    I have been a silent watcher for a long time, but this video really hits me and wanna share my story to y’all .
    I was in a total opposite situation, I was skinny af. 6’1 and 115 pounds in high school. Yep, skinny like a street pole. It wasn’t anyone calling me out but myself. I was like “you skinny af and all you do is playing video game, such a loser”. So I decided to hit the gym and gain some strength and weight. If any of you guys are skinny and has high metabolism, you know how hard to put some weight on, I was constantly forcing myself to eat, i would have 6 meals a day, and most of the times, the last meal after dinner, which was just a peanut butter sandwich, it would always take me a good 10 mins to try to swallow that sh*t, and multiple times of gagging and throwing up happened. But I got no choice, I have to have more calories than what I burnt to gain some muscles. It wasn’t enjoyable until I saw the progress. Then I noticed something has changed, not just my physical appearance but also my mentality. I became much more positive and confident than I was, I was willing to and able to challenge myself in life(academic, physical, and etc.,). IT FELT GREAT! I started engaging more into sports and learning english by myself( I barely knew how to speak English).
    Fast forward to now, I have studied aboard and finished my bachelor’s and master’s in States by using my second language. Landed a pretty decent job.
    What I was trying to say (not trying to brag about it) is that if I look back, I wouldn’t know that going to gym would’ve changed my life, instead, I was just trying to put on some weights. But the chain effect has pushed me to be a better person, to challenge myself in a daily basis.
    Would going to gym and get fit changes your life? IDK 🤷 but going to gym and trying to get a healthier lifestyle probably is the one of the easiest and most noticeable things you can do in a short period of time while seeing your progress. It will definitely help you to find your potentials.
    Sometimes you need someone like Awkward to be the one to “kick your butt” and tells you the truth in a “mean” way. Cloud he said in a nicer way? Ofc! But most of us will not take actions while you being told nice and sweetly…
    Now, back to the original tweet. Yes you can be lazy and stuff, it’s your life and your decisions. BUT don’t go on social media and whine about it trying to play a victim and influence others. That’s just some ill mentalities.😅

    As a medical doctor who enjoys playing overwatch in my free time, I couldn't agree with you more. The truth can hurt, but many people want only affirmation, not honest advice. Awkward is spitting truth bombs here trying to show the importance of balance in life for both physical and mental health, but many people disagree purely out of desire to appear morally superior without realizing they are actually encouraging someone's physical and mental deterioration.

      I am a medical student and I agree with your statement, however I feel that this whole situation has been blown way out of proportion. While there may be some who don't like Awkward's method of coaching/motivation I think that there are a good number of people who have no issue with it at all but still disagree with how he replied to Questron. I am one of those people, I have played OW since 2016 and I have competed in OD and enjoy competitive play very much. I have no problem with what Awkward is attempting to teach. However, I think we are all capable of being wrong sometimes and taking things beyond the point; such as calling someone fat. Sure, say they are Lazy, but what does being fat have anything to do with this. Now I know what you are going to say, but think about it. You don't know his medical history or anything more about him apart from what he said. And while Questron may have put that out into the world for everyone to see and judge like yourself, Awkward is doing the same. So even stating that is pointless. What I am mainly trying to say here is that Awkward is not wrong for wanting to motivate people in his own way and if I am being honest he does a great job at it. Regardless, talking down to someone is not the same as motivating them and Awkward may say he doesn't care what people think/say about him and yet his whole career depends on it. So, maybe we don't talk down to people we are trying to help and perhaps motivate them, not by holding back the truth, but by being respectful while being truthful. I would never tell my patient they are fat to help them lose wait nor would I lie to them. I would find a way to meet them where they are at becasue you simply cannot force people to do anything. If you are serious about helping them then you take the steps needed to get them there and help make them stronger. There is just no need for disrespect even if it involves a truth. That is why motivation is a skill and coaching is an art. You can't just say whatever you want and expect anyone to listen.

      As medical professionals we should understand that, even though awkward’s point is correct, shit talking someone isn’t the best way to provide then health education and promote lifestyle changes. If an obese patient walks into your office, will you just call them lazy and tell them to keep their mouths closed and stop eating? Or will you actually help them by educating them on a healthier lifestyle, forward them to a nutritionist and, if the indication exists, prescribe obesity medication and metabolic surgery? If someone like awkward treats them like he did, whatever, he is not a health professional. Us, however, as doctors, should know better.

