This is an updated version of the video I made a few months ago, featuring better AI upscaling models, restored freeze frame tags and music cues that aren't in the original cutscene files, and better contrast (Which was originally washed out when I converted the THP files into MP4s the first time).

Sonic was added very late into development, it was a surprise he made it to the cutscenes and not like Wolf, Toon Link and Jigglypuff

Lucas manages to break them free from Gollems grasp, and as they fall to their inevitable death, Lucas reaches for the Pokémon trainer and braces for the impact accepting their fate together.
Sure even then Meta Knight manages to save the both of them, but even with the bitter sweet melody of the Subspace theme this clip alone lives in my head rent free

Bro literally created a Fail-Safe Overide for ALL the R.O.Bs (without the Grand Minister's knowledge mind you),then when he tried to stop them from taking the Subspace Bombs and compel them to rethink their directives,Ganom shook his head and FORCED them to activate and detonate ON THE SPOT with a smile. And when the Minister tried to stop them from doing that,he hit that Override button again (Now with a dissapointed look) to MAKE his fellow machines to attack him to the point of incapacitation . Mind you,after you fight with the many hordes of enemies (WHILE HE WATCHES) he look at the heroes (and nowthe newly joined ROB) with dissapointment and dips out. Whay makes this scene hit HARDER for me is that you know off-camera,he destorys the override whiche makes all the clone ROB's snap back to reality,only for them to start panicking out of fear and they look around frantically for answers.
I felt so bad for ROB at this bit...I know Ganon is "The King Of Demons" but this was just downright evil most savage degree. 😢😢😢
47:47 this sequence (the entre fight) is amazing for an "underpowered" console like the Wii in 2008. It looked phenomenal then and still holes up very well today. I don't care, I really hope the devs can just come together and give us a stellar story mode like this for Smash 6.
Sakurai doesn't want to... specifically because of the internet. The mere idea of spoilers made him not want to do something like this again. Which is such BS because that means he's depriving EVERYONE of the experience of playing it simply because *some* people won't experience it blindly for the first time.

I love that wario and dedede dont actually care about anything and just doing it for shits and giggles, bowser is still just after peach ultimately, and ganondorf is the only actual villain until he realizes hes been tricked. Everyone just kinda plays antihero roles against each other until the climax but its so good.

@@jockson7574They probably don‘t know what they are doing and were programmed to be oblivious to what their task actually meant, let alone that it would annihilate them in the process. The ancient minister only knows what happens when the timer is up because he was tasked with setting up the bombs everywhere and through his observations he of course knows what happens while the robs executing it don‘t. That‘s why they‘re waving at him.

It's such a shame we never got anything like this ever again, especially with Ultimate, the opening cutscenes was so promising but World of Light turned out to be so mid, if anything. Brawl really was peak, ir at least Subspace Emissary definitely was. One day we'll get a sequel or something!
I wouldn’t consider world of light mid, but it felt disappointing when you realize we got this years earlier, like we coulda seen all these characters interact again to fight against galeem or hell maybe they could do new things with the platforming
@@trickywickbow5536 I mean after that introduction cutscene, expectations were higher than ever, and then we got what's basically a slow paced boss rush simulator. The only good things WOL has are the ending sequences, you controlling Master Hand was awesome, the fight against Galeem and Darkhon, and the entire last stage with the Light v Darkness theme. But everything else was so indescribably mid

Sakurai on this new TH-cam channel where he explains game développement etc said that it would have been a logistical nightmare to recreate subspace due to having to create a cutscene for every possible character so he opted for this concept instead. When a new Nintendo console comes out with a bit more power we might see this mode again

Man, we really need a new story mode like this...
Imagine what crazy set piece we may get with the kind of characters introduced after Brawl.
Hopefully the next Smash Game will feature a new story mode, or even a remake of Subspace Emissary with more events and more characters joining in.
It would also be a great way to promote the game in light of it having some noticeable cuts.
It would be really cool if we got an Ultimate Deluxe for the next system and it had a sequel to this mode.

Eh... while such a story mode could be a big plus to a deluxe edition, alongside other additions.
I feel like it would be better used for a fully new entry.
And not "wasted" on a rerelease of game x for a system that likely will be compatible with game x in the first place.
Also, 80+ characters might actually be too many to manage, but that depends more on the writing.

Luigi and Samus are the best part of Subspace
It’s a little raw that sonic, toon link, Jigglypuff, and wolf didn’t really get to do anything, but this was epic.
It's cause they were last minute additions to the game, so there wasn't time to write them into the story. It's fun seeing how people would fit them in though.

The most historical and emotional part of this whole story is not just that all Nintendo characters unite, but the fact that R.O.B. the Robot was disguised under a cape as a way to hide his identity and regretting his wrongdoings makes the story even sadder, because if you think about the history of Nintendo, R.O.B. the Robot was an original character that served as you could say, a secondary mascot of Nintendo for a short time, and as a technologically-advanced robot, the R.O.B. toy was capable of doing some impressive signal detection for its time, so he was a good foundation for Nintendo by what he was able to do. With that being said, R.O.B. as the Ancient Minister is like an unrevealed familiar face from long ago, until we finally see that he finally blasts away the evil robots and shows that he is the true and only R.O.B. the Robot from back then, out of the ashes and back to show his power as we know he has. R.O.B. is a true hero, and after all that time of keeping secret, he took his place as a chosen one to save the day.

A lot of characters have some seriously badass moments in this Story Mode, but imho, Kirby was probably the most badass here with shit he did woth the Dragoon.
I mean, come on, the dude took down a whole-ass fortress looking gunship 100x his size.
I remember watching this with my sister every time we needed to wait for something for an hour. I was the only one who wanted to watch it, but we still liked it :)
