100% in agreement on "Love is a Croc" being the worst. A failure as a sequel to one of the GOAT episodes, a Flanderization and character assassination of Baby Doll (and a creepy-in-a-bad-way character redesign, to boot). It's fuckin' lame, closest thing to a bad episode I could really point to across BTAS/TNBA. Also: "Perchance to Dream" and "The Laughing Fish" are my two favourite episodes as well. Damn, son. In particular, the premise of "The Laughing Fish" is so absurd and in-character for the Joker, I chuckle every time just thinking about it.
Even as a kid I found “Beware the Creeper” very irritating and out of place in the world of BTAS. “Appointment in Crime Alley” and “Dreams in Darkness” were always favorites of mine if forced to choose.
Too true. I grew up in the 2000s, so I only saw a couple of episodes on WB Kids when I was young. I didn't really get to experience the series in full until I was an adult, so I can honestly say (with no nostalgia bias talking) that I consider it to be the definitive version of Batman. I still enjoy other adaptations of the character, but I doubt anything will ever come along to top this series.
I don’t necessarily have a favorite episode of BTAS, but an episode that I think is underrated is a Bullet for Bullock. I like it because it explores Bullock, a character that’s more for comic relief in the show. Another aspect I like about the episode is its jazzy musical score.
Bullet for bullock is my personal favourite episode. The classic noir mystery tone and vibe are perfect and i love that it shifts focus onto bullock with batman being more of a supporting character. It’s so much fun
I saw this in my feed and was like “Every episode ranked? Meh.” Then I saw it was uploaded by Eyebrow Cinema, and now I’m gonna watch it first thing when I get home.
Batman “condemning” Clayface isn’t out of some rigid moral structure, but because Matt Hagan is a dangerous criminal who cannot be permitted such power without limit. Even before he became Clayface, Hagan committed crimes on behalf of Roland Daggettto continue his addiction to the chemical that allowed his face to appear unblemished, and he was willing to go so far as to be an accessory to murder (if not straight up murder) an innocent man for him. While the tragedy of Hagan as an addict and a victim of Daggett is there, we cannot let that overshadow what a bad person he is. The isotope wouldn’t restore him to human form, but permit him unprecedented control over his powers, which would surely permit the morally corrupt Hagan to be unstoppable. Batman was willing to help him, but not on Hagan’s terms. And to further drive the point home on how much of a monster Hagan was, he attempted to murder Batman by suffocating him, going so far as to laugh maniacally at his horrific act.
Agreed. Even in "Growing Pains", he hasn't qualms in assimilates Annie, despite to that she become a person in her own, yet, he still want to reclaim his "belonging." Even, as Robin muttered to the end, Clayface should be charged also for murder.
I always loved that Simon Trent was the only man Bruce ever revealed his identity too voulentarily. Its just such a sweet note to end on, Bruce telling him without stating it out right, as if to say "your a good man, I know you'll keep this secret safe". Agh Grey Ghost is such a good episode.
I know I'm in the minority but I like the Bane episode quite a lot. Bane is basically an evil luchador, and many of the moves during the fight resemble pro wrestling. It is obvious that the writers were having fun at the expense of the character, so I think your enjoyment depends on how much you wanted to see comic book Bane vs this version. Still, while I''m not a big fan of the character, I get that if you are a fan you may feel frustrated by the episode.
You’re my favorite film analyst, reviewer, and overall video essayist TH-camr. You scratch a specific niche for me, whether it be Sergio Leone films to Batman the animated series, it’s insane how much our tastes overlap. Your videos I always come back to, and even your letterboxd reviews are the takes on films I trust more than any others I see on that app. You just get it and I love that. Keep making videos. Your video style influenced my own video essay on the Neo westerns of 2007. I just want to say I wish you the best, you make great content.
Any Harvey episode will always be my fave in this show. He’s criminally underused imo especially with the Bruce/Harvey dynamic which imo should always be part their characters
The Laughing Fish is a perfect number one. If you were to pick one episode to introduce someone new to Batman or just the animated series, it’s great caper with action, comedy, and danger. I actually could never figure out my favorite episode. I usually come back to Joker’s Favor, Riddler’s Reform, and the Two Face Duology as the first ones I think of.
