WEll, there was one guy that built a sleeping buggy that he could pull with his bicycle. There's a TH-cam video of the design (not exactly the most secure, but an interesting idea -- I think the guy was an ex-airplaine engineer if I remember correctly as it closely resembled a plane fuselage.
People live day to day complaining about not having enough money and not being able to afford things. And then there’s people like this. Living in a Prius and enjoying life
I've seen multiple videos of people living out of a Van, SUV or car but my main question always is... what the hell do these people do for money?... I imagine their jobs are something that's online because i can't see someone always on the move and having a job that isn't online. I guess it determines what job you have for this to be a viable option. I do really enjoy seeing these videos because it proves the "I can't afford this/ i need more money" people wrong in a way... It's all about budgeting and living out of a vehicle is budgeting at it's extreme imo. No electricity bills (unless you're driving a Prius), Gas bills literally boil down to your car and if you built yourself a kitchen then how often you buy a propane tank. Internet bills would be far lower as i imagine you would be using free wifi hot-spots and your mobile plan internet majority of the time
Most people in America live paycheck to paycheck, little to no savings, getting in debt for the latest gadgets and stuff. Year after year, rinse and repeat. Life is over before you know it. You live freely, travel, and look happy and healthy. It takes courage and discipline to plan things like this and execute it especially. Hats off to you. You will achieve anything you want. You are way ahead of the game. This overworked city guy salutes you! Stay safe, healthy and happy! Andrew
I wonder where he gets his money from? Seeing as thougj jes got all pretty nice and brand new stuff. Odd jobs? Mommy and daddy? Trustfund? Saved every penny since he was 9? Im truly curious.

