wouldn't pay the $295 MSRP but it was on sale at Jomashop for $141 which is a steal in my book. Limited stock so they are all out at that price but I'm sure you can find it on sale other places at some point.

I working on a feature film right now because of the overwhelming support I got on this video. Using the same camera too so that all the actors can be just out of focus all the time giving the viewer a migraine.

No offence mate, but keep the camera steady. I could barely see the watch without any blur.

No offense taken, it turned out really crap I’m going to stop filming with that camera it doesn’t grab focus well at all, I’ll just use my GoPro or iPhone.

It’s a really great value for the price. Comfortable watch, good size, the case is a little thick but it’s still very clean on the wrist. Ordered a 2 piece cloth strap from Amazon and it was really crappy so I just returned it. The keeper was cloth and really loose plus it wasn’t the same color as pictured it felt like. Been wearing it on the NATO which has grown on me. Thought I hated NATO’s from wrist shots from directly above seeing the bulk at the top where it loops back but it looks better in person than pictures I guess. Still thinking of snipping it shorter but it’s actually pretty nice with good metal hardware and the color is great in my opinion. Tried some of my leather straps from Tuns Leather in Vietnam but it looks better on cloth, it looks ok but not the best. Still experimenting though so hopefully I find something I like better.

Well you got it at great price yes. 36mm is the size for man of culture, the watch industry is slowly going towards it.
I got Seiko SUR315 also 36mm, sapphire and supposedly looks like grand seiko -great stuff.
You meant the original nato? . Yeah i kinda like metal because its good during summer and more hygienic in general. I think I seen picture of it with jubilee, maybe it would fit. Or maybe I would try some cheap folded bracelets, I have one from casio a168 and its ironically lighter, more flexible and overall better than the fancy heavy solid ones.

@Cortesevasive Yeah for a new release $140 is a lot better than the $295 tag which probably wouldn’t be worth it. I’m a big fan of 36mm especially for a field watch. I bought the 39mm Explorer and although I liked it I sold it as soon as I got the new 36mm and have no interest in the newest 40mm. I’m trying to figure out a sapphire crystal to swap into this as it’s just mineral glass and already has scuffs. I personally love a metal bracelet especially the Oyster bracelet which just feels so natural on the wrist. Yeah I’ve kept the original NATO on it but I’m looking for something better. It’s 19mm so not the most common size so makes it slightly harder to shop for.

      19mm ? i thought it was 18mm
Yeah you mean the rolex explorer? , isnt that like super expensive and stuff. I am kinda scared to think about their accuracy and servicing costs. If I had buckets of money I would go for high tier grand seiko or the citizen,.

@Cortesevasive My confusion the SRPJ85 is 18mm not 19, but yeah your correct the Explorer is 19mm tapering to 14mm at the clasp. I luckily bought the Explorer from the AD right when it was released so it was $6,450 which was before the price hike to $7,250 and grey it would have been way more. Sold my 39mm Explorer for a $1,100 profit after only 8 months of ownership so that was helpful putting a dent in the price as well. I set it 85 days ago and it’s at -0.3 seconds over that whole time so pretty damn accurate and servicing it is expensive but they actually extended the recommended service interval to every 10 years and it’s about $800 to $1,500 so $80-150 a year is how I think of it which really doesn’t seem that crazy in the scheme of things. Plus if there’s any issues in the first 5 years it’s covered under warranty. It was a watch I fell in love with and I had the money so figured why not? Something I can pass down to the kids when I have ‘em.

    Whats ur wrist size?

    • @Hodapp
      @Hodapp  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

It’s ~6.5 inches. I find 36mm up to 40mm fits well but any bigger and it doesn’t look right.

You never got it in focus

I know I had to switch cameras after this video since it can’t hold focus at all. Sorry about that but going forward it shouldn’t be an issue.

Just shoot on your phone, bro. The watch is a blur.

I actually have switched to my phone and a GoPro very disappointed with the old point and shoot that was sitting in a drawer gathering dust. I think it probably wasn’t designed to shoot stuff so close to the camera at least not in video mode.

Yeah I have stopped using it and just use my phone now. I figured a camera would be better but it can’t hold a focus to save its life.
