My brother works for the Dallas Coroners Office and he's told us all multiple times (paraphrasing)..."Your tire and your rim are worth less than your life. If you get a flat on a highway, drive off it before changing it!" He's had to work multiple scenes where someone was simply trying to change their tire along the highway but ended up losing their life. Lose the tire and the rim instead of your life!!
In some states there are time limits on how long you can stop at. Rest stops. This is because people living out of their cars and trucks having camping out in the rest stops. And those states you will not be encouraged to sleep there. But if you stop in the middle of the night and catch a few hours sleep That's what the rest stops are for.
Ok I'm an ER nurse and just want to put my two cents in by saying park/sleep at a hospital. There's always a family member sleeping in a car in the parking lot vs the chairs in the rooms so it's not out of the ordinary to see people sleeping in their cars lol. Security regularly patrols and is used to it. There's also cameras on the parking lots at all times and emergency call buttons every few light posts. My hospital is right off of an interstate and we often have truckers sleep there too 😊
That's not always an option. Many hospitals security will knock on your window and wake you up and tell you to leave. Might be okay at your hospital but at the many I've been to on the West coast it is not okay for you to sleep there.
When I was working in hospital before I retired I was paying hundreds of pounds a year paid to the hospital parking company. They kept putting the price up and it was taken direct from my wages before I got it. That was only for duty times. Patient have to pay to be there after 20 minutes at £1.65 per hour. It is a scam as the hospital get a small amount and the Board members are directors of the parking company and get directors fees .😊
sadly if more and more homeless people did this now there would be less parking for people arriving for family emergencies, so in a pinch this is a good idea, but not really.
@@imbeautiful9305Homeless?? Thats a bit judgemental. If I am sleeping in my car, that is my home. I sleep in my car because I want to explore, it doesnt mean I am homeless. My car is my "vacation home" and my house is paid for. Its my choice where I sleep...I believe in FREEDOM. You could learn a lot from being "homeless" you should try it. 👍 That said, most hospjtals make you pay to park, but this is a great idea....then, go visit someone inside, make them smile, use their shower. Win-win. 😂
I was driving from upstate NY to DC sometime in the early aughts in a snowstorm and got pulled over. I think I was weaving a tiny bit bc I was so sleepy. He escorted me to a truck stop, waited until I used the rest room, got something to eat (I didn’t know he was waiting). He met me when I came out, told me to move my car to an area where there were truckers sleeping that he knew were okay. This was around 1am at night. My seat went down to almost flat and he waited until I got settled and told me to sleep as long as I needed and that he’d come check on me later. I woke up around 4am and began to get ready to drive out. As I was pulling out of the spot I heard a short burst of his siren and there he was, waving and smiling good morning at me. When I was much younger, I had a very negative view of cops, but this guy single-handedly changed that around!
Lots of cops are angels, some can be bad but the majority are good hearted people who are tasked with enforcing the rules. They much rather deal with the experience you had then risk getting shot and not going home. I'm a 8 time felon so I've had lots of interactions with police and most of them still cared about me even if I made them show a side they don't like showing.
@@iqherrerayes and I know if I was a black dude he may have treated me completely differently. I was weaving but not drunk and didn’t have to prove it. I was sleepy. He escorted me to the truck stop. Who knows where’d he’d have “escorted” me if I wasn’t who I was. My eyes aren’t closed here, but I wanted to relay a good experience I had. Btw, I’ve had a couple bad experiences too with cops, but obviously nowhere close to the experience a certain category of people might have.
For me sleeping in a vehicle can be more comfortable than any apartment. If the neighbors are noisy you can simply park somewhere else. Can stay in many beautiful places. Can stay close to work to avoid traffic. Plus many other benefits.
My whole life I had to have some sort of sound going once I started sleeping in my car that changed. Once in awhile I might need my sound machine if I am at a truck stop but not likely
I was really surprised to learn that you're not only allowed but encouraged to sleep overnight at rest stops as long as you follow the guidelines. I was about to pass out from exhaustion after a weird couple days of lots of driving and ended up pulling into a rest stop. Even though it wasn't super comfortable since i had to use some jackets as a blanket and had no window covers I really really enjoyed it, kinda got me hooked
@@jujujupiter as a kid we always just did it in one drive, no stops except for gas/bathrooms even if it was 14 or 15 hours. I just don't have the money for gas and travel, so I guess yea. Also ever since I moved to the city I'm so used to everything having a 2 hour parking limit or charging outrageous amounts of money to park in the most inconvenient spots that the idea of being encouraged to park for several hours for free just off the freeway with amenities right nearby is a little baffling to me now lol.
@@charismabadu9644 no no some states will ticket you for tinted windows. Passing thru Iowa, got a warning. Ignored it, next time thru Iowa, they got me again. I think 180$. Just depends what state. I live in Indiana, but when in somebody else's state..... Hmmm, ya know what? I shoulda fought it😅.
I got harrassed by a cop for parking at a rest area in NJ. I was the only one at the stop, I had not been there 5 mins and was sitting upright when he pulled in and asked me what I was doing so I said I am resting. Then he says its not a campsite and starts asking over and over if I have a gun saying things like " it is dangerous around here how do you protect yourself?" Finally he tells me I have to leave so I say "okay, I thought I was too tired to drive but if you want me on the road I guess I will go." Then he says "never mind, you can take a nap here if you need to." If I had admitted to having a gun I may have done 2 years, New Jersey is insane.
@@MyPronounIsGoddess I travel a lot too and that's the only time I've ever had a problem at a rest stop. It was open but it was dark and no one else was there, it was just outside of New York City. My guess is there had been some crime issues there. I was also in a beat up pick up truck so a bit of profiling was probably going on.
As a mother of five boys who do crazy things I have to say, pull your vehicle further off the road you had plenty of room. Even if you have to pull on the grass a bit don't ever change a tire like that! Your poor mother 😢😢
Looks like 2 travel lanes, some king of mystery lane, and a breakdown lane. There is some kind of lane separating him from the travel lanes. I don't know what the lane is. A bike lane? Truck lane?
Yes! I've used mine twice in 6 years. One of them was at 3am when I discovered my battery was dead. That was in-town. Another was during the day, but i was out of state. Indeed a smart investment.
A hint. Always do a sleep parking, away from the restroom parking spots, that's where you are more certain to get "the knock" if there too long. Vacate those spaces after using restroom, move to a spot near the end of parking spots.
And what would the knock be for if its a rest stop. Truckers get to park overnight. They have trucker restaurants with showers and everything. Rest stop were made for families in the 50s!
@@retroredo9850 typically, at least along I-95, they have signs for 2 hour only parking, but if after midnight, typically no problem with any knock between then and dawn.
This isn’t simplicity. Far from it. Simplicity is an acre or more of land, a garden, a few things to breed for meat, and a well or other perpetual water source. Constantly having to figure out where you’re going, new security concerns, dumping your waste, different regulations and running into rando oddballs is actually very complex and will grind on your nerves.

