Yes, I noticed that too. Probably letting us know that Harvey Dent is actually the bad person and he's always suppressed his moral side until the accident let what little good he had come to the surface.
Basil Karlo’s makeup guy, Jack Ellman is modeled after Jack Pierce - the makeup legend that created the original Frankenstein Monster with Boris Karloff. Also, the sword fight on the stairs was an homage to Adventures of Robin Hood which features Basil Rathbone as the villain.
Someone might have already mentioned it, but the ad in the newspaper that mentions "Bats in the Basement" is a reference to the BTAS episode "I've Got Batman in my Basement" where Batman teams up with amateur kid detective Sherman Grant and his friends to foil Penguin's theft of a Faberge egg. The kids kept Batman in their basement HQ while he recovered from poison gas and to keep him out of sight from Sherman's mom.

13:12 "March gives bizzare (sic) lecture at Gotham Zoo" is most likely a reference to Dr. March the bat expert, voiced by the late René Auberjonois, from the BTAS episode "On Leather Wings." 13:24 As others have noted, this ad is a reference to "I've got Batman in my Basement," the first BTAS episode featuring Penguin as the villain. @ScreenCrush the easter egg from TAS at 14:08 of Mr Freeze, is not actually about Mr Freeze. The reference here is actually about a 2-part episode in TAS where batman fights a rogue supercomputer called H.A.R.D.A.C, which creates very strong lifelike machines which were made to recreate the creators daughter, who is the scientists daughter referenced in episode 5 of CC, if what the newspaper is about this scientist, then a remake and/or adaptaion of the 2-part episode could be coming in the future
The art design for Gotham was SO good, the villains felt familiar despite some changes, Batman was really being Batman, they weren’t afraid to get a little twisted. One of my favorite episodes was Harley Quinn’s because she was able to develop into a villain completely untied to Joker.
@@KaijuAKD Yea his characterizations were lame and way off base. Now people say that Superman is supposed to be a savage... The man who saves kittens from trees....
Something I liked with this show was how they avoided that comic trope of "this persons bad just because" when it came to their villains. They tried to give them actual motivations for doing what they do. Harley Quinn was a good example of that, she was'nt straight up bad, she was more like a twisted version of Robin Hood, making the corrupt and greedy men of power in Gotham give up their fortunes for a better cause.
the final shot of batman standing on building as lightning strikes I think is playing tribute to the opening of the 90s cartoon series as a similar shot (the way he stands, standing on building with lightning) is used in the opening intro
That wasn't Jack the Ripper at 7:22 that was London After Midnight (1927) a notorious lost Universal Horror Film starring Lon Chaney Sr. Only stills and poster lobby cards survived. No print has ever surfaced.
I think you forgot to mention that Barbara trying to save Harley from falling off the cliff was a reference to her fate in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
I think the Actor on the set you said was a nod to 'The Lodger", I think you will find it is a nod to the Lon Chaney Sr character from the Lost film 'London after midnight' The site that Lucius Fox buys is where Bruce "Considered' building Wayne Gardens but didn't and it is Lucius's own plan that he is purchasing the land for Really liked the series
As soon as i saw Bruce Timm was involved i knew it would be good. I'm not sold on the idea of Lady Penguin but grateful that we are getting new adaptation / elseworld.
Minnie Driver as Penquin is a massive easter egg. She is connected to numerous DC actors. Her first film was Circle of Friends with Chris O'Donnell, who later was Schumacher's Robin. Nominated for an Oscar for Good Will Hunting, cowritten by Snyderverse Batman Ben Affleck She was in Bronson's Goldeneye, Brosnon was later cast as Dr Fate. Was in Phantom of The Opera, directed by Batman director Joel Schumacher and costarring Patrick Wilson, who was in the Snyderverse Aquaman movies. Was engaged to Josh Brolin, who later was cast as Jonah Hex. Was in Hard Rain with Morgan Freeman, later cast as Nolan's Lucius Fox, and Ed Asner who was DCAU Roland Dagget.