I'm gonna defend "Old Wounds" a bit. I think what pushed Nightwing over the edge was that he felt that Bruce subtly manipulated Barbara into becoming a costumed vigilante and that Bruce may have done the same to him as a child. And yeah, this isn't really true, but it's understandable that he would believe it given his diminishing trust in Bruce. Stuff like the scene where Batman interrogates the henchman in front of his family could be why Nightwing would assume the worst. I do like how neither side is 100% wrong or right in this conflict and I thought it was compelling. Loved the video btw
I love the Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne Episode I laugh of the Hugo Strange Trick where Batman Replaces his identity tape with one with Hugo Strange saying that he’s scamming the villains which Enraged them
I love that they reference the Castle in the Sky robot, as that design was inspired by a robot in one of the Fleischer Superman cartoons. It's fun to see an influence come full circle. Speaking of the amazing clay face sequence was done by TMS, the studio Miyazaki worked with before forming Ghibli.
This just got me thinking Rupert Thorne is a pretty underrated character. And the way they use him to introduce a handful of villains makes sense as he would be the top dawg in town in terms of organized crime lending to that 40s noir tone. Also count how much imagery Nolan straight up lifted from this show for his films
This is such a good recap of the episodes. I've always wanted to do a video like this and review each episode but this ranking is perfect. Such a good job/ranking and a truly great nostalgia trip as well. Just 10/10 video thank you for making this.
1:52:29 It is a misconception that Spiderman couldn't throw a punch in his own show. He could, and he does occasionally. But the creators simply chose not to have him punch and do more grappling. Same thing with guns really, they weren't forbidden from showing guns. It's just that they chose to use laser guns. It's a creative choice, maybe one made with kids in mind but a creative choice nonetheless. They certainly were allowed to show things like guns or punches as much as Batman. I wouldn't usually harp on this, as I do consider it a mostly harmless misconception. Except I know some of the creators have voiced grievances at this misconception.
I’m sorry it’s such a dumb critique that it doesn’t make sense for Bruce Wayne to go skeet shooting. Batman doesn’t use guns because he’s already tipping far too close to the line of vigilantism, and he doesn’t kill bad guys. Bruce Wayne would have no problem with guns especially in the context of hobby shooting.
Batman doesn't just seem to hate shooting people though, he seems to hate guns period. So I wouldn't take him for someone that enjoys hobbies like skeet shooting.
@@grey_f98 If Martha and Thomas Wayne had been stabbed to death would Batman not cut his food with a knife? Guns are a destructive tool, Batman is mentally scarred from the senseless violence he experienced first hand. That doesn’t mean he would hate the use of guns. I hope I’ll continue to live my life never shooting anyone but I don’t feel baggage from shooting paper targets.
@@stardogbillionaire not comparable, a knife is a cooking equipment for most people before it is a weapon, a kitchen knife is not a carrying knife, but guns are guns period, all of them are for violence, even if you are shooting inanimate objects for fun, it just doesn't fit Bruce that's all
@@grey_f98 well he’s a fictional character so we can all interpret the character in different ways. But for me Batman’s no gun rule works in the logic that he can’t be a Punisher/Judge Dredd type.
Great ranking! Ugh I adore this series. Some of my absolute favorite episodes include Feat of Clay, Two-Face, The Laughing Fish, Christmas with the Joker, Robin’s Reckoning, If You’re So Smart, Why Arent’t You Rich, Trial, Almost Got ‘Im, and The Mechanic.
My favourite episode is the introduction of Clock King for the fact of my expectations being quite low for it and it then blowing my mind. The whole concept was quite comical, aspects of him felt relatable to me, and he was a believable threat while still not reaching something that makes him genuinely toe to toe with Batman's strength. It's not the best overall but it's just really good and I love it.
I'm so glad you like Fire from Olympus as much as I do!! Truly underrated. I love the theming and how much it becomes clear he's lost too deep into his own delusion and can't break out of it. Much respect!!
This is a great video! I agree with most of your ranking and those I didn't agree with, I thought you had good reasons for why you put them where you did. Thanks for awesome dive into TAS.
@paevepailbrack6899 torch song and terror in the sky. And critters ironically as that is a bad episode. I love firefly and just the style of torch song. And terror in the sky because I was happy to get another man bat episode and the snow made it feel quite distinct. It's a episode that takes its plot loosely from the bronze age I believe.