Hey Arslan; I live in Denver and am glad that you are coming here. Denver, unfortunately, is not as safe as it used to be before C; car thefts are common place now. My rear passenger window was broken out - $300.00 to replace and the only thing taken was a $20.00 sunshade. Be safe.
@larrybailey3811, Colorado is beautiful!! But has really gone down the hole in the last 8 years in the same manner as California. Got to get a grassroots movement going and force those DAs out that are soft on crime. Sometimes they're funded by Soros and his "open society" activist group. He's a very old, psychotic billionaire and should not be meddling in American politics or negatively impacting our communities. It's a strange reality these days. If we don't stand up for our Constitution, it can't stand up for us.
I had my vehicle FULL as I was coming to Vegas from Utah for a 2 month show. I had a membership at the LVAC and the girl at the house I rented at told me that the homeowner told her that she gets the bathroom to her self. The homeowner insisted that I use the gym 1 mile from this house which is a HIGH CRIME AREA. No showers were allowed at that location because Maryland pkwy does not have any swimming pools and so I wandered around in the store looking at all the muscle building protein powders ( the last thing a violin player needs ) and then went back to my car and found that three of my windows were busted out including the rear passenger window and they got away with 350,000 in violins, accordions, ballroom dance dresses and shoes. That was the first time I listened to the homeowner which cost me 30 Grand in income and he told me for 3 2e3ks he would put plastic over the open windows... NEVER DID & EVERY DAY LIED TELLING ME HE WOULD TAKE ME TO MAKE A POLICE REPORT. NEVER DID. Then started stealing parts off my Suburban like the battery... & the 1st thing he told me was "THOSE TIRES BELONG ON MY TRUCK." In addition to: " No dont have your car towed to 5he dealer to get it fixed because he has a guy who does better job than the Chevy dealer" NEVER GAVE ME THE INFO. $79,000 SUBURBAN 90% covered in bird feces & tree sap. My feet broken by accident twice & his back adjustment crippled me. I am now completely handicapped and not even able to roll over in bed without EXCRUCIATING PAIN in addition to being in a wreck because he is constantly slamming his foot into the gas pedal without looking to see if there's a vehicle in front of us. And of course my neck is completely unable to hold my head without extreme muscle spasms and seizures. My days of walking 6 MI every single night and Hiking 100 miles a month or over. Getting my windows replaced was $1600 dollars.😢

