Reliving The War takes a look at the "Monday Night War" era of professional wrestling with weekly episodes every Thursday. Every episode of WCW Nitro and WWF Raw will get covered with every match, promo and moment highlighted. Fans had a choice, they could watch WCW Nitro on TNT or WWF Raw is War on the USA Network, this series will see which company had the better show every single week.
On Nitro Ric Flair tells Bret Hart that he must return to action. Not only will Bret wrestle Booker T on Nitro, he'll also defend his US title at Superbrawl against an unnamed opponent. Bret thinks El Dandy would make a wonderful opponent for this upcoming pay per view because he's just a Jam Up guy. Norman Smiley gets his wiggle on when he meets Perry Saturn. and the nWo Elite take on the Four Horsemen in the Nitro main event.
Vince McMahon gloats at the beginning of Raw, the Chairman won the Royal Rumble so it's time for a Corporate celebration. My favourite part of the NWO kicking out Curt Hennig was when Brian Adams yelled "what's going on? Curt's like a brother to us!" and then Nash goes "It's just business, man." and Adams immediately starts attacking Hennig without a single thought lmao.
Curt was a loyal goon....but a goon nonetheless
Biker mentality from the former Biker Michael Liker.
Had Rick Rude been on TV at this time, he too would have most likely been kicked out of the NWO as well. Scott Steiner would have given Rude a new nickname "Repugnant" Rick Rude.
Yeah, that felt like more of a "just to be clear, we're Sure about this? And if so, can we All beat him up?"
😄👍
Hennig himself pulled a similarly hilarious move like that on the 7/13/98 Nitro. In the intro, Hogan is going in on Scott Hall for "fumbling the ball" for losing to Goldberg. Hennig and Hall had just been joking around and yucking it up with each other while on the way to the ring. But just before Hogan starts giving his threats to kick Hall out of the nWo, Hennig makes this beautiful move behind a few guys and winds up on the other side of Hogan, and is now looking at Hall like "yeah man, you screwed up. you suck." And Hall acts likes he's so confused as to how Hennig could turn on him so fast. It's so subtle, but also is absolutely perfect. The former tag partners with just a ton of chemistry. Good stuff. Watch it if you can. Cheers.
HBK sliding into frame kills me every time i see it.
Say what you want about him, the lad had Exceptional Timing.
RIP to the Legendary & Amazing Scott Hall!!! We miss you brother.
I’m here to give Bret Hull his due
Legend 🏒
No goal!
Seriously disappointed he didn't know Bret Hull...I know Hockey isn't as "popular" but he's one of the greatest of all time and that's undeniable.
Saying "Some hockey player" for Brett Hull is like saying "Some wrestler" for Bret Hart. Still love the videos, though. :D
Just some hockey player that the city of Buffalo still hasn't gotten over 😂😅
I just watched episode 4 last night when you were considering stopping Reliving the War to just cover pay per view and special moments. So glad you kept going
I LOVE THAT OUTRO! Rage Against The Machine crossed with D-Generation X.
Everybody knows that the Chris Warren Band was evoking Zack De La Rocha from Rage.
Koko B. Ware in the Blue Blazer costume makes perfect sense, since he and Owen were a tag team back in the day.
yep known as the PYTs the pretty young things
He was the Birdman, after all
It does, although I can see the argument that it should have been Mark Henry for this episode.
Yes! THAT Bret Hart promo! Many memes were born during this promos. Epic!
Memes? I don't understand why. I don't get the joke. El Dandy is a vicious, machine. He makes Lesnar look like Rico.
Serious professional, jam up guy, great wrestler, the true Excellence of Execution and totally not a rotten, stinking hyena like Steve Austin or Dean Malenko.@@Roflcrabs
It's easy to forget Smiley was a headliner in Mexico as Black Magic for years before the wiggle.
Did not know that🤔🤔🤔🤔
Austin and HBK partying together is one of the all time great promos.
