I work in a political youth party in Norway and we just had a speaker talk about extremism , and when we talked about Islam I said that it's important that we talk about the consequences of these spesific beliefs and that we talk about the motivations behind it. Everybody agreed but when I tried to say that Islamic extremism is the most pressing issue of our time people objected and said that Islam is a religion of peace. I tried to point out that they are literally screaming "God is great" when they blow them self up and that their prophet was a terrible warlord compaired to other prophets. They said that Christianity has bad history to and I tried to say that it's irrelevant for our corrent surcomstance. I even said that it's a very very small % that are extremist (although Pew research suggest otherwise) But they refused to listen to me. You just can't get through!

Numbers 31 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”
3 So Moses said to the people, “Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites so that they may carry out the Lord’s vengeance on them. 4 Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel.” 5 So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel. 6 Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.
7 They fought against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and killed every man. 8 Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba-the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. 9 The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder. 10 They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps. 11 They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals, 12 and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.
13 Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp. 14 Moses was angry with the officers of the army-the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds-who returned from the battle.
15 “Have you allowed all the women to live?” he asked them. 16 “They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the Lord’s people. 17 Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

By the estimates of historians, during the Mughal period in India, at least 80 million Hindus were killed and countless more were converted by sword and sold to slavery by the Islamic rulers. Hundreds of thousands of Hindu temples were destroyed in North India and Central India. Some of the most important ones were converted into Mosques in order to showcase Islamic conquest. These atrocities including this largest genocide in the human history were done in the name of Islam. So Islamic barbarism is not a recent phenonmenon. Quran teaches exactly this kind of behavior.

Aristotle and Greek philosophers were preserved by the Romans (Byzantine Empire) not Islamic civilizations. The Romans preserved the works in Latin, Greek, and Arabic. The fact that the Ottomans destroyed everything but the Arabic writtings after they conquered Constantinople shows how smart the Romans were not how Islam was keen on preserving great works like Aristotle.

Sam Harris :Hi, im thankful for the interest you come to orchestrate about the issue of Islam as the debate is growing nowadays. Also, the version you're presenting of Islamis is correct and it's the prevalent version of a dogmatic religion presented by scholars of The Omayad and Abassid eras..This version at least served as it serves now a justification of a barbaric religion .Yet, the word Islam got plunged into contradictory concepts and values because an other version of the 'sacred' /'divine' discourse comes to into play within theological narratives that is of the Hadith .Here lies a structural confusion as to better understand the religion: Two divine discourses which often get into contradiction. The scholars of the islamic empire had to coin a new narrative centered about the prophet Mohamed and this led to making /attributing hadiths to the prophet as a counterforce for christianity .Then , thousands of hadiths were made to amplify the miracles and sayings all done by the prophet. Therefore , the hadith becomes divine as a text which precedes the text of the Koran as most of muslims now argue
using the hadith as valid reference. That was the biggest crime ever committed in history as the text of the Koran is quite and totally different from hadith.I was astonished when i found concepts of freedom, peace and humane coesxistence are the most stressed in the Koran discourse .Id like very much to advise you to deal with the text of the Koran only as a text using interdisciplinary linguistics if your concern is academic and truth seeking. / ( I would recommend you read the work of Mr Chahrour , syrian scholar who approached the text of the Koran from inside. It's fascinating and mind blowing as Islam ends up to be universal and it's a refined version of the revelations ' (as the text states clearly) of Noah, Abraham,Moise, Jesus and Mohamed. )

7:46 One correction sir. The practice of Sati was stamped out after a movement of Raja Ram Mohan Roy (a Hindu). No religion is perfect, it needs to be changed over time which we call reform. Extremists are against it and other support it but not for their own religion.
And if you come to caste system, I don't know how it is related to religion. Caste system is a hypocrite tradition which got, unfortunately, blended with religion. I'm happy that gradually (at very slow pace) we are abandoning these ill traditions.
For the first time I saw a person who has similar view on peaceful religion. Being a Hindu, I believe Jainism and Buddhism (to some extent) are the most peaceful religion in the world. But who knows it would need a reform in future like Islam badly needs now.

