03:10 Even though they have a Diesel engine, the Deltic has a characteristic, more revved up sound, which looks like it is going to explode, just like the Chieftain tanks.
Typical of 2-stroke engines with opposing pistons. Nothing sounds like them.
Fantastic compilation. It takes a lot of patience and love for trains to be waiting, no matter if it rains, snows, or 40 degrees in the shade.

Really the 9f was the height of Steam, after studying steam loco's around the world, all having their faults, the standard 9's took every innovation available to them , as well as all the tried a reliable methods, systems etc, and put it into one package..
It seems to a T all engineers and drivers loved them, they just worked, steamed well, made great power, and easy on the fireman.. those locos are legends in their own right..

    • @LinesideSouthEast

In the case of the HSTs (Intercity 125) both power cars are under power as there is an electronic connection via the carriages. With diesel locomotives in top and rail mode this varies, sometimes they work in unison sometimes it’s just the leading loco working.
