I started Death guard with the christmas box set and I was blown away by the quality of the new models, they're in a league of their own and are a blast to paint
Love the lore of the Death Guard, always loved the 14th legions, both Roman and Warhammer. Always fascinated by fiction parasites and diseases, love the Astartes. Literally the perfect faction. Oh, and they’re stubborn as hell, so am I.
A simple box of Plague Marines is such a good start for new players. The PM box gets you some models to get a feel for the army for painting and also makes a killteam as you only need 6 models to field it AND the box has every loadout you can technically field in KT.
come work in a kindergarten, they carry all kids of diseases :D well jokes aside, there have been an unusual amount of sickness the last half year, so yea you can easily get sick there, home sick atm because of my work there :D
If you are considering to build your first army, DO NOT METACHASE, the army that is overpowered today will be weak tomorrow, by the time you are done painting the landscape will have shifted again. Pick something you think is cool based on aesthetics, lore and playstyle, not win rate. You'll be working on those models a looong while, so you better pick something you intrinsically like. Also, you'll lose most of your initial matches, as you don't know how to play yet, and 40k is a complicated game, don't be discouraged.
I am not planning to buy FOR NOW, maybe when i finish some stuff after 2 years, about meta - thanks for the advice My plans for now are Death guard cuz... Chaos, kinda heretical, i know but demons stuff is kinda cool. +one youtuber showed a good part in Chaos, Honour in battle, Change in fate and making your own path, Finality and the fact that in the face of death we are all the same, Emotions, pleasure and enjoyment of common things and some... lewd stuff XDD About Imperium i think i may take Custodes, they look cool, and the fact that they are "Elite" but small army, Grey knights look cool too... from Xenos - Necrons with reanimation, as a big middle finger to your enemy, but as a funny one A big MAYBE for orcs cuz... of their randomised shooting, but not sure... but chaos 100%
@@Vurbax personally what I did was to get Death Guard, then I got chaos knights to ally with them and later will be expanded to an army, and nurgle demons to do the same. That way, down the road I'll have DG, DG+CK, DG+Nurgle, CK and Nurgle for 5 playstyles with 3 sets of models (this may change depending on how 10th edition handles allies, but it's been very fun).
People are saying to wait till their stronger as if most of use are competitive like that. Sure its fun to win, but I'd rather have an army that I like the design/concept of instead of one that will win 10% more often.
Moreover, _obviously_ they might get stronger in the future. That doesn't mean they aren't worth getting in the meantime. The meta will always shift up and down. So it doesn't make a lot of difference if you're starting when they're high or low. Plus, for those starting an army from scratch, it's likely to take them a while before their army is up to 2000 pts. Simply due to time needed for delivery, assembly, painting, and basing all those models. The edition is likely to change in the time it'll take to complete such a Death Guard force, unless you're really hammering the speed painting techniques.
Love my little blightlords. They’re always my reserves and almost always devastate my opponent. My first DG was the biologus putrifier and he drew me right into the faction after I finished painting him. Definitely one of the best factions, for looks, strategy, and just to paint and collect. Edit: the codex flavor text states that almost every color option is lore friendly to the DG. My armor and daemon engines have purple plating.
I grabbed the Christmas box to start myself in 40k! I've only played one 1000 point game so far but I've had a fun time building and painting everything. I've got a Chaos Knight to bump myself up to 2000 between the combat patrol and the batleforce so I'm hoping to get into some 2000 points games soon to learn the game more.
I would highly recommend getting a tallyman if you don't have one already. Legitimately one of the best points investments if you give it the toll keeper relic, and it has helped me immensely.

Suggesting 8th Ed. starter sets, here, in the twilight of 9th, is pretty wild. And even if you *do* manage to salvage a box from the darkest, dustiest corner of a suburban toy store in Eastern Europe, 75% of those plague marines will be monopose with bolters.

Started DG with the christmasbox + buying minis on ebay from the hachette magazine as well as from collecting boxes. Got 2500pz for round about 370€. Really easy to get them going.
Auspex after watching your vids for months and seeing comments about you being psychic I never believed it. But I had been wanting to build death guard for months, got my first models yesterday and am now a firm believer in your powers!!
There was a point in my life when I wanted a DG army with Mortarion, 3 units of deathshroud termies, 3 big blobs of poxwalkers and three bloat drones, and nothing more. I would use zombies as poxwalkers and just have a blast with a silly army. Damn, thinking about it again, makes me want to buy all of it xD
They also got a suprising variety of standard plague marines. 7 from Dark Imperium, 3 from the EtB kit, 3 from Reinforcements, 6 from Space Marine Heroes. AND the standard Multipart kit. (And the Sassy Nurgling (including a champion)).
yea with them loosing AoC they are rock bottom. the point drops is not enough, and if we compare the point drops to the ones the SM got it is ridiculous low point drops :(