My two favourites are “Mad Love” and “Joker’s Favour.” They are just phenomenally crafted episodes! Thank you for this video. I loved it. It was a fun watch and made me realise just how good this show was / is. Batman: The Animated Series and Star Wars: The Clone Wars are two of the best animated series of all time, acting as both entertainment and life lessons for both adults and children alike.

I was waiting for where Laughing Fish would rank. I'm actually surprised that my favorite episode made #1. Laughing Fish is THE definitive Joker episode and an awesome Joker and Harley Quinn episode. Batman perfectly defines/summarizes the Joker Francis: Uh, Batman, why is this happening to me? I've never done anything to this Joker. I'm just a paper-pusher. I can't change the laws. I'm harmless. Batman: And in his sick mind, that's the joke, Mr. Francis. I personally enjoyed the 4th season with its bright color palette and its redesigns. I think if they had given red lips to the Joker everyone would have been happy with it too. The only thing I really disliked about season 4 was they turned the Penguin into a middle of the road nightclub owner and he stopped being a top tier Villain with a retro design that isn't great. I did like that they made Catwoman a villain again in season 4. My Top 10 episodes are: 1. Laughing Fish 2. Holiday Knights 3. Christmas With the Joker 4. Harley and Ivy 5. Baby-Doll 6. Mean Seasons 7. Read My Lips 8. Pretty Poison 10. Legends of the Dark Knight And like 10 more others. I really love the episodes that lean into the dark whimsical Tim Burton movies Aesthetic like Baby Doll , Two-Face, Pretty Poison, Nothing to Fear, and Heart of Ice. Besides the Joker and Harley Quinn episodes of course.
Thank you for helping me get through another Monday. Great list, here my Top 10 Episdoes: 10. Holiday Knights 9. Beware the Grey Ghost 8. Birds of a Feather 7. House and Garden 6. The Ultimate Thrill 5. Mad as a Hatter 4. Heart of Ice 3. Joker Fish 2. Trial 1. Two-Face
I’ve been waiting for someone to do a mega-ranking of every BTAS episode for a while now, so I was excited to see this one in my notifications. And it did not disappoint. Though as someone with a soft spot for a lot more of TNBA than you, some of those TNBA rankings *really* stung (Like, seriously? Old Wounds and Holiday Knights in mid-tier???). I will say it’s nice to see someone agree with me that Love is a Croc easily the worst TNBA episode and one of the worst BTAS episodes in general, though. Now, if I had to make a top 10 episodes… I don’t think it would encompass enough of my favorites, so we’re doing a Top 20 instead: -20: The Demon’s Quest -19: Growing Pains -18: On Leather Wings -17: Trial -16: Old Wounds -15: Birds of a Feather -14: Baby Doll -13: Robin’s Reckoning -12: Joker’s Millions -11: Joker’s Favor -10: The Man Who Killed Batman (Wow, 3 Joker episodes back-to-back lol) -9: Feat of Clay -8: Beware the Gray Ghost -7: Two-Face -6: Riddler’s Reform -5: Over the Edge -4: Perchance to Dream -3: Almost Got ‘Im -2: Mad Love -1: Heart of Ice (It’s a super basic pick, but I don’t really care) I will say that my entire Top 5 is pretty much tied for #1, and they change around a lot in my mind. Almost Got ‘I’m was my personal favorite as kid, though the other four have grown on me with age.
While I Don't Disagree With The Complaints With The Artstyle Changes Of TNBA, I Understand Why They Happened, To Cut Down Production Costs, And To Be Fair, It Worked! TNBA Has Some Spectacular Consistent Animatoon. Plus I Actually Love A Few Of The Redesigns, Scarecrow And Mad Hatter Are Fantastic, And While Riddler And Joker Are ... Subpar At Best, They Did Lead To The Best Designs Of Each Character, So I Can't Be Too Mad.
While I can’t say I agree with all of your takes, namely Nostromos, Underdwellers, and The Last Laugh not being bottom tier, I greatly enjoyed this video! Thank you for the effort and time you put into this!
My favorite episode/episodes from Batman the animated series is ALL OF THEM! love them all. Well not exactly all but most and I do like them all as they're all about my favorite fictional character who to me is very real. Well "you" know what I mean.
Great ranking video. I totally agree with your ranking for ‘Fire from Olympus’. I love that episode for all the reasons you mentioned, and Maxie Zeus is an underrated villain, both in the show and in the comics. He’s completely mad and delusional, theatrical, dangerous, entertaining, has a striking look, and a dash of pathos. That’s a recipe for Batman villains that works quite well. I’m surprised they never made a figure of him in the toylines.
