- On 28th December 2021, a builder was asked to do some work at 277 Crane Point, Jupiter, Florida. Even before the work was completed, the builder knew this was no ordinary job.
Little did this builder know, he was building a prison cell for two sadistic so-called parents’, that would be used to imprison, punish and abuse a fourteen-year-old boy who was forced to live in constant fear.
In late January 2022, the same fourteen-year-old boy was reported as missing by his mother. He was described as having “behavioural issues”, but this was far from the whole truth and was to open a huge can of worms after the authorities found him.

He got 5 years in prison followed by 5 years of probation and a 40-hour anger management class and a 40-hour parenting course, and a mental health evaluation as a condition of his probation.
Definitely a miscarriage of justice. He shouldn't have gotten any time.

The contractor who contacted the police is awesome. His Spidey senses knew something was wrong with the addition to the house. He knew he was building a dungeon. That Contractor deserves an A+ rating .

Thankfully someone who actually saw something and said something. Can’t count how many times I watch a true crime story of a murd3r where the neighbors heard screaming and gunshots but didn’t call 911. Recently heard one where this girls crazy stalker ex broke in and attacked her for over 20 min meanwhile her male roommate heard it happening, left the house and went and politely knocked on the neighbors door at 2am to call the cops. And it took the cops forever to get there. He had injected her with a f@tal dose of nicotine, ass@lted her, and threw her off the balcony, then immediately went on a Tinder chat spree and setup a date the next day with some chic - whom he was with when arrested for the first girls murd3r! I’m sure she felt more secure having a male roommate and dude didn’t even use his own phone to call 911- he stood at the bottom of the staircase “listening” to her being attacked, then ran away, and didn’t fervently try to get help immediately. Pretty sure they had a house phone too. I’m not expecting him to rush in and try and save her himself but wtf man, get your phone and THEN leave if you have time to stand there for “minutes” listening to her being beaten choked and who knows what else.
I hope if I’m ever in that situation, someone cares enough about me to get me help before I d1e.

I feel like the guy who built the room, after given all the specifics required, only built the room so that when he called the police there would be evidence that they could actually work with. God bless him for that, because he could have easily built it and thought nothing of it, or denied it and then someone else would have just taken his place. Shout out to the construction guy for literally building the evidence.
Yes-- and waiting until he was paid for the work as well-- because that would prove that he built the room according to Ferriter's specifications, and Ferriter was pleased with the room

I think its bc the weirdness wasn’t until the end truly when the “father” asked for the door to have a reverse lock put on it, so it only locked from outside the door and not inside. I think that was the thing that really freaked the contractor out and he then reported it after thinking about how effed it is.
But hey I could be totally wrong lol maybe he did feel suspicious the entire time yet only report it after the check cleared. I’m just glad he said something at all but sad to see this “dad” only get a few years after this kid spent twice that in fear loneliness abandonment and torture mentally

I think he built it because he may have been afraid another contractor would have built it, took the money and just moved onto the next job. Clearly the guy who built the same room didn't say anything.
It speaks volumes of this child that he was going to school whilst he ran away from these horrible ppl. Whatever issues he was facing he needed love and guidance not a prison
School was his only relief. He is not the only one either. Imagine to horror that so many suffered and were unable to escape from during the nonsensical lockdowns

The fact that he allowed his defense to harass his daughter like that when she's being so brave and speaking out really says what kind of person he is and how he knows he's wrong, why else would he let his daughter be silenced unless he knew what she'd reveal

UPDATE: A judge sentenced Tim Ferriter to five years in prison to be followed by five years of probation for locking his child in a box. Disgraceful sentence, should be much longer.

How can the judge go through and see all that evidence being shown and the witness statements, psychologists and that somehow justifies giving him a slap on the wrist? Makes me furious

hmm. i actually don't feel it's warranted. One year with 5 of probation would have been more fair. He didn't physically abuse the boy, they mentioned some kind of beatings but no details, so i don't know. Just for locking him like that, i don't think 5 years is right. He had a computer there, and he was allowed bathroom breaks. Not saying it's right! just saying 5 years is too much.

He was still having contact with one of the kids before sentencing. Which is pretty scary that could happen. (The wife's parents adopted one apparently!)
Not a bad idea. That way child protective services & foster/adoption agencies would have a heads up, & parents in the neighborhood might not want their kids playing at the houses of those abusers.

This judge did nothing for the victims. This sentence is disgusting.
Although I would have liked him to get more time, the 5 year sentence & 5 year probation was relatively fair for someone with no criminal record. I was expecting 3-5 years while listening to the trial. He was a moron for not taking the 2 year plea deal.

