As a GR86 owner this makes me very happy! I will say, some camber immediately made the steering go from great to amazing which I'm sure you'll fix when you put on some new suspension
0:14 The GR86 doesn't look out of place next to a Porsche 911 with the headlight +grill positioning on the front fascia. Porsche couldn't really justify producing an even cheaper sportscar than a Cayman but Toyota (+Subaru) have sort of made an answer to the 'modern day Porsche 924/944'. Financially speaking, BMW couldn't really make a RWD sporty coupe that weighs similar to the E30 M3, but again, this GR86 can fufill that remit. I've now made my mind up of which colour to go for with the GR86, its this blue 👌
Excellent purchase. I can't wait to see how this build progress. Hoping there'd be a lot of ring videos in the future. Three things I'd like to give my opinion on. 1) There is definitely a fake engine sound generating speaker. You will notice it when you rev high. You have to either disconnect it or disable it at the dealer. 2) There is an oil cooler/warmer arrangement new to the 86. It is basically a heat exchanger sitting under the oil filter that passes both oil and coolant through. That's how the oil temp climbed quickly for you. It will also cool the oil down if it is going beyond the threshold. But I doubt if it'd be enough for the shenanigans you are about to do. 3) Bigger calipers from STI will shift the brake bias to the front more. AP racing full kit front and back is the way to go, in my opinion.

I love the GR86. I just rented it in Tokyo and drove around here. Its almost perfect. Just the Throttle is sometimes kinda to sensitive for city driving (or maybe I'm to stupid to drive?!) I would love to have it in Germany and I absolutly don't understand why Toyota isn't selling more of them....
Cant wait to see, how this will perform on the Ring with your modifications! I think you are wrong about the steering rack, its the opposite even - BRZ 1 / GT86 had a 13.1:1 ratio, BRZ 2 & GR86 13.5:1? But it does not really matter, enjoy the Nordschleife on Sunday! 😃
I own my BRZ (GR86) for a year now, and I love it. Congrats! As for mods - there is already available oil cooler kit. As for Intake - factory one is very good - hardly anyone managed to squeeze more ponnies out of it - simple drop in filter is enough. Car doesn't have oil pressure sensor - worth thinking about adding one. And finally -- drop the oil pan, add baffles and reseal it correctly - factory puts too much RTV around the edge and it ends up in the pickup tube.

I think the GR86 is a great platform for a build. I agree with George about the wing and the need for the front lip. Check out the TRD ducktail spoiler which just enhances the factory decklid lip. Nice to see Tom in a video!
17:10 that thing underneath oil filter is heat exchanger. I had similar one in my GT86 fitted from Subaru Forester and it's pretty efficient. Donington Park or Outlon Park trak day at around 15°C ambient temp didn't overheat oil

Those wires going to the MAF sensor @17:30 look rather exposed, surprised they do not at least use some electrical insulating tape..only thing protecting them is that plastic jacket that moves
My daily for several years now is an almost vanilla first gen GT86 and I still really enjoy it despite a few quirks and shortcomings. With Valenti tail lights I actually think it looks a little bit better than the GR86 due to different outer proportions but with all the tweaks and improvements I hear it received, I'll simply have to test drive the GR too - soon! This video hyped me yet again.

I'm an original "wing" kinda guy but, I would go with a gurney flap on that one I think. The lift spoiler looks good on the car as is. Maybe a clear flap would keep rear visibility. Lol! When you banged on the under tray my dog thought someone was at the door and got all gruffy!
Great choice! I bought exactly same car and color just 2weeks ago. Almost at 1.000km so I’m going to try slowly higher RPM. And then TOM’s visual parts, Öhlins, Recaro custom seats from AMX performance, some cooling and intake shit and I NEED some 6/4pot brakes on front/back like was the first Brembo TRD option on GT86 before they cancel this set. I’m in love with look of Brembo BM6, so will see if they fit in to the 18”wheels 😄

I was very close to order the GR86! Unfortunately it has a very very bad automatic gearbox(can’t drive a manual anymore)..and i haven’t decided yet! Maybe this project convinces me to buy one! Enjoy the car and be always safe!

I have had a leon cupra r 5f for 4 years which I use as a daily car and some trackdays, last year I took the gr86 to replace my civic k20, but I was quite disappointed, great chassis but I really find the FA 24 a bad engine, after a month I sold it and kept the civic for trackdays. that said I'm sure you'll come up with a nice project. see you in august at the nurburgring

Super excited for you guys. If you ever do (along the line) find that there's too much road noise (after doing exhaust mod), it might be worth looking into Verus Engineering's suspension covers. They use 'Computational Fluid Dynamics' to engineer the panels as aerodynamic as possible. Curious to see what suspension brands you'll look into - JRZ, KW 🤭 I know Endless have their monoblock big brake kit for the 86/BRZ called 'Racing Mono 4' but it costs 10k 🥲