The British were behind stamping it out as well....I'm sure they had indigenous help, but British liberal reformers and western missionaries were appalled by Sati and wanted it gone.....whether it was a "white man's burden" type thing or not is immaterial...the British were instrumental in stamping it out.

Sam Harris’s criticisms are generally unambiguous, yet soft, measured and respectful. And I do not believe that he is an intolerant guy either, nor do I believe that he is driven by some ulterior agenda, other than speaking the truth as he understands and believes. He transcends the usual labels that we tag such a person with - viz., an atheist, anti-Abrahamic, an American, etc - he seems to epitomize a human with true integrity.
I am no authority on Abrahamic religions. However, it is nice to see Sam Harris trying to balance occasionally his argument with his opinion about some practices in other religions too. And yes Sam has firsthand information and knowledge on many of the topics that he speaks. Sam presented himself to the East physically, with open minds; he lived in the east for a decent time. Yes, Sam has a good knowledge of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and other religions of the east. Yet, when I listen to him talking on religions and practices of the east, I quiver. I often wonder in despair that we easterners failed utterly in offering Sam Harris wisdom of what truly the eastern philosophies believed in and our practices meant. We must have had done an extremely poor job of presenting him a meaningful, yet truthful and factual past, including its 'real' serious shortcomings. Contrary to Sam Harris's claim, India has had its caste system since time immemorial, yet it remained the richest region on earth for over 10 millennia, until the 17th century. That fact alone should summarize the whole argument on caste system.
The Dutch, the Portuguese, the Spanish, the French, the British, and even the progressive Germans did not bring the western liberal democratic values to India - they brought missionaries and built Churches promoting another archaic and mediaeval belief system in the region. Other than for railways, they did not manufacture even a single nail in the subcontinent. On the contrary, they crushed all the indigenous self reliant yet advanced technologies. Remember the Dandi Salt march? Locals could not even produce their own salt and weave cloth. If the British indeed had believed in and promoted its coveted democracy, half the world would not have been its colony, and the USA would not have denied half of its population the voting rights, and denied the same to the entire coloured race for much of its history. You have to judge the non-religious institutions and ideas just like you would judge the religions of past, which is more by what was in practice than just written in the books.
Industrial revolution denied its share of success to the vast majority of its common people in the west until not long ago. And Mr. Trump is the very product of that same deprivation that is evident even to this day. It was also a bitter reckoning to Sam Harris and the people alike, simply because they willfully and blissfully disregarded the very existence of Trump mindset either. Sam Harris should listen to his own speech on Trump, and reflect better on those 'other' so called western values that half the Americas endorsed in the last election.
From the ages of Hellenistic democracies to the democracy of the Mr. Trump era all systems are deeply flawed, working systematically against the universal fundamental human values. Slavery was legal in the Greeks democracy. Everything that Hitler did until the day of his death was legal in the German courts and constitution; and everything that the American military has done in the last three centuries is legal either. If religions led to crusades and jihads, western democracies promoted intentional well thought out cruel deprivation of the entire masses of the other innumerable countries. Also, to this day democracies of all countries continue to work against many its own people in very evident and un-shameful ways, yet strongly endorsed by institutions and ideologies of respective democracies.
Today, people have choices for things like the tissues and toiletries that they use, not ideals like true information versus false propaganda. And we call that a free choice.
New World was then habited not by those seeking freedom and choice, but mostly by those escaping poverty and persecution. The western empires were built over the very graveyards of the commons whose sweat and the blood cemented their edifices. Science and pseudo-science aggravated their plight and technology powered with the idea of capitalism facilitated annihilation of the masses. It is not the science which builds the future, but the scientists who are conscientious and responsible. The measure of future worthy is how good the human values are among those scientists. North Korea cannot be a better place than Bali when it comes to quality of life, simply because Korea can launch long range missiles armed with nukes. From yet another perspective, if we believe that of all the parameters if children represent the best hope for our future, we should reflect simply on the birth rates; a country, with all its resources if cannot even replace its own dying population, surely is not invested in its future. Scientists have to come from somewhere else to do the science.
For some, a 500-year of Islamic golden age is less of an achievement, for none of that civilization produced any nukes, which would have been an achievement in today's standard. But I care less with those yardsticks and goalposts. And referencing to practices of various religions does not make ones argument more politically correct and less bigoted either. Let us save ourselves from the divisive organised religions and agenda driven pseudo humanists and scientists alike. True democracy is yet to be born anywhere on this planet, and the mother earth is yet to see a non-bigot son who can speak in one voice for the entire human race. In some countries people may be free to carry their own guns. And few more countries are freer to unleash terror on other countries in the name of democracy and freedom. And that may be an achievement more than a caveman could dream. Should we really value that kind of democracy and care to judge the cavemen?