1. Love the "living out of your car" lifestyle. 2. Love your organization and simplicity. 3. Love your personality. I was thinking the whole time this is someone I would hang out with!
kinda forced to live in a vehicle now. My first choice is a Prius. While I do have a home and my family lives with me. The biggest issue is I am 21 and all the work is two hours away in another town. (Small town america am I right?) So not only do I have to drive two hours to work two jobs and go to school. I also have to sleep in my vehicle so I dont swerve around and kill myself or someone else. My obvious choice is to get another vehicle to stay in. I have the money, the funds, the time, and a location. All I need is to convert the vehicle for part time living. The prius seems the best choice because of fuel and its cooling/heating options. Most people will say "GET A APARTMENT LOL" but why would I? It would just be a major drain on what money I have. I would barely use it with my busy schedule other then to sleep or eat a few meals. I don't want to be tied down with all those bills, I have a home I live in that my family uses. (inherited) why should I just drain away my money that could be used to fund for school? Im playing it smart here as I can get.
Live Easy I am impressed by your arrangements and use of spaces, but this is still a bit small. Why not get a used van of something so you can have more space. I saw a similar video on youtube but in a van and boi was i so impressed i made my own. I dont even live in it. But saves hotel money when i got for a trip so...
That's literally every security system. The point isn't to make it impenetrable. The point is to make it not worth the effort or just more difficult than another target.
I've watched a few videos of people living in their cars and their disorganized nature was giving me so much anxiety (OCD). Thank you for this video. You've calmed my nerves lol. Your home is super organized, neat and well-thought of.
Agreed. There's so much to enjoy about his organization but my favorite part about this was the velcro carpet on top of the cooler. That was... exciting to me. So well thought out.
I lived out of a car for 5 months and then a large cargo van for 9 months. The cargo van with a cage was much better for privacy although when sleeping in a car and you get cold, you turn on the engine and run the heat and then go back to sleep. I have housing now. These TH-cam videos had an impact on my decision to try this lifestyle. To be honest, I found the whole fucking thing to be depressing and you know you are living on the wrong side of the law since there are cops out at night looking for people to mess with. They say you do not know what you have until it is gone. Having heat at night, a toilet to use, running water and even a sink to spit your toothpaste after brushing your teeth are wonderful things to have. I can only speak from my experience.
It’s cool that you gave it a try! I had my share of depressing days on the road too, but when I had a purpose and a healthy routine it was great. Plus there is a lot to say about intentional deprivation to inspire appreciation for those little things you mentioned. Better than having thought about it but never tried, right?
@@LiveEasy dude you have it sorted, but for me food preparation was a big hassle, not enough fresh food, poor nutrition seemed to affect my judgment whilst travelling, setting up was a hassle, police waking me was a hassle, getting the spare out was a hassle, and overtaxing a vehicle that was not built to do what i was doing proved costly as well. It works for you and that's awesome, thx for showing us how you do it.
I give this guy credit, not living within society criteria. He can basically drive away from storms. I hope he’s happy and maybe in time can buy a small hunting cabin. Less is more sometimes
Well done mate. I've been living in my Ford Escape for 12 years and wouldn't have it any other way. You must be highly organized and totally clean within the panels of your home. A grubby car with obvious signs will always attract attention. Clean healthy lifestyle is recommended and you will save a fortune on living costs. Cheers from Australia 😀
Hey Peter! Clean is SOO important in such a small space, particularly when it comes to psychological health. 12 years in an Escape? I could probably learn a lot from you. Cheers to you!
I mean this in the nicest way possible but I’d just like to point out the need to be super organised is NOT OCD. I’m not offended because, frankly, I have pretty thick skin but lots of people talk about “having OCD” but all they’re doing is trivialising the condition. It’s distressing to live with genuine OCD. The risk of suicide is higher and substance abuse is common. When you have legit OCD, you only engage in specific actions as a way to stop something terrible (bearing in mind this terrible thing is usually completely fabricated in your head) from happening. Just for the sake of education, here’s an example: Switching a light on and off three times when you enter a room because it’s a habit - not OCD Switching a light on and off three times when you enter a room because you’re terrified that a murderer will be encouraged to enter and kill you if you don’t - more likely to be OCD Being organised for the sake of it and because it looks pretty - not OCD Being organised so that you are prepared for the apocalypse and want to make sure that you can grab everything you need at a moment’s notice - more likely to be OCD Having intrusive thoughts about your partner engaging in sexual acts (maybe even somebody from their past) and abusing substances or asking questions about her past to help “cope” with the images - likely to be OCD Quadruple checking that your house windows are locked because if you don’t lock it, your cat might escape and get hit by a car - likely to be OCD Hoarding personal possessions due to a fear of losing your identity if you give up or sell the things you own - likely to be OCD OCD can be horrendously destructive to one’s psyche. I know you didn’t mean anything by it but, as someone that suffers with it, I just want to get as much education out there as possible so that next time someone says it, they stop and reassess. Best wishes to you :)
+Lucas Williams I'm sorry to tell you but switching a light on/off a specific amount of times before one enters/exits a room IS obsessive compulsive. What you're calling a habit is actually OCD. Being organized is NOT OCD. However, if items are moved and one immediately places them back to their original locations (accompanied by stress) OCD would likely be the diagnosis. Doing any of the above because one thinks they'll be murdered or there's a coming apocalypse, it's probably schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
This is No way to live, it might be cool for a youtube video, but thats it, there is No advantage to squeezing yourself into a cramped sweaty car with No toilet, fridge etc, its retarded
Yes but here you're trading off cost for less security. AT least with most apartments, they would be more secure than a car. This might be OK for a weekend trip, but for full time or even for extended periods of time, you're either going to want a camper of some sort.
I sold my gas guzzling Mercedes E class and bought the same model Prius as you. The money I've saved this past year has surpassed my expectations - I'm getting more than double the miles for every gallon I buy. As for the size of the car - it's bigger inside than the Merc was and has loads of storage space. I'm totally sold on this car and as for comments about the climate control/ ac, it's the best system I've had on ANY car! Loved the video and the drone shot at the start is SO impressive!
I was about to load a 3-seat sofa from IKEA into my '04 Prius and a guy next to me in an SUV said, "Are you expecting to get all that in your car?" I had a good laugh when I pulled away with the sofa snug in my car while he was still struggling to load up. I now refer to my Prius as my truck.
Thank you VERY much for making and sharing this video as I am tired of being broke every month because of high rent and I am considering living in my Corolla (smile)
I believe in the future the car industry are going to build live in cars🚘, fold up beds with lots of storage space, cause rent prices are going to continue to sky rocket out of control.
An overwhelming majority of people will not notice it. Those that do, will have no idea why it’s there. So many people think it’s to power the car 🤷🏻♂️