I was so disappointed back in March or April 2022, when I got a mail from Toyota, that the car was sold out before I could place an order, although I placed myself on like 5 waiting lists. Since then I'm checking the market on a weekly basis, but 45.000 is just a ridiculous ask from those NRW dealers 😢 Looking forward to the second ordering window in the summer. I'm building a relationship with a quasi local dealer so they remember me, when it happens, so they MIGHT be willing take MY enthusiast money and GTI instead of someone elses
You might want to get a throttle controller mod, I felt that the stock pedal to response felt off in stock programming and I have heard the mod might help.
I Believe this is the last chance to get a true drivers car at it's best. After this there will be no more. Even this can be only bought as second hand in most EU markets. My dream car is the GT86 I wish one day I can get one but the prices are over the roof like all performance cars these days. There are some essential NA mods which could make it perfect. The GR86 is the more than I can dream off but it will also be too expensive as used since it's so limited to like 2 year production. We can't have nice things :D
Misha!! You have to get some 949 Racing Xida coilovers for the GR86. They are huge in the Miata world. Phenomenal double digressive one piece dampers developed for the GR86 to achieve maximum bump and droop travel.
Not street legal in Germany. KW coilovers are also fine, come in different versions and are homologated for this model here in Germany. Don't forget: You can't drive Touristenfahrten with a non street legal car.

Very exited about the GR86 laps. Together with GR Yaris, these are the only cars Toyota has to offer for enthusiasts (Supra does not count because of the BMW internals and much higher price).
I've been waiting for you to buy a GR86, been looking forward to hearing your opinion on it. Had mine in the UK since launch in December. Bilstein coilovers going on soon, as well as Pole Positions, maybe Pro Tracks, an exhaust and STI brakes. I somehow think our cars might end up being quite similar haha.

I'm in the states, and will be purchasing the GR86 premium version in 6 speed manual. I noticed everything is the same in this video for the premium in USA vs the standard version, 18 inch black wheels, Michelin sport tires, Alcantara/leather seats, etc. But it's missing the ducktail spoiler that comes on the premium models. Is that not available there for the premium model? I think it looks alot better than the standard model trunk lid with no extended ducktail. Was just curious. Awesome car, can't wait to see videos on the 'Ring!
@@mgcharoudin if you pull off the dash cover on the passenger side right near the door hinges, you can pull a white fuse for the speaker and it gets rid of it.
~ ATOMIC GR86 ~ Great Idea!! I use the GR86 on iRacing often especially for newbies and have a similar blue colored ZL1 1LE Camaro. GR86 great base low $ platform! Your mod plans sound right on target and excited to see exactly what you do. More long straightaway speed is needed. All-in-all the car is great just needs a little more attention to detail in a few areas to make it a great small budget friendly "track monster". I will be telling my speed shop like me yoU, Misha Charoudin, are modding a new stock for I presume semi-aggressive road course usage while still being "streetable"

Builds too high in the engine compartment as it is not a boxer. And it would ruin the low gravity point. You can easily add a supercharger or turbo kit on the 2.4 l instead and get way over 300 hp.
Very good project, I can't wait to see the following videos. I think a final drive 4.55 with a 6 shorter gear would make a big difference in Nordschleife
I got to say the rear of the car looks so much more muscular than the Gt-86, I really like it now...on with the mods, done as tastefully as possible, I am hoping :)

I'm in the states, and will be purchasing the GR86 premium version in 6 speed manual. I noticed everything is the same in this video for the premium in USA vs the standard version, 18 inch black wheels, Michelin sport tires, Alcantara/leather seats, etc. But it's missing the ducktail spoiler that comes on the premium models. Is that not available there for the premium model? I think it looks alot better than the standard model trunk lid with no extended ducktail. Was just curious. Awesome car, can't wait to see videos on the 'Ring!

@@mgcharoudin if you pull off the dash cover on the passenger side right near the door hinges, you can pull a white fuse for the speaker and it gets rid of it.

~ ATOMIC GR86 ~ Great Idea!! I use the GR86 on iRacing often especially for newbies and have a similar blue colored ZL1 1LE Camaro. GR86 great base low $ platform! Your mod plans sound right on target and excited to see exactly what you do. More long straightaway speed is needed. All-in-all the car is great just needs a little more attention to detail in a few areas to make it a great small budget friendly "track monster". I will be telling my speed shop like me yoU, Misha Charoudin, are modding a new stock for I presume semi-aggressive road course usage while still being "streetable"

Builds too high in the engine compartment as it is not a boxer. And it would ruin the low gravity point. You can easily add a supercharger or turbo kit on the 2.4 l instead and get way over 300 hp.

Very good project, I can't wait to see the following videos. I think a final drive 4.55 with a 6 shorter gear would make a big difference in Nordschleife
The 2.4 has torque, i wouldn't go too short on the final drive for a big track like Nring
@@b71071 It has the same gear ratio as the GT86, with a sixth gear that is too long, it will take advantage much better with 4.55 and 6 short
