How do you feel about a 1660 super for a build like this? Also, any variants of this card I should avoid? I'm trying to save a few bucks. I already have a case, SSD, and PSU from my current dead desktop so those aren't areas I could save more.

The general tips that you include are really helpful, especially for newcomers. For example, the general rule of thumb for PSU power usage around 60% capacity is something I wish I heard earlier. Finding answers through Google/reddit can yield varying results. It'd be great if you combined other common guidelines for PC building/parts. Just built a ryzen 3600, x570 aorus elite, took some cheap corsair 3200 cl16 xmp and manual tuned it to a tight cl18 3600mhz. I then dropped in a red devil 5700xt. I went full air with 2 intake on front, a giant 240 turbine on the top and a normal outake in the back. I dropped a scyth mugen5 argb on CPU and psu was a power flower III 650w argb. Overall Im really happy with the build thanks very much for how hard you all work making these videos. Your videos played a big part in what I chose in this build. My CPU is running at 4.1-4.2ghz in games and ranged between 56oc and 68 in gaming. I put a custom fan curve on gpu cause dont care about the sound. It runs in games between 60% and 75% fan and gpu rarely goes over 56 Oc!!! Even a random temp spike hits 61OOc max for a few seconds then drops back.
Your the best dude. Da best! I should just write your name over the front of my case and call it tech Jesus. Playing nearly all games in 1440p 144hz and my fps bounces between 115-150 on maxed out forza 4, call of duty warzone etc.
I know you will hate me for asking this. However your benchs on the 5700xt are radically lower fps than what Im getting now after the last few driver updates. Id say that 12% boost they claim is not that far off. An example of this would be my red devil running a constant bounce of 1980mhz but reaching 2040mhz and holding regularly. When I say holding I mean it will sit there now for minutes not seconds. Granted I have higher fan curves on than stock but It's still really impressive. Not like im ramping 100% fans at any point. It never goes over 75% fan and usually will sit 65%. If you want to clear 2ghz with this gpu I recommend the volume increase from fans. The temperature here right now is 23 Oc for some perspective on my random spewing of numbers lol,
Consider running the top 3 5700xt in an updated bench for comparison to their previous bench?

It is great to see explanations of 'why you do this?' When a cooler is $50 and a CPU with cooler upgrade is more than the next step up with Included cooler it is good to understand.
What I enjoy about more cores and more screens is 'gaming productivity'. You can play your games and watch your videos, catch up with your Discord friends or watch your on line training without compromise to either game or video content.

I would have liked a "here's how much this bonus feature cost, and here's how much it improved performance" mention every now and again in order to see where the most efficient upgrades would be, esp on a budget focused build like this where you're trying to cut corners while impacting usability as little as possible. Or at the very least a clear comparison of the things you change and how much they affected performance, so we could do our own price lookups. Also testing more tiers of cpu coolers would have been nice.

Personally I think this type of content just adds another layer to your already bountiful harvest of no-nonsense straight up facts when it comes to PC building and it's myriad of components. I can only see positives coming from this, bringing in the type of viewer who's unsure about PC building only to have them leave well informed and feeling better more secure in their purchases and more importantly themselves. You don't kowtow to anyone and it shows that integrity matters. People really take notice of these type of things...

That’s a great idea! I would love to see a build with meshify s2. You mentioned many times that fractal meshify cases have great POTENTIAL but poor stock configuration for thermals. A build with 3 fans at the front would be interesting!

I just placed an order for my upgrade..... it baffles my mind i got the Tuff x570 wifi for $300 but the mid range B550's are $280.
By the time i factored in shipping it was cheaper to get 3600/x570 then a 3300x/b550 combo by almost $60

my old x79 motherboard from 2012 goes into safe boot and loads the right settings when you unplug and drain the power. It is sad to see those features don't make it into mainstream boards, removing the battery is old school

Great content as always Steve. Very impressed with this cpu overall. I ditched my 8700k as I wanted a change and as Zen 3 is not out yet, I went with an x570 Tuf board and 3600. MicroCenter made me an offer I could not refuse. $159 for the cpu and an additional $20 off when I bought the Mobo!!! Can't say I am seeing any better performance than my old 8700k z370 build, but I am ready for Zen 3. And once this arrives I will have a spare 3600 for an upgrade for my wife's PC...... Keep up the great work. I'm off to order a GN mouse pad now.

Dont make newbie misstakes, which should be memory in wrong slots, the motherboard dont like the memory, psu should be known brand and more power the better in the long run +5year mark, the cords from motherboard to chassi is a pain for nearsighted with fat fingers, buy a quality chassi with space, ssd harddrive or better and the you need a new windows thats bound to the new motherboard , big chassi that can take a long gpu is good but some motherboard are blocked to use a full gpu and some motherboard use crap components

I have an old case power button hooked up to my clear CMOS jumpers. When I bork something I just press the button for 10 seconds and it clears. Easy peasy. The look ain't great because I have the button on top of my case. I'm not gonna say how long I used a screw driver before I finally figured that out.

Question regarding power supply: On the PowerColor website it says that they recommend a 700W PSU for their Red Devil RX 5700XT. The GPU itself has a maximum of 220W. I'm running it with a Ryzen 5 3600. On PC Part Picker, the total consumption is at max 450W. Do I really need 700 or can I settle for ~550W?

I can't say for certain about the B550. But my TUF Gaming X570 board has clear cmos pins, that you just short with a screwdriver for a few seconds. A little easier than pulling the battery. A lot like jumpstarting the testbench, when the MB doesn't have a built in power button.