Re: "Nobody is going to pull you over for having perforated vinyl on your windows": 1) I'm not a cop but to me that looks way sketchier than tinted windows. If you put some kind of ad on it then it looks professional, but having blank perforated vinyl on your car makes me wonder what you're so desperate to hide. 2) That perforated vinyl is most likely going to fail the same tests that cops do for window tint, which just measures the percentage of light that can pass through the windows. 3) Window tint laws only apply to cars being registered in the state in question, not to cars passing through from out of state. So you really only have to worry about the laws for the state in which it's registered. I do like the perforated vinyl overall, but I don't think it makes the car any less conspicuous to cops or passerbys.
A difference of opinion about if vinyl is sketchy is fine, but you're wrong about window tint laws. In some states, yeah, they'll consider the state where the car is registered, but that leniency varies based on the state. Some states do (not surprisingly) expect you to follow their laws, so my point of using this to eliminate the concern stands. Additionally, this solution is in contrast to putting reflective material or cardboard up in the window, as so many people do when sleeping in a car. No one is going to say vinyl looks more sketchy than something that's obviously makeshift. You know what else would fail the light transmission tests? Non-perforated vinyl. Meaning you can't see out of it nor in. Non-perforated vinyl is legal, so there's definitely no problem with perf.
A state cannot enforce their tint laws when you vehicle is not registered in their state. A judge will throw it out in court it’s the same principle as some states requiring front plates and dual plate state will not give you a ticket for not having a single plate when your resident state does not
I am actually planning to do a video that is a response to Prius haters. I have heard people say that it pollutes more than a hummer, that the fuel economy is exaggerated and actually worse than comparable gas vehicles, and that if you drive one you are a feminine gay extreme liberal who drives horribly and virtue signals to everyone around them about how they are saving the planet. 🤔
Ha, ha, ha. I wasn't trying to save the planet when I purchased my Prius. After owning a Ford Explorer, I was trying to save some cash by being able to pass by as many gas stations as I could without stopping. As far as exaggerating gas mileage, I was getting 48-50 mpg when I first purchased it. That was eight years ago. I probably get around 45 or so mpg now. I think this is because of my driving habits. When I first got the car, I paid attention to how my driving may be influencing the mpg. Now I don't pay attention. But I'm still passing by a lot of gas stations. As for being feminine, gay, extremely liberal. I'm pretty sure I don't qualify. You mentioned getting exceptional wear out of your brake pads. Honestly, I thought I was being negligent because I have 98,000 miles and I'm on the same pads. I had the dealership check them with my last oil change. They said, "Nope, you don't need pads. Still good." These folks can talk about my Prius all they want. It has been nothing but outstanding. I love it!
Wow! This is amazing! He turned the Prius into a living space. This is incredible. Unbelievable. More power to you. YOU have done an amazing job. Wow! YOU have made it like home. More power to you!
Amazing ideas, very smart, encompasses all issues with excellent aesthetic results. The perforated vinyl - brilliant!!! You’re a brainiac! Wish you a great life Dude!
It seems like a lot of additional weight (carriers, solar panels). How exactly does it affect the MPG and the stability/center of gravity of the Prius? What makes me hesitate about the Prius is its ability to "get up and go," i.e., entering a freeway. Do you experience any issues?
The mpg went from 44 to 38 with all this stuff. I have never had a problem getting up to the speed I needed. I think mine does 0-60 in 10 seconds. Newer ones are faster. Why not give one a test drive?
I just got a 2nd gen Hatckback Prius and it's faster entering a freeway than the gas-guzzling V8 Chevy Tahoe I replaced it with :D You have nothing to hesitate about this is a non-issue
One thing I'd like to see is how much the total conversion cost from purchase of the car to THIS video. That would be interesting to see a total sum of cash if someone were to potentially look into this. This is really super helpful. I am figuring it out now how to retrofit my car to head westbound after covid is all done. Ontario to Alberta baby! I can't wait to do this in my little hatchback Mazda 3 2014!!!!
Thank you for the tips! I'm moving to LA and am kinda scared about doing this but watching your vids makes me feel better. My family is totally against it but I'm not gonna live in a hostel or rent a room in some person's apartment. I have a Honda fit that I can sprawl out in (I'm 5'8 on a good day) so for once it pays to be short haha
Wow, I can definitely live in there! I thought I would need at least a van to live, but you convinced me that it's possible to go even smaller! Btw you did a much better job than some other dude who lives in a Tesla model X
Thanks dude! This was very helpful, especially the window tenting. I'm moving into a Ford Focus soon and boondocking my way up the Pacific Northwest coast.. you're video also made my dream feel doable!!
SUPER smart arrangement! I'm moving into my Outback (granted a bit more space) but this video has been the most helpful thus far for how I like to live from a vehicle.
Thanks for the great feedback, Kris. If you’re interested, I have more useful info in blog form at liveeasydrivehard.com Best of luck in your Outback adventures!
That storage box being mounted outside of the car is too obvious. Somebody will find a way to steal that just because they may think there's something valuable inside. However, everything is by the far the best setup I've seen on TH-cam.
Quantay Peoples Thanks! Stealing the box would not be an easy task unless they brought a couple wrenches. More likely they’ll just pry it open like what happened in Dallas, but I don’t keep anything very interesting in there.
I appreciate your good tips! The perforated vinyl is a good one. I would like to do something similar with my Honda coupe, remove the back seat and install some sort of storage/bed system like yours. Thanks for posting.

