The videography in this video is insane! Big shoutout o the editing team!! Davin always gets everything running and that's also a huge satisfaction. I can't wait to see a new project.
Thank you for using British racing green! I grew up in the shadow of the Cowley plant where most of the 1275 engines were made. So glad to see them still going strong all over the world.
Great job guys and the fact he was not ashamed to admit that there was a couple of set backs is honest and humble. It's hard to find mechanics you can trust now a days...
I'd forgotten that we used to call them "sewing machine" engines. Now I remember why. Excellent filming and thanks for reviving the memories of making a cantankerous little engine work in a dimly lit little shed in the middle of nowhere. Fun times!
My dad set me on the fender of our 1959 Sunbeam Rapier to watch while he adjusted the valves. I watched and learned by the age of 7 how to do that work, forever instilling in me the desire to work on all things mechanical.
I helped my Dad rebuild the manual transmission on his 1956 Ford Custom. I was about 8. My first task, cleaning the case in & out, then gears. I already had a photographic memory, him, not so much. But together, we made it ! Sweet memory of my Hero !
I'm sad knowing that this technology is going to become lost as everyone switches over to electric cars. For 3-5 generations, this has been something us like minded individuals have been into.
at this point i'm kinda glad to be born in a third world country, electric cars would be commonplace in something like 1 or 2 generation after me bcs the infrastructure is not that developed yet so we still have a few decades to enjoy petrol cars
Electrikity cars are for the rich,,, even the hybrids are not for the poor. And while they go ok range is an issue. And tow??? Naah does not happen. So too take the boat to the river or sea, the caravan on holidays, tow your special interst vehicle or racecar they are totally useless. Maybe a 100k to a battery. That takes hours to charge! Ditto for tens of thousands of trucks small to large Then all the smog from the electricity grid, fugly windmills and fugly rooves with all the disposal dramas as they wear out. Plus classic car owners are still going to drive them. Any Govt trying to ban petrol sales at a reasonable price will end up in huge trouble. As has happened in Eastern Europe very recently. As a car dealer I simply will refuse these expensive very high maintenance toys. Tesla seems to have the suckers however with used cars that are not really good. And I am far from unusual. Dont need the inevitable warranty claims.
Guess what electric powered vehicles Still take petroleum to power in the end it won't be happening anytime soon. Like the guy said don't drink the Kool aid man
When I was younger I used to love to work on my car and i tried countless time to ask for unpaid job in garage and body repair and I've been always bounced because they were either too busy or they didn't want to teach, this videos give me so much joy and a dream of mine is to restore an Alfa Romeo Duetto (if I'll ever find one lol) one day. Thank you guys ☺️
Having worked on many BMC engines, I know the feeling of terror when first starting. So far, I have had good luck with them. Now I just need to start one more that has been hibernating in my garage for far too long. Great video as always.
I would encourage any "content maker" to watch these presentation with zealous scrutiny. Having spent my life around stage and screen production this Hagerty Crew has developed a near flawless formula for elegant presentation... down to the music. Everything serves the final product. They are a complete joy to watch.
These are the best videos for straight and to the point gear head entertainment. DIY vids are great, they've helped me a lot but for just watching and knowing what you're seeing these are the best.
This has become one of my favorite channels. Outstanding production and Davin is such a likable guy. And fantastic mechanic ofcorse. Would love if you guys did more vintage motorcycles like the Harley Davidson Ironhead you did. That was just fantastic!
Love these videos. A month’s of work in a 15min video. Cars today are like a bic lighter, once the flame burns out you throw it away. But that said back in the day you did really good if you got 100k out of your small block Chevy without any major repairs. Now Honda’s and Toyota’s go 400k easy.
The first car I ever drove was a car that my father purchased for $600 it was a 1966 Austin Mini-Moke and he bought it in 1967. Much like this Cooper it had a transverse mounted engine with the radiator facing the driver side but the engine looks identical to mine except mine only had one carburetor. I used to run from our bus stop across the golf course home so that I could ask my father permission to drive down the quarter mile driveway to pick up my two brothers. I was 10 years old. My father gave me that car when I was 25. It was my second car but I loved it. I watched you rebuild this engine with great interest I don't know what cc it is mine was 850 cc I was waiting to see what kind of oil you put in the carburetor's reservoir. Thank you for the excellent video coverage of your excellent work.
These videos are the best edited, most entertaining and most relaxing videos I watch on TH-cam…and I’m not even that into engines! Keep up the good work, can’t wait to watch the others!
This was a great thread to watch. I’ve “been there, done that” several times for mini engine and gearbox rebuilds, and you didn’t make too many of the first timer mistakes :)