The Laughing Fish is my favourite episode of the animated series as well for a lot of the same reasons as you said. I have a lot of nostalgic affection for it and to me it’s everything I want from an animated series episode. It has my favourite villain Joker, I love all the aquarium scenes. The plot is great and it’s a ton of fun. Also I love the fight at the end between Batman and Joker. It may not be the most emotional episode of the series but it doesn’t need to be.
This video is one long journey with full of efforts to research every BTAS episode's information and your subjective opinions. A huge respect for you, Daniel! 😊
Great list! It’s impossible to pick a favorite, but gun to my head, I think I’d go with Almost Got ’Im. Equal parts dramatic, hilarious, and clever. I shake my head in awe after every viewing.
I know it's a movie and not a episode, and not even part of the original Batman the Animated series run. But Return of Joker is really my absolutely favorite Batman story of all times. Like sure it has the greatest joker death, but while I think it's great it is what comes after that I absolutely love. One thing I grow increasingly tired of is modern Joker fanboys who echo Jokers point of "everyones just one bad day away from being just as bad as Joker" from the Killing Joke story, and missing the whole point of the killing Joke that Joker is just a pathetic loser. Gordon didn't turn into the Joker after one bad day, and while Batman became Batman after one bad day he still turned his tragedy into motivation to actually better the world. And why does Joker even care about proving this point if he doesn't feel guilt for being the Joker? You get the point. I hate when the killing joke fanboys take Joker seriously, even if none of the story reinforces his point of view and clearly communicates that his own backstory might just a load of crap given that he remembers it one way sometimes and others at other times. Anyway back to Return of Joker. The thing I do adore about when Terry finally faces off against the Joker he does not take him seriously whatsoever! There is none of that "Oh you are Batmans greatest enemy, and by beating you I will finally prove myself a worthy successor to the cowl". The whole time Terry thinks Joker is a pathetic loser, and heckles him on what a joke he is during the whole fight. And while Joker is all "I knew all of Batman and Robins moves in their prime, and you're no Batman" Terry still wins because he is willing to kick Joker below the belt X'D And also think about this. The Joker is clown themed and often with a failed comedian backstory whenever he has a backstory. And what is a comedians arch nemesis? A heckler. Terry really is the ultimate foil to the Joker isn't he? TwT
1:22:30 I do somewhat disagree with your reading of Mudslide's ending. While I agree that Batman's decision to turn the machine off was callous and the fact that he never even floats the idea of just giving Hagan the serum is very telling, but you also have to consider that, for the entire episode, Clayface hadn't given any indication that he would reform if he had the chance to become human again. His many angry outbursts at Stella and their generally dysfunctional relationship show that he was just as likely to have become a more dangerous, nigh unstoppable, villain if the serum had worked rather than just returning to normal life. I still think Batman's actions were questionable, but that aspect makes things more gray imo.
@@ClassActJack that's a good point. In some ways it makes Batman's choice even more disturbing as it makes him a moral arbiter deciding of Hagen is worthy of being human again. You could also argue that it's a touch but necessary logical choice given the increased power the formula offers could make Clayface exponentially more dangerous. In some ways he is protecting the city by denying Clayface the formula even it's a disturbing use of power. As you point out, morally gray.
The Lock Up disrespect was shocking. Also, I feel like he penalized the Revamp era a little too much. I would have placed Never Fear, Mad Love and especially Over the Edge way higher.
1:30:10 It was made by tms a Japanese studio who aside from doing a lot of anime also did a lit of warner animation stuff And another example of their western work was working with a Canadian studio to bring Cybersix to life The animation is gorgeous
Holy crap… Christmas just came early, boys! I don’t really rank this show, but, I really love the episodes, “Robin’s Reckoning”, “Heart of Ice”, “Almost Got ‘im,”, “Two-Face”, “Beware the Gray Ghost” (Adam West is my favourite Batman so I love literally anything with him) and basically any episode with Mark Hamill as the Joker. And Daniel, if you see this, are you excited about Batman: Caped Crusader? Personally I am, I think it looks fun.
I'm very excited for Caped Crusader. Worked out perfectly that just as I was finishing one Bruce Timm-produced animated Batman series a new one entered my orbit.
