"If you see a album and it has a white dude thats wearing a cape and holding a knife to a pig and the pigs holding the hand of a little black kid buy that album"
+Bradford Thornton I don't doubt it bro it just makes me laugh how crazy it sounds...but every time I go to the record store now I'm looking for some type of crazy cover now lol
I love this guy ! .. I liked the part where he talked about the link between European film composers and soul music , I'd always wondered If there was really a link ( I'm young) or I was just tripping. Also, he was super knowledgeable about music in general, it was super funny the part where he explained how to choose a record based on the race or age of the guys and all that stuff, hahaha
I learned alot from this video , I'm a fellow hip hop producer who was mainly sampled based and started getting into compostions for a couple months due to my sample sources so I can def relate. Thanks for all the gems !!
ADRIAN UR THE MAN, I LOVE CRATE DIGGERS! I'VE BEEN DIGGING FOR A LONG TIME NOW I DIG TO FIND STUFF I'VE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD BEFORE. I JUST LOVE MUSIC AND I LOVE DIG STORIES FROM OTHERS WHO TRULY LOVE THE ART.... NEVER STOP DIGGIN'......
I love the rational of this guy. If you see the black, white & Asian guy on a record together back in the 60's or 70's then you've got to buy it. It sounds glib, but what he's really saying is that those guys had to step outside of the very prescribed racial genres that the music industry imposed upon artists back then and do something different.
alex green No, hes bot really saying that at all, no need to turn it into a liberal preach. Hes just pointing out that its more unlikely for different races of people to be featured on albums together, which may hint at something more specific in the music.
I didn't realize until after watching this video that I had the same guidelines when it came to my albums. All the albums in my collection have a purpose.
Is there anybody else watching these videos at 0,25 speed, over and over again, frame for frame, desperately trying to catch a glimpse of titles and artists, making notes?
Love the series, like others, Preemo, Madlib, Large Pro, all would be dope, but everyone you have seemed to grab have awesome stories, and I'm appreciative of all the work you have put into the series. This is clearly the best thing on Fuse, the other series that the channel uploads I'm not too fond of, but this is what the culture needs.
I'm not sure that his personal record collection is for sale, he never specifically sadi that it is, he only said that he combined his collection with that other guy's. I don't think that he would sell a gift like that, plus it's pretty rare, Jack DeJohnette is a terrific drummer.
he did specifically say that he kept his personal collection under that table, sounds like he keeps them based on how he talks about playing his own records in the store
The experience of watching the vid was different than crate diggiin. I looked at him and was like who the hell his he. Then I realized he was from wax poetic. And I listened to the interesting things he had to say. He was off the wall, literally. A total trip and into more of the obscure stuff that I was always into even though his knowledge of the Wu was so deep. This is my guy for sure. I love all of these guys, but this guy is the one you want to talk to about all genres-maybe Jaz Jay
Which is just an indicator of how rare some records are, if it's not on youtube, it's really rare, because if you think about it, that would mean that no one that has ever uploaded music to youtube doesn't have a copy and can't upload it. I just saw that it goes for 50 dollars mint and a 100 dollars sealed.
Yes it is I just heard it and brought me to tears because it was that beautiful. I cried because there ain't many people who write songs from their imagination get a premade beat sample this and that and have some person who thinks they're a singer or rapper on the track and somehow get an award for song of the year by not really working hard on their CON-position. Sorry... composition.
LOL at the ending, that totally happened to me last time I looked through some vinyl at the Goodwill store near where I work. There were like 8 copies of the same Christmas album.
DOPE EPISODE! My guy who actually owns a record spot showed me that Bo Hansson joint about 3 years ago and needless to say it ended up in my record bag. I wanna go digging so bad right now.