@@paulapsantos - He was happy to come back to voice the Joker in *MultiVersus* a few months ago, and in *Crisis on Infinite Earths part 3* which came out a couple weeks ago; Mark Hamill had already "officially retired" as the Joker twice before, and both times he came back when he got a good offer. Don't worry guys, he'll be back.
@@DH_Artist - I know, and I'll take this opportunity to shill one of my favorite DC shows, the 2006-2007 forgotten *Justice League: Action* , which heavily features both Mark Hamill as the Joker (and the Trickster, that Hamill played in live action in the show *The Flash* (2014) and before that, in *The Flash* 1990, neat!) "Justice League: Action" is a lot like *Batman: The Brave and the Bold* , but with the entire Justice League in the driver seat, not just our favorite non-powered vigilante... It lasts 52 episodes, followed by 22 shorter episodes, and even if I hate to use to term "underrated" since it has lost all meaning by now, but if anyone has been disappointed by "Batman: Caped Crusader" and needs some moar Conroy/Hamill goodness, then this other show is what you're looking for.
Holy crap. Thank you so very much for this most amazing breakdown. Comprehensive, educated and insightful- what else can I say. Thank you for doing what you do and how well you do it. You are appreciated. ~Bruce.
I'm halfway through and I'm loving this show! I've been waiting so long for another Batman animated series type show like this!❤ I'm so happy I love love love it!
I had to pause this video half way so I don't spoil the last 3 episodes for me! But I'm loving it so much I love this style that I fell in love with as a child and have missed for so long ,just love having a similar style show to watch again, so excited for next season! Hopefully it comes quick! 🙏
I loved this iteration. But did y'all notice that Harvey Dent's face is usually mutilated on the left side, but in this it was the right side? And that made the mutilated side of his face the "good" side of Harvey. Also, the Joker at the end sounded like Lance Henriksen.
I wouldn’t think Gentlemen Ghost was a hawkman villain, if anything it would of made more sense for him to be deadman’s villain or John Constantine, but I’m glad he’s used more as a Batman villain.
I always appreciate how quickly you all get these videos out. However, you missed several direct BTAS references during the micro fish scene: Dr. March is a reference to “On Leather Wings”, Dr. March was a bat scientist who felt bats were better than humans The “Bats in your Basement” ad was a reference to “I’ve Got Batman in My Basement”, a reviled BTAS episode that Bruce Timm HATES The Hill/ Reeves fued is a reference to Hamilton Hill, the mayor of Gotham in BTAS and Arthur Reeves, the slimy lawyer/ wannabe politician from “Mask of the Phantasm” “Valestra Associate skips town” is a reference to an original character from “Mask of the Phantasm”, for some reason a picture of Carmine Falcone from “The Batman” was shown on screen Finally, “Scientists Daughter Killed in Accident” is a reference to Karl Rossum from “Heart of Steel”. He lost his daughter in an accident and started creating robots to remove “human error”. Sorry to be “that” guy but I love BTAS and the missed facts were really bothering me. Y’all rock! Keep up the great work!
There are so many mistakes in this video, it's impossible to list them all... their biggest blunder is, IMHO, to claim that the Jim Corrigan from that show is the same Jim that becomes the Spectre. Had they read the great *Gotham Central* run, they'd know that this Jim Corrigan (created by Ed Brubaker & Greg Rucka, who both worked on "Batman: Caped Crusader" ) is a corrupt cop who had his non-corrupt colleague Crispus Allen (former partner of Renée Montoya, and who became the Spectre for a while) killed. That's how you know these channels only skim through random wikis to make these videos ASAP to make some quick cash, instead of it being a passion project made by a real fan. Friggin' culture vultures, get off mah lawn!
Finished Batman Caped Crusader and imo easy 10/10. Goodness i hope we get more than 2 seasons. Also big fan of the new takes on Harley, Barbara and Penguin hell even how Batman/Bruce treats and talks with Alfred and everyone else.