This channel has single handedly reignited my interest in the automotive world. 10+years as a dealer tech got me burned out. Thanks Hagerty for keeping the passion alive.
As an ADO-16 owner since 1983 (which is insured by Hagerty😉), I approve of this video! Fantastic production, and this level of machine shop work is slowly fading away!
The only other car I've seen with a radiator that small was my mate's 1.0 litre Suzuki back in the 90s. Once we'd been driving on the highway for thirty minutes when he said "Check this out". He pulled over, opened the hood and - to my surprise - grabbed the radiator cap with his bare hand. He undid the cap and removed it. The header tank was full and he put his finger in the barely warm coolant. It was the most vivid example of engine thermal efficiency I've ever seen.
I always tune in for the great projects and I am constantly amazed at the high quality production, your media team is really fantastic! Love everything about your shows, great quality and great tech, perfect!
Congrats, teacher! It's realy good to know that you mistake something some times. It's make us ordinary people happy about our own mistakes. Thank you Mr Davin! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love the channel and I love the effort that's done. Obviously, the time involved is legitimate and the work is authentic; what bothers me any more with "reality" TV is knowing that none of it's real and I always question whether of these "barn finds" are actually found in a barn, or just bought and placed there..... Especially the actual "barn find" shows.... TV magic in my opinion.
Beautiful vid as usual. When I was 21, I did my first major rebuild. It was a CB750. Did everything perfectly but it wouldn't start. Points cam was 180 degrees out.
The videography and editing / production quality is worth the watch alone on these videos. I love engine rebuild videos but even if you didn't yours are fun to watch. Also, kudos to the camera person(s) for always catching a new shot. Like, I've never seen a reverse through the cam shaft area like at 5:15 .
The one thing I really like 👍about watching 👀your content is you always try and do it right ✅. Reminds me so much of my Dad that passed away. He wouldn't work on anything unless it was done right. Great 👍job guys. God Bless.
I get strange satisfaction out of watching these videos….super cool and amazing job…. One more thing I noticed… see those rough hands.?? See that wrinkled face.?? Those are the trademarks of someone who WORKS for a living… I have mad respect for this man and his colleagues….this country needs a lot more guys like this…Well done and respects from Ohio…
As a old Import (BMC, Peugeot, Citroen, Rover, Land Rover, Jaguar, Datsun, Toyota, Isusu, Fiat, Mercedes Benz, Sunbeam, Porsche & Pontiac in the end ) auto technician I salute you. I still have the tool to balance those SU's. My favorite was the Tri power Austin Healy 3000. I am just catching up on your rebuilds. I stopped being a professional Auto Tech in the late 80's and switched to Computers. Still into the hardware though. 😉 I forgot the Vanden Plaz.
You never showed how much fun it is adjusting the SU carb mixture. I spent 10 years messing with my own Austin got to really love or hate Lucas electric. Who ever thought putting the distributor to block out the rain! Solution to most problems was spray all electrical wires and often had to take the distributor cap and wires inside and dry out in the oven for a few minutes to get things running again. But it sure was a fun car to drive. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
It's so funny watching this. So many of us Brits of a certain age have spent so much time working on minis. It brings back cold winter nights in the dark and rain, lying under a mini on very cold ground. I think it was fun??
Love that you guys dont edit out plugs left out, distributors 180 out, etc. Brings a whole level of reality with it, and it makes me feel better when i forget something silly too lol
Hermoso video !!!
Very nice engine resto! Great job, Davin, for what was a very unfamiliar rebuild process for you, and props to your crew as well; really fantastic work on this time lapse!✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Love the attention to detail on this engine fully original looks amazing would love to see you do the hole car body with nice arches on it and ghosted checker roof great video 👌
Hi Hagerty guys, I loved this rebuild as most of my favourite cars are British. I have owned a Morris Minor, which has the in-line version of this motor in 948cc. The A-Series could be considered as Britain's answer to the small block Chev. This group is also opening my eyes to lots of American cars as well. A suggestion for your next rebuild - an Australian Car, preferably E49 Charger!
I guess someone didn't read the Mini's manual regarding pulling the powertrain. It stated that you undid all of the assorted wires and brackets leaving on the four bolts bolts to the subframe. You then blocked the powertrain and undid those bolts and using two strapping lads, pick up the front of the car and push it back out of the way. We did it that way and it worked very well. When the work was done you just reversed the process.
*CONGRATS* Davin and the crew! We who have walked a similar path celebrate with you, sir! *HAGERTY!* Double everyone's pay on this crew, pronto! - Ed on the Ridge
Thank you so much Hagerty for making me happy by posting these videos i really enjoyed this ❤ keep posting plz love you so much especially Davin cheers. I will never stop driving