He is going to continue when he comes out because these abusers are sick in their fucking head. If he had done this to an adult, he would've gotten life and rightly so. I think the sentence is appropriate, I would have thought 3 years would have been more fair. The kid with his behaviour problems must have been hell to live with especially with other children in the home. Their approach was wrong but I'm sure they were at their wits end and had no idea how to cope with him, seems they did reach out for help but didn't receive any.
You know it's got to be bad at home if a teenager is running away but still attending school

My mom used to _beat me awake_ when she came home from her night shifts for things I had no idea had happened, like the dog had an accident on the carpet while I was asleep, or my brother turned up the thermostat (we weren’t allowed to have the heat on at night, even in winter). By the time I was 15, I literally couldn’t stay asleep because I was so afraid of the beatings. I would get up around 3am and get ready for school, and make sure everything was perfect in the house, and then take the first city bus to school at 4:30am . Classes didn’t start until 8 so I would sit on the floor in the gym and nap or read. Teachers and janitors walked by me every day for years and no one EVER asked me why I always came to school so early. I often had bruises, and although I was 5’7” I never got above 95lbs prior to graduating. Nobody gave a shit.

Yes, I think Tim was a ticking time bomb and could have become very physical as the boy got older. He was threatening to take him out of school and keep him boxed up 24/7!
They did not take the builder seriously. It was the boy who saved himself. Florida is a mess, as seen with this joke of a sentence
Oh this one hits hard. My dad and my stepmum did this to me from the age of 3-9. I wasnt locked in a basement but i waa regulary beaten, forced to either sit and face the wall for hours and houre and hours on end. All day, everyday. I barely went to school. If they were in a good mood. I was allowed to look out the window and watch my brother and step siblings play. One day when i was 9, after a good old beaten, I took off into the bush and stayed their for days. I stole apples and berries from the neighbours farms. I eventually got found by this old lady and I just rememeber I was so scared of her and i refused to talk or get in her car and eventually the police come and took me. They thought I was like a cult child. I didnt speak. I had rags on. i was bald. Skinny. Looked at the floor. Ya know all the signs of abuse. They took me all the way to North queensland to live with my mum. Its 20 years later and I can tell you know, it effects me in ways Im still trying to understand.

If there's any silver lining here, I feel like this was caught before things got as bad as they were on the road to be. Often these stories have a MUCH more horrific ending.
I agree, we see so many stories of children that don't make it through their abuse. Hopefully the boy gets some really good therapy and they find him a loving family that will love and care for him.

Yes, I'm still glad he was at least caught, and will be spending some years in a prison cell. He had the money and resources to escape justice if he wasn't so arrogant.
Sadly it's not over. This young man could start taking out frustrations and his PTSD on future relationships, romantic, his own children, his new foster or adopting family because this couple chose to do what they have done!!!!! Great parenting, folks! And the child's siblings will also be traumatized as well...

As someone who had foster siblings, and later adopted siblings, I cannot understand why anyone would take in kids if they just plan on imprisoning them when they feel like they can’t control them again. This man and his wife believe they’ve done nothing wrong. They’re absolutely cold hearted and disgusting, I hope this case haunts them until they both pass away.

I'm not defending these parents or any kind of abuse but some foster kids don't get to be serious trouble until _after_ they're adopted or older..I know two families who adopted foster kids that cause horrible problems in the families for decades and though the families I know would never send the kids back, it is a tough situation.

Locking him up was their way of coping not treating. Even the boy said he went to therapy so often he couldn't really say how many times so they did try to get him help, while locking him up is obviously not the answer what do you think should have been done?
I was a fostered 14-year old and I know that when your life is devoid of love, purpose, understanding and sense of safety you do act up. That's the way you communicate your pain.

This is precisely how, regardless of the negative emotions one wishes to avoid, one encounters an individual or animal who exhibits fear, shame, or guilt. If the object is not willing to join one in one's immoral actions, they serve as a perfect victim, shield, doormat, or training bag. If one is able to form a trauma bond with them, they internalise the victimhood, and one becomes envious of other potential abusers, thereby ensuring their continued loyalty. Cage.
There are many ways to discipline a child. It's not a good excuse.
This poor soul, his real parents gave him up. Then the adoption parents did this horrible terrifying thing to him traumatizing him for life. The system failed him as well. Bless his heart.

I'm not judging, I'm just going by what we are told and they said it to begin with.. Not me. I feel sorry for any child that feels like they are not loved or feel like they don't matter to anyone. It's very sad.