Linton Midnite aka Papa Midnite first appeared in Hellblazer #1 (1988). Also, imo it seemed kinda obvious that his outfit at the end of the episode was not only meant to resemble his look in the comics but also as a nod to the Gentleman Ghost’s comics look
I am a HUGE fan of the iconic Bruce Timm artwork for this series; Justice League, Green Lantern, etc et al. Indeed it was both new and classic simultaneously. Timm’s lines are so clean and razor sharp, they threaten to cut the very animation cels which hold them and, resonate in our mind’s eye well after they have finished playing out on screen. I can’t say enough about how prolific an artist he is; literally carrying the entire DC animated universe on his shoulders for the past 3 decades.
No one has mentioned this so I will. But Kevin Conroy had a voice Cameo in which he describes Harvey in his dream as possibly a monster. Check it out, it's crazy
Not sure if anyone noticed or mentioned it but it seems like the scarred side of Harvey's face is the "good" side. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but whenever he was calm, focused and nice the scarred side seemed to be focal point of his face. I theorize that the scarred side IS Harvey's persona as someone who did some unsavory things and is welcoming of getting his just due and the unscarred side is Two-Face's persona, the outer shell that Harvey put forward as the do-gooder.
@@DaGreenLantern0011 Thinking about it more, he earned the scarred side by being principled for once, so it fits that the scarred side of his face would represent his morally good side.
Was hesitant on this show since they had to give the Batman role to someone else since Kevin’s passing, and the reveal trailer didn’t have me stoked for the new voice, but I binged it yesterday and it’s AMAZING. Damn, I really wish Kevin could’ve gotten this chance to explore a more subdued side of Batman.
Some thing I’ve also got to add, in the submarine scene the same sub beep sound that is happening is a similar one that happened in the original West Batman movie during those sub scenes. In addition, Boris Karloff, who is obviously a similar character to clay face, he had a make up artist by the name of Jack and he looked just like the make up artist in this episode.
I caught a ton of the references and nods that the series made, and then I watched this video and you caught so much more!! Thank you for the content! Keep up the good work!
Great video. - I've Got Batman in My Basement was a B:tAS episode, more likely the reference in the microfiche - In B:tAS, Baby Doll is undone by a hall of mirrors, which may have been the callback with the same setting - No mention of Diedrich Bader voicing Harvey Dent here, where he voices Batman in Brave and the Bold and Harley Quinn
Very well done show , bring back nostalgia. Wish episodes were longer or a lil bit more character development but for fans it was a nice addition to series. I would love to see a Freeze appearance
At one point, characters are directed to "the corner of Wilson and Lowery", that's a reference to the first two actors to play Batman in live action in the 1940's. Harley called Montoya "Lady Cop", which might be a reference to a one-off DC character from the 70's.
Absolutely love this show and I’m glad ScreenCrush is covering it. I appreciate that Bruce Timm and Co. tweaked some aspects compared to other adaptations like Harley’s character, no modern tech, and the emphasis on corruption within GCPD, etc. My main complaint would be more episodes to explore themes and characters more.
Fun facts: Harvey Dent / Two Face was voiced by Diedrich Bader, who voiced The Batman in the animated series "The Brave and the Bold", and Natalia 'Nocturn' Knight was voiced by "Ghostbusters Afterlife & Frozen Empire" actress, McKenna Grace. She did a fantastic job, and I hope we can see more of her character in season 2. Some of the side characters were also voiced by Jon DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama, and Aqua-man from The Brave and the Bold)
I think Clayface's outfit is a reference to The Shadow; a pulp novel character that was the inspiration for Batman. He was often portrayed wearing a wide brim hat with a red scarf. There's another homage to The Shadow on the Grey Ghost book you pointed out. The author, Maxwell Grant, is the collective pen name used by the writers of the early Shadow stories.
I absolutely LOVE this series!! Binged it the second it dropped, have rewatched it 7 times now, most likely will again tonight for the 8th time 😂 can’t wait for s2!! I’m a huuuuge DC/Batman fan (huge is an understatement)
Since I can’t see that someone said it, the Alfred quote saying, “there’s more in heaven and earth Horatio,” actually corrects the Adam West version in quoting Hamlet!