Live Easy haha right on! I want to live off the grid myself that's why I'm watching these videos. Seeing so many people actually doing it makes me feel like I can do it too. Keep on doing what you do.
Wow. Truly came across several ideas I have never seen before here! Exercise mat, boat carpet, and the perforated vinyl are brilliant solutions! Nice job.
Great actually. Having little padding forces you to sleep on your back, which is the BEST position to sleep in if you have back issues. It takes some training, but I don’t even sleep with a pillow anymore. I want to be as flat as possible. 🙂
So.. great videos by the way... one question. Can you sleep in there with the A/C or heat on all night? What mode do you use? Just pushing the power button without the brake just runs the fan...do u actually turn the car on? Like “ready to drive” mode and run the air or heat all night safely? I have a 2012 and I’m ready to do some Prius camping!
With drive mode on with the AC/heat running will only cost A couple bucks a night. I tried my very best to do that as little as possible. Lots of people run it each night though. Good luck with your camping!
You don't use the Prius AC overnight? I thought that was one of the big advantages - engine runs for a couple of minutes an hour, burn half a gallon overnight, stay cool...
Kevin Blanc Sure, that is always an option. Having climate control in a vehicle is amazing. But personally I’m trying to save money where I can and AC is easy enough to forgo with the use of a fan and cracked windows.
Sum Mors with the prius powered on, it will only and automatically run the gas motor as needed to recharge the battery (or if driving, to add additional power to the drivetrain). Yes, it's as if it comes with a built in "smart" generator
Sum Mors yes! I've been vanlife full time since last September in a dodge grand caravan. It got as low as 8° F here in north Carolina this winter (not exactly Minnesota, but for this delicate Floridian...) and I have to manually crank the engine when I get too cold, then wait until I wake back up from the heat to shut it back off. No more will this be the case with the 2005 prius I just bought today, and for $2700 out the door! I leave it on, set the automatic climate control to the temp I want, then drift off until morning. The gas motor starts and stops itself as needed, no input from me necessary. I'm very excited for this!
". But personally I’m trying to save money where I can and AC is easy enough to forgo with the use of a fan and cracked windows." is it not possible to just turn on the fan but not the AC? i thought any cars could do that.
Very nice setup! You should be able to run a small electric cooler such as a Dometic in your current setup. It would obviously depend on where and when you are in sunlight and you battery size but the 100w panel would be enough to run such a cooler 24/7. No more ice and no more mess. If you drive a lot you can also charge your battery with an small inverter plus smart charger (about $100 total) that will refill your house battery at a rate of about 4amp/hour and if you ever motel it or stay with friends you can use the charger to condition the battery and run the cooler over night. Don't cheap out and get a piezo-electric cooler (under $100) as they use much more power and don't cool as well. A real compressor cooler ($400+) is much more efficient. Will pay for itself after maybe 100 bags of ice and so much food that does not get warm and ruined. Be careful charging any lead-acid battery (including AGM) inside the cabin while the car is not driven and therefore ventilated. I have done 3 trips through Canada and Alaska with a similar setup (Prius V) in the last 3 years but of course camping in low-population areas is quite different than full-time living in your car and willing to stay in cities.
Dude you didn't mention the badass Prius Temp Control System that just keeps everything Chill in a Prius all the time. It's the ultimate efficient generator barely using gas only when it really needs to.
Yeah, that's certainly incredibly great. I'll talk about it in a later episode. Honestly I'm a level of frugal that I usually avoid using it unless I'm really miserable.
i am so happy for you. my grandma owns a prius and this i’ve rode in it for several years, always noting how easy one could live in it. well, i’m living in my 2000 chevy cavalier with my boyfriend now, and i am missing the space and changeability of the prius so much. i’m going to take all the tips in this video and see what we can do with it. thank you for being the authentic you and sharing your knowledge with us.
get a decent class B campervan. yes, the mpg is less, but there's always a tradeoff. you are getting a proper restroom, kitchen stove/refrigerator and more room for eating/sleeping. also buy a honda cub motobike so you can travel quickly around town without wasting much gas. mount the honda cub motobike in the rear of the campervan
Live Easy class B campervan can be parked in a normal parking space. class C is the the one you can't park in a normal parking space. yes, it's more expensive per month, but not by much. there's always tradeoff to everything
I didn’t mean expensive in terms of per month. I meant to buy a camper and a motorbike would be expensive. I used a Prius not because I think it’s best, but because I already owned one and it was paid off.
Live Easy a honda cub is considered a scooter and can be bought used for as little as $500 or less (it's also light too). a used class B campervan from 1995-2000 can be bought for $10,000 or less with less than 100,000 miles.
Now that’s what I call bundling home *and* auto insurance...

