Roger Penske and his friend Mark Donahue had the magic touch, won lots of races together. They were running a car in the GP season in 1975 and Mark was killed . Penske continues in motor racing to this day.
Without Ford there wouldn't have been a DJR at all. Motor racing is a business you can't expect a sponsor to throw money at something and get no return from it.
@@sugarnads Yes, and he couldn't get any backing from Holden so when Ford offered him the shot he took it. Also when he hit the rock Edsel Ford promised to match the public contributions. Without Ford, there would be no DJR.
Almost had the opportunity to work for penske in australia in the bowen basin building engines on trucks mainly gutted i didnt get that job i wouldve done my best to stay there for the rest of my career
If you watch closely enough you will notice Roger still trying to check his mirrors - old habits die hard ! It must have been so foreign to him to sit on that side of the car but have no steering wheel in front of him 😀

Writing this in late '22, it's a little odd to see someone driving a contemporary (at the time) Australian made performance car. Not least because it's a _manual_ ..! Times - and the car manufacturing industry in Straya - have changed. 🙄 P.S. Don't get me wrong - GM-H and Ford Australia, more or less *drove themselves* onto oblivion. Each had a product range that was (mostly) withering with redundancy for nearly a decade, prior to dropping dead entirely around 2016.

Small roll hoop, short wind screen, open face helmet, handkerchief tied around his face, eating bugs, and spitting out pine needles, around places like Lime Rock Park. So many trees and lack of walls, it looked like a rally stage you ran 80 to 100 times in a row.
