Only note is the AC and charging power in a hybrid does runoff the 12v battery not the hybrid, but when that runs out the hybrid battery starts the car which then charges the 12v battery. Which does use some gas. Obviously much less than a typical car since it's not running all the time! I was really confused about this and spent some time researching haha. Happy hybrid traveling!
NOPE... Sorry to correct your thinking... The Prius AC does run strictly off only the hybrid battery pack and not the 12 volt... The 12 volt only handles the fan that blows the air... Also, being there is NO Alternator nor Starter in a Prius, ALL charging and starts are provided by the hybrid system only.... The 12 volt only handles accessories & the computers.. Enjoy a Peaceful Day ;)

I also had a thunderstorm take power out from Wednesday till Monday morning: and I slept in the Prius because it was so humid and hot in the summer in Michigan…. Yeah I was comfortable in my air-conditioned Prius all night
I'm convinced. I've lived in VWs, Econolines-(great!), AEROSTAR (great-fun) and my present ASTRO (love)...All good, but gas is pricey. I want to tour from Vancouver to Panama. Prius seems the best. Travel easy and far for nothing. Can't wait. Maybe get a small cargo box.

I lived out of a dodge avenger before, there was 2 of us living in there. but itll be just me in the prius so im excited to have all the room and can make an actual little bed and everything. I have been debating on whether or not to get like an extra chargeable power supply because I am in online college and I will probably be on my laptop majority of the time I am not at work. and of course keeping my phone charged is important to me.
Nice, cheap and simple, I like your setup. I would probably get a small picnic table and chair with it to make it easier to prepare food and eat, or maybe some sort of a roll out table from the trunk where your backpacks are, but other than that, I would probably follow your setup, esp. the pantry opening system is really well thought and organized.
I'd also need my bike, a toilet, and a large tent with screen or rainproof walls to hang out in when I wasn't hiking, biking or climbing. Already have the mondo thermarest and concur it's very comfy.

Still renting but sick of paying & do miss adventuring/exploring. I’m reaching out to other ppl who live in their vehicles & asking friends for potential overnight parking/stay in vehicle spaces. Great way to go, exactly what I have in mind. Obviously the main inconvenience is toilet & shower, perhaps more of a challenge during these pandemic days.
It's true, a lot of the convenient places I would stop to use a bathroom are now closed, and I often shower at gyms, some of which are also closed. However I've been spending the summer in Lander Wyoming, and there's almost no cases here, so things are pretty much back to normal 👍👍👍
I got some ideas out if your video. I have to fit a mobility scooter in my car which I have ideas for. Instead of a car pod top I can cover the bottom of the boot with wood and, store those items in. Thank you
I actually have noooo idea because a year later I removed the seats and bins entirely and build a proper storage/bed frame in the back. I’ll post a video soon. But my recommendations is to lay your seats down, tape measure the height, and keep in mind you can always stack some wood underneath the bin to raise it up to proper height.
The seats in the Prius kinda go all the way back so you can lay down comfortably and the seats in the back lay completely flat for comfortable lay down room . He’s on point

Sorry I thought I responded to this!!! I laid newspaper against the windows and traced the shape of the glass with a sharpie and then used the newspaper as a template to cut the reflectix. I suggest to air on the side of leaving them too big during the first cut because you can always cut more off but ya can't put it back on haha

i was surprised you didn't have a 12v mini-compressor fridge/freezer.. or maybe you have one and i missed it or you didn't talk about it? I think that has got to be one of the top things to have for the quality of life when car camping. and within the last year or so.. they have gotten much cheaper and better.
GREAT observation. It's been over a year since I made this video and since then I have bought a solar panel, and solar generator, and an iceco 40l 12v fridge. I have also installed a kitchen cabinet in the trunk, with a stove and 7 gallon water jug. I also removed the back seats. I'll be releasing an updated Prius tour soon 😁😁😁
@@Nev4 it just occurred tome that perhaps there are certain places in which a water bladder bag could be placed perhaps inside rear door panels or other places.. or even perhaps somewhere around the engine compartment to place water or to store some extra water within the outer shell/skin of the Prius..which would give more space inside to passenger compartment while at the same time preserving the stealth appearance of the Prius. Also, a small safe could be placed in the engine compartment area, instead of or in addition to one kept inside the car. . . Or a safe could be placed inside the door cavity or stealthily attached somewhere around inside wheel well painted over with a matt black or with that special paint usually applied to under wheel well to match the rest of the wheel well and perhaps have to dirt applied to it to disguise it?. I know many people worry about putting expensive things in their car when camping .. which is understandable.. Now that i think about it.. .. hmmm

