His last comment is so true. When I pirate music I don't give it enough of a chance. It's so easy to get millions of songs, and you end up just skipping through your music like a speed demon, without giving it proper appreciation. But when you buy vinyl you feel more compelled to listen through the whole LP, rather than just 1 or 2 songs. And you're not just buying music, you're buying art that you can put on display. Digital music is convenient (and awesome), but it can't live up to physical media.
+kendo512 GLK knows and appreciates music and your description of his comment is something that I did missed in the interview, so I appreciate it that you brought it up because is simply "brilliant".
regarding his last comment I remember the first CD I was given and the first Vinyl that I bought, I have no recollection of the first MP3 that I downloaded.
Hey William, I remember you coming to our club in San Diego @ 12 with long ass dreds . . . I was always so impressed how you stayed in the moment and inspired all that were around you . . . Good to see you living your vision . . . Until we meet again . . .
FINALLY! A GOOD EPISODE WHERE HE ACTUALLY PUT THE VIEWERS ON TO SOME TRUE GEMS. THATS WHY I WATCH THIS - TO DISCOVER NEW MUSIC TO LISTEN TO!!! THANKS GLK!!!
Theo Dutra I don't know man... I am a fan of both but they are on completely different pages. GLK is into old school grooves and Buckethead is a guitar wizard. don't see how they'd mesh.
he already used buckethead on his We Make It Good mix, plus buckethead has so much stuff he’s made based around scratching that it’s not too far of a stretch
One of my fav videos on YT. Got me into this guy's carzy mixes and planted the seed for me getting into obscure/instrumental/beat music and DJing myself.
What a musician is SUPPOSED to be like. True inspiration. So sick of these people that pick up dj sets and hit the play button mindlessly and call themselves an artist. No background, no history, minimal love. Hope people start djing and producing for the love. Not the fame or money. BTW glk experience is tomorrow in Los Angeles! Free event but donations are encouraged to pay for GLK's medical bills.
honestly not the biggest fan of his music which didn't apply to me at all but watching this, seeing him act and talk and sensing a kind of obsession lying within hin does help to see where he's coming from in what he does musically... more than in any other episode of this series so far
Peeped that La Planet Sauvage. Love that record. Overall, I love this series because you just see how passionate these guys are about the music they enjoy and almost every single one of them seem very open minded about life in general.
I so luv GLK's energy at all times. He is might actually be a bigger Dilla-Head than myself. Nah... But, if that's Dilla's moog he has in his setup, he wins. LOL. Crate Diggers is really becoming an all time fav on the tube for me. Once they get Madlib's, I'll be a happy man. Peace...
I'm sure, that the world would be a lot more joyous, if everybody had something to be so positively passionate about, as this guy is about music! Goosebumps, hehe.
bruh those library records are so hard to come by i have alot on digital. but i need them on vinyl i have about 5000 vinyl right now i wont by anymore until i am able to get my own house.
I'm really enjoying this series! Love all these music heads!!! & I'm getting great ideas of how everyone catalogs the collections... my place is a MESS!!!
Great interview. Some of the best songs I have heard from this D.J.Producer are "Nissim", "Zalim", "In the Dark", "Dead Vets", "Flange Face" and a beautiful adaptation of a movie in "Shattering Inner Journeys"; all of them in You Tube.
Lol, I sold him that Lucio Battisti lp many years ago, I found it at the Cow in PB. I was really into Italian prog, and Library joints before he was, and I remember playing Will his first library record, it was the Hardhitter Lp on Dewolfe, he couldn't get over the fact that it was all drums...lol, he was so fun to dig with too!
Good stuff. I dont listen to much hip hop these days but i recently had my own " sample brain explosion" moment. I recently purchased Jr Walker. And the All Stars " Shotgun" LP amdcouldnt beleive how familiar it sounded. Apparently Muggs sampled it pretty heavy with House Of Pain. Even the Cosbys used it on the show intro.
The best crate diggers episode was with Rich Medina. Now, all of a sudden every guy(with all respect is showing to public his records) because they got a couple of tousends? shittt He, amongst we collectors and music lovers like to keep it real. The Last moments of this video of him talkin about Dilla was so real to me, cause that is what every Hip Hop Head thinks about From Time to Time, Peace
"I got into Wu Tang" is the best opening to any interview on any subject.
i thought the same exact thing when i clicked this video
true
Bro foreal. The ripple effect is still felt to this day.
@@sk69to96 and to this day too.
I thought the same thing
The records he mentioned:
Les Mogol - Danses Et Rythems
Mario Molino - Fonit Library Record
Lucio Battisti - Il Nostro Cara Angelo
Klaus Weiss - Time Signals
Steve Halpern - Christening for Listening
The Feed-back - Ennio Morricone
Tullio de Piscopo - Suonando La Batteria Moderna
(sorry if spelling is bad)
sheff89 Thank you you beautiful person
The two records he shows behind Les Mogol:
Kalyanji-Anandji - Dharmatma
The Lijadu Sisters - Danger
His passion for music is infectious. He could make me love an album without even listening to it.