Fantastic videos! Definitely Subscribing. I've been collecting recently for the first time in 20 years. Painted the infernus marine starter kit, then grabbed myself an Ork Warboss in Mega Armor that I'm currently painting. Also have a Mephitic Blight Hauler, a set of 10 Pox Walkers, and an Age of Sigmar Troggoth just because he looks cool and I wanted to paint him. But my main armies are going to be Ork and Death Guard. The Blight Hauler and its lore was definitely what got me into Death Guard, and I have Pain Boy, Mozrog Skragbad, and a set of Squighog Boyz coming by next Saturday to start my Ork Army properly.
I LOVE my DG army, I'm only one FBD away from having at least two or three of all DG vehicles, and completed my collection of characters last month with the Plague Surgeon and Morty. The last two Xmas boxes helped!
grabbed the battlebox and found a Dark Imperium box cheap before christmas, so a good start to a DG army. :D so will be putting them together after i'm done upgrading my Other armies :) thinking about getting the combat patrol also when i have put the other models together :)
Lord felthius and the tainted cohort actually has 2 HQs in it felthius is a lord of contagion and oneof the terminators has the same loadout as the lord of virulenz (plaque spewer + energy fist) so it is a must have in my opinion to easily get more HQ.

There's an absolute TON of these models out there on the used market. I got some amazing deals in 2021 and I've seen them recently as well. They aren't as in fashion as they were in the past; and it's a shame because DG is the most fun I've ever had painting 40k models. Pick some up and get the Lords of Silence and The Buried Dagger on audible and throw yourself in. You won't regret it!
Ended up collecting some DG before even finishing my knights because I just really like the look of the deathshroud terminators, and now I guess I'm slowly building an army of them. I do wish some of the models weren't 'ebay only' tier though, why is that goofy lord felthius the only lord of contagion they sell and not the badass dark imperium one.

After buying, building and then painting just shy of 1000 points of Necrons (I paint really slow, wish I had more free time) I saw the Council of the Death Lord battleforce box get announced just shy of the holidays. I couldn't pass it up as Mortarion's model is one of my favorites! Decided to go ahead and snag one of those in December as well as a Combat Patrol box. All of that puts me around 1400 points of Death Guard and if I wanted a full 2k point army are there any standout units/vehicles that I should round out my force with? I know rules fluctuate and with the new Arks of Omen things seem to be up in the air as to what I should run. Ultimately I've decided power is coming second to what looks cool on the tabletop but I'm unsure whether I should go all in with infantry or pickup some vehicles (daemon engines, dedicated transports, etc.)
Real suggestion besides the staple picks malignifyer (fortification) 65pts, 2x bloatdrones and some magnets, and give possessed a look instead of Death shroud
My 2 army's sence 5th have been ultramarines and death guard. I been wanting to run them agen but I have all old models so there all way to small. Any way I could convert them to the bigger base with out wreaking the model ????
Having just started playing, take this opinion with a grain of salt. Starting in November, I felt like DGs power level was alright, games felt like a 50/50, which is a good place to be design wise as you feel like you always have a chance. However, after losing AoC, the army feels like it struggles HARD. My units are just getting scooped up by every SM player and matchups that felt okay before feel like they are unwinnable. It's hard to be the "attrition" army when every unit just scoops all the models in 1 turn. The only units that feel tanky anymore are the terminators. I had a unit of 10 Sanguinary guard deal 12 damage to Mortarion in 1 phase with the free inferno pistols. If you can't be tanky with DG, you can't win because their offensive output isn't even comparable to other armies. It feels like your opponent has to play bad now in order to have a chance at winning. I regret buying DG, hard.
Every army will be bottom tier at some point. Buying, building and painting an army takes time. Buy what you like and what you think looks cool, cause if you meta chase you will always be bottom tier.
@@FREEkdaman Not meta chasing at all or I wouldn't have bought DG to begin with. But a reasonable win chance with units I enjoy, that's the goal. Forced to take the best units just to have a ~40% win rate feels like I wasted my money. If they would've just kept AoC on DG we'd still be around a 50%. Why make a huge nerf to an army that is still below average? I understand keeping the meta fresh, but arguably this feels like emotional manipulation to get someone to spend more by buying into another army just so you can keep playing. Not even win tournaments... Just playing.
They are fun to glue and paint, but are definitely not worth playing. It just feels not like playing against opponent/his army, but againts the game itself. Losing armor of contempt, they die from just staring at them, they prefer hand-to-hand combat, but have absolutely no support outside rhinos to actually get there. There was a little support taking Abaddon, but now they just cannot field him. Terminators despite free gear, are still severely overcosted, there is no reason to take them instead of plague marines and plague marines just die if opponent decides to point his guns at them. Their plague weapon rule also means little with armies that take re -rolls away. Yesterday, I played against votann, managed to charge them with something like 2 full squads of plague marines... and I didn't kill anything with around 40 attacks each unit with weapons like axes, flails, etc. If you want durable infantry that actually does anything, play Dark Angels instead.
I do and it’s lovely just stay 3 away from area terrain and don’t forget if the board is set up and you can’t place you can remove something in your DZ pull a crate or something and your golden
The only downside of Deathguard is how much detail they have. You'll spend significantly more time painting all that trim and mutations compared to most other armies imo

