    Great video, mate. You've got me planning my autumn crops also, which historically I wait till winter to do, haha

      Yeah I like to get an early start 😂seriously though it’s too late for most summer crops so I get an early start on brassicas. My best cauliflowers are grown at this time I’ll be harvesting the first heads by April

    Great job. Garden looks really productive and love how you tell us what you are planting and when you are hoping to harvest. Helps remind me I need to start my seedlings!!! Thanks mate

    I’m currently sat in the UK where the daytime temperature has been below freezing for the past week. It’s nice to see plants growing and it’s getting me excited for the new growing season.

    Hi Anthony, happy new year. Correct -there's nothing better than freshly picked veg for flavor. I picked some of my black cherry tomatoes last night for dinner and they were so sweet. Thanks for the reminder to start brassica seeds, good project at the moment with the rain. I need to amend my comment from the last video. I mis read my spread sheet. The cost benefit was only $400 not $700. But still, that's a significant benefit for such a small area. Looks like you are getting great harvests at the moment. Well done, Cheers.

      Hey mate the financial benefit is only one component of it having the satisfaction of growing and providing your own food is a big component as well. Being able to be self sufficient is a big one for me so well done on getting your garden producing for the family

      Yep can’t get any fruit otherwise. Dad’s also got a fortress for his fig tree as well. We have invested in a lot of netting 😀

    Thanks for dragging yourself off the beach finally 😎. Great update thank you Anthony - I'm really happy that I guessed right & sowed my broccoli (Atomic Performax F1) this week. As you know, I'm perma/poly culture & organic, but I'm testing out a few F1 hybrid varieties this coming season, to see if I can achieve more consistency & better disease resistance than always growing heirlooms. Have a great week Anthony & wishing the rain to hold off for you so your beans dry 😊

      Good on you for getting the brassicas started. I think you will find the hybrids will overall do better in your patch. Can’t wait to see the final harvest

    Here on the Northern Rivers of NSW I pick my toms when they're at the stage yours are now...just a bit of colour...and ripen them on the windowsill. Only way I can beat fruitfly.

    • @sydneybackyardveggies9612
      @sydneybackyardveggies9612  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah I do that as well. Also start my tomato season really early I plant out in August. Where you are you could easily plant this early also that would definitely help

    Another great update Anthony, and your editing and intro clip improvements don’t go unnoticed. I am glad you mentioned the shade for the bush beans, my Jade plant leaves are going crispy but the sun here in Adelaide is quite harsh. Also good information about the spider mite damage on the eggplant, what does it mean when the fruit turn dull and not their full color dark purple?

    • @sydneybackyardveggies9612
      @sydneybackyardveggies9612  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks nasreen appreciate this comment. I’m going to need to invest in a new computer to keep up with the editing it doesn’t have enough power and keeps crashing on me so it’s getting painful 😀 you will find that if your fruit is dull it’s either too old and needs to be picked and binned or you could have aphids. Do me a favour and check for the bugs on the underside of the leaves

    Hard to believe we are half way through summer!! Literally!! Although I gotta say I've not had many problems with bugs and birds at the moment!! But something keeps knicking and licking the buds off my lemon tree though!! Don't know what's been doing it!! And I've tried netting it!!

    Great work. How do you stay on top of the weeding it’s such a big garden?

    • @sydneybackyardveggies9612
      @sydneybackyardveggies9612  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I plant at relatively close spacings so the plant canopies shade out the weeds but when the veggies are still small I use a wire weeder to knock out the weeds when they are still small. I also use manures to mulch where needed and agitate the soil which acts as a soil mulch if you know what I mean. As we go through the season and get a bit of rain I can lose control of the weeds so I do do a bit of hand weeding as I go through the garden

    • @sydneybackyardveggies9612
      @sydneybackyardveggies9612  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I did 2 years ago and grew some nice ones but no one wanted to eat them! 😂I might look at putting in a punnet this year but you need to get them planted out pretty much now to get any crop come spring they take a long time

    With the corn, do you just pick it and throw it straight into the freezer for storage? And how are the crows and birds eating your figs but not touching the mangoes? I lost all my teeny tiny mango fruits, to birds, I suspect, because I didn't net it soon enough. They're trying the pomegranates and my persimmons, but there's enough of those that I'm not losing them all.

    • @sydneybackyardveggies9612
      @sydneybackyardveggies9612  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The sweet corn we eat fresh straight off the plant that night I might keep it in the fridge for a couple Sath’s but it mostly gets handed out to family to get eaten fairly quickly. Yeah they do eventually start attacking the mango and persimmon but they are focusing on the fig at the moment. Will net both this week

    Hi. Is that late blight on the older tomatoes? progressing up my tomatoes early this year. just enough time for a few good harvests and i'll need to put in new plants also.
    i planted a few jerusalem artichoke (sunchoke) under my lemon tree and they took off, rambling thru the lemon tree and now almost as tall as the lemon tree, about 2.5m. Hope i get a good harvest from them when the plants eventually die down.

    • @sydneybackyardveggies9612
      @sydneybackyardveggies9612  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah it was a combination of late blight and spider mites. It’s the time of the season for these diseases so no issue. Would be keen to see your harvest of the artichokes mate

    What do you do with all that sweetcorn Anthony?

    • @sydneybackyardveggies9612
      @sydneybackyardveggies9612  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They get eaten pretty quickly. The extended family all have put in orders in and when they are producing we will eat corn with dinner every day. Sweet corn homegrown is the best eating so it doesn’t last long 😀

    i think you have a pretty nice garden. but, do you think that all the chemical products could be the reason you've got all the issues you have. i do, you're way over the top with the amount of products you use. i don't use any of those crap and i mean CRAP chemical products you use and i don't have any of the issues you have. my recommendation is to cut them out and go natural and your garden would be so much better off for it. i'm not gonna hold my breath as you look set in your ways. but, there are better ways

      Thanks for watching. In my context I am happy to use inputs and amendments as needed to keep the veggies healthy and productive. I’m always looking for ways to grow better veggies and happy to use contact sprays and fertilisiers as needed. These work for me at the moment though always looking for new ways to
