    An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

      I mean, they were interested before; just not entirely as a separate unit.
      But I have to play devil's advocate here (based on other comments) and highlight that often the turnaround comes not because the pitcher is "rich", but because by saying they sold previous businesses for millions, they've demonstrated that they can build a successful business by themselves. So essentially the dragons hear, "You won't have to do much for me, just make profit based on your investment".

    This device is brilliant! Having it as a separate device means that you are free to choose any handset manufacturer you like. I bought mine in 2012 and it's still working. It's been months since a nuisance call even caused my phone to ring; back in 2012 I was getting 4-5 a day.

    • @RandomU2ber
      @RandomU2ber 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @stephenhosking7384 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for good news! I agree - as someone who has been bothered by nuisance calls through several generations of landline and mobile technology, I would have gone for the separate device. One long life product, fit for a specific purpose, beats all-in-one's, where I can rarely be bothered finding and programming the "features". I've heard that most people never even set the date on their DVD players, TV's, phones, etc (before the internet did it for us). Glad to hear it did well after this, and also that the phone manufacturers adopted it.

      What use is Caller ID unless you know the number of every single person, organisation and company who might call you and whose call you would be willing to accept? Hardly any use at all. You see the number, you don't recognise it, but you might still want to accept it - it might be your dentist, it might be a tradesman whom you've contacted for a quote, it might be a friend calling to let you know they have a new number, it could be any number of legitimate callers.

      @Eddie Turbine The problem is that scam/spam/nuisance callers spoof local numbers to get through, and it's a really huge problem where I am. I'm on the Do Not Call Register and it makes no difference, because the calls come from Indian call centres and there is too much volume for local authorities to deal with it.
      My phone flags these suspicious calls and I block them, but most people I know get one a week.

    We have only had number recognition for about 20 years or so. I have had 2 calls that were spam in the last 5 years or so. We have a 'don't call me' register in the Netherlands against commercial crap. So anything coming through is either scammers from india or some other illicit company. There's always the risk of insulting the rival investors when you make your preference for a particular Dragon known. Unfavoured Dragons might even exit the race in a huff, allowing the favourite to negotiate tougher. It's also an exposure of weakness; should your preferred Dragon turn you down, the others would know you're now desperate, and can negotiate accordingly. The entrepreneur was fortunate in this case but I think a better tactic would have been first to poke about with Theo and Debra, as the outsiders, before closing in on Peter.

      my guess is with peter jones backing him they would have moved with the smart phone trend and created the software which could be intergrated into our phones. I originally thought watching this that it would be a dead product knowing what comes next but with peter by his side i would imagine the company would have still worked out.

    • @Keanine
      @Keanine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ashleygoggs5679
      @ashleygoggs5679 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Keanine a lot of that comes down to you and how open you make yourself to telemarketers, so when you sign up to anything usually you have too tick a box too say your information cant be used outside of anything then what you are purchasing or signing up to. If this box isnt ticked you leave yourself open to telemarketers. So things like credit cards and stuff like this is were you may get them. As long as you are responsible with money and signing up to things you should rarely be faced with scam/spam calls.
      However much like antivirus im sure smart phone software developers are working hard to find and black list certain numbers much like an anti virus is constantly updating lists of known viruses, some will get through but if it wasn't there it would be noticeable.

      As far as I can tell, while the company is still going, they haven’t moved on at all and still sell the exact same device, aimed mainly at the elderly who still rely on a landline. They never got it integrated into a handset, and even the price is unchanged, so doesn’t look like Jones managed to grow the business much.