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this but the scientist’s daughter who is killed may be Karl Rossum’s daughter. He’s the scientist who in BTAS creates Hardac.
thing is caped crusader has potential to genuinely be good, the main issue however is run time. biggest example is the Montoya n Harely pairing, it would've been nice to not only flush out their relationship but also see Montoya's reaction to dating a criminal then maybe instead of Harely saving (well attempting to) Barbara she could've had a genuine heroic moment n save Montoya, or we could've gotten a better reasin for why she was obssessed with stopping these "bad men". heck there wasn't even a clear overarching antagonist n sure maybe it was Two Face but even he (along with almost every other character) felt rushed. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed it just felt like with either more time or more episodes it could've been a great show
@@vinnie22ify true and i get that, just feel more could've been done here like maybe bring characters from older episodes to enhance connectivity. idk. but it feels like the budget was a lil too tight for all that
@@Sonnix07 Maybe it was a little rushed, but there were plenty of characters aside from the expected Batman/Bruce, Alfred, and Commissioner Gordon who made multiple episode appearances: A number of cops (both good and bad), Barbara Gordon, Harvey Dent, Harley Quinn, Thorne, and O'Brien. Also, they stated that they didn't want to make the episodes too dependent on each other so that you could watch a single episode as a self contained story (aside from the last 2 episodes). Although, I don't really agree with that for shows that are exclusively released on a streaming service and can easily be watched in order.
I felt like I was watching Batman the animated series again. I enjoyed the differences in the characters. Barbara being an attorney, Penguin being a girl, a different way of Harleen Quinzel becoming Harley Quinn.
Great vid, but you got a few Easter Eggs quite wrong: 1) The actor getting direction (top hat, sharp teeth) is an homage to Lin Chany Sr. in the silent film 'London After Midnight' 2) The makeup artist's outfit isn't based on Bruce Wayne's scientist smock. His outfit and face are based on legendary makeup artist Jack Pierce, who created Karloff's makeup for Frankenstein's monster 3) Finally, the swordfight with Karlo is an homage to the final fight between Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone from 'Robin Hood'. The clip you showed was from the 1920's 'Zorro', while Bruce's parents took him to see the 1940 version with Tyrone Power.
You missed an Easter Egg. You mention that the map in the Batcave was used in the 66 series, but it is also a reverse image of a close in map of the City of St Louis, complete with accurate locations of Lafayette Square Park, Tower Grove Park, Benton Park and Forest Park, not to mention the Mississippi River…Great episode!
Really like how Harley Quinn was written + didn't expect Harvey to sacrifice himself at the end = really good show 👌🏾 Glad Bruce Timm changed things up a bit so it's not exactly BTAS...only heavily inspired by the legendary series. That being said, I'm SO glad & refreshed to have seen a new take on this established IP that stays faithful to what's come before it 🙏🏾😃 I hope Star Wars can return to form like that someday.
In episode 5 Harley mentions a club being on Wilson and Lowery which is a reference to the first two actors to play Batman in the 1940's Lewis Wilson and Robert Lowery. In a later episode the name Dozier is mentioned which is probably a reference to William Dozier the man who created the 1966 Batman TV series.
The love the episode that all the orphan kid's at the circus were named after all the Robin's. Dickie, Jason, Stephanie, and Carrie. Nice touch Carrie saved Batman with her slingshot. I loved the series
God this show is just fantastic! Stacked team on this production too, I love seeing the OG Bat suit, other than the purple gloves missing but yea, 10/10
In episode 5 Harleen tells Montoya to meet her at Wilson and Lowery before having to leave their date abruptly. Likely a nod to Lewis Wilson and Robert Lowery, the first 2 live action Batman actors.
I like how they hid the car like in back to the future when they hid the delorean. Also loved the homage to Carrie from the dark knight returns by frank Miller
idk if anyone mentioned this before but the restaurant scene and the shooting at Thorne's house involving Dent looked so much inspired by famous and renowned scenes from the film Scarface [another hint there to another one of the numerous rogues]
Love when they called all the robins a handful. Thought that episode was great. The original series is my favorite version of Batman, and this series is the closest I’ve seen capture that feel.
