      my anycubic mega pro is the same way. If i slice a file in Cura and leave it with the default name cura saves as, the printer will not read that file at all so i always rename the files in the SD card to something more simple with no spaces and then it will recognize, very annoying but got use to it

    Ordered the M5 based off your initial video. It'll be my first 3D printer having been interested for years but worried the troubleshooting and modding would be more effort than the actual print process. Based on this video I'm super happy with my decision and hope Anker iterates on the firmware to fix these minor issues. Thanks Jessy!

    I bought into the multi color addition, and it comes with a new extruder that you replace the current one with for it to work correctly. I agree with you totally on the "open the box and it's ready to go" comment haha, I'm so sick of spending days to weeks modding, waiting on better parts, testing... • @strictnonconformist7369

    So, the AnkerMake M5 you have is noisier than you’d like, and it has some software/firmware issues that appear to be annoying-but-non-fatal bugs that don’t change the fact that for the most part, it’s a boringly reliable and predictable machine that prints very nicely at at least a bit faster than most machines.
    I’ve backed both, and both have their risks and pluses. I’ve also signed on for the V6, and hope that works well, as well as the package with the AMS for the Bambu. I create game pieces with 8 colors in the design language, so I’m one of those oddball use-cases. The AnkerMake doesn’t appear to be viable for the higher-end/temperature filaments, which I also have a reason to use, so perhaps they’ll in many ways be a complementary pair.

    • @invictuslem
      @invictuslem ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same, fingers crossed on the v6, but then again I figure if it doesn’t work as advertised it’s still effectively a 6 spool drying chamber… which honestly for the cost would be reasonable just for that function alone.

      3. Loose bed belts from the factory, printer freezing mid-print with the previous software, but not freezing on the new software so far, AI annoying (multiple false positives and one time the AI didnt notice a big print slipping of the bed), no part#'s listed on Ankers site or come with the printer. @@0o0o00o00000 best way to set and forget is to turn off AI andmake sure you check all the belts and do a few observed prints out of the box initially. After that It's speed and accuracy is pretty good and the printer can be left alone so long as the first few layers have gone down correctly.

    • @0o0o00o00000
      @0o0o00o00000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nasrsayed9362 that’s true. Unfortunately, it’s just not as polished as it would need to be for $800. Absolutely no offense to you but I should be able to completely forget about a printer that is that size, that expensive, and that polished looking especially since taking it apart to fix something would be a hassle. I’d rather just get an Ender 3 for $100 and calibrate it once. It would be equal to that printer and I’d be able to fix anything that went wrong relatively easy.
      It’s unfortunate because I’m in love with the aesthetics.

    Glad to see this video! It is far too common for creators to just be positive about something. I am also glad to see that most of this is all firmware based. Maybe that fan would require some hardware stuff, but not too much. At those kind of speeds, the noise is unavoidable I dont think.
    The Slicer ABSOLUTELY needs to be available to reviewers before printers ship.. Cloud software always worries me because of the issues with data security, open ports, etc.

  • @jwstolk
    @jwstolk ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice review! I think initial production is supposed to start about now, but things like file selection could definitely be improved still, if not already done. Did you receive any software updates during the time you tested this printer? The "grinding" during the home-process is probably because it uses hard-stops, possibly with motor feedback, instead of end-switches. I think this is good because it should be more reliable than end switches.

    This is exactly why I did not preorder this printer, and I will not do so. Noone mentioned anything about noise levels from what I found, because I was only able to find sponsored "review" and "hands-on" videos. I got a Prusa Mini+ instead, and its quiet. Not whisper quiet, travel moves where the bed moves quickly do make a noise, but it's nothing compared to the constant sound of the M5 you showed us.
    For me, this is more important than fast printing. Cause longer prints will still run over night, in my bedroom, whilst I'm trying to sleep.
    Note: I am using an enclosure with a self-built filter inside [using a hepa+activated carbon combo from an existing printer ecosystem], as well as an air filter meant for rooms with both a hepa and activated carbon filter aswell. Only printing PETG and PLA.
    Of course not optimal, but honestly, anyone that smokes, drinks regularly, lives next to a busy street or does anything related to crafts without perfect precautions will most likely be off the same as I am, if not worse [health-concern wise].

      I mean I doubt it as the whole thing looks pretty closed off compared to the Ender series. Also I don't see it selling as much just because of the price... not sure why anyone would buy this over a Prusa and given the price point...
      Anker are an okay make but they are a "let's try everything" company and they are basically willing to give up on something pretty quickly if they don't see profit.
      I mean the problem with UJ is that he isn't an FDM guy and so he does the same as Linus Tech Tips: and shows he has a limited knowledge or experience.
      And he goes on about modding and then doesn't mention the fact the Prusa is way better. instead he goes after a printer that cost a quarter of the Anker. I mean Jesus. compare it to the S1 Pro and simply it is the same for like $200 cheaper...
      sorry but it's still just a suped up Ender 3 and for the price I would rather do the work myself and learn how the printer works.
      but hey some people like PCs because of the freedom and the fact you feel like you have control and input. And you are more self reliant and don't need a genius bar... and others are like uncle Jessie. they are about the destination not the journey. and that is fine but he says about upgrading with such... a sneering tone... it made me cringe and think "what a gammon" ... like me saying "I can see why people without much intelligence and that are really poor when it comes to mechanical engineering and a bit dumb would not want to the scary prospect of upgrading" I mean he really can't claim time as this is his f***ing job. if he doesn't have time how come others that work full time jobs and do it as a hobby do?
      makes me laugh how frattboy he looks but is such a metrotard

    if they cannot (or even if they can) reduce the noise levels for the production unit, maybe we can convince them to add a “quiet hours” feature where it pauses printing for a set time (ie. My first 3D printer was a Prusa Mini (DIY kit). But that one was a nightmare in terms of reliability. Probably while building the printer together I had some screws too loose and others too tight, resulting especially in under extrusion issues and a lot of failed or not so nice prints. That's what drove me to SLA printers and the Anycubic Photon Mono X. Another possibility from my 3D "uncle." Hardware stuff I'm willing to overlook because I'm confident in fixing them. But firmware/software issues....naw. Less willing to deal with that. I do hope AnkerMake addresses them.

    That grinding, couldn't it be that they use the stepper stall surge as finding home? There's a term for it, can't recall but it's possible in newer drivers to do this.

    Hopefully they do some massive upgrades on the design. They are gonna fall flat on their face if Bambu labs Carbon x1 is successfully shipped. I am kicking myself for backing this. When the money was taken the same day bambu announced I cried a bit. Especially after the Ankermake m5 review agreements were leaked. It showed they weren't reviews but forced talking points. That scares me.

    Though I might wait for a generation to pass before I do, let them iron out the gremlins and upgrade what needs upgrading.

    asking for some sort of preview of the print object based on a Gcode file shows that you know absolutely nothing about what Gcode is and what it does. name your files accordingly to know what it will print.

      @@dwclifton11 I've had a ton of fun with it. Many times I wished I had waited a tiny bit and got the Bambu labs models though. The software has had a ton of updates since I got it though. There's really strange many bad things I can say other than it's currently out of commission. I last tried to print a full scale helmet and it seems to have been doing well until the last few layers. I think there was a clog in the nozzle. It failed to finish the mask and hasn't printed the last few things I've tried. I took it apart to replace the nozzle and left it in pieces because I was struggling to reattach the belt tight enough and had to grab some extra tools then never got back to it. I don't regret buying it at all though. Just would prefer Bambu labs, I think.