It's good to think better off one self as west does now. Don't mistake me I am a indian hindu whose history for past 4000 years has been subjugation and last 1000 years has been worse. Yet it's wrong to say a way of thinking is wrong as you say for Indian or Arabic. Yes Muslim insertions have caused far greater pain to us than the Western civilisations. A thriving, inclusive and superior economy was brought to grinding halt but the abrahamic traditions. Yeah we would have been better off without Western influence. Our culture has always been debating finding solutions. The caste crisis that current generation was left with has multiple facets in its culmination and economy was one of the most important one. Castes played a great role in india been one of the strongest and stable economy for thousands of years (can be evidently seen from (0-1000 AD ). Then it become stagnant and stopped the progress of our society. Our people with the tradition of debate and respecting knowledge without discrimination would have figured it out and self corrected it if not for the colonial Forces of West including Islam didn't violently invaded India...

It is said that Ashkanazi jews are over represented in nobel prize winners.

Omar burned libraries as caliph saying we have one answer to everything same was done by other muslims over the time. Bagdad was rich in thought because of wars that islam raged, constraining thinkers in one place they questioned the quran too. This is why they are distinguished as thinkers because they questioned, they were not 'good' muslims

This girl told me that this PRACTICE must have been borrowed by the HINDUS from the MUSLIMS. That the MUSLIMS have taught the HINDUS the Sati PRACTICE and then the HINDUS simply adopted it . But according to Sam Harris Sati is entirely a Hindu/ Indian PRACTICE. We need to study the Sati how it STARTED and who was to blame for this PRACTICE.

Iran was a Zoroastrian country with a sizeable number of Christians, Jews, Buddhists living there before the savage onslaught of Muslim Arabs in the 7th century. With massacres after massacres , Iranian were submitted to the rule of invaders. Many were forced by sword and many more through unjust treatment under colonial, discriminatory, and repressive Sharia law, converted to Islam.
Iran was a great nation of Art, industry, architecture, culture and civilization when Muslim Arabs with their peaceful religion, invaded and plundered it.

From the middle to the 19th century until the middle of the 20th century Islam was cowed. It was not peaceful; it was demoralized. After the WW2, the aspirations of Muslim were dominated by nationalism, socialism etc. The Six-Day War discredited these movements. The vacuum was filled by Muslim fundamentalism. The Iranian Revolution and the defeat of the Russians in Afghanistan embolden the Islamic Jihadis. Islamic umma returned to the habits of a thousand years.

