Instead he says he can “tap the fourth wall” and just states the name of a movie that ryan Reynolds starred in… that’s all. He does not make a witty comment, just looks into the camera and says a movie name. So it’s funny because it’s so not funny.
Thought this movie was a just a ton of fun: action, adventure, comedy, banging soundtrack and a bit of sentimental gravitas as well Everything worked for me - 9.5/10. My wife (who is not really a comic book person) gave it an 8/10. Anyone who hates on this movie is just trying too hard to be a hater.
Chris Evans' Human Torch was my favourite cameo. And Deadpool saying "keep my country name out of your fucking mouth" wasmy favourite joke. Only I laughed in the theater.

I was laughing my ass off in the theater (and was the only one) because I thought the same thing. It’s a very clever “forget Peter spell” joke. Never thought it was cuz of any Sony contracts.
I agreed at first except that it specifically establishes with the desk calendar in the movie that the scene takes place in March of 2018 (right before infinity war)... which is why they reference Tony being alive and possibly coming to the meeting, and in 2018 peter parker was not yet forgotten away
The sling ring Cassandra used had the reality and time stone embedded on each side. Reality and time powers being the obvious choice for what’s necessary to break the barrier into/ out of the void. and with characters like strange getting pruned it’s not a mystery where she got the stones either

You’re awesome Ryan, I’m the same age as you (39-40?) and I can relate to when you say you get nostalgic about the original X-Men and Spider Man movies because that’s what we grew up with in high school and I just remember how stoked I was when I saw X2 as a senior. It was just so epic I remember and I couldn’t find a single thing wrong with it. It’s crazy that X-Men Last Stand could’ve been so good if Bryan Singer did that instead of the terrible Superman movie in 2006. I remember how shockingly bad it was at the time…only for 2 years later the amazing iron man movie came out. Wow them’s were good times being in high school/college beginning to mid 2000’s. I do not envy any kids growing up now or were born in the 90’s and later. Life was fun as a kid when it was simpler, with far less things to worry over.
You forgot to mention that Deadpool literally headbutts the screen and cracks it, showing that not only is he breaking the 4th wall, he's talking directly to the audience and views the world as a set with his scenes taking place in real time.
@@TheFilmSpace1 No, not obviously. It is different from being aware. It is elevating it to real-time interaction, while including the physical elements of the camera and film and screwing with time relationships. Lots of interesting implications.
I appreciate the fact that this movie wasn't about Deadpool & Wolverine on a trip through the MCU, but instead on a trip through the graveyard of the late 90s, early 2000s movies that were sold off to various studios when Marvel faced bankruptcy. The theme of failure perfectly weaves everything together in a much more meaniful way than I ever expected from what I thought for sure was going to be mindless dumb fun from a comedy duo. It really does feel like Feige wanted the boys to emphasize their common ground and bid farewell to an era that laid the foundation of flops their empire was built on.
They actually didn’t bid farewell to anything. There is already talk of another DEADPOOL movie with WOLVERINE . I just hope it doesn’t take another 6 years to make.
I completely agree with your perspective! This film goes beyond just being another installment in the MCU by diving into a deeper narrative that resonates with the history of Marvel itself. The focus on the late 90s and early 2000s movies, combine all the existing Marvel movies together and the idea of exploring the “graveyard” of Marvel’s past, adds a layer of reflection that makes the film more meaningful. It’s almost like a tribute to the struggles and failures that ultimately shaped the MCU into what it is today. Feige's decision to have Deadpool and Wolverine take this journey feels like a way of acknowledging and honoring those early attempts, no matter how flawed, as essential stepping stones. It’s a fresh direction for the MCU, one that blends humor with introspection, making it a perfect new start for the franchise. The balance of comedy with a touch of nostalgia and depth shows that the MCU is evolving, and I’m excited to see how this will influence future films.

Not sure if someone already caught it in the comments, but the side-scrolling fight also referenced the X-Men Arcade game. Wolverine does the same video game attack on one of the fallen Deadpools.
I believe that this Variant of Chris Evans who portrayed Johnny Storm as Human Torch is from the Earth-838 universe, so that means he is related to John Krasinski who portrayed Reed Richards as Mister Fantastic, the reason this is the case, is that the suits look the same.
And foreshadowing that the focus of the movie is actually "digging up dead Marvel movies" (ie, all the Marvel movies from the early 2000s, excepting Spider-Man, who already had its tribute movie in No Way Home- thereby confirming the Spider-Verse is not "dead")
You missed the most important foreshadowing that occurred in the interview with Happy Hogan when Happy told Wade that the problem with him being a hero and joining the Avengers is that it was something that Wade needed. He then goes on to explain that what made the Avengers who they are is that they did not do the things they did because they needed to, but because the people needed them to. This all comes full circle when Deadpool chooses to sacrifice himself by short circuiting the TVA time device thus saving his universe and saving this Logan because they needed it, not because he needed it to fulfill his need to become someone who mattered. At this moment Wade Wilson/Deadpool became a hero.
I'd argue this isn't actual character growth and Deadpool knowing what the "script wants" thinking doing the sacrifice play when knowing it wouldn't work would make Marvel let him be an avenger
We all went BANANAS when Wesley Snipes showed up as Blade. Def was the best cameo. Chris Evans was 2nd when he said FLAME ON! - was more satisfying than if he played Cap again. Laura/X-23 was amazing too and she is gorgeous now. Channing Tatum was a perfect Gambit portrayal is next. Then, Henry Cavill as Cavillrine. Jenifer Gardner as Elektra.
The best fight of the movie in my opinion was the Honda Odyssey fight between Deadpool and Wolverine where they're just wrecking the car and stabbing each other willy nilly while "You're the one that I want" plays in the background. Perfect.
You forgot to say that Deadpool refered to Will Smith at the Oscars in this scene when he said "Keep my countries name out your f***king mouth". I loved that reference, it's such an awesome meta joke, just like everything with Blade, Ben Afflecks Daredevil and Tatums Gambit

I’ve now watched three different breakdowns and not one noted that the line “every Deadpool has a Peter” absolutely means that some Deadpools have a Peter Parker as their best friend! Which is think is a pretty amazing Easter egg and homage to their relationship in the comics.

Jennifer Garner dissing Ben Afflec was my favorite joke in the whole movie.
There was no dissing, she just said that she was over it.
@GrinFlash007 she said "it's fine" not really a dis and not that she is over it
You forgot to mention that Deadpool literally headbutts the screen and cracks it, showing that not only is he breaking the 4th wall, he's talking directly to the audience and views the world as a set with his scenes taking place in real time.
Yep, that was a hilarious moment.
Obviously
But then cut to other camera and there's nothing visible there. Loved that.

Although these characters are supposed to from the Fox universe movies though right?
Ryan Reynolds was like I won't ruin logans ending but I will interfere with his skeletons
The opening scene is also a meta joke as Deadpool is literally dancing on the grave of Logan.
Not really a reference more of a plot point ;)
I feel like this was something everyone noticed probably after the movie lol
