the bad side about power toys is the amount of storage it occupies. It's now heading to its 1GB celebration, plus most of us only enabled few features. It would be cool if they would allow us to only download certain modules.

Syncthing is awesome , I use it for backuping my config files from 4 linux machines + 2 Windows machines. Especially when you add Tailscale to flatten your network - it becomes ultra powerful.
Great to hear, I think there’s also a tool called “EverythingToolbar” which integrates everything search into the taskbar if you’re interested in that functionality :)
@@Productive_TechZen cant be used as a default browser in Windows 11, if you want to open http/https links it wont work, so either you use it in Windows 10 or you need a second browser for that
Sumatra is free and open source and is generally suitable for my needs being super simple, though it is more of a reader as opposed to an editor. I believe with Foxit you have more editing features and probably a more modern-looking UI too but it does have a premium option so there are likely cons associated with that. To be fair I've only looked on the surface regarding Foxit so my recommendation would be to try Sumatra first and if you feel that you need more features (especially on the editing side of things) then give Foxit a go. Hope that helps.
loved your recommendation. but I can't make the taskbar on windows 11 on top using winaero tweaker. any suggestions? also zen browser has no inbuilt ads block mode
Thanks for the comment. In regards to moving the taskbar to the top I'd recommend the "Start11" tweaker application or the explorer patcher tool depending on your preference. Personally, I haven't used them before, so dont know how reliable or safe they are but people have mentioned these applications online as potential solutions that work pretty well. Regarding zen, though it might not come with a blocker I think this could be achieved through some extensions if you really wanted.
Best way to block ads is to run pi-hole on your network - that way it doesn't matter if you surf on your phone, lap/desktop or TV - ads are blocked before they reach your browser of choice.
No worries, unfortunately I don’t think dopamine allows you to do that, it seems to be just a simple jukebox/audio player application for locally stored files. Although there are applications out there, I haven’t found a good alternative to iTunes for that purpose that don’t have issues (I too have some old iPods). Will let you know if I find one though. :)
I'm working on quite a few windows (apps) videos at the moment and so have come across the "Imageglass" application as an alternative to the photos app. Not sure if this does what you're looking for but it is a more modern take on the "Photos" app with lots of customisation and controls. Hope that helps!
Appreciate that. A lot of people have recommended the zen browser which is based on Firefox so that could be good alternative if you wanted similar functionality to arc let's say
Tree size free comes to mind which is a good all rounder, the wiz tree application is also great and is more focused around speedy results and finally I'd recommend checking out file light app which is quite a lot lighter than the previous 2 and offers a slightly different but simpler interface. Hope that helps!

My bad and valid point, there are probably some good photo replacement applications out there but just didn’t manage to fit them all in as I wanted to keep the list at 10 items. Thanks for the suggestion, might feature it in another video 👍
Yep there's nothing "wrong" with using the built in players, they get the job done just fine. Just thought I'd show an alternative for those maybe looking for something with a different UI / now playing screen
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate the suggestion and will keep it in mind. I'm currently working on many more windows apps videos that are in a similar format to this one so keep a look out for those. :D
I've actually been looking into this for one of my future videos. Currently I use VLC but am testing and might switch to "Screen box" it's based on VLC from what I've read, but has a far more modern UI. To be honest the default photos app in windows or the film and tv app are not too bad overall as media players but yh it depends what you're after. Hope that helps
No worries! For photos specifically, you might want to consider “ImageGlass” as a photo viewer improvement / replacement. Stay tuned, I have more windows (11) content on the way soon! ;)
I had come across a few previously but I think all of them are generally more on the unstable side according to people online. Yh I agree windows could be dissected at this point as an example of "how to make inconsistent UI's" but hopefully it improves in the future.
Actually, I do remember a tool called Rectify 11 which aims to improve the Windows 11 UI inconsistencies but it appears their website is undergoing some updates rn. The last time I checked it a few months back the website was actually looking pretty good with some big promises. Though it does make some big changes so people should install it at their own risk. I'm sure you can find more information about it online.