Also, Brett Hull can drink anyone under the table ...
Yeah, and looking back at that 2019 Blues parade, he probably still could lol
Bret Hart: Who are you to doubt El Dandy?
Pat Patterson: Nobody!
Brett Hull of the Dallas Stars at the time is the hockey player.
You haven't got the jam to recognize the greatest heel to ever play hockey. Brett Hull stole a Stanley cup and turned his back on his home country!
Van Damme and Chuck Norris chose to go to WCW because they didn't want to risk being shown up by Steve Mufuggin' Blackman.
Bret also tells the story in a great sit down Interview with Inside The Ropes on TH-cam. I recommend that entire Interview for those that can't tolerate SRS.
Video idea: It been pointed out that Ric Flair wears red ring attire when he’s gonna lose and blue when he’s gonna win. Anyone else ever heard or noticed that trend?
This episode definitely has the jam!
Vincent smashed his head before his speech at 1:55 . it was his best segment
NEVER doubt El Dandy. It'd make Smokey sad.
You can really see the traces of the "affair with Deborah" plot line Owen vetoed in hindsight.
Also, holy cats, that headbutt Bam Bam did looked PAINFUL.
Rage against the machine mixed into the DX theme is honestly the mashed up i didn't know i needed in my life...
Rose from Titanic (with road Dogg's face) "I want you to draw me like one of your french girls"
Jack "SHUT UP!"
Austin and Michaels were so completely buzzed out of their minds here. Especially Austin. You can tell when Stone Cold just stops and has to rally his thoughts.
Oh yeah I remember that was said in an interview. Kinda funny how just less than a week ago Cody and Jey were kinda stoned during the aftershow of fastlane
Austin was definitely was reading off of something because he was too buzzed to remember his promo
@@kbhalacytrue but that was funny 😂
Dude hbk looked ssooo gone and SC was glassy eyed like a mf 😂 I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking it 😅
@@lilrog91Yeah. I think it some ways it added an extra kick to his speech for it, just this 'yeah, he is REALLY pissed' When he gets to "Let me tell you this... Let me just tell you this, you dumb son of a bitch. I will guarantee you, there's that famous word. I will guarantee the world, that i will beat your *ass* all over that damn ring. I will walk over your limp, bloody carcass out of the damn cage and Stone Cold Steve Austin will walk right into Wrestlemania to face The Rock and if I can't beat that sonuvabitch, hell, I shouldn't have ever wrestled in the first place!" The Raw/Smackdown having huge ass promos to start was a thing and it really drags, but this one was pretty on point, all told. It wasn't belabored to the point where even their headlining guys were making fun of it/themselves yet.
" You want a floor? You gonna get one." - Scott hall. (Construction gimmick)
What would the Godfather say?
@@TheSBleederYou want a whore?? You're gonna get one😂😂😂
Based
A post Fingerpoke of Doom win for Nitro. Will be interesting to see how rare, if they are rare, from this point on.
Two weeks in a row. Nitro wasn’t miserable or a train wreck after the poke. Guys got hurt that killed the storylines and that’s when they couldn’t recover
Brets best mic work. What an amazing promo.
He's got the jam
It's so weird watching Owen at this point in the timeline knowing what happens in just a few months, especially in angles involving the Blue Blazer, whether it's him in the costume or not.
Yeah, it's fun to revisit this era, but I can't stop dreading how his time in it ends.
I was thinking the same thing. I will going to ignore the ugly ending for now and enjoy Wrestling Bios videos. Steve Blackman is the best part. I'm really going to miss that.
"Who are you to doubt El Dandy" Such a damn classic line
Just a few more weeks until Big Show arrives in WWF, can't wait!
@@ravinraven6913 Before he was Big Show, he was the Big Slow.
Before he got shipped to OVW
@@sherrix6881 Before he had more heel/face turns than Lex Luger.
Paul Wight…no gimmicks needed.