😂😂😂
Happens to the best of us.
I have trouble holding my fluids in
So I'm not the only one ! 🤣🤣🤣
Up you go
Favorite part of the Redline Rebuild is it isn't about LS swaps and big turbos; just bringing these nice examples back their former glory!
I totally agree!
Facts.
Definitely. Don’t get me wrong I love LS motors but I love original stuff even more
Definitely 😁
This is for mature audiences.
I am constantly amazed at Davin's ability to keep all the parts in all the assemblies straight. Well done.
Camera man is a pure genius as usual.
Engine started on Sat Jan 15 1:33am and this is posted on Tues Jan 18th... Nice job guys!
Gotta do what you gotta do!

The person/persons that filmed and edited this deserves a medal, truly amazing work.
Awesome timelapse rebuild video as always!

Really enjoy these engine builds. Interesting to see how they are designed. Love how compact this motor is with the gearbox under the sump.
Can't get enough of this channel. Between this series and Cammisa, I'm not sure there's better automotive programming out there.
With all the great work this master mechanic did...the dramatic pause when he opened and installed the thermostat had me in stiches!

как всегда вы Лучшие!!! you are the best !
Davin, your builds are as detailed as possible, but that camera work and editing is top notch! So enjoyable to watch!
I hope there will be a test drive Davin.
Nice resuscitation on an original mini.
Cheers 🇨🇦
Snowy test drive coming soon!
Love seeing someone do everything with a methodical passion and skill. The extra time to make this video shows tremendous patience. Wow!
I felt every torque pull, nuts to install studs twist, "aw shucks " moment involved to Finally Finish at 1:33am. Good work guys!
Boy can I relate. Just finished my B series engine last summer and went through the same process, including some leaks. ;)
I love the attention to detail in this rebuild. Trimming the thermostat gasket was a nice touch

The riming issues you had is what i'm thinkin is happenin with my small block chev. Great rebuild!
The production work, and the hands on work, are incredible! I have rebuilt a couple of Minis, but never to this level. Wow!
Some of the best produced content on and off TH-cam

Having a car like this would be a dream.
Fantastic car.
Lucky was the person who had a chance to buy when it was brand new.
Thank you all for this great work! Amazing!
Making my way through all these timelapse videos to give them all the like they deserve.
Very nice engine resto! Great job, Davin, for what was a very unfamiliar rebuild process for you, and props to your crew as well; really fantastic work on this time lapse!✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Beautiful and love the honesty much better to watch these type of builds than those perfect talking shows
I enjoy all of the redline videos. But these time lapse videos ending with start up are so very satisfying.
Love the attention to detail on this engine fully original looks amazing would love to see you do the hole car body with nice arches on it and ghosted checker roof great video 👌
Carburetor rebuild deserves an Emmy
Satisfaction is right, nothing more satisfying than firing up a mini you shed blood, skin, sweat and tears on fixing.
Davin’s the reason I subscribe. He’s great.
If this isn’t art, then i truly don’t know what is! Such a great video!!
That Green Machine is a thing of Beauty when you were done with it. GREAT job man!
These engines look so perfect in that colour.
This is a awesome rebuild and a great looking job thanks for sharing and God’s blessings for you all keep up the great work

These segments just keep getting better and better. Thank you. Excited for what's coming next.
Really enjoyed this engine rebuild. Thank you guys for all you do. From Jason. Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks, Davin!!! You make me smiling in this moments!
These end to end time laps are just amazing and the best!
Thank you soooo much for sharing
It was so satisfying to see what must have been 80+ hours of work condensed into what felt like a few minutes.
This is why we watch!...thanks Hagerty & Davin👍
Much better than Netflix!!!!!!!
My favorite show. Period
This is art! And so many amazing camera angles and dolly movements for the timelapse, too.
I have been watching every video of engine rebuild. I am addicted. Always excited about new video...
Had the same problem with my 3.0 SOHC v6 - Piston 1 T.D.C and distributor at position 1. WA-LA! Started beautifully.
Just a colossal amount of work in this video!
I always love it when the tape peels itself off and the valve train components come marching in.
I could watch this stuff all day.

WOW!! that was well done guys! the subject matter is good but the video work is OUTSTANDING!!! BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!
Великолепно!!! Обожаю ваши ремонты;) Мотивирует пойти позаниматься со своими машинами))) Удачи и благополучия вашей команде!✌
From beginning to the end. A piece of art. Nice to watch.
The editor did awesome things on this! Like the oil draining as Davin is speeded up
Thank you so much Hagerty for making me happy by posting these videos i really enjoyed this ❤ keep posting plz love you so much especially Davin cheers.
I will never stop driving
Years ago I was working assembly at Mossville Caterpillar basic engine plant and when the engines were first assembled they went to a cold test dyno where they were hooked up to an electric motor and all the functions were monitored without actually starting it. One test cell operator hooked up an engine and started the test cycle and walked away to get a cup of coffee and when he got back there was forty gallons of oil on the floor from a welsh plug missing from the oil gallery on the block. The reason why there was so much oil was it was a stationary industrial engine with a large capacity oil pan. So even professionals miss things sometimes.
Saya suka menonton redline rebuild Bongkar mesin dari awal sampai akhir karna saya suka dengan otomotif.salam dari indonesia
Really pleased to read the posts recognising the amazing photography - it’s outstanding! Astonishing even.
Round of applause for the camera work 👏🏻
Geetings Fromm The UK - Well Done !!! John Cooper would be very proud of you - Thought you would give her a run !!!!! on the road