    Letter to the Reverend Ensor
    Walters (1933), as quoted in
    Bernard Shaw: Collected letters,
    1926-1950 (1988) by Dan H.
    Laurence, p. 305
"I have always held the religion of
    Mohammad (p.b.u.h.) in high
    estimation because of its
    wonderful vitality.
It is the only religion which appears to me to possess that
    assimilating capability to the
    changing phase of existence
    which can make itself appeal
    to every age.
    The world must doubtless attach
high value to the predictions of
    great men like me.
I have prophesied about the faith
    of Mohammad p.b.u.h. that it
    would be acceptable to the
Europe of tomorrow as it is
beginning to be acceptable to the
    Europe of today.
    The medieval ecclesiastics, either
    through ignorance or bigotry,
    painted Mohammedanism in the
    darkest colors.
They were in fact trained both to
    hate the man Mohammed p.b.u.h.
    and his religion.
    To them Mohammed p.b.u.h. was
the Anti-Christ. I have studied him
-the wonderful man, and in my
opinion far from being an Anti- Christ he must be called the
    Savior of Humanity.
I believe that if a man like him
    were to assume the dictatorship
of the modern world he would
    succeed in solving its problems
in a way that would bring it the
    much needed peace and
    happiness.
But to proceed, it was in the 19th
    century that honest thinkers like
    Carlyle, Goethe and Gibbon
    perceived intrinsic worth in the
    religion of Mohammad p.b.u.h.,
and thus there were some change
for the better in the European
    attitude towards Islam.
But the Europe of the present
    century is far advanced.
It is beginning to be enamored
of the creed of Mohammad p.b.u.h. .
I believe that if today an autocrat
    of Mohammad's p.b.u.h. caliber
    assumes world leadership, he
    could solve all problems of
    humanity splendidly.
The world will become an abode
    of peace and happiness.
    I predict that tomorrow's Europe
    will embrace Islam."

Freedom from religion is Hinduism !
Hinduism is not at all a religion in the sense of Islam , christianity or Judaism.
It is not a particular belief system.
So much so that even if you do not believe in any God ,still you can be called Hindu.
It does not confine you to one or few books, one prophet and a particular way of worship.
In fact, there are thousands of ancient scriptures ,talking widely different, about questions that arose in human mind ,from time to time , on all sort of things.
it has evolved over tens of thousands of years in the Indian peninsula and still continues to evolve.
Social evils like caste ,or identities ,can develop over time in all societies and are then tackled.
But that may take years and years , depending upon the diversify and enormity of civilization,
besides the foreign invasions and occupation of the region.
The name Hindu itself is not found in the ancient indian scriptures.
It is a description of civilization between Himalayas and Indu ,meaning oceans.
it is a civilization of seekers and its people were never constrained to any one belief system or a religion.
Members in one house, very commonly worship different Gods or no God, or create ones own God, which may suit to ones temperament.
Finally only human values matter in Hinduism. We are all one big family on planet earth.

In order to save themselves from getting Raped, disgraced and sold to Arab masters as sex slaves, this culture started taking place in India by royal families.

Europe received a lot of money from the US which also made the US a superpower especially after Nixon moved off gold standard and essentially stole from the Europeans.
We have a population problem and centuries of brutal oppression to overcome. Comparing that to Europeans shows how ignorant you are. Post war the west saw massive growth fuelled on the back of colonialism as they had all the industries and the US had control of money.
I don't know where you live but as someone who has been living in the west for a decade, I can assure you that things are getting bad here. Now that the benefits of colonialism is starting to dry up, things arent as rosy.
Young people are depressed, arent having sex and have negative population growth as a result. Do you know why? Because they dont have the standard of living that boomers enjoyed. They cant buy a home or take vacations and this will continue to get worse as the rest of the world catch up. Maybe learn a thing or two before accusing others of nationalism. Bhakts and librandus like you are very alike - little knowledge lots of complaints.

