Just had a test ride yesterday for over an hour
I am just 175cm, about 5 9 in yeehaw units, with compact legs and arms. I can reach the ground with both feet a bit, and flat foot one while having the other on the peg. Sitting back in the comfort section of the seat I can just reach the handles and also standing up they feel a bit low. Setting default and probably can be adjusted somewhat.
The engine prefers above 3500 rpm, creating an energetic/nervous feeling; and probably caused the gears to drop into N when I upshifted (too) early from 1st.
I can confirm that the (tinted ;) ) windshield without the spoiler kinda sucks. Riding 90km/h+ (60mp/h) it keeps the draft off my chest and starts at my chin causing very strong buffeting ... even in an Arai helmet it was extremely noisy and I would require earplugs. On my Tracer 7 with high windshield+spoiler it is pretty quiet even at German Autobahn speeds. Taller riders might be above the turbulences, but completely exposed to the elements. The spoiler MIGHT help shorter riders, but TBD they haven't received any yet.
I can also confirm, that the mirrors vibrate like on my Tracer 7, but on a bike costing double they really shouldn't. Thanks Ian without your comment I wouldn't have paid attention to it.

I left the dealership with somewhat mixed feelings
The bike is quite fun and very easy to handle, even for an ADV newcomer like me, it balances to a standstill.
But for now there are some issues like the windshield (no aftermarket yet), the mirrors, supply issues (Spoiler expected in April, heated grips and seat might be available in September) and for connectivity the App is still in development (previous Husky/KTM Apps have atrocious ratings) ... creating quite some uncertainty and/or additional costs

I wouldn’t worry about the way the yellow line up, since Husqvarna have been careful to not line them up in the low position either. A kind of flash-look is created, both in low and high seat position, and the way the line is broken from tank to fairing makes everything work both in low and high position. Hope my words help you see it too! 😉
Anyway - the demonstration of the light you did was brilliant! As brilliant as the lights themselves. You really visualised it. And I love the driving lights. That is what LED-light bikes really need.
Without the driving lights, the contrast between lid up areas and those that aren’t, is to high. Like with most LED-lights, witch make the driver semi-blind regarding thing happening outside the lid areas. So - love the Husqvarna lights!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a thorough review on a bike!
Great review as always, nobody else is going into such detail, you deserve way more subscribers. What would be interesting to see as well is the cost of maintenance for say 25000 miles or so (valve check, oil changes, air filter(s), spark plugs). I've heard on some KTMs it gets expensive real fast.
'If' that motor makes it to 25K with out significant repairs, my 890 did not 🤣
Good review as usual Ian, however, I am 5'7" and had 0 issues with the seat height on the 890R, I think that is a personal comfort thing for people, yes it is OK to mention, but not a deal breaker I would think for anyone looking at an off-road bike...it should be expected at this point.
@@MattKritzstein I'm 5'7" as well, and I really want to like the Norden. It ticks so, so many of the boxes for me. However, and this is a big one, I don't think I can pull the trigger considering KTM's abysmal reliability record. I had an 1190 ADV-R and, like you, speak from experience. That bike was so much trouble... 🙄
If only the Japanese manufacturers would grow a pair, and really make a bike that legitimately competes with the Norden. I would be all over that 100%.
@@WRXXXual KTM and Ducatis are 2 brands Ive had very bad experiences with. Once youve been burned by a brand its not tempting to try again when you know with japanese bikes you need to be very unlucky to have problems.
@@Speedytrip It's funny you mentioned that because the bike I let go of due to reliability issues when I bought the KTM was a Ducati. Talk about walking out of the frying pan, and right into the fire! Lesson learned... twice.
You probably already know what the husky emblem represents.
Years ago husky in sweden made guns. When you see thier emblem you are looking at a gun muzzle with the front sight centered between the rear sight.
Looks like the tail light has a modified version of thier emblem.

Same exact mirrors that were on my Svartpilen.
I got rid of those instantly as well.
I would look into the PowerMadd trail mirror. You can retrofit them to just about any handguard and they work really well.
They give you an amazing concave mirror and having no mirror stems in your line of sight really surprised me how much I enjoyed an unobstructed view.

Hey bud, I lucked out and snagged a Norden yesterday from someone who backed out of their pre-order!! Thanks for the videos helping me make this decision! Found it at a dealership in Denver. FYI, the heated grip kit is on backorder until December. I live at 10k feet so if the sun isn't out, it's cold.

Great job Ian, reviews are getting better and (surprisingly) not many other thorough reviewers out there. Stylistically - this is the successor to the 990 ADV - this bike will put Husky on the map. I did go look at one (looks better in real life) but left with a low miles 701. Looking forward to more reviews - on this and if you can test a Tuareg and T700 world raid would be interesting!

I just installed Barkbusters and the Storm hand guards (white) on my bike and they look good and sturdy and as you said, the stock hand guards were actually not bad at all. Love this bike and this channel. Fantastic in depth review and seriously thinking of getting one of these. Just need to check out the dealer network in the UK.
Excellent review, very interesting bike. One addition: if you look at the shape of the rear axle, it can be rotated 180 degrees which creates a few extra millimeters of chain adjustment.