My goodness! Sorry to hear, I think its one of those tools where you have to balance the frequencies on the low and high end if you are making your own sound profile and also depending on what type of music you are listening to...
uh Arc Browser!! Not having a Pause and Resume button in the downloads section is diabolical! and I wanna turn off Hardware acceleration so bad but guess what ain't an Option!
I was mainly sharing/referring to "free" software for windoourcedws 11 that would actually have visible benefits to an everyday end-user without worrying too much whether the software was open or closed-s. Not necessarily to get this "freedom" but just to improve the overall experience with some quality-of-life features. I agree if you really want open source then Linux is a solid option, however, for many people, it simply isn't feasible due to the workflow built up over decades or certain applications that people might rely on daily.
@@zeldar5120 Fair point, in hindsight I should of added it in as an honourable mention I think. I’m working on various windows apps videos in the meantime so keep an eye out for those 👍
I think it's more the rise in adequate built in pdf readers as part of all browsers over time that have reduced the need for them for a lot of people. However, they can still provide benefits for some people, hence why I mentioned it.

Which laptop are you using
My laptop is the XPS 15 9510. I’ve been using it for around 3 years and I've made a detailed review video on it here if you’re interested :)

Love your channel
Ah thanks man, really appreciate it!
Bonus, Syncthing and Chrome remote
Interesting hadn't come across these before, I'll have to look into them. Thanks 👍
Syncthing is awesome , I use it for backuping my config files from 4 linux machines + 2 Windows machines. Especially when you add Tailscale to flatten your network - it becomes ultra powerful.
everything is very good I use it all the time.
Great to hear, I think there’s also a tool called “EverythingToolbar” which integrates everything search into the taskbar if you’re interested in that functionality :)
very good thank you
Thank you so much! Glad it was useful :)
Arc is such an overrated browser.
Interesting, a lot of people have also commented the zen browser as a better alternative
@@Productive_TechZen cant be used as a default browser in Windows 11, if you want to open http/https links it wont work, so either you use it in Windows 10 or you need a second browser for that
Interesting, wasn't aware of that, thanks for the added info!
Came here to tell you about Zen Browser, looks like i don't need to anymore. 😅
@@Productive_Tech Can agree, zen is a lot better alternative.
Decent recommendations. Prefer open source. Thank you.
No worries, thanks for the comment, appreciate it! 🙂
Well done!
Thanks so much! :)
What are your thoughts on Foxit PDF viewer compared to Sumatra PDF?
Which is better?
Sumatra is free and open source and is generally suitable for my needs being super simple, though it is more of a reader as opposed to an editor. I believe with Foxit you have more editing features and probably a more modern-looking UI too but it does have a premium option so there are likely cons associated with that. To be fair I've only looked on the surface regarding Foxit so my recommendation would be to try Sumatra first and if you feel that you need more features (especially on the editing side of things) then give Foxit a go. Hope that helps.
@@Productive_Tech Thanks for your thoughts! Will try Sumatra first. Also Really Great Video!
Hoping for more content.
Good luck!
@@user-ry9pj6ip8h No worries at all, thank you so much! More videos on the way :)
Amazing video
Ah thanks so much for the comment, glad it was useful! :)
loved your recommendation. but I can't make the taskbar on windows 11 on top using winaero tweaker. any suggestions? also zen browser has no inbuilt ads block mode
Thanks a lot. I have a question. Do you know if with dopamine I can synchronize songs with an iPod as iTunes do?
No worries, unfortunately I don’t think dopamine allows you to do that, it seems to be just a simple jukebox/audio player application for locally stored files. Although there are applications out there, I haven’t found a good alternative to iTunes for that purpose that don’t have issues (I too have some old iPods). Will let you know if I find one though. :)
@@Productive_TechThanks
Any alternative to Photos app, something that could tweak minimal setting in photos like brightness and crop feature
I'm working on quite a few windows (apps) videos at the moment and so have come across the "Imageglass" application as an alternative to the photos app. Not sure if this does what you're looking for but it is a more modern take on the "Photos" app with lots of customisation and controls. Hope that helps!