I'm amazed at how many episodes I vividly still remember even though I haven't seen any of them this century. Perchance to dream was my favorite. And I really liked the ending where the ventriloquist was carving a new puppet.
In defense of the portrayal of Cassidy in Torch Song, they were intending for the trauma for this episode to make her into a new Firefly who would be more menacing, but never got around to it in TNBA. The concept art does exist of Cassidy Firefly though.
One thing I have to credit this show is its portrayal of peril. Innocent people that are captured almost never die, but the darkness and gripping nature of the show constantly make you forget that, so you're worried for them every time. Definitely a hallmark of its excellent storytelling.
If you had watched the TMNT 2003 episode Lone Raph and Cub, In that episode Raphael was temporarily blind, similar to the BTAS episode Blind as a Bat. Only difference is that Raph needed a kid to tell him where to go and see where he fights.
Dick's falling out wasn't just because Bruce knew Barbara was Batgirl. That was the straw that broke the camel's back because in that same episode he missed Dick's College graduation, called him while he was on a date with her, and went too far during the interrogation that episode.
@@MoodKapProductions Agree, not to mention he says the reason Robin is upset is because he didn't tell him about Barbara being Catwoman. He left out Batman demanding he leave his date with Barbara, slapping up the guy in front of his wife and kid and also not showing up to his graduation. It's a pretty importantley big episode. It's the birth of Nightwing also. It's a 9.5 to 10 episode. It's PHENOMENAL.
I watched this video in its entirety a couple weeks ago, so I'm sure you won't see this comment. But in case you do: I genuinely found your critiques and comments so thoughtful, mature, and succinct that half the time I was just convinced you must have plagiarized from other sources (and I mean that as a compliment). You really have an intelligent and satisfying way of explaining your thoughts: You make a point of pointing out the highlights of each episode, even the bad ones; and, You point out key points in the history of the series, the history of the medium, and the history of these characters, providing key context for viewers - especially younger viewers - who may not know how this series fits into the larger picture of this now-overplayed universe. I don't know why this video was pushed out to me by the TH-cam algorithm, but I'm glad it was. I'd love to see you do a similar project for Batman Beyond or the Justice League+Unlimited shows. Great work, truly.
For me "I am the Night" was my favorite, seeing and hearing what Bruce said to Jim while he was in his coma was very touching, it also was just so shocking, for once someone was greatly hurt in the war on crime
I think the reason for doing 'HOLIDAY KNIGHTS' as the opening episode is because it was the first annual of the 'The Batman Adventures' a comic run written to be in cannon with the tv show, with most of the writers working on the comic stories. I think they did this as a wink to the people who read the book, considering it is one of the better issues. This would also explain the Sub Zero plot hole because it came out in 1994 or 1995, I believe before the Sub Zero movie came out. Fun fact Sub Zero was later adapted in the run, in the rebranded title 'The Batman and Robin Adventures", which changed over when the show changed it's name.
The Jokers Favor is my favorite. Watching it as a kid, it was great to see how a regular everyday person got caught up in the jokers business. Literally the one time he chooses to stop getting walked all over, he crosses Joker and it's awesome to see it unfold. Charles Michael Collins is the 🐐
The thing I hated most about Love is a Croc is that Mary Dahl grew enamored with (the idea of) Killer Croc because he was purportedly someone like her: someone who had a lot more depth than people were willing to engage with due to their appearance. But then, when she hooks up with him, she starts acting like a child instead of the grown woman she wants to be seen as? In regards to the Bane episode, you're correct: the tie-in comics show that Thorne did in fact try to kill both Candice and Bane. I don't remember if Candice actually died, though. I think Second Chance is as good of a Robin episode as it is a Two-Face one.
fun facts about SEE NO EVIL. Elizabeth Moss went to on star in 2019 horror movie The Invisible Man by Lee Wanell. Wanell must have been a fan because many of of the visuals from that movie are lifted straight from this episode (paint on the invisible man, rain on the invisible man, etc).
I imagine Batman keeps guns to study them. Know your enemy and all that. He probably even can shoot pretty well just to have a better understanding of the people he'll be fighting
As much as they may vary in quality, I do aprecciate the more child friendly or child related episodes. BTAS and Batman as a whole, as much as we adults try to kidnapp the chatacter's sensibilities, is a creation for children and teenagers, a power fantasy, and one that specially relates to children (Batman's origin is a child trauma; he is the first super hero to have a sidekick, and later will be surrownded by children allies, and he is a "normal dude"). The basement one is specially interesting by the way it combines childhood fantasies: having a secret pet and being a superhero.