HEY, BROTHER, YOU ARE A STRAIGHT GENIUS IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS. I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOU PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS. I HAVE BOTH OF THE RECORDS YOU MADE "OMG". THANKS, I WISH YOU THE BEST ON YOUR JOURNEY TOWARDS YOUR SUCCESS. HOW WAS THAT EXPERIENCE MEETING THE I MEAN "RZA" HE IS FROM ANOTHER PLANET TO WHAT HE DID IN HIP HOP WAND WITH THE WU CLAN WOW WOW. YOU ARE SO CLOSE TO RZA ON THE PRODUCTION TIP PEACH AND AGAIN THANKS
wow, this guy is the real deal. super enjoyable. this is like the guide to record shopping. lotta rules in there. white dude, black guy, asian guy? BUY THE RECORD!
yo I'll always have love for my DJ noise who taught me about digging in the crates and took me from shop to shop splaining this hip hop back to the park shit and one love to his brothers Corey and Obi ( the original Wayans brothers from Chicago)
Hi Adrian, Not sure if you read comments on TH-cam. I really like your video, you are obviously very sharp musicologist & film soundtrack , your comments on mining the old wax for brilliant cover tunes, slick arrangements, etc. I've been crate digging since 1970's, mostly jazz, Latin, soul, early calypso & rocksteady, ska, film music, exotica and especially bossa nova(I've got 350 bossa LPs). My crate digging is to buy a record in almost any condition. I'm hip to rare thrift shops that still have LPs for 10-cent and 25-cents. If it's good, it goes on my list of trading up to better condition.
Part 2 : I kinda laughed when you said that if you find a few Christmas records in a row you are outta there. I stick with it, especially if the bins are all easy listening stuff. That's where I end up finding a very rare Sergio Mendes record, or Esquivel, or Miles Davis. I notice this while crate digging, especially at funky swap meets. The diggers who are only looking for the rarest Beatles, early Stevie Wonder, etc. they usually look quickly thru one crate and notice it's mostly easy listening crap. Then they split. That's great for me. There are 12 other crates there and they are from 12 different storage sales, so their dig through only one crate gave them a false impression. On one if those days I found 3 sealed copies of Beatsville, a rare beatnik era music & spoken word record.
Went to high school with Adrian. He had turntables in his bedroom back then. I’m really happy to see how he has became a legend.
I’m getting so many great albums from these crate digging videos ❤
I’m kinda using these to see what is being used and to find that which is not ..
Judge a record by it's cover!
@Joseph DeMato foreal has anyone figured this album?
This dude is low key the most slept on producer from hip hop.
The Midnight Hour is an amazing group
This man is a genius. We need more Adrian Younge's in this world.
He's teaching me a lot about music. Very knowledgeable
Tina Yandell how are you?
blues pills
Check out his Ameoba "What's in my bag" awesome stuff
"If you see a black dude and Asian dude and a white dude, you gotta get the record..." That is sheer genius!
Such a beautiful thing to see people want to make music just for people to sample! And what a rad dude
I love this guy ! .. I liked the part where he talked about the link between European film composers and soul music , I'd always wondered If there was really a link ( I'm young) or I was just tripping.
Also, he was super knowledgeable about music in general, it was super funny the part where he explained how to choose a record based on the race or age of the guys and all that stuff, hahaha
this series makes the record nerd in me smile.
this is one of the best episodes yet
I learned alot from this video , I'm a fellow hip hop producer who was mainly sampled based and started getting into compostions for a couple months due to my sample sources so I can def relate. Thanks for all the gems !!
That last line got me. He said if he digs at a thrift store and there is 5 Christmas albums I'M OUT! FACTS!!!!
I’m loving them 50 cent records.
So much hidden sounds tucked away.
Big Fan of This Series!!! Never Stop, Keep Vinyl Alive!
Somebody out there needs to start an online community so people with this same love for digging can come together.
Love that crate diggin' series. The right thing for all the music-junkies like us.
This is the best episode of Crate Diggers by far. Laughing out loud.
Love this guy. Saw him on What’s in my bag and could listen to him and Questlove talk records all day.
You can add Madlib, I think.
my favorite Crate Diggers yet. Adrian Younge = Dope
I love the rational of this guy. If you see the black, white & Asian guy on a record together back in the 60's or 70's then you've got to buy it. Hero.
Got to know him quite late, 'bout 2 years ago i think, but his music blew me away…That was the stuff I was looking for!
haha i got that Bo Hansson, and yeah. its 30 minutes of pure dopeness
I love these Crate Diggers junkas.I could watch them for hours...
We need a Madlib episode! Dopest series out!
One of my favorite crate diggers episodes so far.
Aaaaarrrggg!! Thats it! I'm on my way to the local thrift store so get some vinyl!!!
right
I love hitting vinyl shops for records
This store a has great selection, was there today.