Sam, you have stated some nonsense about Hinduism and India, and your comparison to Western values is completely flawed and intellectually shallow….
Firstly, Sati was a fringe practice that goes against the tenets of the Bhagavad Gita (one of the major Hindu texts) since suicide is considered to be the biggest sin. It was very rare, and had been abolished at times before the British came. The caste system is not an integral part of Hindu religious belief, but more of a societal issue; think about it, what caste are the Hare Krishnas (they don’t have any caste, but are still Hindus)? The caste system has been blown out of proportion by the West. How does the caste system compare to the brutal slavery that the West was responsible for against Africans and then the racist attitudes of the West towards other human beings? Remember MLK drew inspiration from Gandhi, an Indian, in order to rid segregation of the African Americans in the U.S.
The West has been responsible for witch burnings, slavery, racism, genocide (Native Americans, Jews in WWII), brutal imperialism, segregation, oppression of homosexuals, and the dropping of atomic bombs that incinerated over 200,000 innocent children, women, and men, numerous wars and support of cruel regimes all over the world, etc. The West still eats animals on a daily basis and displayed a total disregard for non-human life.
The progress that the west has made has primarily been made possible with the exploitation of other humans. The British empire, extracted resources from other lands. The U.S. was established on the territory of Native Americans after stealing their land and killing them off, and was made prosperous economically by the forced labor of slaves taken from Africa.
Essentially, while the West certainly has produced many great inventions, don’t forget that witch burnings, imperialism, slavery, genocide, segregation, stealing land, the atomic bomb, apartheid, etc. are also Western “advances”.
In contrast, the Hindu civilization (India), which is thousands of years older, has not participated in any imperialism whatsoever. India never invaded any other country, was devoid of slavery, respected the sanctity of all sentient life; it gave the world tenets of nonviolence, spirituality, yoga, vegetarianism, notion of karma, etc….
70% of the world’s vegetarians are in India, showing how comparatively backward the west is with respect to respecting the sanctity of all life…In India, do you see kids being shot up in schools? The rest of the world is confused by the obsession of guns in the U.S. and the inability to protect children at school…It’s needless to say that spiritually, India has always been far advanced compared to the West.
And don’t forget the fact that the divorce rate in the U.S. is 50% compared to 1% percent in India. And western countries on average have a very high divorce rate. Effectively what that suggests is that the west has completely failed miserably compared to a place like India when it comes to the institution of marriage. What good are all the inventions when you can’t even keep a family unit together?…In countries like India, parents are respected, and taken care of whereas in large part in the West, the elderly are just thrown into nursing homes. How advanced is that? Are those human rights?
Let me reiterate that India has been spiritually, way more advanced, and has shown more success in keeping families together than the West…
Incidentally, Hinduism is one of the few religions in the world that does not condemn homosexuality, in contrast to the Western religions.
India has had a female head of the country, Hinduism is the only religion in the world that worships the feminine form and energy. India just passed a bill that would insure 30% of seats in the parliament reserved for women. Has the U.S. done that? So where are the human rights?
India has been accepting toward every religion for thousands of years. It is one of the few countries in the world in which there was no discrimination or hatred against the Jews. So I suggest that you rethink your notion of human rights being a western invention, particularly in the context of the holocaust, hatred towards Jews, racism, segregation, etc.
Overall, the Indian civilization has shown a far greater respect for life and has killed (and inflicted pain upon) less number of both human beings and other sentient living creatures compared to the West.
With respect to the West and India, next time maybe you should think more broadly and do some homework before talking. You don’t want a “pot calling the kettle black” (a Western phrase) situation.

Living in 2018, looking back to all human rituals in the last 2000 years, they will look barbaric and animalistic. They must look like that because the environment was tough. Religions are quantum leaps in human consciousnes that gave humanity a reason to push forward and serve higher goals.
The west had a religion too. It wasn't christianity, it was the new world dream, what became later to be the American dream, what finally made usa a great nation and made all nations to look up to.

