One specific bolt on my sim rig for my handbrake lol Everything else Ive tried to use it for, I just end up using a normal socket or wrench. I got it for like $2 on sale though so I aint mad at it. They could make a wrench like this, that actually worked well. But youd have to use legit quality materials, and the cost would probably outweigh any good profit margins.
I have a craftsman one. Every time I’ve gone to use it there’s not enough clearance to get around the bolt head bc it’s huge!!! Other stuff is always in the way.
They can massively improve it in a couple of ways: First, make it able to lock (like vice grips), and lengthen one of the handles, that way you can redirect all of the force to use like a normal wrench. Second, give the handles an angle, in relation to the gripping surface, so that you dont scrape it along without being able to grip the thing. It won't fix all of its issues, but make it much more usable.

This also reduces the sheering force of squeezing too tight on the nut and rounding it off

But the bionic wrench applied pressure evenly around the turn point, and could even turn the threaded connection through glue. You did have to have pretty good hand strength to use them though. If you’re paying $65 for both of those, you really should have spent the same money on 1 or 2 Knipex Pliers Wrenches. As long as you’re orienting them in the correct direction, the act of pulling on the handle increases the clamping force so that you don’t have to squeeze, and they have a ridiculously large adjustment range. They’re also just nicely built tools, so there’s that.
@@eternalbeing3339 LOL. A socket set and "nice" vice grip pliers... Riiiiiight. Sockets... Minus a ratchet. You can't compare a top of the line tool like Knipex, to a bottom of the line socket set AND vice grip pliers. You'll be buying trash.

Just wanted to give appreciation to the editor/s and camera crew for this episode and donut media content in general!! You guys elevate this content thats already great with its charismatic hosts!
@DonutMedia Depending on the way you grip the bionic wrench is designed so the way you put the wrench on it you use the directional force to push the wrench closed when you rotate it. So depending on which direction you are using wrench for, you may need to flip the wrench over. So you are not having to squeeze with your hand and try turn it. If you flip it over than the force you're using to rotate the bolt helps to close the wrench/pliers. Reducing the need to squeeze so hard to grip the bolt!
Seems like they could improve the design by making the turning action simultaneously apply gripping force (like an oil filter wrench). Then your could focus all your energy on turning the bolt and don't have to stress out your fingers so much. I think the main "downfall" of these gimmicky tools is that they are advertised as a "replace everything" tool. There is no such thing, and never will be. These funky tools can be a handy addition to your toolset, though, for the special use cases where they genuinely excel.
Just wanted to say I've been a sub for Donut since you guys first came out, and it's really great to see you guys still making quality content with substance. You guys are killing it. Bravo.

Yeah, I've got garden scissors that can lock, just do it at the preset wrench sizes. Still the tool's head is just way too large. These products are cool ideas, really. Just impractical due to underperforming or being otherwise limited

The video is great, as usual, but I want to congratulate the motion designers here : it looks better and better, keeping the essential vibe of the show : great work !
Love the content, as always, but I'm curious if the pliers have an indicated direction? Like an adjustable wrench or Knipex Cobra pliers you need to tighten or loosen in a certain direction and based on that it looked like the bionic pliers were backwards? Again, just curiosity!

I am glad that you guys are making a solid effort to filter out some of the bad inventions. Society needs people to do this, otherwise innovation will slow down.
It needs a locking mechanism. Squeeze it around the head as much as you can lock it in place then turn. Maybe add somekind of slide out extension for more leverage.
I traveled to the Los Angeles area for work once and bought one at a 24-hour Walgreens because it seemed like the right thing to do at that moment. I do not normally vibe my tool purchases, but honestly, no regrets... most honestly, I have never found a use for it
My mom gave me one a couple Christmases ago as a stocking stuffer. I use it to crimp large guage wire ferrules. It would be better if it ratcheted but it works well enough for the job.
The intended way to use the tool is to orient it in such a way that you just pull against the handle and the tension tightens it. You should never need to squeeze it after you start turning