Loved this, and I'd love more DCAU content if you were interested in making it. BTAS is phenomenal, but I think a lot of the DCAU lives up to the quality bar and doesn't get the same level of attention.
18:50 They could be Alfred's or his Father's. And knowledge of how the guns work is crucial in disarming them. Some things gotta be felt and can't be gotten from a book and whatnot. Once again, Batman's not Anti-Gun. Commissioner Gordon uses a gun in Dark Knight Returns and you don't see Batman chastising him on it. He's against guns used as lazy power and not self-defense.
Couple of points I don't disagree with but in The Underdwellers the weapon the kid grabs is a blunderbuss, which is definitely an antique. As for Bruce shooting clay pigeons, he can use guns, he doesn't like them but he can shoot them well. In one of the comics he has a Robin learning to shoot them to learn first hand what they are capable of. Sort of a "know your enemy" thing. I could see him shooting clay with the villain for detective work reasons. I agree they should have been playing golf though, that would have been way better.
Fun Fact: The voice of the Joker in 'Legends of the Dark Knight' would later voice Dr. Bartholomew Wolper in The Dark Knight Returns animated movie. So he got to voice the Joker, and the Joker's therapist, who he would later kill.
When it comes to Bane, I heard the writers thought he was a one shot character, which is why he wasn’t utilized very well, although this of course doesn’t excuse your points.
One of the episodes that i liked most, it was "Joker's Favor", by the fact that it also showed a real life lesson, about be careful to insult to random person in the streets, because you can't be sure if this person is a thug that only want an excuse to harm someone, a gangster that carries a gun, or a psychopath that won't doubt in kill you, for insulted them. Much like happened to Charlie, whom to cussed out the Joker, ended in serious problems with the clown prince of crime, leading him to moves other place to lives and changed his name, showing that he was living with fear, as result for his rashness to insulted someone in the streets.
It's actually pretty iconic to put "The Laughing Fish" as a number 1. I don't know if I agree on personal level, but I completely understand. The score is crazy good, the plot is a pure grotesque, Mark Hamill performance brilliant (Joker has to be funny, not only psychopatic and there, he is!) and it actually hints the very disturbing and abusive nature of Joker and Harley's relationship. Anyway, enjoyed your ranking, a very interesting take! 🖤
What is the best episode of Batman: The Animated Series? And perhaps more spicy, what is the worst?
the only real contention i have is lockup. other than that very good and accurate list
Baby Doll is my all time #1 and Birds of a Feather was ranked too low but other than those minor gripes this was a fun video.
I’ve got Batman in my basement was always a least favorite of mine; I really enjoy if you’re so smart why aren’t you rich?
Even as a kid I found “Beware the Creeper” very irritating and out of place in the world of BTAS. “Appointment in Crime Alley” and “Dreams in Darkness” were always favorites of mine if forced to choose.
Still the best depiction of Batman and his world to this day.
Absolutely. This was my introduction to Batman as a kid. I was obsessed.
Yes this and The Batman were my favs i loved every minute of both 😊 currently rewatching BTAS
Other than the politically correct mob. Real mobs are typically not so.
@@jacobitewiseman3696 Why would i insist on that sort of realism in a cartoon?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite episode of BTAS, but an episode that I think is underrated is a Bullet for Bullock. I like it because it explores Bullock, a character that’s more for comic relief in the show. Another aspect I like about the episode is its jazzy musical score.
That’s was the first episode I watched after Kevin Conroy’s passing very underrated episode
My favorite is see no evil because it's the first I ever watched and I had it on dvd
Hope you enjoy!
@@EyebrowCinema Verdict: 👍
Just got off work with two days off ahead of me. I know what I'm doing for the next two days. Thanks for spoiling us, Daniel
Hope you dig it. And enjoy your days off!
Agreed. Even in "Growing Pains", he hasn't qualms in assimilates Annie, despite to that she become a person in her own, yet, he still want to reclaim his "belonging."
Even, as Robin muttered to the end, Clayface should be charged also for murder.
There's also Static.
Maaaaaaan, I respect so much that you made 2h long video about all Batman episodes!
I think I might actually be in the minority on "Bane." Seems a reasonably well-liked episode.