Two weeks later…”Wellll, it’s the Big Show”
Literally right after I put my dad's funeral arrangements together this weeks episode got posted and I really needed it. Reminded me of me and my dad going to wwf house shows during the attitude days. Much love to all you kings and queens out there
Sorry for your loss.
@@jamesd189 Thank ya homie
Very sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss.
Sorry about your Dad and God bless you!
My 4-year-old wiggles up a storm every time you play Norman Smiley’s theme. Thank you for your service. 24:36
That bret hart promo had me in stitches, How dare you doubt el dandy Jean mean.
That was so cool to see JCVD randomly at a Nitro event.
Love this series. Takes me back to a teenager in high school. Simpler times
Yea so agree
The B-Team on Thunder had one of my favorite random moments when Stevie Ray ran up and whacked The Maestro with the slapjack.
late 98 going into early 99 was my timeline for watching wrestling so it was nice to be able to see alot of the shows & ppvs that was happening in wwf(at the time) & wcw that i didn't get a chance to watch years prior especially the early stages of the attitude era
We're getting closer to the March 8th Episode of Nitro where there was 1 hour of no wrestling. Wonder how they will do it since it was 1/2 Dark Matches.
Koko B Ware?!! Did we miss out on a High Energy reunion in 1999?!! Ah man! I remember watching this Raw live and calling Chyna’s turn about 10 seconds before it happened. I could just tell from where she was standing in relation to Triple H.
I'm always amazed by how CUT Norman Smiley is.
We didn't get enough Norman Smiley in this lifetime.
Was at this Raw, front row facing hard camera, but just outside right of the camera. During the tag title match, we were pissing off Shamrock by going "*something something* puts me in the zone!" then doing the face pound and scream Ken did, like "Val banging my sister puts me in the zone" and "Chicken McNuggets put me in the zone!", but can't remember any of the other ones.
Sad that such an important show I went to loss for the week, tho
This series is getting so much better every week. And I've loved it since the beginning. But these next 2 years were some of my favorites.
Brett Hull, a true heel to all us Canadian hockey fans. Another Jam-Up episode of "Reliving the War!" See you next week
That random hockey player was Bret Hull! Lol😂
Brett Hull is the hockey player lol
I’m looking forward to your take on the episode of Raw where Davey Boy returns and repeatedly calls Triple H “Gameboy”.
He returns on smackdown
But the confrontation I’m talking about was on Raw.
What "take" could he have? He's essentially just reporting on events that already happened. Do you expect him to bust out a Quija Board to contact the spirit realm for insight into a meaningless moment?
@@TimEatsEverything dude has literally made a name for himself by highlighting meaningless moments like “Smokey. My cat”, “He’s an animal. AN ANIMAL!”, “jam up guy”, and many others in addition to his excellent videos.
@camilocuba6927 and? You think your stupid little "game boy" moment deserves a t-shirt? Lol
I don’t know why so many people do not like promos, even if there are a lot of them. The reason why the attitude era was so special was because of the promos. I honestly would want to watch a 10 minute promo than a 10 minute match with two wrestlers I don’t care about.
Austin and HBK were so damn drunk. Lol
You watch that, you see Austin looking down as he reads his lines. Pretty sure his script was on the chair next to him.
Bret Hull was the Hockey dude, a true legend that was probably drunk as he love to party.
He actually score a controversial goal later that year to win his first Stanley Cup.
The hockey player was Brett Hull, over 700 goals, 2 Stanley Cups and a HOFer.
14:26 What you don't realize is Chuck and Jean-Claude are ALWAYS in the same room together... If you see them, they've either allowed it to happen, or it's too late...
I've been waiting for this episode since early on in the series. I went to this Nitro. My Dad took me even though he didn't like wrestling and we didn't have a lot of money. It still hard to believe I got to see quite a few legends. The other shows I went to was the Raw after WM 17 in Fort Worth and Fully Loaded 2000. Itll be cool to remember those too. What a time to be a wrestling fan.
