    So glad you said about not charging to 100% on a rapid. The number of vans I find slow charging on a rapid to 100% in case there are no more chargers before they get to London!

    The bigger wheels are responsible for about a 20 mile drop in range compared to standard size wheels. Plus in summer you’ll get an extra 20-30 miles

    Love that belly :-) I‘m glad to see your feeling better and smiling. Bravo on the jump, lovely family pet! We bought the Kepler 6 and it has been great for trips to IKEA. (Your video for the Kepler was one of the best). We have not been happy with the quality of many things on the Kepler, one is the VW software …. we hook up the phone and use Google maps as well. We are also Electric in our daily use auto (full E Volvo and we plug at home, PV on the roof) The ID interior looks great and I like the lighting accessories. Driving the VW Kepler is comfortable but it doesn‘t have the more luxurious elegant feeling or look that the ID has. Our van is definitely a working van, plastic and strictly functional. We switched out the sound system because it was so bad (and found that VW had used very cheap speakers and sound insulation was bad or non existent). I wonder what is in the ID? How is the sound system? Is it quiet (no rattles)? We are definitely happy driving Electric for our everyday needs and I think a family E van is a great idea!

    @22:48 “next time you don’t have to do any of that planning, you just know that next time coming to the NEC you charge here” See this is the major issue I have with EVs and their infrastructure currently. In an ICE vehicle I don’t have to think like that at all, I just get fuel when it’s convenient and I know If I get stuck in traffic, in a queue at an accident or I come to the site I had planned to fuel up at and it’s unavailable for some reason I’m not then panicking about running out of battery or being caught in a red line situation. It’s just too stressful to even contemplate tbh so until that aspect of range anxiety is sorted I just couldn’t switch to a full EV. The Buzz is cute though and those wee Easter eggs are adorable.

      yeah, and if I still had my steam engine I could get to John O'Groats on a few hectares of forest, or truck loads of coal, but I haven't still got it, because steam engines, though an interesting part of industrial history, are extinct as a means of transport, just like the diesel 'Transporter' nearly is.

    Nice review. Did I see that the temperature set to 22? You should be able to drive in comfort but in a big space like that it will absolutely hammer the range. In my little ID.3 the difference in range between 19 and 22 would be 10-20% in cold weather. I use Instavolt on my travels as they’re reliable but they’re very pricy

    The 7 seater long version will be the one to get. More flexible, hopefully the Multivan's rear seat configuration and seat rails will be in it, plus over 100kw battery. Cheers from Australia.

    • @martinottosson6583
      @martinottosson6583 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I don´t need the extra length, but I think that it´s a real downside that VW wasn´t able to get the floor flat and use a Multivan seat system even in the five seater option. I can understand that the battery takes up space and that makes it hard to get a totally flat floor, but the 60/40 non removable seat is just plain out stupid in a van in this price range. Three separate removable seats would have been so much better and it would have made the car so much more usable, especially for families with one or two kids or just when you need to use all the space in the cabin. Just take the seats you need and get more space of the rest of the cabin.

    Great video guys… one question re the electric vehicle..how much does the air con/heating deplete the battery especially in the colder weather. The I D Buzz is a cracking looking van though.

    • @LynxStarAuto
      @LynxStarAuto ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Greatly. Especially the heater. See heaters on ICE cars simply run the hot engine coolant into a heater core inside the dash. Gasoline and diesel engines produce heat fairly quickly. It takes maybe 2-3 minutes for the vehicle to produce a notable heat signature out of the vents. Also most ICE cars operate at 80-90°C.
      On EV's while some still use the coolant and heater core method, it takes much longer for the temperature to rise as EV's run about 50% cooler than an ICE. For that reason they also incorporate what's called a PTC heater.
      The PTC heater core is a high resistance electrical heater that runs off the HV battery. It get hot very, very, quickly and provides heat for not just the cabin, but the battery pack as well. This results in additional consumption in the winter.

    Bit of a crazy idea, has anyone thought of putting comfy seats and a kitchen in the back? It may never work because judging from the comments, everyone has deadlines to meet and no time to stop, but it may provide some 'leisure' time on longer journeys while stopping for a charge.

    Nice video but this has totally put me off buying an electric car/van £46 in charging and that was after a full charge at home - wow that's expensive compared to petrol. Also the time wasted waiting for charges. Id be interested to work out if you added that time onto a journey in a petrol car but drove slower (more efficient) which car would be 'cleaner' and cheaper to run.

The press car specs up at £70k+ and most of the things that are optional you would want. Add in 2 tone paint, matching interior and 12 inch screen and you get to £65k. Add in tow bar, charging cables, interior light packages and it gets to over £70k. Put in a 100 kwh batter pack, and charge me £50k with some of these options included and I will buy one.

    What a palaver with charging, it needs to be a 400 mile range before I’d consider it.

      How often do you need to go 400 miles without stopping? Genuinely. I owned a Tesla Model S for eight years. I’d often travel from Portsmouth to Heathrow or Bath. That car had 230ish range and I never had a problem. Hardly ever needed to use charging in the wild.

    I still say a hydrogen cell motor could be built that sucked in air, separated the hydrogen out and delivered it to the engiine on a continuous basis for combustion. We don't need to stop and refill our tanks to breathe. It must have something to do with metabolism. Let's stop mucking about and make our cars self charging.

    As a VW fanatic…brilliant retro design that I wanted for ages…until poor internal design for the rear floor, poor range and how much???
    Bugger as we say in NZ.

    Can’t Wait to see Harvey press his 1st “Dislike” button on a TH-cam Video. Great to see Bentley back in a Video as well.