Indeed, like the old religions promoted wars and conquest, believing in god the creator of everything and wars as the means to divide the wealth created by god, we believe we are the creators ourselves.
      We create wealth.
We create the world we live in, these cities, these cars and planes, this internet, all the products we use every day, we are not like the people before the industrial revolution, fighting each other to get our share, we fight at the frontiers of science and technology expanding the world we created and improving it.
While muslims and many old age religious people believe to be some slave or servant of the creator, we started to believe we were the children of the creator but then we realized we could be the creator and now wen know we are creative creatures able to build a better future for out children, like our parent created a better life for us.

History is irreversible, Islam and other cultures also have its downside. Modern science developed by the west is a fact. This statement is different if you live in medieval times when the Islamic world advanced with science.
Muhammad fought for his mission to succeed even in the face of the violence of his people, that is why the verses of violence are found in the Quran. If Muhammad was accepted peacefully by his people, there might not be violent verses in the Quran.
But Islam is not that. Islam is belief in only one God who created the universe and then to do good during life. In order to be happy in the afterlife. This is what Muslim believe. Peace.

    His (Muhammad p.b.u.h.) stamina,
endurance and forgiveness, while he was in a commanding position:
    his patience and firmness in
    unfavorable conditions, were all
    talents, attributes and qualities
Allah himself had given him. Even
    wise men have their shortcomings,
    but Allah's Messenger p.b.u.h.,
unlike everybody, the more he was
hurt or injured, the more gentle and patient he became. The more
    rudeness and ignorance anybody
    exercised against him, the more
    enduring he became.
'Aishah (R.A.) said: "Whenever Allah's Messenger p.b.u.h. was
    given the opportunity to choose
    between two affairs, he would
    always choose the easiest and
the most convenient. But if it be
sinful, he would be as far as he
could from it. He never took
revenge for himself; but when the
sanctity of Allah was violated, he
would avenge it. That would be for
    Allah's sake not for himself."
He (p.b.u.h.) was the last one to
get angry and the first to be satisfied. His hospitality and
    generosity were matchless. His
    gifts and endowments manifest a
man who does not fear poverty."
    Ibn 'Abbas(R.A.) said: "The Prophet

I don't accuse Sam Harris of bigotry, but surely an absolute ignorant about India-Hinduism and super-arrogant of western exceptionalism!
    1. If Hindu Culture was so bad and responsible for present accurately presented poverty stats, then how come India was the largest economy in the world history up until 1500-1600? What happened to India's economy, which was going down from the beginning of 2nd Millenium? Islamic Barbaric un-organized invasion-destruction and Europeans (His so-called evolved westerner ancestors) organized Imperialistic looting of India are responsible, it was the rise of Hindu culture after freedom, India is going upwards! First Western Right (Abrahamic Exclusivism) and now Western Left (American Exceptionalism-Exclusivism) are solely responsible for regressive India! Indian Right (Hinduism) and Indian True Left (Buddhism and Jainism) would have produced better India!
    2. The word caste, linguistically Portege ze, which was essentially superimposed Western-European vertical socio-economic pyramids on Hindu Varna System (Organic horizontal separation of Four sector of any civilized society)! Varna System was essentially the first system that separated church, state, corporate and social services (Media, Labor, Education, Health...)! Western system is still struggling to separate church and state, and haven't even proposed to separate corporation from church, state and services, which is rather very evident, the root of their Healthcare and Crony-capitalism roller-coaster.
    3. You should seriously study about 'Sati' in its purest Hindu form. As far as a colonial and Mughal era, when Hindu men were butchered by Europeans (So called civilized) and Middle-eastern invaders, women preferred to die instead of getting raped or enslaved.
    4. In the contemporary world, three progressive thoughts are actually prominent in India as early as 500B.C.E, if not earlier: Vegetarianism, Advaitism (No Personal God-Atheism) and Yoga-Meditation. I sometimes wonder his when he speaks of Vipassana Meditation or some philosophies-Advaita Vedanta, that he thinks highly of, they are product of India, precisely Ancient Hindus. There were no random events, which produced such eternal tools of humanities, they were the product of evolving Hindu Culture. India had Hinduism (Non-dual Inclusive One Absolute), Buddhism (Zero Inclusive Absolute, Agnostics) and Jainism (No Absolute-Pure Atheism), co-existed pre-500 B.C.E.; and it was the time when so-called civilized Westerners primarily governed by Abrahamic exclusive Gods!
    5. When they found out about a great civilization of Hindus-India, they manufactured Aryan Invasion theory (German Historian Max Muller) to sabotage India and cover up their barbaric civilization.
    6. All civilizations had great ideas with scientific revolution, it was unfortunate that it did not transform into technology the way it did in the west! However Free abundant natural resources from Native America and Free abundant labor from African Slavery fueled American Revolution (now cheap labor from India-China) and More Free resources through Imperialism fueled European revolution are fundamental reasons, where the west was able to move on next human phase of technology, where others were looted and traumatized, had to think about their survival! There was nothing inherently superior (genetically or ideologically), as Sam Harris proposing, rather very deceptively, white (European or non-Muslim Abrahamic culture) supremacism!
Let me end with Gandhi's response when he was asked what he thinks about western civilization, He replied, "That would be a good idea..."

