    Love this guy. Unpretentious, really loves vinyl, holds his records with care, and one of the best Crate Digger DJs I've seen. It would be fun to see him at work!

    I totally agree with what he said about the 1st press "Trophy" complex, If it sounds just as good on a re issue, who cares?

    • @JulianWyllie
      @JulianWyllie 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Al Redman I was honestly thinking the same thing the other day. I do understand that it's cool to have the first press especially if it's a different color or package but in the end I just want the music too.

      +Al Redman If you have something from the time it was made, it feels like you have some relic from that time it was released in your hands. Hard to explain.. But yeah many go way too far with it, prices i wont pay ;)

    Great episode and great musical philosophy. I have been waiting for one of the dj's in this series to down talk serato and stand up for their vinyl collection! So nice to see that one (and I think he is the first one) of all these guys featured in this great series actually uses his vinyls when he is dj'ing! Almost all the great vinyl cratediggers/djs are using serato now a days. I understand it's easier and you have effects and instant doubles and all. And if you travel the world and dj all the time, then it's so much easier. But where is the love for the format and your record collection? Now everybody can download everything, and have all the rare tunes. The dj hides behind a computer and play by BPM instead of by heart and feeling. I think it's kinda sad.
    Mr. Scruff, you are the man!!!

      i doubt that. although collectors and dj's - two groups i do belong to - do know a shitload of stuff about music and records there's always a ton of stuff we don't know. that's why we're collecting and looking out for more unheard stuff.
      plus: i'm pretty sure if you found one record that is both in my and in mr. scruff's collection we'd be telling you totally different things about it because each collector / dj has a different focus and also different memories attached to specific records.

    It’s super pretentious to assume that “taking requests” during a serious paid DJ set is nothing more than, “oh, I’ve never heard of that record; I should give it a go.”
    That is a problem. A true performing DJ would never play a song they have never heard well.