I run daemon prince , lord of virulence for hq 20 blightlords 6 deathshrouds 3 hellbrutes (2 with hammer and plasma and the other with power fists) 2 dreadclaws for hellbrutes and a knight despoiler with thermal cannon and battle cannon My freinds hate me lol
I legit don’t understand why DG always seem to get absolutely shafted almost every time changes are made to the game, it’s very rare they actually get some meaningful buffs (obviously the free war-gear and PM spam is good as I love PM). I remember they were “OP” when their codex came out but now they’re probably the worst army in the game competitively speaking.
Any new players, don’t listen to this guy, start the army you think is cool None of us, and I do mean NONE of us like Metachasers, what’s weak today will be strong tomorrow and what’s strong today will be weak tomorrow

At the moment, I'd recommend against starting DG if you're actually looking to play. Visually, they're my favorite army, but you will be playing from a disadvantage in most cases. If you're just looking to collect them, go ahead, but otherwise, you're better off picking something else unless things drastically change.

The Blightlord Terminators also have free wargear so you should lode them to the gills with whatever you can instead of "keeping them cheap".

Is there a issue with them being monopose?
Aesthetically, no, but with the weapon being fixed, you can't tap into the now free, superior wargear

So happy I picked up 3 Lord of Contagions and 4 Plaguecasters when Dark Imperium was dirt cheep.

Tbh, most of the boxes are great. I got what felt like a flexible start just from a Council box, a Patrol box, and the Plaguefester band

However, after losing AoC, the army feels like it struggles HARD. My units are just getting scooped up by every SM player and matchups that felt okay before feel like they are unwinnable. It's hard to be the "attrition" army when every unit just scoops all the models in 1 turn. The only units that feel tanky anymore are the terminators. I had a unit of 10 Sanguinary guard deal 12 damage to Mortarion in 1 phase with the free inferno pistols. If you can't be tanky with DG, you can't win because their offensive output isn't even comparable to other armies. It feels like your opponent has to play bad now in order to have a chance at winning. I regret buying DG, hard.
Every army will be bottom tier at some point. Buying, building and painting an army takes time. Buy what you like and what you think looks cool, cause if you meta chase you will always be bottom tier.
@@FREEkdaman Not meta chasing at all or I wouldn't have bought DG to begin with. But a reasonable win chance with units I enjoy, that's the goal. Forced to take the best units just to have a ~40% win rate feels like I wasted my money. If they would've just kept AoC on DG we'd still be around a 50%. Why make a huge nerf to an army that is still below average? I understand keeping the meta fresh, but arguably this feels like emotional manipulation to get someone to spend more by buying into another army just so you can keep playing. Not even win tournaments... Just playing.
Is it possible in 10th to play a deathguard fellblade ? Are there any datasheets for 10th ? Or generall for FW models ?

They are fun to glue and paint, but are definitely not worth playing. It just feels not like playing against opponent/his army, but againts the game itself. Losing armor of contempt, they die from just staring at them, they prefer hand-to-hand combat, but have absolutely no support outside rhinos to actually get there. There was a little support taking Abaddon, but now they just cannot field him. Terminators despite free gear, are still severely overcosted, there is no reason to take them instead of plague marines and plague marines just die if opponent decides to point his guns at them. Their plague weapon rule also means little with armies that take re -rolls away. Yesterday, I played against votann, managed to charge them with something like 2 full squads of plague marines... and I didn't kill anything with around 40 attacks each unit with weapons like axes, flails, etc. If you want durable infantry that actually does anything, play Dark Angels instead.
Coolest army. Awesome design. Great lore. You will lose every game.

The only downside of Deathguard is how much detail they have. You'll spend significantly more time painting all that trim and mutations compared to most other armies imo
Find it the opposite, it's really easy to just leave them untidy and just pass over details with filthy looking paints.

I legit don’t understand why DG always seem to get absolutely shafted almost every time changes are made to the game, it’s very rare they actually get some meaningful buffs (obviously the free war-gear and PM spam is good as I love PM).
I remember they were “OP” when their codex came out but now they’re probably the worst army in the game competitively speaking.

At the moment, I'd recommend against starting DG if you're actually looking to play. Visually, they're my favorite army, but you will be playing from a disadvantage in most cases. If you're just looking to collect them, go ahead, but otherwise, you're better off picking something else unless things drastically change.