I have been specifically told by cops that the best place to park is an empty parking lot by a busy road…directly under a street light. The people who cause trouble don’t want to get caught and tend to park in dark areas. Plus, parking under a light is an easy target to remember for cops patrolling the roads at night. If they check on you once, it will only be that one time so long as you don’t move your vehicle.
Are you kidding? Try that in my state and the first cop that drives by and sees your car all alone in the lot is coming to investigate. You park with three hundred other cars and blend in, not stand out.
I have a Envoy that I have camped in state park's with it. Where I live those sites you have to set up a tent. Being old I get to pay half price with a park pass. Free water and electric, showers and bathrooms.
There are a lot of states that phohibit "overnight parking" and/or have time limits like 3-4 hours. I find this is more common in the eastern half of the USA. Some states have Truck only rest areas and few made for cars. It's getting harder to find rest areas. You can sleep in . First it was Walmart banning overnight (because of town regulations) this lifestyle is slowly getting squashed
They're making it impossible to live in your vehicle unless you do it stealthily, which means parking in the most dangerous locations , living without things that would make your camping too obvious like ( generators, AC units, roof fans, solar panels, luggage racks, etc) . It's disgusting, because with the price of rent and homes now days, I considered doing car/van life as a way to save money, but the laws and parking regulations have ruined that option almost completely. Maintaining car/van life while also staying local to go to your job? Almost impossible.
People took advantage of being able to sleep in parking lots & started leaving garbage , overstaying & spreading out. You can thank them for losing that opportunity
@@cherylsmith4826 Nah it is most likely corrupt politicians and socialism that shows its ugly face as usual. NYC makes sure that homeless people freeze to death during winter so i aint surprised.
The powers that be don’t want the poor to have any alternative ways of affording life. They want them working at their minimum wage jobs and barely scraping rent together.
Just an add-on caution: If you're stopping for the night and gonna have a glass of wine or something DO make certain your keys are NOT in the ignition, even if just to have the A/C on. You CAN get cited for open container, or worse, if those keys are not OUT of the ignition while you have open alcohol going on. So if you have to have it on for the A/C, skip the vino.
This is true though. I know someone who was sleeping in a car in the back seat with the car running. They had been drinking so thought they could sleep it off. Got a dui.
My friends son got in his car after a baseball game. He had the car running while texting in the parking lot, instead of while driving. A cop pulls up and asks what he's doing. The 17 yr old kids tells him. The cop asks if he can search the car and the kid stupidly agrees. The cop found a roach clip with the end of a joint on it. Not even enough for a hit. Well the cop wrote him a ticket, had the vehicle towed to impound. After all this the boy asks why he did this to him and the cops answer was that he had the keys in the ignition and the car was running even though he was in private property it didn't matter. Same as if he were on the road. An expensive lesson to learn from a shit head cop that could have given this kid a warning. Now it's on his record as he turned 18 before his court date. So yeah, the cops in CT. are no better than Jersey.
Please, PLEASE, get yourself a high-viz, reflective safety vest, preferably the yellow/green one, for the next time you have a roadside emergency. Changing a tire is hazardous enough on the side of the road, but wearing dark colors was even worse. A mesh safety vest is inexpensive, packs down super small, and is literally a life-saver. You have such a nice rig and are doing so good. Please keep yourself safe so you can continue to fully enjoy life.
I always move over from the right lane when I spot a disabled vehicle. I drive really far "down the road" but if possible always pull over after a right bend in the highway but not RIGHT after the bend or on it.
Dude, you really need to get AAA! They’ll come out and change your tire, bring you a few gallons of gas or even tow your vehicle if it breaks down, and it costs less than $200/year. They have many different options to choose from so you only buy what you need. I wouldn’t travel without it and I love to travel! 😊
AAA is an amazing investment. I pay for Plus, which IIRC is about $100 a year, for 5 tows up to 100 miles each. Absolutely worth it in rural northwest Ohio.
Actually, you can add roadside insurance to your auto policy. It's much less expensive than AAA. If you have a major company like State Farm, it's really good roadside insurance.
A couple weeks ago my wife and I packed our dogs into our Kia EV9 and set off onto the road. We slept at rest stops just as you show here! It was the best vacation of our life. It was a great sample of van life and your channel is a wonderful point of reference and inspiration.