Very true, but rare vinyl is so fucking expensive!
kendo512 Well that's the challenge for music now and the listener.
Too
kendo512 so true man you took the words from my mouth and mind
Awesome that he gives credit to the people who put him onto his fave records. Class!
I think its even more awesome that the la beat scene is blowing up so much
Jered Reid Yeah, most definitely. I thank Flylo for spearheading that whole movement.
NephirKore oh most def
O Kop
5:41 edan's beauty and the beat is shown. an under-appreciated hip-hop classic...
Truly awesome album, especially if you like hip hop AND psych rock...
dammnnn thank you for reminding me of this one
You can sense his insanity mixed with inspiration when he molds you to his craft. True sign of a genius. He IS GENIUS.
regarding his last comment I remember the first CD I was given and the first Vinyl that I bought, I have no recollection of the first MP3 that I downloaded.
You guys NEED to do a Tarantino Crate Diggers! Would be the icing on the cake, make it happen!
yes, i always wanted to see what he has in his collection.
Hey William, I remember you coming to our club in San Diego @ 12 with long ass dreds . . . I was always so impressed how you stayed in the moment and inspired all that were around you . . . Good to see you living your vision . . . Until we meet again . . .
Why doesn't he have any Italian records?
You humorous son-of-a-bitch.
FINALLY! A GOOD EPISODE WHERE HE ACTUALLY PUT THE VIEWERS ON TO SOME TRUE GEMS. THATS WHY I WATCH THIS - TO DISCOVER NEW MUSIC TO LISTEN TO!!! THANKS GLK!!!
This is one of the best Crate Diggers - - Gaslamp energy is crazy too . Happy he is healthy and good .
This guy needs a reality show
The first second was enough to get my attention.
Best episode so far. GLK is a genius. Great to see him looking healthy and recovered after that horrible accident a few months ago.
GLK and Buckethead would make an insane album.
Theo Dutra I don't know man... I am a fan of both but they are on completely different pages. GLK is into old school grooves and Buckethead is a guitar wizard. don't see how they'd mesh.
RedroomStudios They are both wizards. I could totally see it.
Theo Dutra ...but would the Earth be able to withstand the chaos that would ensue?
he already used buckethead on his We Make It Good mix, plus buckethead has so much stuff he’s made based around scratching that it’s not too far of a stretch
Dude is probably the most fun person ever to be friends with. So crazy, so much energy, passion for music and what he does.
This is one of the best interviews I've seen in a long time. Cheers!
This guy just made my day! Loved this chapter! Big up from Chile!
Love that he mentioned Breakbeat dance music hardly anyone mentions this, almost my whole record collection is breaks.
Goosebump Killer. This guy is the real deal. Going to listen to everything from him now.
One of my fav videos on YT. Got me into this guy's carzy mixes and planted the seed for me getting into obscure/instrumental/beat music and DJing myself.
He rocked in Los Angeles this weekend! I love you GLK!
Lots and Lots of background.Just plain Love for the music
"I Got into Wu-Tang"
Good start.
Teddy Bear's Picnic is one of the first records I remember from childhood - makes me warm just thinking of it!
I could watch hours of GLK talking about music and rare records
This has become probably one of my favourite episodes of Crate Diggers thus far!
I believe he worked with Bus Driver, who is produced by Daddy Kev. DK lives in the same neighborhood, Mt Washington in Los Angeles.
one of the best episodes! such a humble person. hope he is well after the terrible accident! and i wanna see that dog!
What a musician is SUPPOSED to be like. True inspiration. So sick of these people that pick up dj sets and hit the play button mindlessly and call themselves an artist. No background, no history, minimal love. Hope people start djing and producing for the love. Not the fame or money.

"these people" you just described DJ Khaled, and couldn't agree more
honestly not the biggest fan of his music which didn't apply to me at all but watching this, seeing him act and talk and sensing a kind of obsession lying within hin does help to see where he's coming from in what he does musically... more than in any other episode of this series so far
whoa...that Piscopo record is the truth!!! WISH I owned that!!! HEAVY piece right there.
Peeped that La Planet Sauvage. Love that record. Overall, I love this series because you just see how passionate these guys are about the music they enjoy and almost every single one of them seem very open minded about life in general.
i always get goosebumps every time i explain music to people...

One of the best episodes ever here with GLK. He can teach DJ's and Producers a thing or two. Next level Ish!
Honest, open, transparent. Beautiful!
Peace...

The best crate diggers episode was with Rich Medina.
Now, all of a sudden every guy(with all respect is showing to public his records) because they got a couple of tousends? shittt
He, amongst we collectors and music lovers like to keep it real.
I as a collector myself, love that in him, his passion and life devotion to what we call:
Music.
big yourself up for bigging up RAW!!!!!!!!!!
I love how everyone drops the 'Responsibibilty' part in PLURR.
The Last moments of this video of him talkin about Dilla was so real to me, cause that is what every Hip Hop Head thinks about From Time to Time, Peace