Reviews seem mixed on this mattress. Some ppl swear by it, others complain of punctures. But I've not read anyone dissing the comfort. My understanding is that it's part padding, part self-inflating, so even if it does puncture, while you won't be as comfortable, you won't be flat on the ground either. Also I've heard that it can be patched effectively with a tire patch kit (which most car campers carry anyway)
Better than his black felt is black velvet..... it eats light. His curtain could be better. Instead of creating a channel for the rod at the top. Make the channel about 8" below the top. When you mount the cloth to the cross rod, you will have that extra cloth above the rod filling in that gap. He also has a 2010 Prius. Not the best year. It was a new version. It had some problems that were fixed in later years.
If you had a bit more money, would you consider a larger Toyota hybrid like a RAV4 or a highlander? I have my eye on a 2020 or 2021 highlander hybrid limited since it also has a. 110 1500 watt outlet. I’m older, retired and need a bit more space and better ground clearance than a Prius.
If I had enough money I'd do a proper sprinter van all day. Until I have that much, sticking with the Prius. For space, consider a roof rack. For clearance, that surprisingly hasn't really been an issue for me. I also have upgraded my system, I have a jackery 500 battery bank powered by a solar panel on the roof. I now have a proper outlet and lots of usb ports

Roof rack do not take a lot of gas. Just say you didn't use that. I traveller's the same say like you and it was awesome. Now I am adding the roof box to the it more clean and spacious inside in case you need company;)
Reviews are mixed on this and Toyota actually says you will lose in fuel economy is you do this so can't blame a guy for listening to the manufacturer. My concern is more with height clearances. Yes I realise the Prius is pretty low to the ground but there are plenty of low clearance parking lots out there as well as low slung branches over dirt roads. Pros and cons
Nice setup! Where do you park when you’re ready to go to sleep? Rest stop? Also, how did you get the reflectix to stay in place in all the windows and back trunk?
I sleep in hotel parking lots, rest stops, Walmarts, best buys, friends house, city parks, etc. the reflectix in the side windows stayed unsupported for a long time but eventually got too soft and now I use magnets. In the back I used a few dowel rods to make a grid pattern and tht holds great!
I'm planning to do this across the states but I'm buying used and hopefully only 130k miles. How many miles did you start your out with? And year. And make more on it you only have 1 video😐
Most important thing is to get a sleeping set up that you can tolerate. Since it’s only one summer, you don’t need to do anything super crazy to your car. Summer is great, not as cold at night, you can sleep with the windows cracked to avoid crazy condensation, you can download apps like ioverlander to help get you started with finding places to fill up water and park at night, although I never use the app anymore because it’s just second nature. Final piece of advice, you don’t need a perfect plan in place before you start. Just start and you’ll figure it out! Cheers!
@@Nev4 I’ve got a pretty good sleeping situation.. and I just found out that all four seats Fold flat… that’s a game change for me. I’m 6ft 2in plus. The ac doesn’t work well and may cost as much as 800$ to replace the expansion valve. So that’s why I’m thinking the Rocky Mountains is a good choice.. if It’s too hot.. I just go up.

I actually did use a roof rack at one point, albeit it was a "soft cargo" box. But my engine had to work so much harder on highways.
Reviews are mixed on this and Toyota actually says you will lose in fuel economy is you do this so can't blame a guy for listening to the manufacturer.
My concern is more with height clearances. Yes I realise the Prius is pretty low to the ground but there are plenty of low clearance parking lots out there as well as low slung branches over dirt roads.

Also, how did you get the reflectix to stay in place in all the windows and back trunk?
I sleep in hotel parking lots, rest stops, Walmarts, best buys, friends house, city parks, etc. the reflectix in the side windows stayed unsupported for a long time but eventually got too soft and now I use magnets.
In the back I used a few dowel rods to make a grid pattern and tht holds great!
I'm planning to do this across the states but I'm buying used and hopefully only 130k miles. How many miles did you start your out with? And year. And make more on it you only have 1 video😐

Most important thing is to get a sleeping set up that you can tolerate. Since it’s only one summer, you don’t need to do anything super crazy to your car. Summer is great, not as cold at night, you can sleep with the windows cracked to avoid crazy condensation, you can download apps like ioverlander to help get you started with finding places to fill up water and park at night, although I never use the app anymore because it’s just second nature. Final piece of advice, you don’t need a perfect plan in place before you start. Just start and you’ll figure it out! Cheers!

I’m 6ft 2in plus.
The ac doesn’t work well and may cost as much as 800$ to replace the expansion valve. So that’s why I’m thinking the Rocky Mountains is a good choice.. if