Instead of using up your water prepare a jug of 1/4 to 1/2 white vinegar to 1/2 to 3/4 water, whichever you prefer. You can clean off just about all dishes including pots and pans without even scrubbing. Barely rinse them off as the vinegar odor is light and will go away when dry. It kills bacteria too so you can wash down almost any thing, including any toilet set up.
Oh wow! Poor you with the flat. I drove from NY to AZ in my Vw golf with my Pitbull. We went through the Midwest going then i10 coming back bc of the weather. I slept in my car at TA travel centers and Loves. I felt safer there than I did in Albuquerque nm at a motel. Every time I drive cross country I grow so much as a person. Although, I’ll do it once more maybe, then I’m done bc there are a lot of sketchy places. I’m so thankful I didn’t get a flat. Carry flat fix with you. Safe travels and work.
Your van is beautifully crafted inside. You not only know what will look good and function well but you know how to craft it. To be honest, many van-life/car-life setups look junky and thrown together with overflowing plastic bins stuffed with stuff. I guess we all do the best we can with what we've got but yours looks first-rate.
just a tip for saving your water supply, get yourself a spray bottle and fill it with tap water wherever you can, travel center, even a fast food place, they usually don’t have an issue, also when shopping for supplies pick up a container of wipes, personally we prefer Clorox brand, they’re wetter and a bit soapy, you can wipe your dishes clean with the wipes, and rinse with the spray bottle of tap water, it saves your tank water, let’s face it, you don’t use a lot of dishes when you’re preparing your meal, so a spray bottle will last for a while, of course you can keep two bottles of tap water, you’ll have plenty for washing up your dishes, pots/pans and flatware, also great for rinsing your counter and cooking surfaces, we use the Clorox wipes for washing our hands then a quick spray of tap water to rinse, i was surprised how much use we get out of a decent size spray bottle
wow interesting, Carolyn... just let the dishes dry no need to wipe them down afterwards that just wastes a paper towel but I suppose cloth would work.
Get one of the small pump pressure sprayers like those used in the garden. Harbor Freight has them in small 1/2 gallon size for about $5.00. "0.5 gallon multipurpose sprayer" Item number: 56167
After my husband died, I decided to winter in FL, 848 miles from my home. I was acquainted with the sheriff of my home county and he made me promise that I wouldn't stay overnight at any rest area on my travels to FL. I guess he was concerned about an old lady traveling alone.
Yeah because there's a psychopath that's been going through the rest areas in the panhandle of Florida murdering people overnight sleeping and it's been happening for a long time
Depending on what interstate you take to get to Florida I can understand why the sheriff told you to not stay overnight anywhere, a lot of interstates are used by traffickers
Rest areas vary a lot from state-to-state, here in California they usually have a soda machine and toilets and maybe a map of the area and a place to drain the dog, but nothing fancy and only sometimes place for picnicking. Also both Oregon and California have rules against camping in rest areas, they don't mind if you snooze for a while to get rid of sleepiness but if it looks like you're trying to spend the night you might get the knock.
Back in the 80's I parked on an Oregon Beach with my British Columbia licence plates and slept while going north on the Pacific Coast Highway. The local cops approached me about 4 a.m.and checked out my parked car with me sleeping mindfully to the sounds of the waves. Then they just drove off and left me alone. Despite the cramped back seat I had one of the best sleeps of my life on that beach. Thank-you Oregon Police for leaving me alone.

