Can a John Deere Garden Tractor Run a Stump Grinder??

  • So I thought that if a 1 series tractor could stump grind, why not a premium Garden Tractor right. These two, the 445 and X585, were the test mules and they "muled" great. Good performance but there may be some drawbacks.

    That was some really experienced stump grinding on that first stump! I was actually pretty impressed with how well the "limited" cat 1 hitches did with the stump grinder in general.
    That was a really fun time!

    That was a pretty interesting video. I'm kinda surprised, but it looks like the garden tractors handled it without any significant problems. Wish my 430 was designed with a 540 pto.

      Yeah, we were surprised at the ability of it to stay planted. I never thought they didn't have the power, but being lighter could have been an issue and it wasn't. Having said that, the lift "range" of the 3 point hitch could be an issue, but not one that couldn't be mitigated. Thanks for watching.

    I wanted to check out Luke's John Deere garage but there was no link in the description...
    Actually if I hadn't been there the other day, I would be glad to learn from this video that a garden tractor is plenty capable because I had been wondering myself for a while. I think it should be quite helpful to others!

      Haha, we do get together from time to time. How has business been treating you? I love the 2038R, that is such a nice ride. Luke has his eye on a 3038E, I keep telling him to go 2R or 3R, but they are pricey, but still very nice. I feel your pain with the PTO reverse lockout ,especially when using implements. I have an x595 and a 758. Got the 758 used and it doesn't shut off the PTO in reverse and the reverse lights dont stay on so I'm assuming Deere dropped the feature rather than it being bypassed. Makes it so much nicer to operate

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I am usually using my 1023E for that kind of work, which allows reverse when operating the rear PTO, but I still have to use the button when I'm mowing, because the mid-PTO still has the safety switch. Thanks for watching.

      What I like best about it is how smooth that spool operates. You can feather it unlike the oem valve. It really helps with fine implement control. Intuitive placement and comfortable design. If anyone sat and used one they find the money to buy one.

      Ron, I meant for Thomas and I to get some video focused specifically on that and we will, but Thomas invited the whole herd over, so we were all over the place with projects and piecemealing that 3 point hitch of his together. That H-3 valve video needs to be coming soon. As Thomas mentioned, sit on one and use it and you won't want to not have it again and again. Kind of like my hydraulic top link😉. Thanks for watching.

    What’s the purpose of the high posts on the 45 loader?

    • @LukesJohnDeereGarage
      @LukesJohnDeereGarage ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ROPS (Roll over protection system.) A load in the bucket can make the tractor tippy... it's supposed to keep the tractor from rolling on top of the operator if that were to happen.

    • @BigDaddyAddyMS
      @BigDaddyAddyMS ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @tomsutton6509 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      From what I have heard ,, the tall posts on the rear loader uprights were John Deere's attempt to create a make shift ROPS to appease OSHA . Deere didn't come out on top and that is why you can't buy a John Deere loader for a garden tractor . Thank You OSHA ! If anyone has better or different information I'm all ears !

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tomsutton6509 Tom, I think you are partially or completely right. It either dealt with the ROPS directly or was related to weight and maybe Deere didn't want to deal with it. What's funny is you can get a CTC loader without any ROPS all day long for any of these current or older GT's. Thanks for watching Tom.

    • @FloridaDeere

      They are great for mounting lights high which of course provides great illumination for whatever work you are doing, but, of course, it was as a makeshift ROPS system, not to mount lights. Thanks for watching.

    Will the stump grinder fit on a 425? Thanks

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it will, but the range of travel will be more limited and you would have to cut down any PTO shaft you would come across because the connection point between the tractor and grinder would be so close. We got lazy and also Thomas wasn't sure which tractor he was going to run it on at the time, so we were leary about cutting too short. Thanks for watching.