From what I heard he was adopted from Vietnam, no matter what the circumstances of him being given up gorgeous adoption that is sad in itself, then to be taken to a foreign country snd sdoptef by two sadists makes it tragic
My son went through something similar with his mom (and her numerous boyfriends) for a couple years. She used the same reasoning as in he was destructive and dangerous so he stayed in a locked room in the basement (was going to say minus the toilet, but he did share stories where he had to pee in a bottle because he couldnt get out of the room at night). He does have ADHD and ODD, which does make him difficult to people who are not patient. Agreed that the treatment just makes it worse (he ended up finding other friends who were not good influences and he started to get in trouble with the law, mostly mischief and vandalism).
I was able to get him to move in with me. No issues or rational to have him "locked up". We even responsibly dealt with the legal consequences that he had incurred while living in the same city as his mom and worked things out with the courts, so everything was all settled and he complied with all the work they recommended (mostly paperwork and apologies while showing progress being made in school due to the fact that part of the concerns on the police reports were "household conflict" and since he now lives with me they believed he was in a better environment). Its been a year and there has not had a single issue with school, no issues with the law, and no concerning issues. He has made healthy friends and has a much better progress in his behaviour. He is difficult with ADHD before his medications take effect, but he is manageable, feels that he is loved and seems to be the happiest has has been in his life. It takes time, patience, empathy, and sometimes thinking outside of the box to handle difficult children. You also have to set a more solid example as a parent otherwise they don't have anyone to look up to when they feel lost.

Kudos to you, Dad, for seeing your son in need of help and direction and being the one to step up and give it to him. This alone must show the child he is worth the effort. There are so many fathers unfortunately that won’t do what you have done because they are too busy (also trying to make a new life for themselves or anything really. Just insert x, y, or z for an excuse). So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for making the difference in your son’s life because you’re certainly helping to make the world a little better. 😇
As a woman whobwas diagnoses with ODD as a child among a laundry list of other diagnosis' as the years went along, I want to thank you for being there for your son and helping him get on the right track. I know as a parent it can be incredibly frustrating and difficult to figure out the correct way to support a child with such difficult needs but a child with ODD really really needs that support of a trusted adult even more than most kids do. You've probably saved him so much trouble from a life of crime and hard living and I wish I had the support you've given him so that my life hasn't been filled with so much difficulty especially being stuck in institutions of all types. You're a wonderful dad and if you're son hasn't thanked you, I want to and I'm sure he will one day.

I can imagine the outcome, if the garage suddenly caught fire. The boy had no chance to survive. Al of this is unbelievable.
Just sickening. The most vulnerable in society has no protection in this justice system. 2 years they were giving him for that abuse and I know he inflicted some serious abuse on the boy. I’m just disgusted with humanity
We need to take a moment and appreciate what that contractor did. He didn't know the details but he followed through on his own gut feeling, which ultimately led to this case and the freedom for this kid and/or kids.
Those two psychopaths don't deserve to live. They broke that child's mind. No matter how long he lives, he will never outgrow the harm they did to his mind. No drug or therapy can remove the cracks they inflicted upon his mind.

Pretty much followed this trial. Everyone failed him -- other than the jury w/their verdict(s) -- including the judge with that light sentence. He'll be out in half the time w/time off for good behavior. Hope he gets some "prison justice" behind bars!

The builder did not fail him, or his sister, and the judge no doubt has guide lines as to the length of sentence's he can give for any given crime.

It’s so nerve wracking watching a child be asked questions in a court room with their abusive parents controlling things. Not knowing if they can be honest and may end up in big trouble if/when their parents are set free

It was very 'flat' and emotionless. Somewhere along that poor boy buried the capacity to feel.
Honestly, it is so refreshing to see that police were actually proactive here and actually heeded warnings. I am so glad that the builder notified police too and didn't just keep it to himself. He easily could've never said a word, and police easily could've just dismissed his concerns and not looked into it. So respects to both the builder and the police here. I hope we honestly see more cases where a proactive police approach is successful. It can get a bit demoralizing hearing story after story where police failed to be proactive and ignored all signs. I'd love to see the opposite, like in this case, but one where police actually succeed in being proactive.

Gut wrenching. If you’ve got a teen who has behavioural issues, get them help. These people could afford to custom build a prison in their home, they could afford therapy. Their decision says it all.

Makes me wonder how many “home schooled kids” are going through something like this. Nothing against homeschooling, but it does provide an opportunity for some bad parents to hide abusive behavior. The Turpin family, for example. I’m kind of surprised these parents let their kid go to public school honestly. Their behavior is pretty baffling.