Surprised that you didn't mention the one reporter that resembles Lois Lane from the 1930's Fleischer Studios Superman cartoon (she's in two episodes, one of them she's interviewing Harvey Dent after The Gentleman Ghost robs the passengers on the train).
It's not a reference to Lincoln March It's a reference to Dr.March, Francine Langstrom's father from BTAS who believed bats were the next step in evolution
The series is incredible. I have no words. It’s so so good. I watched it all in one day. Everything is amazing. And that last scene with the batarang and Thorne! It gave me goosebumps! And that teasing at the end… It just saddens me to think about how long now it will take to have a second season…
I really liked this series. It’s Batman at his truest conception, the way the creators intended him to be. Not the way he is portrayed now with the “Batman can beat anyone with prep time” plot armor. Well done.
1. There was a reference to Dozier boulevard or avenue or something...as in William Dozier, Producer. Of Batman '66. 2. There was also of reference to O'Hara as in Chief O'Hara from the same series. Great video! I love the series so far. I am ready for more already.
Some notes: -It's not Jack the ripper in The Lodger, but the vampire in the lost London after midnight with Lon Chaney. There's a recreation of a famous Lon Chaney photo in one of the dressing rooms at some point in that same episode. -The Jack Ellman is modeled after Jack Pierce, the makeup artist at Universal who created the Frankenstein makeup for Boris Karloff. -Val Lewton was the producer of Cat People. -There's several classic 40's comic panels in the police board. -The add for bats in the basement is a reference to the infamous BTAS episode I've got Batman in my basement. It even mentions Sherman, the kid detective from that episode. -John Tuturro doesn't play Sal Valestra in The Batman, but Carmine Falcone. -Papa Midnite first appeared in Hellblazer #1 in the late 80's. -At some point (I don't remember which episode) an address is given as "on Wilson and Lowery". Lewis Wilson was the first actor to play Batman in the 1943 Columbia serial and Robert Lowery played him in the 1949 serial. -The reporter who asks Bruce about Dent at the carnival looks a lot like the original Vicki Vale. -The Gray Ghost book Alfred is reading is by Max Grantwell. Maxwell Grant was the seudonym Walter Gibson used as the author of The Shadow.

James Tucker 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
This. To say she's come into her own would be an understatement. She doesn't need joker.
You can make anything you want with the characters, as long you respect their spirit. Something Snyder never understood.
Really hope we get to see Scarecrow, Manbat and Hugo Strange next season along with the return of Harley and Catwoman
I want to see raj al Goul, joker which I know is coming and Deadshot
the final shot of batman standing on building as lightning strikes I think is playing tribute to the opening of the 90s cartoon series as a similar shot (the way he stands, standing on building with lightning) is used in the opening intro
oh realllly
@@whatcomesafter9389 i know it was obvious but if ryan didnt mention it...maybe he didnt notice
The Jocosta Nu joke was top tier, laughed so hard haha.
Same
That wasn't Jack the Ripper at 7:22 that was London After Midnight (1927) a notorious lost Universal Horror Film starring Lon Chaney Sr. Only stills and poster lobby cards survived. No print has ever surfaced.
Hell yeah!!! Thanks for covering this show!!!
9:29 I thought she was cryptically calling him a "C" word; but of course Doug knew what she was doing. Nice.
Papa Midnite's first appearance was in Hellblazer #1 not as part of the New 52.
I think you forgot to mention that Barbara trying to save Harley from falling off the cliff was a reference to her fate in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
I think the Actor on the set you said was a nod to 'The Lodger", I think you will find it is a nod to the Lon Chaney Sr character from the Lost film 'London after midnight'
The site that Lucius Fox buys is where Bruce "Considered' building Wayne Gardens but didn't and it is Lucius's own plan that he is purchasing the land for
Really liked the series
I wanna say Basils look is a reference to the 1930s Radio drama "The Shadow"
Sure is. I said the same thing, then came looking for others that happened to catch that, and here you are lol.
Came here to say that!
Real recognizes real
I thought the exact same thing. Though I immediately pictured Alec Baldwin in the 94 film.
@@johnnygraves4118 haha damn right
As soon as i saw Bruce Timm was involved i knew it would be good.