Hats off to you. You will achieve anything you want. You are way ahead of the game. This overworked city guy salutes you! Stay safe, healthy and happy!

kinda forced to live in a vehicle now.
This is the most cleanest, organized car living I've seen its amazing.

Yeah I have no idea why people do this. You're being willingly homeless.
@@EzraB123 I tried this lifestyle and was totally miserable everything is such a hassle.

The Hitech Hobo totally
i'm like "how he do dat?!?", lol.
Just for the sake of education, here’s an example:
Switching a light on and off three times when you enter a room because it’s a habit - not OCD
Switching a light on and off three times when you enter a room because you’re terrified that a murderer will be encouraged to enter and kill you if you don’t - more likely to be OCD
Being organised for the sake of it and because it looks pretty - not OCD
Being organised so that you are prepared for the apocalypse and want to make sure that you can grab everything you need at a moment’s notice - more likely to be OCD
Having intrusive thoughts about your partner engaging in sexual acts (maybe even somebody from their past) and abusing substances or asking questions about her past to help “cope” with the images - likely to be OCD
Quadruple checking that your house windows are locked because if you don’t lock it, your cat might escape and get hit by a car - likely to be OCD
Hoarding personal possessions due to a fear of losing your identity if you give up or sell the things you own - likely to be OCD
OCD can be horrendously destructive to one’s psyche. I know you didn’t mean anything by it but, as someone that suffers with it, I just want to get as much education out there as possible so that next time someone says it, they stop and reassess.
Best wishes to you :)
+Lucas Williams
I'm sorry to tell you but switching a light on/off a specific amount of times before one enters/exits a room IS obsessive compulsive.
The Hitech Hobo I approve the OCD ...LOL

It's really not bad if you move to a less expensive place.

I agree!
Thanks for the kind words. And yeah I’ve never been happier with a car, yet so many people LOVE to hate Priuses.