Something else I’ve learned and put into practice driving the Amish. On hot days when I need to run the A/C while sitting and waiting all day for workday to be over, I was told to always open the hood while running the engine while just sitting somewhere. Even to run a strong fan so that it blows thru the engine to keep the hot air produced by the running engine from being trapped around the engine. The high temp. Is not good for all the plastic sensors and components and can cause them to fail prematurely. I’ve had ignition coils go bad while just sitting idling in the heat. Not that that additional heat was the primary cause but could have very well been the catalyst which sent it over the edge into failure. I’ve also warped and intake from excess heat and so all I’m saying is, it’s a good idea to open the hood to allow heat to better escape, and if possible run a high powered fan so that it’s blowing thru the engine and removing said heat. Just a few thoughts that may help.
Diesels don't care they have a LOT of engineered cooling but few people in USA have diesel vans. however one is avail for the Ford Transit. Diesels are also designed for long idling periods and use hardly NO fuel while idling compared to gassers. And lastly mileage is about 40% higher.
I’ve been driving for 20 plus years, I never had a car overheat n never needed to open my hood to keep my car cool. Are you talking about junky old cars? Cause I’m new cars u don’t need to do all that nonsense.
When driving across the country alone, I would usually stop at a convenience store and ask permission to catch a few hours sleep before moving on. I never had one turn me down.
What's cool about your pan is that it does not have any handle rivets inside the pan, which is the norm. Nice smooth seamless nonstick interior is so easy clean and sanitary. And the handle removes with a screw. So your pan could be made compact and put into a backpack and taken along hiking. A few sheets of foil will make do as a cover, and keep the weight light. Love your pan!
As we were driving 10 days cross country, we checked out the cheapest spots we could. I saw many signs at rest stops saying "no overnight stays" which made me wonder how helpful it would be to drive at night and sleep during the day at a rest stop. KOA varied $15- $65 depending on where you were. We managed two hotel stays for serious showers and rest. Tried a truck stop; too much noise and light (forgot to make window covers), We got a lot of those "are you homeless, or moving?" looks. (Moving) Also saw gas drop from 5.89 to 3.19. THAT was great!
😮😮My cousin was traveling across the country in his SUV for a new job. He slept during the day and traveled at night because he felt safer not being parked at night.
When my hubby and I travel we do it mostly at night because there's less traffic except for semis and they don't bother us. We can avoid big city traffic slowdowns with all those folks going to/from work or the usual smaller business trucks. When we do stop at a rest area or larger one with services and restaurants we take turns going to the bathrooms so we never leave our vehicle unattended for thieves to target us. We try to park under lights too. When I go to the loo I take my mace if it's only a rest stop with no.people around. If you're only taking a nap then put a card in your driver's window that says " 30 minute nap. Please do not disturb." Cops will leave you alone.
@@marthagaluszka8888 I was traveling with a male friend. We stopped at a deserted rest area to use the bathrooms. I got him to go with me to the women's room. Once made sure it was empty, I got him to wait inside with me. This is because a popular beach rest stop near me has an access door in the end stall into some kind of room. I think a female walked in while he was there, but we explained and he then waited outside. She probably felt safer, too. Truck stops are better for bathroom stops unless it's midday or crowded at the rest stop; then, rest stops are ok.