Nominated for an Oscar for Good Will Hunting, cowritten by Snyderverse Batman Ben Affleck
She was in Bronson's Goldeneye, Brosnon was later cast as Dr Fate.
It's sad that Mark Hamill can't be the joker anymore but it would have been nice if there was a reference to him!
Why can’t he?
@@alschroed1992 I've heard he doesn't want to play Joker anymore since Kevin Conroy died.
@@paulapsantos - He was happy to come back to voice the Joker in *MultiVersus* a few months ago, and in *Crisis on Infinite Earths part 3* which came out a couple weeks ago;
Mark Hamill had already "officially retired" as the Joker twice before, and both times he came back when he got a good offer.
Don't worry guys, he'll be back.
@@randallflagg3700idk man… each time he said he retired Joker he came back because Kevin was in. They’ve been VA partners for 30 years,
@@DH_Artist - I know, and I'll take this opportunity to shill one of my favorite DC shows, the 2006-2007 forgotten *Justice League: Action* , which heavily features both Mark Hamill as the Joker
(and the Trickster, that Hamill played in live action in the show *The Flash* (2014) and before that, in *The Flash* 1990, neat!)
"Justice League: Action" is a lot like *Batman: The Brave and the Bold* , but with the entire Justice League in the driver seat, not just our favorite non-powered vigilante...

It would be great to see if that comes about. But he was a criminal who turned good .
6:24 the outfit Clayface wears, looks more like a nod at "The Shadow" to me. Black hat, black coat, red scarf. Seems to line up there a bit.
Yes, what I thought to.
Surprised and blown away at how good this show is! The production and talent level is through the roof. Stoked for many more!
This show was like B:TAS & Batman: Year One had a golden age baby. Basil Karlo's outfit is lifted DIRECTLY from "The Shadow".
I always appreciate how quickly you all get these videos out. However, you missed several direct BTAS references during the micro fish scene:
Dr. March is a reference to “On Leather Wings”, Dr. March was a bat scientist who felt bats were better than humans
The “Bats in your Basement” ad was a reference to “I’ve Got Batman in My Basement”, a reviled BTAS episode that Bruce Timm HATES
The Hill/ Reeves fued is a reference to Hamilton Hill, the mayor of Gotham in BTAS and Arthur Reeves, the slimy lawyer/ wannabe politician from “Mask of the Phantasm”
“Valestra Associate skips town” is a reference to an original character from “Mask of the Phantasm”, for some reason a picture of Carmine Falcone from “The Batman” was shown on screen
Finally, “Scientists Daughter Killed in Accident” is a reference to Karl Rossum from “Heart of Steel”.
20:54 That’s a trumpet, Ryan. Now I see why the other hosts hate you, Ryan. Learn your instruments.
Beat me to it
Linton Midnite aka Papa Midnite first appeared in Hellblazer #1 (1988).
Hopefully we get another Bruce Timm and Paul Dini episode. Their collaboration was some of the best BTAS epusodes.
I want Paul Dini to write a episode of Batman: Caped Crusader
It would fight right in ...the Dini/Timm shows were the best ones from BTAS
Hopefully in Season 2 👀
No one has mentioned this so I will. But Kevin Conroy had a voice Cameo in which he describes Harvey in his dream as possibly a monster. Check it out, it's crazy
Yes I heard that too.
Great series. No mention of the Fleischer Lois Lane showing up? That was my favorite Easter egg.
I noticed the same.
Maybe that's why the animators chose to scar the 'other side of his face, compared to most previous depictions.
@@DaGreenLantern0011 Thinking about it more, he earned the scarred side by being principled for once, so it fits that the scarred side of his face would represent his morally good side.
Definitely enjoying it I'm watching it with my brother again we're only a few episodes in so he hasn't been spoiled yet on everything coming.
I always loved the style of TAS. I like that this series is like a gritty, grown-up version.
I caught a ton of the references and nods that the series made, and then I watched this video and you caught so much more!! Thank you for the content! Keep up the good work!
Great video.