I have a old metal one that I found on a property my parents bought. It has a plastic 10 bit organizer, some blades, and a magnetized bit holder all built into the handle
2:01 its hard to really understand how utterly useless this wrench is. it is SO MASSIVE that its extremely rare that it will fit on any fastener. and it can only fit over a fastener head, it can't turn something like a pipe fitting. it also has a TINY range so there are only a few fasteners it can fit on. i got one for christmas and it went into my "never to be used" toolbag after i tried for hours to find a single fastener to try it on. but to be fair, it completely saved my ass ONCE. it just so happened that i wound up needing to tighten down a cap on a gas line when i was moving out, and all my tools has already been packed except for one, that dumb bionic wrench. i'll be damned if it didn't barely fit on the cap and tighten it down. i would have had to go buy a crescent wrench or something otherwise. its crazy how the wrench really doesn't fit on anything. the gator grip is more useful lol
I feel like jacks are infamous for being used above their recommended weight rating. It always seems to be the cheapo harbor freight jacks. I’d love to see how different brands of jacks stand up to the high end competition as far as weight capacity goes and if buying those $500 low profile mac tools jacks are worth it when they have the same recommended weight capacity. I have this. Got it back when the inventor was suing Sears. Within it's limitations, it works really well. I know better than to use it on big, heavy duty jobs. I think that judge got paid off, by Sears.
"The Limitation is You" - Mr. Rogers, probably
The video is great, as usual, but I want to congratulate the motion designers here : it looks better and better, keeping the essential vibe of the show : great work !
CONGRATULATIONS JIMMY! 😎
I have had one of these wrenches for a few years now. One of the best paper weights I’ve ever owned.
I love how far donuts production quality has come compared to some older videos you guys are awesome keep doin what your doin :)
Love the content, as always, but I'm curious if the pliers have an indicated direction? Like an adjustable wrench or Knipex Cobra pliers you need to tighten or loosen in a certain direction and based on that it looked like the bionic pliers were backwards? Again, just curiosity!
I have never seen anyone using a wrench or channel lock to remove lug nuts. I’m not defending the product because I wouldn’t buy one. But would you try to use a wrench to remove lug nuts too?
The more I see Justin, the more I like him. It feels like he’s really getting comfortable on camera and I’m glad he joined. Such a great crew 💛
My dad raced with Peter on realtime for like 10+ years! The #42 totally caught me off guard and I love it!
Rather than replacing your wrenches it seems like a potential addition to the collection. On certain rounded fasteners, it might actually help.
@9:38 G O D D A M N ! its true tho 💀
Maybe if it had a vice grip function to it
Justin is great! He deserves to host his own show
My lady gave me the Craftsman version of this, after 10+ years, the only use I’ve found for it is the spark plug on my YZ250.
I wish my lady could gift me useless tools too...
So this is what Milton from office Space has been up to? _“I believe you have my bionic wrench”_
That..that's my stapler.I gonna burn down this office. 2:18
I could burn this place down. I could take my traveler's checks to a competing resort. I asked for No Salt.
Lolol
Day one of asking James to at least reply / acknowledge Pagani Gaming asking for and up to speed on his dad. He's on day 480.
Just don't man.
Day 480ish of asking James to do an up to speed on his Dad
Never give up my friend. Never.
He died, can’t believe this is still a thing
@@theyarenthere source?
@@theyarenthere and even if he is dead doesn't mean his story can't be told.
@@joshuagibson2520 can’t remember the exact video but it was a fair while ago, James said himself that it was a sore subject for him, and this is a car channel, what it has to do with anyone’s parents or family is beyond me.
My dad bought one of these like 10 years ago and it’s sat in the junk drawer since then.
Justin being the first black host on donut cheers to you mate happy you're part of the team👍
I am glad that you guys are making a solid effort to filter out some of the bad inventions. Society needs people to do this, otherwise innovation will slow down.
@ 4:20 "the limitation is you" well said brother!!😂
0:20 don’t thing you can slip that ‘nerf this’ fart noise from me
2:18 first thing that comes to mind is "Where's my stapler?"...lmfao
It needs a locking mechanism. Squeeze it around the head as much as you can lock it in place then turn. Maybe add somekind of slide out extension for more leverage.
If you could squeeze it down onto the nut or bolt and then it had a locking feature you wouldn’t need to use grip strength
2:08 his face... BRUH LMAO
I traveled to the Los Angeles area for work once and bought one at a 24-hour Walgreens because it seemed like the right thing to do at that moment. I do not normally vibe my tool purchases, but honestly, no regrets... most honestly, I have never found a use for it
I am ridiculously drunk at the moment, but this is extremely entertaining! Thank y’all thank for being a great addition to the car-person show’s.
I used one of these to tighten the bell of my sousaphone for 2 years . They were GREAT for that . Lifesaver even .
My mom gave me one a couple Christmases ago as a stocking stuffer. I use it to crimp large guage wire ferrules. It would be better if it ratcheted but it works well enough for the job.
Donut media is educational entertainment
For the change the tire aspect. I would have like to see a :
Socket on an extension. With no wrench . But using the bionic wrench to turn the socket.
The Bionic Wrench could use a vice grip type handle to lock down and reduce the amount of hand strength needed.
The intended way to use the tool is to orient it in such a way that you just pull against the handle and the tension tightens it. You should never need to squeeze it after you start turning
I really like the addition of Justin to the team, specifically in this video there are a few examples of him explaining things in more detail and I think that's one of the things that I, and likely many of us, like about this channel. I feel like we're starting to see more of his personality in this video compared to previous ones and that is what I feel is great about you guys. Thanks for doing all the work you all do and keep up the good work! Also, I love my TRUCKS hat! It even gets more compliments than my Cracker Barrel hat. I don't actually understand why so many people like the Cracker Barrel hat but I live in Ohio so...
The bolt heads have to be pretty exposed, for the thing to work as intended. Not the case when it comes to automobiles right? 😂😂
I have a old metal one that I found on a property my parents bought. It has a plastic 10 bit organizer, some blades, and a magnetized bit holder all built into the handle
8:16 imagine that wrench slipping again 😂💥
3:58 Shouldn't you flip the wrench over so that you're pulling the jaws closed in the direction you're turning?
Shot in the dark but 🤷🏽♂️