I watched this trial from start to finish. The worst part IMO was the statements at sentencing. Tim’s lackluster “apology” statement and RF’s victim impact statement.
If the parents didn’t think what they were doing was wrong, then why hide the building of the room under the guise of it being a “OFFICE”. These “parents” are absolutely disgusting, disgraceful, and despicable 🤮

These parents are pure evil! WHY wouldnt they take this little boy to therapy...instead of locking him up in a windowless prison cell! I would have gotten all my siblings to help escape with my brother...and go tell schools and cops IMMEDIATELY! But these poor siblings were so afraid of adopted parents that they didnt get help for their brother. ALL these kids need rescued!

What benefit does locking any human being, let alone a child, in a dark room for HOURS at a time have? That is torture. Him using a bucket as a toilet and made to sleep on a matress on a floor with no control of the air? No way to see outside the room. No sense of time really.

Given the facts of the case, they knew what they were doing was wrong.
Solid props to the police who didn’t give up and to the builder who made the call. Too often the police give up because they either can’t find anything wrong or don’t care to. Also, I have kids around the same age and it absolutely breaks my heart there is shitty “parents” out there like this. I hope that young man and his siblings end up in a good place with rockstar parents who would go to the end of the world to make them happy, just like they deserve.
Why on earth would people adopt children if they won't take the responsibility of giving these kids the love and support they need? Had they noticed the kid showing behavioral issues, it is part of their responsibility as adoptive parents to provide him with the help he actually needed.
A lot of these children are acting out because of past trauma, abuse, and instability. It's more of a cry of help, and people who want to adopt should know this.
What they did to this boy is just added trauma to him and it's heartbreaking.
They would have been told. My parents got a full rundown of my foster-to-adopted siblings medical history, abuse history, and mental health/behavioral problems. They also offer lots of free therapy and activities for their entire childhood.

As a parent of a child with special needs THIS is absolutely, completely & totally HORRIFIC! Why? Why didn't these monsters seek out professional help if they were having communication problems? What a disgusting, deplorable, horrible and inhuman bullies! If they didn’t want the child they should have given him to the system so someone who really wanted to be parents could have loved him. This is beyond sickness and it makes me so mad when evil people like this go over seas to adopt children and then mistreat them. The law should be tougher and this people need to be screened better before they are given children.
Just think how young the boy was when he was going through this at their previous home in Arizona. That's a 10 year old being treated like that! It'll be interesting to see what comes out during the wife's trial (she must have a sadistic streak to go along with it).

My boys and I went trick or treating in Egret Landing ( the development they lived in) the past 2 years and I have a 14 yr old in same highschool. How did I not know about this case! Im guessing It got absolutely no media attention and it should have because these people should have to look over their shoulders for the rest of their lives.
This was a very sad story!! I feel for the child honestly he did not deserve to be treated like not after he’s been adopted and though he would have a new start in life. They lost custody of all four children, so a HUGE win for the kids and for judtice, dont adopt if you cant handle said kids or kids, and certainly not if your only method of "dealing" with them is abusive, like locking them away, put them in foster care or find a relative who CAN handle tbem better and give them the chance to actually live, dont hold onto them and "punish" the child or children for being difficult by locking them up or any other kind of abuse, simply because you "had no other options" which in itself is beyond stupid, glad those two monsters got what they deserved, which was nothing and jail

The sentence of 5 years is a joke, but just looking at the judge's approach to the whole trial it was not surprising (and she will get even less most likely as she will blame it on him and that she was afraid herself to object). And it's disgusting the defense is trying to say these were safety measures for his behavioral issue... Yeah, because making the kid shit in a bucked in a room without windows is the way to go when handling behavioral issues 🙄 I really hope the boy is able to heal and thrive and find people around him who will actually give him love and respect.

I had a student who was adopted from an orphanage in another country. Luckily, their parents were amazing and their schooling understands their trauma. I know it's not easy, but that kid is one of my favorites, and I'll never forget them for how they taught me to be a better and more patient teacher. I can't even imagine what these kids have gone through or hurting them in any way. Heartbreaking.

Why do most children turn out to be monsters when they get older? Most of the time it is the fault of abusive parents.
Luckily “monsters” are rare and most abused kids grow up to be good adults.
I think a lot of teenagers have a bit of a 'moral holiday' in their teens, but most emerge unscathed if they have been well parented.

This is sad. Some people are serving life in prison for marijuana still to this day but these evil people get pretty much nothing.
