@@steventhornton4716 right? I can understand why we'd have them here in the US... But that's cause we can have (pardon my imperial units) 110°F Summers and 0°F winters with monsoon like rains during the warm weather, and freezing rain / enormous snow storms in the winter. The UK by comparison, is like very mild weather. I think the closest analogue for UK weather in the north America would be like Seattle or Vancouver.
@@scenicdepictionsofchicagolife we do get bad snow down to minus 15c it just depends on where the jet stream sits and where the cold air comes from I guess I've seen it 4 feet deep before now

At 8:02 that snowplow looks like something out ot a "Mad Max Thunderdome' movie! What an odd creature it is. I can't imagine that the UK gets that much snow to warrant such a beast. That said I was happy to see it!
It does, up in the North particularly Scotland and parts of Wales, where snow can drift and block lines in valleys.

They sound for all the world like diesels made by GE here in the USA. They have a wonderful 'chugging' exhaust note, due to the 4 cycle configuration. the older GE's had more noise than the new ones, a result of gov't regulation on sound output, I wager.

Well done - there's a few that could learn a video lesson from watching this. I was brought up using expensive cine film and was taught to let the subject move through the picture. So many today haven't got a clue how to use video, they wave their cameras about and make us all feel seasick! Thanks for sharing.

I'm lucky enough to remember the bigger brother to the class 37, the Class 40 in revenue earning service running at speeds of upto 90 mph on the main line in N Wales and NW England. What a sound!

Masterfully done! Nothing but the trains and the scenery. I love the chugging sound of the 4 cycle diesel, makes me think they are made by GE, but Wikipedia says otherwise. Thanks for a terrific video, well done! :D
Tinsby.... They are Not all 4 strokes... there are some 2 cycle EMD prime movers (from the USA) mixed in there as well.... ie: at the 9:05 - 9:50 and the freight at around the 10:25 if I remember right, as well as a few others. The UK Deltic's sound like a fart in a windstorm... my Harley-Davidson sounds a lot healthier! lol : )

Good video . The 20s on the snowploughs at Derby was that on Monday 24th June if so i went to Derby that day and missed them. I went past them just outside of Derby also missed 66779 on the stone train almost missed 66780 there too .

Love the fact that our old Cargo-D Mk. 2's and 3's still look the part 10 years on - they didn't look like that when we were picking them out at Long Marston and Kineton for reactivation. One Mk.3 FO looked like it had blue seats (they were actually maroon), until you realised that it was just mould because they were sealed up so tight and just sat there like giant petri dishes. We probably should've sold the upholstery and carpets to MOD Porton Down...

Great Video!..... love the deep throb of those 2 cycle EMD prime movers (Series 710 E3 = 710 cubic inches displacement per cylinder - not sure if they have the V12 or the V16 in these, though) in EMD's "export" locomotives from the US... one was the passenger pulling out at the 9:05, another was on the freight at around the 10:25, and several others. Those Deltic's sound like a "fart in a windstorm" lol.... but I will say that they seem to load fairly quickly though.

If could have own train...HST 1st then a 37 any day....awesome challenger tank of the rail ,....every 37 ive ever seen driver always toots or waves ...most friendly of drivers the only diesel to replace the 37 is another 37....033 at end looks really nice

Is that old rolling stock in the video still used in the north or were they specials I work on the railway in the West country and that was what we used in the 70 and 80 love the old stock

@@D._7nf Just focus on the far right of the screen as the track pushes down under the weight of the train. It's a little hard to see but it's noticeable
It's easily seen once the carriages head over as it is also picking up speed :)
Those sleepers could do with a bit of repacking and ballast tamping..

Jeezaz! 37's sound great these days. Didn't like them at all in '79.........and they seem faster than I remember too

At 7:58 are they snow plows? Did the Beast from the East put the scare into Network Rail. Pretty cool looking for sure, whatever they are..
I work for them and ive never seen those before.
Yes that’s a snow plough unit, there’s one sat in the down goods at March most of the year.

@@exb.r.buckeyeman845 I lived in the UK for about 8 years, (2002 - 2010) and I noticed that the snow has progressively ramping up in intensity of the last bunch of years. I love the snow day with pay when i was there. I lived in Hoddesdon Hertfordshire. Funny thing, every time it snowed I was volunteered to load and unload the truck... i was told it was because i was Canadian and used to it.. I hate winters.. LOL..