- I've Got Batman in My Basement was a B:tAS episode, more likely the reference in the microfiche
- In B:tAS, Baby Doll is undone by a hall of mirrors, which may have been the callback with the same setting
- No mention of Diedrich Bader voicing Harvey Dent here, where he voices Batman in Brave and the Bold and Harley Quinn
I am glad they brought back King Tut
Very well done show , bring back nostalgia. Wish episodes were longer or a lil bit more character development but for fans it was a nice addition to series. I would love to see a Freeze appearance
At one point, characters are directed to "the corner of Wilson and Lowery", that's a reference to the first two actors to play Batman in live action in the 1940's.
Harley called Montoya "Lady Cop", which might be a reference to a one-off DC character from the 70's.
Bats in the Basement is a nod to the episode I've Got Batman in My Basement. Kid was even named Sherman just like the exterminator company.
I chortled at “Jocasta Nu.” But - love this series - this was one of the best projects of the streaming age. Incredible work.
The Hill newspaper clipping was a reference to the Mayoral race with Hamilton Hill in BTAS
Don't get me wrong i enjoyed it just felt like with either more time or more episodes it could've been a great show
Season 2 bro , season 2 of a Batman series are always the best.
Although, I don't really agree with that for shows that are exclusively released on a streaming service and can easily be watched in order.
thank you so much for this video, I really hope for a season 2 from this one
I felt like I was watching Batman the animated series again. I enjoyed the differences in the characters. Barbara being an attorney, Penguin being a girl, a different way of Harleen Quinzel becoming Harley Quinn.
Great vid, but you got a few Easter Eggs quite wrong:
1) The actor getting direction (top hat, sharp teeth) is an homage to Lin Chany Sr. in the silent film 'London After Midnight'
2) The makeup artist's outfit isn't based on Bruce Wayne's scientist smock. His outfit and face are based on legendary makeup artist Jack Pierce, who created Karloff's makeup for Frankenstein's monster
3) Finally, the swordfight with Karlo is an homage to the final fight between Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone from 'Robin Hood'.
The clip you showed was from the 1920's 'Zorro', while Bruce's parents took him to see the 1940 version with Tyrone Power.
7:20 Looks more like Burke from London after midnigth.
Thought this show was a great evolution of the animated series
The Forgotten is one of my favorite episodes of BTAS.
7:25 The actor was dressed like the vampire from London After Midnight. Not Jack the Ripper.
Such a brilliant show, having everything nerfed game a sense of making it feel real
Really like how Harley Quinn was written + didn't expect Harvey to sacrifice himself at the end = really good show 👌🏾
Glad Bruce Timm changed things up a bit so it's not exactly BTAS...only heavily inspired by the legendary series. That being said, I'm SO glad & refreshed to have seen a new take on this established IP that stays faithful to what's come before it 🙏🏾😃 I hope Star Wars can return to form like that someday.
Such a great season every episode was well written and the complete story was fantastic. Thank you screencrush team for putting this together 😊
It was a great show. Excited for season 2!
7:23 I think they were actually paying homage to lon Chaneys character in after midnight
This was amazing. I need more seasons regularly!
Just noticed this in your review. Harley writing “see you next Tuesday” is really wild that they put in and potentially a very adult Easter Egg!
I love the show. Great take on the Batman universe. The 40s time period is a great aesthetic choice and allows Batman to truly be a detective
The series is incredible. I have no words. It’s so so good. I watched it all in one day. Everything is amazing. And that last scene with the batarang and Thorne! It gave me goosebumps! And that teasing at the end… It just saddens me to think about how long now it will take to have a second season…
Loved the Firefly/Firebug joke!
Some notes:
-It's not Jack the ripper in The Lodger, but the vampire in the lost London after midnight with Lon Chaney.
Not Jocasta Nu as the librarian 😂😂😂💀💀
It's not right, but I can't say it's wrong: Why did that make us laugh so much?!
You better make sure you get around to doing a video of season two Easter Easter eggs when season two comes out soon I hope
I was waiting for you to talk about the voice actor for Harvey is also a batman. He was batman the brave and the bold. Diedrich Bader