😂 shawn with the rule book even the undertaker loves and follows. Good ole Jack Daniels hahahhahahaha.
Shawn and Austin had some crazy fun there. 😂 austin nearly busted laughing
Austin and Michaels were hammered
The Road Dogg and Al Snow, a team known as Road Head. 😂
The fact that Disco was in the Wolfpac but Hennig was in the Black and White always bothered me.
Personally I think the promo heavy episodes are always the episodes which provide the most nostalgia so I am all for us entering the storyline era of The War.
After this, the Odditites appear on Shotgun and Heat for their remainder of their run until they run into the Ministry of Darkness on the February 28th edition of Heat.
This series is a perfect nostalgia drip. I look forward to every Thursday just because of your videos. Thanks for the entertainment.
Brett Hull was the hockey player. Well known HOFamer
It’s reliving the war day! Oh hell yeah much love to you wrestling bios
This is the best year of the attitude era, I remember it well and the rumble the previous night I watched live I thought was great for its time being unique and not very traditional in terms of the outside action
The Famous El Dandy Promo
Yea!!! Mr.Thursday Night is back with another episode, Thanks again for saving Thursdays WrestlingBios!🎉
Bring on the "Who are you to doubt El Dandy" t shirts
El Dandi vs Bret Hart could have been saved for starcade. 😂
I haven’t watched ‘raslin in 17 years, but I LOVE reliving the nostalgia with these videos, plus this man’s comedy is legitimately LAUGH OUT LOUD HILARIOUS!! Thank you for these, I’m joining Patreon (to support you obviously, but also) because I CAN’T WAIT A WEEK IN BETWEEN EPISODES!!
I look forward to these every week
Norman Smiley should have had WCW built around HIM and I wont accept any arguments. The man is a literal GOD.
The wiggle could have been a #1 song, The history if the wiggle could have been a #1 movie... Wiggling Normal Smiley dolls could have replaced the hulkster merch... they really missed out frfr
Facts
Alex Wright v Norman Smiley in a dance off should have main evented Starcade!!!!
Norman Smiley should’ve been the third member…
Is Norman the greatest wrestler of all time? Yes, by a large margin.
Woooooooooo
Went to a concert last night and forgot it was Thursday. Hell Yeah, vacation just gets better! Cheers BIO and all of you all
Everytime Thunder pops up I wonder how long these will be when Smackdown starts in a few months
Kinda crazy when you consider this series started as a recap to solely two 1 hr shows. Nows its all of this. He said he had a plan but man thats gonna be a grind.
It seems like Bret was bringing up the cruiserweights in that legendary promo because Bret actually liked what he saw from them & wanted to promote them (even if it had to be in a sarcastic fashion, since he was a heel), since he could have literally picked any lower card wrestlers for that promo; I bet Bret would have seriously given everything he had in fighting El Dandy. Mean Gene, though, was oddly mean spirited in his response to Bret, calling Psychosis a "Damn Cruiserweight", as though even he was better than them & that Bret shouldn't be saying their names in passing, even as a joke.
Really just describes WCW, in a nutshell: Even Mean Gene freakin' Okerlund couldn't be bothered to put over the cruiserweights.
No joke, Bret vs El Dandy would've been great. Bret would've made him look like a million bucks
The Razor vs Bigalo 🪜 match was waaaaaaay underrated. If it weren't for the way it ended, it coulda' been a match of the year contender. I remember this match like it was yesterday and remember thinking this should have been on a PPV 👊
Scott Dickenson. "Is he looking out for snipers?" That comment almost made me piss myself. Too funny.
One of the best parts of the year (October) and The best Wrestling TH-cam series, what more can a guy ask for when it's time to relax for the day?