You both are totally correct I agree with both of you being minorities of Bane episode. Me I like him more on Batman Arkham trilogy games
@@TheTocuba i think you're correct about the intentions I just don't think it translates fully. Thanks for commenting!
Imagine being in Russia and overcoming country's cencorship to dowload the sound-only version of this video. In amazing times I am living.
Enjoy!
@@EyebrowCinema I will. Thanks for your content.
Hang in there
I didn’t realize that’s Elisabeth Moss was in the Batman equivalent to invisible man episode before she was in that movie The invisible man .
Hopefully she eventually plays a mother who is haunted by an invisible son so she can come full circle.
I love that episode her father creep me out
This is such a good recap of the episodes.
A nice and short video.
That's me baby. Succinct to a fault.
I like long videos like this. Gives me something to watch for awhile lol
Very good picks.
'Feat of Clay' is my all time favorites.
Edit- thanks for this. Glad I was recommended this channel. Subscribed.
I'm so glad you like Fire from Olympus as much as I do!! Truly underrated. I love the theming and how much it becomes clear he's lost too deep into his own delusion and can't break out of it. Much respect!!
A 2 hr long dive into btas with deep cut references and celeb cameos respected? Instant subscribe, great job
Been watching the show recently. It aged like fine wine.
This is a great video! I agree with most of your ranking and those I didn't agree with, I thought you had good reasons for why you put them where you did. Thanks for awesome dive into TAS.
Like 4 of my favourite episodes were in the bad. It's really intriguing to see how much we can all love a show but enjoy different parts so much
Which episodes are those? I'm only in the mid so far, but have agreed with most of his takes, so I'm curious
@@matthew6851Torch Song is one of my favorites from the New series.
ok but a Lock-Up modern version would maybe be a cool villain, I feel with a good writter and a redesign the concept could work a lot

This is an epic feat. Thanks for collecting all this in one place for me to watch whenever I want to relive Batman TAS.
I'm a queer man, and I think the Joel Schumacher joke is funny.
I was waiting for where Laughing Fish would rank. I'm actually surprised that my favorite episode made #1. Laughing Fish is THE definitive Joker episode and an awesome Joker and Harley Quinn episode. Batman perfectly defines/summarizes the Joker
Francis: Uh, Batman, why is this happening to me?
My Top 10 episodes are:
1. Laughing Fish
2. Holiday Knights
3. Christmas With the Joker
4. Harley and Ivy
5. Baby-Doll
6. Mean Seasons
7. Read My Lips
8. Pretty Poison
10. Legends of the Dark Knight
And like 10 more others. I really love the episodes that lean into the dark whimsical Tim Burton movies Aesthetic like Baby Doll , Two-Face, Pretty Poison, Nothing to Fear, and Heart of Ice. Besides the Joker and Harley Quinn episodes of course.
You should seriously do all the Suprman and Justice League shows well

@@EyebrowCinema Your welcome 🙂👍
I really like 'almost got em' top 10 for me
I’ve been waiting for someone to do a mega-ranking of every BTAS episode for a while now, so I was excited to see this one in my notifications.
Now, if I had to make a top 10 episodes… I don’t think it would encompass enough of my favorites, so we’re doing a Top 20 instead:
-20: The Demon’s Quest
-19: Growing Pains
-18: On Leather Wings
-17: Trial
-16: Old Wounds
-15: Birds of a Feather
-14: Baby Doll
-13: Robin’s Reckoning
-12: Joker’s Millions
-11: Joker’s Favor
-10: The Man Who Killed Batman (Wow, 3 Joker episodes back-to-back lol)
-9: Feat of Clay
-8: Beware the Gray Ghost
-7: Two-Face
-6: Riddler’s Reform
-5: Over the Edge
-4: Perchance to Dream
-3: Almost Got ‘Im
-2: Mad Love
-1: Heart of Ice (It’s a super basic pick, but I don’t really care)
I will say that my entire Top 5 is pretty much tied for #1, and they change around a lot in my mind. Almost Got ‘I’m was my personal favorite as kid, though the other four have grown on me with age.
Excellent top 20.
Such an incredible series that my all time favorite episode only made it to your #12. Thank you for the fun walk down memory lane.
Great job of compiling . I've been a Batman fan since '64. Movies cartoons, he's a great story.
I loooove "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?"