    Bro decided to vent publicly, so he got a public response. Lot of people saying Awkward should've DM'd him but no, the stupidly was thrown out on a public forum and everyone who read and bought it needed the same taste of reality.

    • @lukasg4807
      @lukasg4807 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He vented about streaming, responding to him about that is fine. It's just calling him fat and unshaven just came out of nowhere, it wasn't really relevant to the conversation and just came across as trying to insult him, not trying to "help".

    • @stevent2671
      @stevent2671 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@lukasg4807he absolutely did not just "vent about streaming". He poised himself as a victim of his own grind and how it has precluded him from participating in other aspects of normal life. When called out, he even doubles down. He needed a taste of reality to recognize he has forgotten the fundamentals for a healthy lifestyle. Family, friends and fitness are building blocks for mental health.
      If you are overweight by choice (ie not dealing with a serious medical issue or a child at their parents' will of poor nutrition), then you are telling the world you don't respect yourself. The same goes for people who seek out sympathy.
      It was completely relevant. The only problem is that Akward approached this like a man and wants to solve his issue while everyone else wants to be whiny little girls that just want to vent their problems and have everyone affirm their terrible choices- cause they're fat and lazy and don't wanna change.

    • @lukasg4807
      @lukasg4807 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @stevent2671 his complaints were dumb af, not being able to socialize etc. is solely on him, and the tweet was kind of dumb, but that's not the point. His haircut and weight are a completely different topic (plus is he even fat? I couldn't find that good of pictures of him but he looked normal weight). The way awkward said it it was just straight up an insult that came out of nowhere. It's not like he told him that working out helps a lot with your mental, he basically told him "you're fat plus your cut sucks, L+Ratio".

    • @stevent2671
      @stevent2671 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@lukasg4807 I think we pretty much agree except the part about it coming out of nowhere. Contextually, Questron decided to double down and claim he wasn't lazy in response to the first tweet. Awkward's last line was him giving two extra, objective examples as more prove he is lazy - ones that he couldn't deny like the first.
      Now, I wouldn't have phrased it the exact same way just to be clear. But I can't fault Awkward here because everyone else is misrepresenting what he said. You made a great point, I don't know if he is fat either. Awkward didn't call him fat in the tweet. My take is that everyone wants to ignore and overlook the truth of what he said by blowing his minor criticisms out of proportion.

    The thing that doesn’t make sense is that as a streamer, you have pretty good control over your own working conditions. Acting as if you are forced into what you’re doing is so fake. Nobody said that there aren’t hard parts of streaming, but you can manage them and counterbalance them if you put time and effort into it. If you aren’t enjoying what you’re doing as a streamer, you have a lot of flexibility in how you can change that reality. Other jobs don’t have that, so complaining is a valid outlet. But when you could just fix the problem yourself, it comes across as a disingenuous complaint.

    This was such a journey to digest. At the core of it, you’re right; he’s suffering from self inflicted wounds and prolonging (arguably worsening) these wounds with a reflex to soothe, and the community is echoing the sentiment. By virtue of how Overwatch was dreamed up and the era in which it was created, it has a player base that skews to this type of behavior. It’s practically a staple of their behavior and identities.
    With that said, there are more important things than being right. In the grand scheme of things, being right has very little value. Especially when one rides a bit high on the presumption of superiority that is the dopamine rush of being “right” and overextends. Here you engage in what can be generously described as superficial psychoanalysis based on a someone’s internet presence, their physical appearance and your own personal life experience. To someone with more life experience and a matching IQ, your approach to this betrays the contours of your adversities while your defensive posture betrays deep insecurities of your own. That while not currently on the surface, will always lie in waiting for a moment of sufficient weakness. Working out IS lazy for you. Having a girlfriend, friends, attention, IS lazy for you. This video is lazy for you. This take is lazy for you. Ironically, a more mature, meaningful, community building approach that EFFECTIVELY (keyword) adds value would have been you leaving your comfort zone. AND it’s so much easier than the tasks you’re projecting onto him from a place of ignorance.
    I don’t have any doubts as to why this situation is alienating you from the greater overwatch community.
    But I understand that you don’t actually care about the community in that sense and it’s just a fortunate conduit for living life. (which is sane imo). The problem with riding high like this is that the fall is much harder. And while it might seem like you’re so special you’re irreplaceable, you can be certain that isn’t so. Grace in all things. That’s how you truly add value. Don’t wait till you have children to learn that lesson and look back in shame. Take that from someone who’s been there. And mine weren’t recorded, so I am lucky. See you next time.