I once slept overnight at a rest area in Iowa. I had been on the road for 15 hours and I just couldn't drive anymore. I asked inside if it was okay and they said sure. I had a pillow and a blanket in the car and it was in early summer so it wasn't really hot or cold.
In Oregon, you have a 12 hr limit, Washington state, an 8 hr limit. I have never been pushed out by law enforcement either, at any of the rest stops when I have stayed past those limits in my work travels
Recently found your channel. I love watching your travels. What is the material of your window shades? Most rest areas in Tennessee are 2 hrs and they will boot you quick. Last July Tennessee made it a felony to sleep in public, so now most towns have made ordinances against it as well. I have lived in a minivan for over a year now because my home burned and I was the only survivor. I am an older woman, more scared of the cops than the street homeless and never get a good nights rest. So as I'm able I plan to rearrange and change up my van. Still have the seats, I just fold one side down. Plotting and planning for my real van life. 😊
Not to be a party pooper, but not all rest stops allow overnight or even extended stays. I too live in my car and have seen signs stating as low as 2 hour limits at rest stops as well as no overnight parking. Like you said, I don’t know that anyone is actually monitoring for this. When I was in doubt, I just ask the attendant (if there is one) and have been granted permission. No one has said no but with that said, I usually don’t push it if there is a sign limiting time, unless I am actually really tired and can’t find another spot and really need the sleep.
I owned a 1970 VW Westfalia Campermobile for many years and I traveled a lot. One night I pulled into a 'rest area' because I couldn't drive safely due to sleepiness. The next morning I was awakened by a police officer knocking on my windshield. I asked if there was a problem and he replied, "You can't camp here, you need to move on" !!! Can you believe it ??? Isn't that what 'rest areas' are for? To pull over and get a little rest in order to continue your safe journey ??? I thought that he was abusing his 'power' as a law officer. I had no intention of staying there longer than I needed. WTF?
Ordered things for car sleeping. My address is a po box. They sent them FedEx. FedEx does not deliver to po boxes. They slapped their own label on them and delivered them to an address I haven't lived at in nine years. One item was worth five hundred dollars. Only the honesty of the new owner did I get my property back. Loved the small fridge, but they would probably ship it FedEx.
You were lucky that this person was honest, it's a rare thing in the present world. In the future, have your packages shipped to a friend's house or another arrangement.@@shirleydelehanty3466
I love that this lifestyle has been working for Arslan. It's obviously not ideal, but this man's car is more homely than a lot of modern homes. It's charming. I would hate to cook in my car with very little space for prep though. Like just watching him cut the tomatoes makes me anxious lol.

Another important motorhome and camper van proposed future gadget is an electronic identification device......that is installed in van and automatically helps authority to identify you without knocking .This electronic device should act as Van Identification card.
As A Fellow Van Camper, I've been living full-time in my minivan. There's different rules on rest area overnight parking from 4 hour limits to 8 hour limits. It is best to take note of all the signs as you enter the rest area. If there's security in the rest area, ask them if its okay for you to stay and how long you may stay or be prepared to get the knock as they do down yonder in central Florida. As for me, rest areas are my last option.
I've actually had some of my better experiences in Florida. I've never been bothered in a rest area in Florida. You must have been very close to Disney World.
@juliestanssuju4811 I mainly stay in the panhandle, but when I visit folks around the Tampa Bay area, the rest area to the north at the 275 split will ask you to move along after 6 hours. I'll be in the panhandle for the winter. Safe Travels.
You're lucky to find so many rest areas that allow overnight parking. Here in FL, the RVers took so much advantage that overnight parking is not allowed in most of them. Happy travels!
I might do a car trip later this year to Florida to go to a wedding it's good to know that the rest areas don't allow it, I will just go to the cracker barrels instead.
@richardharmon647 - "overnight" is usually prohibited, but at least three hours is allowed. Most times, when I've needed a rest from the road and have gone over the three hour limit, I explain in just too exhausted to drive and often get an easy extension.