This video is one long journey with full of efforts to research every BTAS episode's information and your subjective opinions. A huge respect for you, Daniel! 😊
I think we all knew that heart of ice would make the top ten
Great list! It’s impossible to pick a favorite, but gun to my head, I think I’d go with Almost Got ’Im. Equal parts dramatic, hilarious, and clever. I shake my head in awe after every viewing.
Wow. This was a phenomenal video. I thought I was going to just quickly look at it before clicking away, but the video really engrossed me.
And while Joker is all "I knew all of Batman and Robins moves in their prime, and you're no Batman" Terry still wins because he is willing to kick Joker below the belt X'D
And also think about this.
This might be the most bizarre episode ranking I have ever seen for the show ever. But hey you do you.
The Lock Up disrespect was shocking. Also, I feel like he penalized the Revamp era a little too much. I would have placed Never Fear, Mad Love and especially Over the Edge way higher.
@@nateds7326 Over the Edge at 34 is wild. That is a top 10 episode, free.

It was made by tms a Japanese studio who aside from doing a lot of anime also did a lit of warner animation stuff
And another example of their western work was working with a Canadian studio to bring Cybersix to life
The animation is gorgeous
I actually love the Farmer Brown episode, but I think that you did a fantastic job at reviewing the show.
binged the show recently and everytime I saw that Paul Dini wrote the script for the episode I'd kick my feet in the air with excitement like a kid
I love this show a lot, it was the first show I ever watched in its entirety all by myself.
Best 90s Superhero Cartoon
After dat 2nd and 3rd are gargoyles x-men
I'm amazed at how many episodes I vividly still remember even though I haven't seen any of them this century. Perchance to dream was my favorite. And I really liked the ending where the ventriloquist was carving a new puppet.
This is a video I never knew I needed.
I would’ve put showdown way higher, that episode just stands out from the norm in an awesome way
Fun fact: the voice of Alfred, Efrem Zimbalist Jr, was an FBI informant who starred in the long-running Quinn Martin show "The FBI" from 1965-74.
In defense of the portrayal of Cassidy in Torch Song, they were intending for the trauma for this episode to make her into a new Firefly who would be more menacing, but never got around to it in TNBA. The concept art does exist of Cassidy Firefly though.
Put this on as background noise but ended up watching the whole thing. Great analysis and well thought out arguments!
One thing I have to credit this show is its portrayal of peril. Innocent people that are captured almost never die, but the darkness and gripping nature of the show constantly make you forget that, so you're worried for them every time. Definitely a hallmark of its excellent storytelling.
I did this myself but wrote it up. Solid list!!!

Yeah, that ranking for that episode was my biggest pet peeve. That episode is top 20-10 quality.
@@Ingenuity009 yeah it felt like there was a clear bias towards anything in the revamp era
Fantastic video!
I binged this over the summer and I’m on the last season now
Penchance to dream, dreams in darkness.. these episodes always stood out for me.. amazing show all round, definitive batman.
We all know the Joker redesign was awful, but I forgot how terrible Cat-Woman's was! She looks like one of the Animaniacs!
I loved Cape and cowl conspiracy. Not every episode has to have some A list costumed villain.
fun facts about SEE NO EVIL. Elizabeth Moss went to on star in 2019 horror movie The Invisible Man by Lee Wanell. Wanell must have been a fan because many of of the visuals from that movie are lifted straight from this episode (paint on the invisible man, rain on the invisible man, etc).
Doing the Lord’s work bringing us this content, bro.
46:12 This is one of the redesigns I actually like.
Loved this, and I'd love more DCAU content if you were interested in making it. BTAS is phenomenal, but I think a lot of the DCAU lives up to the quality bar and doesn't get the same level of attention.
Tbh I prefer the redesigns especially scare crow, only one I don't really like us penguin's

They could be Alfred's or his Father's.
I never expected "jaded actress takes revenge" to be a theme in the show
Fun Fact: The voice of the Joker in 'Legends of the Dark Knight' would later voice Dr.
This show is so damn good the roller coaster of emotions that this show gives you easily makes it the greatest TV show of all time
Seal boy from 58 was a core memory unlocked wtf
The Last Laugh music is a riff off Star Wars Imperial March and the actual pilot episode featured Scarecrow
The drawings for the sections were cool. I liked the section drawings. 👍
I was waiting on "Perchance to Dream" because that one is my favorite.
Glad to see it finished so highly.
It's fantastic.
