    A note with regards to camber bolts Misha, those bolts you have appear to be 14mm. The ones you actually need are the 16mm ones. I know Whiteline sell them. We fitted those to mine when we put the Bilstein coilovers on, and managed around -2.25deg of camber front. Have checked it again since, and no issues despite some heavy driving. Also, on the weight thing: I had mine weighed recently (after the coilovers, exhaust and forged wheels) and was just a touch under 1260kg with over half a tank of fuel. Not sure if you have something in the car, but 50kg extra is a lot! I'd also recommend trying the car with neutral toe at the rear. We're running that on mine currently as a trial, and the car is super agile without being oversteery at all, though that is on some sticky tyres. Just a few notes :)

    The 14mm aftermarket bolts go into the lower hole, and you use the OE crash bolt originally in the lower hole, up into the upper hole to get around -2.5. We have been doing this for decades on Subarus. It is the meta. Do not run 2 camber bolts per side, only use one OEM (crash one, smaller one, in the upper hole) and a 14mm aftermarket one in the lower hole.

    This video is actually an excellent illustration as to why it is important for a person to research their platform before relying on a shop who may not be familiar with it. Not dissing anyone just making the point that the owner and shop working together is always a good idea. Pity you guys didn’t figure out the 14mm camber bolts are for the lower bolt whole on the strut. Would have been cool to get driving impressions beige going to fully adjustable coil overs.

    I recently took my old 911 to a Porsche specialist for alignment. I had it aligned at a non Porsche specialist last year but the specialist noticed that the cam bolts were worn and stretched and it had all moved, rear toe in particular which made it nasty to drive. New bolts, proper alignment to a fast road spec, within factory tolerances and it’s transformed.

    You should align and check your cars with a driver in it.
    Those weird stock values will change and get more neutral with weight in the car.
    Body weight will lower the driverside and raise the passenger side,so push and pull the steering rods wich will push and pull the hubs ,so wheels will move.
    Moreover,roads are curved and cars roll on a specific side of the road in different countries.

    Interesting find Misha! I have a video on my factory alignment specs, I found basically same camber settings you, however on my Australia delivered BRZ my toe was much more even. About 1mm toe out (per side) in the rear. And zero toe in the front. I stabilized the rear with zero toe in the rear as well. Car steers quite neutral.
    Mostly street car so I didn't want the front too responsive.
    Would like to upgrade the pads in the future, when the stock ones wear out. Otherwise, amazing car from the factory.

    So very German to have a manual alignment set up. Even some of the very small shops here in the US have a laser set up as their default.

  • @tomkatdj
    @tomkatdj ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Your wheel alignment is out because you have changed the wheels, by increasing width, rolling diameter and or offset the suspension will settle in a different position.
    With the opposing directions of angles the left and right variance is pretty much predictable.
    That is why Front and back are opposing, when you look at the suspension travel it also opposes.
    When I change wheels or even tires I always realign…..because it is generally out, often with the steering off centre when changing offset or width.

    500 bucks for a string alignment!? jeeeeezus. here in the states at firestone we do the laser alignment for 100 and we adjust everything short of ride height/corner weight, but thats not really part of alignment, its corner balancing.
    also a full degree of toe is EXTREME. something moved significantly, thats not "factory alignment". taking the strut bolts out could do it in the front, but idk about the rear. somethings not right.
    lastly, 1/4 degree toe out per side is a LOT. thats gonna chew up tires very quickly. thats drift car shit. and a degree of toe in the rear is, like i mentioned earlier, extreme. i cant see a reason to run more than half a 10th per side in OR out at the front, and maybe a couple 10ths toe in at the rear.

    Probably my comment will be roasted, but i always had this question about wheel alignments, and I'm really picky with my car.
    Let's say i daily my car, that I also use for some B roads and eventually will do some track days, but where I live, the road quality is awful, so uneven potholes and cracked road, I try to drive the most slow I can in these type of roads and try to dodge the potholes, but it can be quite tricky.
    Knowing this and taking Nürburgring as a reference of being quite heavy on suspension because of the bumps and tall apexes, how easy is to get the alignment messed up by hitting potholes or riding in harsh roads.
    For reference, I have a Civic EK Sedan VTI with stock suspension (for now) with 195/55/15 tires (So definitely a chunky tire)
    Keep up with the great content and greetings from Portugal!

    • @Chris675R
      @Chris675R ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's a European type approval you don't need anything. If it's a ABE, like in the case with the brake lines you need to have the ABE certificate in your car. Because if you don't have it on you when you're pulled over by German cops, the will treat it as an illegal part and they can impound your car. Alternatively you can go to the German DMV (Zulassungsstelle) and they can add the ABE to your car registration (Fahrzeugschein), so you don't need to have that ABE certificate with you.

    Love to see the upgrade path for these 👍🏻
    The alignment values are in mm - degrees would be insane 😅
    Also where is all that weight in the 86? I thought it would be lighter than my GRY which just got corner balanced with exactly 1300kg and 3/4 tank 🤔