The caste system served its purpose when it was conceived with roles(job definitions) defined in societies. The discrimination in terms of access to public spaces or even preventing people from switching careers based on caste was wrong. For eg seldom would you find a non Brahmin running a temple. Brahmins had access to the education/training and therefore could perform their job. But a trader or a lower caste person was never given the education/training on running a temple and therefore could not partake the profession. Equal opportunity for everyone should be the norm in society and with that the caste system itself would get dismantled. Discrimination will always exist though. Sati was banned more than 2 centuries ago in India. Indian civilization is amongst the oldest in the world and therefore change is not always welcome as customs and traditions have been carried forward for generations. Everyone evolves with time but that can be lengthy drawn out process. Technology is certainly an enabler to improve life but it is not the "be it all" in life. It is critical in todays day and age to protect the rights of minorities throughout the world. Constantinople (Instanbul, Turkey), Antioch( Syria) and Alexandria(Egypt) were the main centres of the Eastern Roman Empire and Christianity in the first millenium CE. Today there are less than 1% Christians left in these cities of Muslim ruled countries. India as a country has a pretty decent record of protecting minorities. Absolute power corrupts. There have been several genocides greater if not equal to the Holocaust which have not gotten the media coverage. The Jews are a wealthy lot of people and therefore they control the media and have had American support ever since the state of Israel came into existence. Vested interests are being disguised in religious wars. Islam singularly has probably been responsible for mass conversions and/or driving away people of other faiths in the countries run by them as history shows us and the examples shown above. Forceful conversions were even done by the Portuguese in Goa but is nothing compared to the scale of Muslim conversions.