Love this guy. He’s the best. I, once upon a time lived in my van for almost three years and look forward to getting something like this, perhaps in a bit bigger vehicle. Solar powered. For a few years while working and finishing my degree in between, before building an off the grid home!
3:45 Next time drive off the shoulder. Or to the next exit. You drive a few miles very slowly on a flat tire, 2 to 3 miles an hour. I've had to do it. It's better to take a chance on ruining a wheel than losing your life.
Bro, to get more flavor, YOU MUST DO THIS: first "roast" those tomatoes in a little olive oil on fairly high heat. They will split and *caramelize*, become stronger and sweeter and unbelievable. Seriously, you'll you want to just eat them out of the skillet. Alternately, if you have a way to literally roast or broil, you can cook them that way. It's a game changer to roast any veggie and even fruits. Love, love, love your videos.
It’s not disgusting, so next time bite into that ball of mozzarella. Proud of you young man. Love that you’re taking all of us on this wonderful journey with you. God bless you. You remind me of my youngest son, adorable.
I just know when my dad passes away this will be my top 3 options. So I'm getting started now. I already want to travel and i cant see myself getting approved for an apartment with my finances much less a house. So. Im hoping to make this work. I also do just want to travel and i have friends all over the US so i know the pros will out way the cons to meet my friends ❤
Note: truck stops in the car part like loves, pilot, flying j, ta, petro are good places to sleep too. They won't mess with you and you can pay to take a shower if you don't wanna go across town to planet fitness for one reason or another.
True. But I was at a Loves in a very rural part of Virginia and they posted many one hour time limit signs. However I don’t think it gets enforced unless if the person is causing a problem
I’m with you man about sleeping in your car I like how you got it all hooked up very nice you don’t have to pay no rent utilities live in this earth free like you’re supposed to be
I feel a safe place to sleep in your car is in a hospital parking lot! I've had to nap in one a couple times & didn't need to spend the whole night but would have felt safe doing so. Of note, I am referring to a free hospital parking lot lol.
larger city ones ever better, when i came in early morning, there were always folks sleeping in their vehicles. some even had big dogs that bark at you. lol
The ONE time I stopped at a rest stop to sleep, a police car pulled up behind me and ran my license plate. Another thing, don't be the only one at a rest stop. Once I did that, a person came out of the bushes and asked me for a ride. Scared the #$%^ out of me! Luckily a family in a station wagon pulled in, and I was able to end the conversation.
I was so shocked he would stay there changing that tire. So dangerous. I hope he reads your comment.
In some states there are time limits on how long you can stop at. Rest stops. This is because people living out of their cars and trucks having camping out in the rest stops.
And those states you will not be encouraged to sleep there. But if you stop in the middle of the night and catch a few hours sleep That's what the rest stops are for.
💯 a fireman for Houston has said this too...he has picked up many body parts of the side of the freeway too many times.
You have any idea how dangerous it is to park and sleep at a rest area!!!
@@robertpolicastro1 I've slept at rest stops many times when I was too tired to drive. I had absolutely no problems.
It is a scam as the hospital get a small amount and the Board members are directors of the parking company and get directors fees .😊
sadly if more and more homeless people did this now there would be less parking for people arriving for family emergencies, so in a pinch this is a good idea, but not really.
all hospitals here have paid parking :(
@@imbeautiful9305Homeless?? Thats a bit judgemental.
If I am sleeping in my car, that is my home. I sleep in my car because I want to explore, it doesnt mean I am homeless. My car is my "vacation home" and my house is paid for. Its my choice where I sleep...I believe in FREEDOM.
You could learn a lot from being "homeless" you should try it. 👍
That said, most hospjtals make you pay to park, but this is a great idea....then, go visit someone inside, make them smile, use their shower. Win-win.
Wow that was a good experience, the way he helped you!
Yes, we know some play good cop
But we also know some play bad cop… definitely 😢
@@iqherrerayes and I know if I was a black dude he may have treated me completely differently. I was weaving but not drunk and didn’t have to prove it. I was sleepy. He escorted me to the truck stop. Who knows where’d he’d have “escorted” me if I wasn’t who I was. My eyes aren’t closed here, but I wanted to relay a good experience I had. Btw, I’ve had a couple bad experiences too with cops, but obviously nowhere close to the experience a certain category of people might have.
The truth is, most are pros. The problem is, none of them go out of their way to hold the dangerous ones accountable.
For me sleeping in a vehicle can be more comfortable than any apartment. If the neighbors are noisy you can simply park somewhere else. Can stay in many beautiful places. Can stay close to work to avoid traffic. Plus many other benefits.
Except for some one trying to burglarize your vehicle... 😢
So true ! It definitely can keep you motivated for the next working day if you park near your job! 💯
You can always get your windows tinted , too! It’s pretty cool! 😊
Are you a novice at road trips?
@@jujujupiter as a kid we always just did it in one drive, no stops except for gas/bathrooms even if it was 14 or 15 hours. I just don't have the money for gas and travel, so I guess yea. Also ever since I moved to the city I'm so used to everything having a 2 hour parking limit or charging outrageous amounts of money to park in the most inconvenient spots that the idea of being encouraged to park for several hours for free just off the freeway with amenities right nearby is a little baffling to me now lol.