Re: "Nobody is going to pull you over for having perforated vinyl on your windows":
1) I'm not a cop but to me that looks way sketchier than tinted windows.
And maybe a little extra revenue coming in from endorsements, products advertising painted on that white perforated vinyl
A judge will throw it out in court it’s the same principle as some states requiring front plates and dual plate state will not give you a ticket for not having a single plate when your resident state does not
Samuel Burke I thought the same too. Also, having solar panel on the roof is a dead giveaway.
LeagueofAverageGamers who needs the hassle of even going to court to contest this?
Man, this was awesome! I own a Prius. Never would've crossed my mind that this tiny car could become so "large." Super cool!
Thanks Eric. Yeah our cars are so good that people have to make up ridiculous or inaccurate reasons to hate them.
So true. But we're the one's passing by them as they fill up their cars at the gas station.
Still good."
These folks can talk about my Prius all they want. It has been nothing but outstanding. I love it!
Thanks bud. I found this very helpful for some ideas that I am going to try and incorporate into my living in my car situation.

Love the rod and clamp idea. I will be using that for sure!
Heck yeah. Spring clamps are crucially useful. 🙂
Prius can "get up and go" just fine. I have mazda 6 and prius. LOVE both.

Great actually. Having little padding forces you to sleep on your back, which is the BEST position to sleep in if you have back issues. It takes some training, but I don’t even sleep with a pillow anymore. I want to be as flat as possible. 🙂
Nice! Next time can you show how you actually sleep in there? Do you have to sleep diagonally or something? Is Prius big enough?
There is over 6’5” from the back of the passenger seat (slid forward) and the back of the interior
Do you put your pillow on your cooler??
No, I put it near the tailgate.
@@LiveEasy What do you do about heating and cooling when you are sleeping? Nighttime bathroom needs?
"these thieves think their gonna get some free refried beans, They got another thing comein"! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Rewatched like 10 times hilarious
Thank you Matt! 😀
@@LiveEasy yea bro live it up!
So.. great videos by the way... one question.
". But personally I’m trying to save money where I can and AC is easy enough to forgo with the use of a fan and cracked windows."
is it not possible to just turn on the fan but not the AC? i thought any cars could do that.
The AC can be turned off with the fan left running
Really enjoyed watching this video for both its content and your hilarious personality. 😂
Thanks! 🙂
I have done 3 trips through Canada and Alaska with a similar setup (Prius V) in the last 3 years but of course camping in low-population areas is quite different than full-time living in your car and willing to stay in cities.
nice.. any advise available for battery tyoe and solar, or about Alaska travel? henry prius v tuna1943roger@yahoo.com
i just got a prius and i got this in my recommended. i know what i’m doing once i graduate.
Get iiiit, Parker! 🤘🏻
Does that count as an open container
Dude you didn't mention the badass Prius Temp Control System that just keeps everything Chill in a Prius all the time. It's the ultimate efficient generator barely using gas only when it really needs to.
Yeah, that's certainly incredibly great. I'll talk about it in a later episode. Honestly I'm a level of frugal that I usually avoid using it unless I'm really miserable.
Dena Nusrat Yes it does.
It definitely will. It’s been on every model for like 20 years.
In high heat I crack windows, run a fan, and wear less clothes.
This mans OCD makes me very comfortable
Derek Hughesy its not OCD hes just neat
i am so happy for you. my grandma owns a prius and this i’ve rode in it for several years, always noting how easy one could live in it. well, i’m living in my 2000 chevy cavalier with my boyfriend now, and i am missing the space and changeability of the prius so much. i’m going to take all the tips in this video and see what we can do with it. thank you for being the authentic you and sharing your knowledge with us.
Thanks Germy. Good luck to you!
The MTV cribs comment got you my like good job
get a decent class B campervan. yes, the mpg is less, but there's always a tradeoff. you are getting a proper restroom, kitchen stove/refrigerator and more room for eating/sleeping. also buy a honda cub motobike so you can travel quickly around town without wasting much gas. mount the honda cub motobike in the rear of the campervan
Sounds great. And expensive. And a parking nightmare.
$10,500, to me, is massively expensive. I’m not going to spend it when I’m already happy with things as they are now. I appreciate the advice.
That boyscout voice killed me lmao