Everything (void tools) is best ❤
Great thanks! :D
I would still prefer Firefox, IMO its much better than the chromium browsers out there.
Appreciate that. A lot of people have recommended the zen browser which is based on Firefox so that could be good alternative if you wanted similar functionality to arc let's say
Is there an app that allows us to check which app/folder is taking up so much space on the local drives? (like a visual representation)?
Tree size free comes to mind which is a good all rounder, the wiz tree application is also great and is more focused around speedy results and finally I'd recommend checking out file light app which is quite a lot lighter than the previous 2 and offers a slightly different but simpler interface. Hope that helps!
spacesniffer, outdated ui but works really well.
@@starringraz Yep agree there, works well but really in need of an upgrade to the UI
Thank you.
I used Tree Size Free, but then, about 2 months ago changed to Wiztree, which is also free and amazingly good.
10 useful apps for GNOME
I will dive into Linux at some point in the future but will be a while as I need windows for various things. When I do, I’ll be sure to make various videos on that :)
@@Productive_Tech if you do Imma sub to you ok?
Haha lol, it will be a while before I get to it though cause I’ve been using windows and windows only since like forever. Plus I rely on a lot of applications for daily work. I’ll have to get another machine or something for testing purposes but Yh in the meantime hopefully the videos I make might be of interest to you :)
@@Productive_Tech ok :)
Lol thx my guy, I didn't even know intel made this.
No worries, glad it was useful, thanks for the comment! :)
In terms of pdf reader and annotator why not try xodo?
I’m currently working on various windows apps videos, this is definitely something I’m checking out. Maybe a PDF apps guide coming at some point.. 👀. Be sure to keep a look out!
Some pictures viewer like Honeyview is missed to view the pictures for photos replacement.
My bad and valid point, there are probably some good photo replacement applications out there but just didn’t manage to fit them all in as I wanted to keep the list at 10 items. Thanks for the suggestion, might feature it in another video 👍
bro casualy saving my sanity 3:35
Haha, XD. You're most welcome! :)
you should try okular instead of sumatra
very nice video btw liked and subbed! :DD
Ah amazing, thank you so much for subscribing and the support, I really appreciate it! Never heard of okular before, I’ll check it out! 🙂
i have mp3's in folders. wmp works just fine, no problem whatsoever.
Yep there's nothing "wrong" with using the built in players, they get the job done just fine. Just thought I'd show an alternative for those maybe looking for something with a different UI / now playing screen
Forgot Revo Uninstaller, must have for windows
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate the suggestion and will keep it in mind. I'm currently working on many more windows apps videos that are in a similar format to this one so keep a look out for those. :D
Any good video players? Most media players look too outdated on windows .Any suggestions?
I've actually been looking into this for one of my future videos. Currently I use VLC but am testing and might switch to "Screen box" it's based on VLC from what I've read, but has a far more modern UI. To be honest the default photos app in windows or the film and tv app are not too bad overall as media players but yh it depends what you're after. Hope that helps
@@Productive_Tech the Microsoft photos/media player is too basic. I looked into Screenbox and it's looking promising and I might switch. Thanks!!
Give Potplayer a try
Cheers, appreciate the suggestion!
No worries! For photos specifically, you might want to consider “ImageGlass” as a photo viewer improvement / replacement. Stay tuned, I have more windows (11) content on the way soon! ;)
What about the Zen browser? Is it good?
To be honest I haven't tried it myself but I am looking into it. Aim to have a video on it some point in the future. Thanks for the comment 👍
is there one to fix UI inconsistencies? cuz that's what's been bugging me lately
@@Productive_Tech future? i have lost hope man its been 3 years already, if they wanted to they would've
@@Alikk784 Yh I was definately being more optimistic there.... Microsoft really need to get their act together regarding actually providing a good consistent user experience. I mean as many other views have suggested - Linux? Or should I even consider MacOS at this point? Needless to say both are increasing in market share slowly so you'd think that Microsoft can get it together before it's too late
Using Sumatra PDF since 2013
Yep, it's a great lightweight application that just works