I saw one in the flesh yesterday and wow, it looks even better in person. I asked the dealer the price and he said if its for this year forget about it we are getting 4 and they are already sold! Buyers put deposits on them before even seeing the bike…I think this could be the best selling husky ever.

Ran the Scorpions and though they work well on the trail, I only would get 1k out of em.
Im sure that yellow seat stripe will look nasty soon enough, I wouldn't worry about it aligned.

One question I have is how does the passenger seating position seem compared to the T7. Yamaha really dropped the ball on that part of the T7 in my opinion.

Good work. For fellow 790/890R owners, perhaps you could clarify how the 901 differs... I was encouraged to see "R" like adjustments on the front fork, though I know its a smaller fork (43mm vs 48mm)....not completely clear on the rear.... Again, great work!

Great video explanation. I think a fender extender would work better than a cover and still allow airflow to the exhaust provided you stick with the low fender.
Good review. Without a center stand it can complicate rear tire changes and chain adjustment. But this is not the only adventure bike without a center stand. Honda's Africa Twin also comes without one as do some others. BMW still comes with a center stand at least for the 1250 GSA. For folks that typically do not own a bike beyond the warranty this bike could be interesting. But, since it is a KTM in different clothes, warranty stuff and reliability after the warranty is important to some of us that keep bikes a long time.

Thanks for the great vid's. Went to my dealer, and he had two (for the year), one was sold. So I bought the 2nd. As we writing it up, another salesperson asked if I was Rick. I felt bad for this fella, as he was coming for the same bike later that day. I live in a small town in Canada, so not a lot of units coming in. Avoid disappointment, buy it. You'll have no trouble selling it if you change your mind.

Looks like a reasonably comfortable bike for a pillion. Large flat seat, more so than the angled smaller one on the T7. At least it looks that way. This is becoming more and more compelling. Do you know how much Of the bike is made in China?

Wow, Ian understands exactly what is interesting for someone who is thinking about investing his hard earned money in that bike. What a difference to other "reviews" where someone reads out a specsheet infront of a bike.
Good video! About handguars: my Norden fall to ground 3 days after being buyed. Handguard broken, clutch lever broker and aluminium tank protector was riben (little broken). Now I put Barkbusters handwards and in few weeks ad an AXP skidplate for Norden. It's and advice. Sorry for my basic english 😅

Ian, another great video. I have the 901 and also the Triumph Tiger 1200 Deseret edition and they are both tall for me as i am 5'8 at best with a 28/29 inseam. I have ridden them but had a lot of maneuvering myself on the seat to get one leg down. On The 1200 i had the seat reworked which took some of the extra padding out and lowered me about 1 - 2 niches, still not flatfooted but getting closer. For my boots i have found insoles that add height so i will be trying them next to see if thy help as well. On the Nordon 901, I have not done anything yet but will begin with the added lift in the boots, then see if a lowered seat my help. AS far as these bikes go, i want to keep them and have fun with them but am really weary of lowing suspension but riding the bikes way to tall is doable but uncomfortable.. But in the case of the 901 if a lowered seat does not do the trick then i will go with the lowing kit.

Appreciate the thorough breakdown. Considering selling the GS1200r for this. Good Husky support where I live, Tenere is too small (and not enough features) and those more exotic bikes coming out would pose service challenges. Really liking the looks of the 901

You're doing very complete and thorough video's on this machine and I really appreciate it because I've been thinking of downsizing from my 2018 KTM 1290 SAR. The only thing that bothers me a little and it comes from previously being a dealer for Husqvarna lawn equipment is the way you pronounce Husqvarna. it's not Hoose ka varna it's Husk varna. My factory rep drilled this into my brain. I know it's trivial but like you I'm OCD. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks.

I think this was a very good review of this bike statically. There are a lot of really attractive aspects to this bike that would really have tempted me a couple of decades ago (not able anymore to take advantage of the wonderful offroad performance you attribute to it). My main reservation about this bike is that the engine is basically KTM. I've read elsewhere that KTM engines can have reliability issues. Hard to believe about a bike that seems to reflect an impressive attention to detail.
I wonder how many more bikes Husky sells because of your videos Ian. The more I look at the Norden, the more I want one 😅
One thing that I find interesting with this bike as I get to know it through your videos is that I really don't see where the aftermarket needs to step in to improve on obvious design flaws. This bike seems well thought out.

I keep on reminding of things that interest ME 😀 : how are the vibrations on paved roads, at speed ? Reliability ( well, I understand - the time will tell - unless it has been told about by the manufacturer...) - is it better than on the KTMs ? - is it needed to change the blinker realy, or stick inn resistors - whan u replace the blinkers ?
This is exciting to watch as you"unpack" your new machine! Do you ever install security (theft) alarms on your machines? With a beautiful new bike, I'm always concerned, especially in the city or in town about theft or tampering. What would you use on your Norden 901? I'm hesitant to pack my CobraLinks like I use on my ElectraGlide. Thanks.
Don't know about front light, strange feelings, but one thing i learn it's when you see it live it's a completely different thing, didn't like the KTM before the first time i saw it live. But in general i really like this bike, enjoy it.