😄👍
This episode of the Monday Night War Jan. 2, 1999 is my Dad's birthday so this hits different for me now that my father passed away in September 2022. RIP Dad, I Love You 🕊️🌹🙏🏼.
the title is wrong, its supposed to be 12th
January 25th
Bro... why do you need to even mention this? Hungry for attention?
@@TimEatsEverythingObviously. Who exploits a death for TH-cam likes? That’s just sad.
Pathetic
Austin and HBK were drunk AF
They cracked a perc or 2 as well id bet.
SCSA and HBK in the same house probably drinking beer and watching Football like an regular Texans
NEXT WEEK: EPISODE 171 HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEK AND TAKE CARE!
Blackman vs Norris would destroy the continent it's held on
It's Thursday night and you know what that means! Reliving The War is back and we're post Royal Rumble. Or Boiled Womble as I sometimes call it for a laugh.
"...is he looking out for snipers?"
Well Dallas does have a history of that so I wouldn't blame him.
And TBF, with Brett Hull, there was one in the crowd 😂
@@Pensfan5919 oh hell yeah!
@@Pensfan5919 I just imagined him and Mike Madano doing the "all guillied up" mission
The thumbnail tells me this is the night Mene Gene doubted El Dandy.
I feel a sense of sadness as we get closer to Over the Edge and Raw is Owen. I watched that Raw at the time...
Same
Vince had to win the Rumble to set up the cage match with Austin. If Austin won the Rumble he would have no reason to offer Vince the cage match, which gave Paul Wight's an epic debut imo
Plus Vince winning makes Austin's journey to WrestleMania more interesting now that it isn't as obvious.
Austin could've won the Rumble and still put his title oppurtunity up for grabs in the cage. He got his title shot from Shawn before offering Vince a cage match.
Look at it this way it’s a blunder of Vince’s part because he didn’t read the rule book of his own company. 😂😂 but really though I think it could’ve worked either way Austin wins the rumble Vince comes out next night angry or whatever Austin comes out and rubs it in his face then he proposes the cage match because he love nothing more than beat Vince’s ass.
@@H2Zv1Vince is so stupid to make a swerve like that
I wonder if Paul Wight was already in negotiations with WWF or if he was a last minute addition to the cage match
I swear you know what time I sit down for dinner 😂
I'm in college right now and the highlight of my thursday is when I can watch the new reliving the war in between classes
“That’s a bottle of jack and not the rule book”🤣
Best day of the week!
Thank you for the content, you help me get through work.
That Bret promo, he should have kept that style, unless he did and I forgot 😂
Thanks as always for the upload mate. That means it is time to get up and get going for the day.
I bet we would have to wear safety glasses just to watch a Blackman vs Norris fight, and we would still probably have partial blindness afterwards.
The hockey player is Brett Hull. He was a damn good player.
"A DQ in a Ladder Match"
Says it all right there, doesn't it?
Van Damme looks so genuinely happy to be there 😂
it's pretty sad when Owen is having a match ngl. we miss him so much 💔
We're still four months away, and I'm already bracing myself.
I’ll also disagree about the WCW ending here. Although it was another, “paint-by-the-numbers” large brawl, this time the WCW forces finally showed up. It actually looked like WCW was unified behind the Horsemen. Goldberg guarding the exit; brilliant. The NWO was finally shown to have an equalizing force set up against it.
Granted, I’m almost positive this step in the right direction will be either: a.) forgotten or b.) upended next week, but until that time, it looked promising. Especially considering I’m almost positive my family had given up on WCW at this point. Hearing about a Horseman Vs. NWO match at this point was a sure fire trip to Nap City, especially when you had the Rock on the other channel.
Well on JCVD, I watched Bloodsport last night on TH-cam. Classic! But yeah let's get JCVD vs RVD in the near future!
I remember being so mad about Chyna's turn on Triple H... I wanted to write a letter lol
Captain Guile himself LOL.
This Episode was an absolute banger. You're a legend mate. Cheers
The fans didn't want to give Van Damme no face time 😂😂😂😂