Does one of them wipe your hard drive and reboot you into a Linux installer? Cause that's really the only app that Windows needs to be great.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find that app :/ Many people suggest mint as a good starting point into Linux?
@@Productive_Tech That's too bad, that would have made Windows actually usable. 🤣
Top 1: Linux Mint
Interesting...
PDF. I prefer the free PDF24 over Sumatra that I didn't like.
Cool, thanks for the PDF24 suggestion
Chrome: uses to much RAM, so we use.... Chrome... eh Arc, trust me bro, it's not the same browser with a different UI
Maybe my explanation wasn't too good in the video but I was not meant to mean that arc and chrome are the same but with a different UI. They are quite different despite both being chromium based
@@Productive_Tech I mean, sure, what I ment is: if Chrome is a RAM Hog, Arc is too, they use the same RAM generator under the hood, so RAM usage is maybe not the best argument against chrome :)
Ah I see, no worries, my bad. From what I read online Arc tends to use similar or slightly less ram than chrome but what you say makes sense, especially as Arc is chromium based. Appreciate the comment and clarification on this! 🙏
Arc uses way more battery than chrome or Firefox for you notebook users
Thanks, appreciate the added info!
You missed the power toys app
I’ll be making a dedicated video on the powertoys app in the future soon :)

uh Arc Browser!!
Not having a Pause and Resume button in the downloads section is diabolical! and I wanna turn off Hardware acceleration so bad but guess what ain't an Option!
Valid and fair points, I’m working on Arc and zen browser videos so stay tuned!
MS Edge is best for pdf XD
As far as browsers go, yep I’d have to agree that it’s definitely one of the best built in readers
Isnt it somehow embarissing that Intel has to do the work with Unison of Windows and Apple?
Interesting take
1:43 Warpinator is way better
Interesting, I wasn't aware of this, thanks for sharing!
a browser you need acounts to use
Fair point
why do you so equip closed source vindows to get “freedom” and some kind of “Fix All the Major Problems”.
When there is open source linux ?
I was mainly sharing/referring to "free" software for windoourcedws 11 that would actually have visible benefits to an everyday end-user without worrying too much whether the software was open or closed-s. Not necessarily to get this "freedom" but just to improve the overall experience with some quality-of-life features. I agree if you really want open source then Linux is a solid option, however, for many people, it simply isn't feasible due to the workflow built up over decades or certain applications that people might rely on daily.
i dont know why kde connect is never shown on those types of video
@@zeldar5120 Fair point, in hindsight I should of added it in as an honourable mention I think. I’m working on various windows apps videos in the meantime so keep an eye out for those 👍
zen browser is better than arc

@@Productive_Tech Sure thing

Sorry, I've updated the link now, let me know if it works, it should take you to the Microsoft Store
I see you guys to young... having a pdf reader on windows was a basic think back in the days. You could have it on symbian as well
I think it's more the rise in adequate built in pdf readers as part of all browsers over time that have reduced the need for them for a lot of people. However, they can still provide benefits for some people, hence why I mentioned it.
localsend mutch better than intel unisom
Thanks, appreciate the suggestion, I would agree that the open source nature of it does make it appealing
I will rate
Auto dark mode good
Flow launcher good
Unison not needed windows phone link is much better or can also try Quick share from windows store
Winaero tweaked good
Nilesoft shell good
Dopamine not needed windows media player is better
Fx sound good if don't have any other eq tuner in pc
Arc browser its a overrated crap just use Microsoft edge or firefox
Sumata pdf nah just use just use pdf reader thats buildin Edge it can do most of the tasks
Sharex nah just use windows snipping tool
Interesting.. thanks for your breakdown
sharex is much better than the snipping tool. js because its a screenshot tool dosent mean that is the same thing as the default app
arc is completely different to firefox or edge. i dont like it cuz it isnt for me but its defo not the same thing as a regular browser.
windows media player is old and has an ugly ui
@@Moli05 All fair and valid points thanks for your deeper breakdown
The best way to solve Windows 11 problems is not to install it.

XD, alright you got me there lol
If you know how to handle your data, then Microsoft edge is a very nice option as it's deeply integrated within windows and is very efficient plus it has a lots of features built into it. I personally loves it
Appreciate the detailed comment. I agree there, the PDF reader is pretty good as well for one that's built into the browser and the full screen implementation is pretty decent as well.
Arc is unreliable and slow. I couldn't use it.
I've been testing it out recently for a future video and I've found it to be a little confusing and that zen seems to be a better choice for similar functionality on windows.
