Your baby chickens are so cute! Thanks for the reminder for the warm weather brassica seedlings! I need to get into that! Im looking forward to Autumn gardening! So much easier! ☺️
Hi Anthony, I think your right with the fruit fly. I had an early attack back in late Sept / Oct but since I've come back from Europe there has been none. Let's hope they're gone for the year. Great video as usual. Cheers mate. 😃😃
Hi Anthony. I made the same mistake, different plants. It's the first time I grew Jade Beans and they were too close to my Capsicums. There is always next year! BTW, great capsicums. I just harvested my first black russian tomato. Such a large and great flavour tomato. Been looking forward to this for a long time. YUM!
Another enjoyable and informative video. I put netting over my tomatoes a week ago in anticipation for Fruit fly none here on the far south coast yet, but I pulled the netting back to do some maintenance the yesterday and found green caterpillars on a couple of plants.
Anthony your chicks are so beautiful and mum looks so proud, it's nice to see them running around learning about nature. Your capsicum plants are looking really nice, that's a good size for yellow's I generally find they are a bit smaller than the red's. Jacqui
Thanks Jacqui, yeah i figured that the yellow caps dont get as big. Really excited about having chicks around again. Just need to make sure they dont ruin the patch! 🙂
@sydneybackyardveggies9612 yep definitely. I usually on the hot days do a night or late Arvo, and a mid morning water. I also found putting a row of corn in earlier helps with keeping the reflection of the fence off and a bit of shade . Cheers
@ yes I am Greenacre , that’s why your channel is so helpful because we have the same weather conditions. I’m just learning my mistake is I planted the cherry tomatoes too close and I didn’t prune them enough the upside is they are full of tomatoes I’ve picked 50-60 and there’s is at least another 80 on them. I can’t net them but I’ve bought small net bags which are so good and helpful. Have a great Christmas break and happy new year keep up your content
Thanks Jim. I was washing some of my cherry tomatoes today and found my first fruit fly. All good though one fruit damaged out of the kilos harvested 👍
Qfly has shown up over here in Perth again mate. For the ninth time now I think. Luckily I'm not in the affected zones. I feel for the people that have to rip up all their plants according to the authorities. Your veggie garden is looking lush as mate, well done👍
Hey anthony great video once again mate. I never got around to sending a photo of my struggling cucumbers on instagram but theyve ended up pulling through. Now im at war with caterpillars 😂
Great vid Anthony. I am trying bush cucumbers this year and growing them in front of indeterminate tomatoes. My thinking is they won't shade out the tomatoes. I am also trying a pumpkin in a different bed in front of tomatoes, it will shade the soil and not shade the tomatoes. Trying to mix it up in my beds. See what works. Maximize the space.
Hey mate sounds like a plan. My advice would be to put the taller veggies on the southern side of the bed and the shorter veggies on the northern side. As the days start getting shorter you will start getting a lot more shadowing happening
Thanks for the video Anthony - I'm in hospital unexpectedly & you've cheered me right up! Fancy a quick trip down to Melbourne to look after my place for me? 😁😎😁
I am planning on trying to overwinter my jalapeños. We don’t get frost here in Sydney not harsh ones anyway so I’m going to try to over winter my chillies and see if they work out
Thanks for your advice Anthony I’ve taken it all on. Just one question, do you remove the suckers from tomatoes like different gardeners do, I haven’t seen you do it. I don’t know what to do remove them or don’t remove them, very confusing. I’m in Melbourne.
No, you shouldn't - that's an old concept these days. You should have things growing in your soil all the time - the plants through their roots support the microbes in the soil. Apply lots of compost, keep the moisture level reasonable and go, go, go..
I personally don’t. Generally I like to plant as soon as the last crop is finished though I always add more manures and amendments before planting. At most I have rested a section of bed say 2-3 weeks more because I don’t have time to plant or I am waiting for seedlings to be ready. I drive my garden to maximise output so I am constantly planting

It definitely is! My garden is getting swarmed with spider mites and it’s just to hot to be in the garden these days! February can’t come soon enough!
My capsicums are always small. I need to try another variety. Thanks for the advice.
Awww!! Cute little chickies!! :-)!!

Thanks mate. It’s Christmas Eve and still no fruit flies. Though the spider mites have smashed my tomatoes but got most of the crop off them
Love your content, what a beautiful life you have ❤😊

Great vid. capsicums look great. You have given me a few ideas on what to plant. thx.

Thanks Dave. Yeah the plants are getting more conjested now and growing into each other. Amateur mistake I make every year 😀

Yeah finally invested in some netting for the capsicums and the jalapeños but happy that the tomatoes haven’t seen any damage yet

@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 LOL, I'll keep my fingers crossed the chicks behave but they grow so quickly.
Great video once again. Tell me would these timings be relevant to Victoria ( Melbourne) as well?
Cheers
I'm in Melbourne & started following Anthony's timings at the end of last summer, but a couple of weeks behind. I had my best broccoli Harvests ever 😳
Yeah mick you are prob a few weeks behind with the summer veg than what I would plant but for the cooler season veggies I would follow my plantings

Thanks Anthony
Merry Christmas 🎄
Love your vids as always, very informative. Im on the Murray River, 46 degrees today, most plants kicking thru but some struggled
Yeah that’s way too hot. I hope you can get some shade on them during the day. I would water them a couple times a day to help them through the hear

thanks simon 👍
Great vid Anthony - your garden looks amazing 🎉🎉
thanks alison 👍
Great video …..my cherry tomatoes are still going strong , I’ve got some fruit flies and birds 🦅
Where are you located? Would be interested to see if you are close to me as I haven’t seen fruit fly damage yet

I hope they get on top of them before they spread mate. They are a nightmare to control.
Great video mate 🇳🇿🌱
Thanks mate👍

Hi Glyn hope you have a speedy recovery. The garden should hopefully hold up hope it doesn’t get too hot for you over there
Hey mate
Have you ever thought about digging up your capsicum and over wintering them?

Oh I hadn't seen any fruit flies in the garden, but oh my, their grubs are in my tomatoes 😭
Yeah caterpillars everywhere at the moment