    • @recon4531

"Constantinople (Istanbul, Turkey), Antioch (Syria), and Alexandria (Egypt) were the main centers of the Eastern Roman Empire and Christianity in the first millennium CE. Today there are less than 1% Christians left in these cities of Muslim ruled countries."
While it is true that these cities were significant centers of the Eastern Roman Empire and Christianity, the claim that there are less than 1% Christians left in these cities today is misleading. Istanbul, for example, is a diverse city with a significant Christian population. While the proportion of Christians might have decreased over time, it is inaccurate to claim that they have been completely eradicated. Additionally, the decline in Christian population in these areas can be attributed to various historical and socio-political factors, not solely the influence of Islam.
"India as a country has a pretty decent record of protecting minorities."
While India has a history of religious diversity and pluralism, it is important to acknowledge that there have been instances of religious tensions and violence against religious minorities in the country. The notion that India has a flawless record of protecting minorities is an oversimplification. Incidents of discrimination, communal violence, and challenges faced by religious minorities have been reported over the years.
"The Jews are a wealthy lot of people and therefore they control the media and have had American support ever since the state of Israel came into existence."
This claim perpetuates an anti-Semitic stereotype. It is important to recognize that Jewish people, like any other religious or ethnic group, are diverse and cannot be generalized as a monolithic entity with control over media or political systems. The suggestion that Jewish people control the media or have undue influence is unfounded and unsupported by credible evidence.
"Vested interests are being disguised in religious wars. Islam singularly has probably been responsible for mass conversions and/or driving away people of other faiths in the countries run by them as history shows us and the examples shown above."
It is incorrect and unfair to attribute mass conversions or the displacement of people solely to Islam. Throughout history, numerous religious and non-religious factors have contributed to conversions and population movements. It is important to approach historical analysis with nuance, considering various social, political, and economic factors at play.
"Forceful conversions were even done by the Portuguese in Goa but is nothing compared to the scale of Muslim conversions."
Forceful conversions have unfortunately occurred in different periods and regions throughout history, often as a result of political or religious conflicts. While it is true that some instances of forced conversions took place during the Portuguese rule in Goa, comparing them to the scale of Muslim conversions is a problematic oversimplification. It is essential to acknowledge that religious conversions have been driven by a complex interplay of factors and cannot be solely attributed to any single religious group.

Constantinople (Instanbul, Turkey), Antioch( Syria/Turkey) and Alexandria(Egypt) were like the Vatican of those days. It would be safe to assume that Christianity spread to the remaining parts of those countries. Egypt has all but wiped out all Christians in Alexandria and Egypt. Instanbul might have a significant minority Christian population but when you look at them as a percentage of Turkey's population, it is insignificant much like the Christians in Karachi, Pakistan. But it seems like Lebanon and Syria still do have a sizeable Christian population. BTW Turkey has converted one of the largest cathedrals in the world, Hagia Sofia to a mosque.
The Israel Palestine problem is a lot more complicated than mere building of additional settlements in so called occupied/disputed areas. The Temple of the Dome is the primary bone of contention in Jerusalem and the religious significance of the site to both, the Jews and the Muslims makes it complicated but certainly not necessarily a deadlock. Stoking religious sentiments has been the easiest time proven formula to incite people. Israel, over the last 7 decades has developed into a self reliant country with a lot of US backing as far as defense equipment and political backing is concerned. But it has had much more than its fair share of human rights violations. Palestine has created a ultra rich multi millionaire Yaseer Arafat whose family is having a ball in Paris.
Most Islamic invaders probably prior to the mid 19th century engaged in forceful conversions as it would have been easier to control the population and there is enough evidence to that effect of the significant Muslim population in India prior to the partition of United India(India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and probably Burma too).
India has been a victim of vote bank politics for the last 7 decades not unlike many other democracies in the world. Inspite of the fissures exploited and deepened by the British between the Muslims and Hindus, India has a stellar record of secularism. There is no bigger testament to the same considering that Indian Muslims are the 3rd largest Muslim population in the world. Hinduism is not a monolith like Islam. Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt have their singular religious heads. The INC has engaged in shameless appeasement of the Muslims in free India along with taking the Hindus in India for granted. Therefore the BJP is now turning a blind eye to the extremely isolated incidents of right wing Hindu fanaticism and vigilantism in the country. Most people are averse to fanaticism especially but not necessarily associated with a majority. Therefore BJP never really found its footing in general elections in India prior to the 90s. Modi has disguised his right winged ideology in the guise of development and won the last 2 general elections. How difficult can it be to provide basic necessities in life ? Pretty difficult in India and that is what Modi has solved. Cooking gas connections with fuel supply, tap water connections are now in progress, toilets, concrete houses for the under privileged. The change is quite significant considering how low the base level was in the country.
On a side note, I was shocked to learn that Turkey has an extremely high literacy rate(95%+). There is nothing more dangerous than an intellectual jihadi.