A hint. Always do a sleep parking, away from the restroom parking spots, that's where you are more certain to get "the knock" if there too long. Vacate those spaces after using restroom, move to a spot near the end of parking spots.

Can you park in empty lots of stores or is that trespassing

I always move over from the right lane when I spot a disabled vehicle. I drive really far "down the road" but if possible always pull over after a right bend in the highway but not RIGHT after the bend or on it.
Or...carry a can off fix-a-flat.
That's great advice except for the people who can't afford it. I could personally afford it so I would probably follow your advice.
I've had AAA all my driving life, and I'm 74 now. I wouldn't go anywhere without it.
AAA is an amazing investment. I pay for Plus, which IIRC is about $100 a year, for 5 tows up to 100 miles each. Absolutely worth it in rural northwest Ohio.
It’s actually 100 a year!!
Actually, you can add roadside insurance to your auto policy. It's much less expensive than AAA. If you have a major company like State Farm, it's really good roadside insurance.
Let's be honest, you are about 90% on the way to making this a food channel 😂 love it!

Vinegar doesn’t disinfect. You’ll need hydrogen peroxide for that. Try a spray bottle to use less.
@@stellaxingguang Yes, vinegar is not a disinfectant, rather is it a slightly acidic NON TOXIC cleaner.
Such GREAT ADVICE✅✅✅!!!
wow interesting, Carolyn... just let the dishes dry no need to wipe them down afterwards that just wastes a paper towel but I suppose cloth would work.
Using white vinegar and water works well also. In spray bottles. Has so many uses.
Get one of the small pump pressure sprayers like those used in the garden. Harbor Freight has them in small 1/2 gallon size for about $5.00. "0.5 gallon multipurpose sprayer" Item number: 56167
@@rockymntain that’s a great idea, thanks🙏
After my husband died, I decided to winter in FL, 848 miles from my home. I was acquainted with the sheriff of my home county and he made me promise that I wouldn't stay overnight at any rest area on my travels to FL. I guess he was concerned about an old lady traveling alone.
Yeah because there's a psychopath that's been going through the rest areas in the panhandle of Florida murdering people overnight sleeping and it's been happening for a long time
Sleep during the day and drive by night. use window covers. Nobody is gonna bother you during the day at a rest area.
@@leecowell8165it's definitely an option. Maybe not the most preferable one but it's still an option!
A silly rule
Back in the 80's I parked on an Oregon Beach with my British Columbia licence plates and slept while going north on the Pacific Coast Highway. The local cops approached me about 4 a.m.and checked out my parked car with me sleeping mindfully to the sounds of the waves. Then they just drove off and left me alone. Despite the cramped back seat I had one of the best sleeps of my life on that beach. Thank-you Oregon Police for leaving me alone.
Travthru Idaho recently which has no rest stops. Long stretches where you can't get off the highway. Never plan to travel thru Idaho again. Absolutely hated it.
@@peggyclause8847 I don't care for it either.
Guess California & Oregon would rather have you driving sleepy than staying overnight.🤷
So hilarious. After the clip of you changing the tire on the highway, a commercial came on that started out by asking, "Do you need a will?". Lol

You have a very positive attitude... NEVER LOSE THAT!!
If you sleep daytime you need window cover that would alert the LEO BUT you're NOT staying "overnight" are you so you ain't busting any stupid rules.

@@toaster5666a felony to sleep in public?!!! What is the world coming to? No freedom to do anything anymore it seems.
We have to pay to stay overnight in most service stations in the UK, there’s usually only a 2 hour parking limit for free parking.

WTF?
Probably hotel chains in the area lobby against that kind of thing. Either that or they're worried about them becoming a place for drugs/prostitution.

Also, not all rest areas are created equal. Some aren't as safe as others imo . 😕