    Most of the time I play with my IRL friends and tbh any game is fun as fuck in you have a few good friends to play with.
    And while yes, nobody likes loosing games we really dont care anymore. When I go on a loosing streak i dont think about it and go outside/work/go to the gym.

    "Just because I say it harshly doesn't make it less true. It doesn't matter."
    I watched the whole video before writing this response. I think the part you're still not understanding is that your delivery of this message IS the problem. It's pretty clear that from your perspective, the truth matters more than how you say it, so it doesn't make a difference whether you are kind or an asshole about it. Yes, there were countless twitter users blindly jumping to Questron's defense and telling him to keep doing what he's doing, but if you paid attention to the people who took the time to craft intelligent responses, you'll notice that most of them actually agree with your point. The only difference is they realize that *how* you say something does matter.
    You even acknowledge this point when you say,
    "You agree with me when I say things nice, but when I say things as they are, which could be a little bit more mean by your own standards, now you disagree with me. It's the same sentence just phrased differently. But it doesn't take away from the truth."
    Yes, it doesn't take away from the truth, but instead of acting like a concerned friend, you're giving the impression of a bully. There needs to be some level of trust between two people for brutal honesty to actually sound like you care about them. You mention, "a good friend would tell you that you're doing something wrong", which is true, and this works because deep down you know that a good friend has your best interests at heart. This doesn't work with someone you don't trust. Vehemently disagreeing with Questron when he says streaming is a hard job is valid, but people took issue with you because your brutal honesty about his physical appearance came out of nowhere, and it looked like you were just adding an insult on top of your argument because you could.
    Since you don't already have a friendship with Questron that involves trust, you HAVE to be more tactful about the way you address the harsh truth if you don't want to come across as an asshole.

    Key takeaways from this video:
    1) Being resistant to change when something isn't working in your life makes you lazy and comfortable.
    2) Being rude to someone about a fact is harsh but reality is harsher.
    3) Don't take people opinions literally , their positivity/negativity is more of a reflection of themselves.
    4) Start exercising and stop being out of shape/fat to improve your mental/physical health.
    5) People's words can be loud but their actions are louder. This will help you rule out hypocrisy.
    6) Take care of your face hygiene.
    7) And last of all , be a man that brings value to the table for any person/matter.

    There is a thing called “tact” which he seems to be lacking. We are all humans with emotions after all and we are not robots. You can’t just speak to people in a “brutally honest” fashion just because it’s true and you think you’re helping them. A lot of people are fat because they are depressed and you should respect that and not make it worse just by calling them out and actually making them feel worse about it. You are actively doing damage instead of helping. And you can disagree with that but it is factual just like the sky is blue.

      @@Awkward2 , the core of the critique against you is one of STRATEGY. That much is valid. Either the tactics get the intended results or it is poor strategy... period. If you learn how to be tactful, you can tell people things they DON'T want to hear, and not only will they not hate you for it, they will be far more receptive. If you focus on being polite and respectful, when you tell people you are giving them tough love, they will know it comes from a place of love. Say whatever you want; just know that HOW you go about doing that either makes people more receptive or makes them instantly defensive. This is basic human psychology, not rocket science. Brutal honesty only works if the person has humility and is in a good place mentally... most people are not.

But at the end of the day people have their own 'ways' of telling people how it is. Sometimes delivering it in a very harsh way is the only way people can actually wake up and do something about it. I want to shoot in with a point I think is extremely important and I am fairly confident you got wrong.
    You should look this up to not take my word for it, but positive reinforcement is WAY more effective in encouraging people than negative. There's lots of anecdotal stories about being bullied into working out, but the truth of the matter is that "tough love" is ineffective at best, and hurtful at worst.
    You hit the nail on the head about his comfort zone. When it comes to depression, its a viscous cycle. But just like Questron, you have chosen what you do with your energy. Hitting the gym has become your comfort zone. And it's exactly like you say, its a lazy day for you. His choices has started him on this cycle and getting out is not even close to an easy feat.
    I think his struggles are valid. Being active has the benefit of giving you more energy and motivation. You underestimate how hard simple tasks can be for someone who is inactive. So, instead of yapping silly and unhelpful "just do it, you lazy bum" advice, you can give him strength by being positive and empathetic. You know what else drains you of all motivation and energy? Negativity