Besides being a vinyl collector, I see Adrian is also a vintage Polo collector from the pieces he is rockin'.
Moral of the video: Judge an album by its cover & you'll never fail with ill drum breaks!
This is how I’ve found some of the greatest gems ever. My first lp I bought was based off of cover and it was the most amazing album I get bought
I've watched every episode in the Crate Digger series. ALL of them are dope but this dude dropped the most jewels on diggin' I've ever heard.
Wish this was an hour long, so good
Adrian Younger and Bilal album=CLASSIC
I wanna see Adrian Younge & Andre 3000 in the studio recording together ... 😎😎😎
By Far The Most Dope Crate Diggers Episode(besides Lord finesse N Dj ... he drops lots of wisdom and knowledge...changed my whole perspective...
Crate diggin is a art, Vinyl is pure culture, peace...
Man, knowing that this guy worked on the soundtrack for Black Dynamite and made it so awesome. dope
Love the series, like others, Preemo, Madlib, Large Pro, all would be dope, but everyone you have seemed to grab have awesome stories, and I'm appreciative of all the work you have put into the series. Alrite now, Just saw the Gladys Knight & The Pips "Everybody Needs Love". Grew up on that album 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Big fucking props on the Bo Hansson shout out. One of Sweden's proudest musical mad men!
Got put onto him through the BD soundtrack and he is illest, nice pick for the series
lollll "I really took it to heart when he gave this record to me"........but now its for sale in the store and can be yours for only $99.99.
that's probably just another copy
Kyle Donaldson thats what I thought haha he sells all the records wtf taking it to heart
I'm not sure that his personal record collection is for sale, he never specifically sadi that it is, he only said that he combined his collection with that other guy's. I don't think that he would sell a gift like that, plus it's pretty rare, Jack DeJohnette is a terrific drummer.

My favorite Crate Diggers episode
Wow! Can't believe he pulled out Bo Hansson!!
Check the duo Hansson & Karlsson for more on this dude.
They used to jam with Jimi Hendrix in the 60's
1:45 just casually flipping through Leon Haywood and RAMP
Those 19 people that down voted this , have no idea about hip hop music .
I want to see Havok on here,
Wow he is really taking me to school right now!!!
The experience of watching the vid was different than crate diggiin. I looked at him and was like who the hell his he. Then I realized he was from wax poetic. My guy who actually owns a record spot showed me that Bo Hansson joint about 3 years ago and needless to say it ended up in my record bag.
I wanna go digging so bad right now.
would love to see Questlove or DJ Premier's collection in this series.
I love Adrian's list of horrible things a human can do.
1. Murder
2. Father not taking care of his child
3. Stealing a guy's records.
Painful for me to see 'Pieces of a Man' (by Gil Scott-Heron) in the background constantly. Can't find it anywhere.
I would love to see Questlove's Collection. one of the greatest minds in music.
LA to SF... definitely a 5 hour drive...
Gave me Hella new shit to listen to n it was dope 💯

So Funny! Keep watching over and over and learn new things!
yo I'll always have love for my DJ noise who taught me about digging in the crates and took me from shop to shop splaining this hip hop back to the park shit and one love to his brothers Corey and Obi ( the original Wayans brothers from Chicago)

definition of a cool dude.
after laughter, blew my mind too
nice one Adrian - I'm digging that Sweat Band joint on the wall......
Didn't even think about that. That would be pretty sick.
I like his way of digging but as for him keeping only Jems and not all kinds of records is crazy because someone's junk is another person treasure
You dog on right I'll take a 50cent record. Those are the ones ppl sleep on. You neva know what you'll find
great series! keep up the good work!
GO ADRIAN. U PUT THE INTERRACIAL COUPLE ON THE COVER OF THAT ALBUM.... SALUTE, THAT IS MOST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!
Is this video about RZA and the wu-tang clan? I'm confused about the title, and this other guy...
A very special episode is next: J Dilla's Record Collection

Straight GEMS!
THE HANSON RECORD IS JUST A COOL RECORD TO LISTEN TO. AND IT TAKES UR IMAGINATION TO PLACES LIKE ADRIAN DESCRIBES ON THAT PARTICULAR PIECE.
